I've been loving GARDENS February 2020 release "Love Me To Death" since Discover Weekly passed this musically minimalistic yet complexing lyricsphere earlier this year. I was so happy to speak to frontman and track lyricist Cameron Pike about the original ideas and influences behind the track and get his insight as a Songwriter. Huge love to this band X
I'd heard this song months ago and it stood out amongst the April edition of Alexrainbirds sensational indie playlist hits . The production to the melody to the simplicity of this beautific pop anthem has me musically infatuated and Berlue talks about how he created it. We also get a brief debut with a live version!!
I got to speak to Ryse in this episode about the authenticity of his writing styles after meeting him at an event 2 weeks prior. Ryses' lyrics hit me hard after having a break from songwriting and got me back into the obsession of creativity after hearing his stylistic approaches. We also talk about distribution and collaboration
Sol Djangos debut album was released on 5th March. A musical concept album that follows John Bold as he travels back in time to Victorian London in 1839. In this episode we cover the creative timeline from first thought to final note of singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Ste Powells masterpiece. Ste also talks about the mechanics of both the audio and visual aspects which culminates to this fantastic release.
In the first episode of my Music Production series, I was glad to welcome back the legendary Jordy Pearce. Jordy discusses the creative production and the successes, doubts & technical processes behind this hit as heard on BTN. He also shares a major setback which occurred during the making of the song aswell as dipping into the technical tricks of his vocal mixing.
Al Branton returns to the show to discuss his perception of performance anxiety. We dip into the vast ocean of performance anxieties but mainly fixate on moderating boundaries & behaviours of exposing our thoughts, feelings & natures as songwriters. Al also shares trials of icons such as Mozart & Beethoven who, like many creatives, are traumatised.
It was great speaking to Laura Jazmyn about her minor tribulations with performance anxiety after hearing her BTN Episode back in January. Laura talks about the fundamentality of self confidence and how its a key target for eradicating ones nerves in live performance. We also discuss the privilege of creatives in modern day technology as opposed to the 80s & 90s.
I decided to throw Malverns Deads Dad Club off by approaching their creative procedure for "Stayin In" in reverse! Frontman Lee Richardson & bassist Jim Smith gave me a vast load of background within narrative, intention & creative production and discuss their upcoming release, The Basement Sessions aswell as the plans for their slot at Lakefest this year! It was really nice to have Kaysha back on the show! Like myself, Kaysha is an advocate of sheer reminiscence both in music & mindset and we talk about the outlet of narrive & harmony being used as a device for that. Kaysha also breaks down the feel-good song and talks to us about the strength of her work alongside production engineer Jammy Harris.
In this stream of consciousness episode, singer-songwriter/instrumentalist Jimmy Boy Blue talks us through his perspective & experience of his own performance anxiety. He tells of a incident which had him face brutal critique many years ago and how it made him grow stronger as a solo performer. Jim also discusses third-person observance within anxiety & the empathy needed as a performer.
I've always seen performance anxiety as the merge of both ecstasy and terror; It surrounds ones passion to perform and from what I've researched in the past, it seems a peak performance lies somewhere right in the middle of these two strong components, like the stratosphere. Just as three layers make up earths atmosphere, so does our hope, fear & the balance between them. I hope you guys enjoy this series alongside my other two!!

It was great to speak to singer-songwriter/producer Richard Marc about his new release "Put It In A Postcard" and how he binded the A to Z in harmony, lyrics & instrumentation. We discuss the difficulty of writing a "simple" pop song and the power in its outcome. Apologies for the cut out at the end. I've had a vast amount of technological difficulties recently!
This was one of my favourite episodes. I talk with songstress Kayleigh Morgan about the downfall albeit uplifting effect of opening up lyrically. We discuss the unexpected perspective of factual characters in songs and how perhaps having a song written about you ISN'T always something to be appreciated. Kayleigh also talks us through other aspects of being flesh/bone raw in music and her exciting projects in 2021.
After binging The Satellite Stations array of songs over the past few months I was honoured to talk to the songwriter behind it, Travis Rue. He opens up about the multi perception of the lyrics but also how fast the creative procedure was and how special this particular song felt. In Episode 30 of Beyond The Notion - I fall into the creative ocean of "Ocean" by Jeoff Harris (Cathartic fall) and was fascinated to hear how (and why) he designed the song all the way from the initial idea he had one morning to the textural components in the production and marketing of this floating ballad.
I got to talk to Luke Royalty who releases "I Do" today! Lukes bedroom pop demonstrates an array of musical treats from his solid story-singing to his stand out vocal tone. Luke tells me about his effortless approach not only in his expression but also in his writing and discusses his upcoming releases.
This episode was supposed to be the breakdown of one of my most played 2020 songs, "Now We Know" but, as per, I end up digging deep into the surfaces of the writers mindset & their creative motion.
