Spontaneity. Most people live a life of habit and routine. But the by-product of routine is a comfort zone. The human brain conspires to keep you safe and sound in that comfort zone. But are you happy there? How do you bring more spontaneity into your life? How do you say “yes” more often? David shares how you can embrace the spontaneous life he lives in this episode of My Extra Mile.
In this episode, you will hear: * How to be more spontaneous * Why our brains conspire against us * Learn to live in the unknown * How David embraces spontaneity
Learn to live in the unknown Think about the times you did something unexpectedly. Maybe it was unplanned or last-minute—but you had the best time. David believes you’ll have hundreds of examples in your life where the unexpected became a beautiful memory. But our brains run contrary to spontaneity. Why? Because the brain is afraid of the unknown.
David believes there are three zones that we are caught between, the comfort zone, the uncomfortable zone, and the unknown zone. David attempts to live his life in the unknown zone. He believes it all comes down to self-trust. To flow in the unknown means, you have to trust yourself to handle and navigate what will unfold.
David’s spontaneous adventures When David travels, he aims to get lost entirely. He goes with the flow and ends up taking wild adventures. But it’s rare for someone to live their lives and exist and flourish in the unknown zone. So how does David do it? David built the muscle from 10 years of backpacking around the world. He didn’t know where he was going or what he would do. He didn’t know what the food was like or what the language would be.
When David was in Europe last year, he ended up in Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, and even Budapest, Hungary. They were driving and saw a sign for Vienna. So they took the exit and decided to take a horse carriage ride through Vienna. It was beautiful. They had no idea where they’d end up that night.
People book vacations for all-inclusive resorts. They go to places that remind them of home. David emphasizes that you need to fight that urge. Because the magic happens when you lose control, David understands that fear comes up in the unknown. But when you develop the ability to navigate the unknown, it does become fun. Something unplanned and spontaneous can feel even better than the planned.
Bring more spontaneity into your life. Spontaneity has sculpted David’s life. He lives in a level of self-trust where the unknown zone is the exciting part of his journey. You absorb, taste, smell, and hear differently. David believes you’ll find the connection to the experience becomes richer. You vibrate at a higher level.
How can you bring more spontaneity into your life? You have to drown out the voice in your head. Overcome the “logic” in your brain. Say yes to what you wouldn’t usually say yes too. When you feel nervous or out of control, stay in it. See what shows up. David flips a coin at every crossroads and lets it take him where it does.
When you do the same thing year after year, it feels as if time passes faster. You’re repeating similar things over and over. Imagine if you could make a day feel like two days, a week feel like two weeks, or a month feel like two months.
Flip a coin and get lost in your city. Discover places you haven’t walked. Do something impractical that makes no logical sense. Make choices that are more spontaneous and vibrant. Break up the monotony and do something outside of your comfort zone.
Why not try it, embrace it, and go after it?

It doesn't matter what type of partnership you're in; you should regularly ask relationship questions to keep your communication lines open and healthy. From business partnerships to personal connections, there will always be obstacles that you will need to conquer together. There is a reason you chose your person as a partner, but do you ever take the time to remember what that reason is?
In this interview, Beth Hanishewski, the swiss-army knife of coaching, and David T. S. Wood share some powerful questions you should ask yourself and your partner. Beth and David are both experts in the field of relationship repair, and they aren't afraid to get real about the root of the issue. If you're ready to move your relationships to the next level and transform your partnerships for the better, this episode is a must-see!
In today's episode you will learn: * Transforming your relationship * Figuring out where your relationship is on a scale of 10–0 * Understanding what the rating you assigned to your relationship means * Taking action today to work on getting your partnership to a 10 * Remembering WHY you chose that person as a partner * Two powerful questions you can ask to generate meaningful, open communication
How to rate your relationship on a scale of 10–0 As a seasoned relationship expert, Beth always challenges her clients to take a moment to rate the relationship in question on a scale of 10–0.
Take a moment to choose a number for your relationship before you read on.
If you chose 10–9–8…
You're happy, for the most part.
You have some bad moments, but they don't have a lasting impact.
You may experience a temporary loss of connection, intimacy, or in how you speak to each other.
If you fight or argue, it doesn't even occur to you that you will leave the partnership.
No REAL threats to the relationship.
If you scored 7–6...
You may find yourself saying, "I love them… BUT…".
There is one big reason or "but" that you're struggling to move past.
Most of your issues have been resolved, except that "but".
If you rated your partnership a 5–4...
You WANT better your situation.
The relationship is threatened, and you're considering leaving.
You may have been contemplating leaving for a while.
There isn't just one issue, but several that you're concerned about.
But if you rated your relationship a 3–2–1–0...
This area is the most dangerous.
You may have completely given up on your relationship already.
You may not even care to put in the work to fix your situation.
What can you do to start building your score? Both Beth and David agree that it's best to work on getting your relationship to a ten before making any drastic decisions on your partnership. While you can start to do the work on your own, it's best to include your partner by inviting them to be part of your process. Calmly and respectfully open the conversation to see if you can both agree to do something for 30-days. If they don't agree, commit to making the change yourself. Chances are, your partner will see a drastic change in you, which could allow you to approach the subject again in the future.
Remind yourself why you love that person, and why you chose them in the first place rather than focusing on the issue. Try to notice the little things you appreciate about them, instead of what they do that bother you. Taking these steps to change your mindset will help you close the gap to reach that perfect 10.
The two most important relationship questions you can ask Beth mentions two easy relationship questions that you can ask today to start generating a conversation with your partner. Even if you aren't sure where the issue is, this can gauge what areas your partner may see problems:
Did you notice the focus of these questions? These allow your partner to share some things that THEY need from YOU, rather than opening up the conversation with things YOU need from THEM. This gentle opening can make even the most apprehensive partners feel open to sharing with you. Plus, chances are, once they've answered your questions, they will probably ask the same of you!
Whoever it is that you choose to do this work with, you chose them for a reason. Even if it's someone you decide to part with, David suggests that you should do your best to only say positive things about them to people you both know. If you're able to do this, you may be able to end your relationship on good terms and continue having a positive relationship with them for years to come.

Anna and Morgan have been together for 15 years and they’ve developed an extraordinary relationship. But how did they get there? What is the foundation of their strong relationship? What did their journey look like? In this episode of My Extra Mile, Anna + Morgan share how they developed their relationship and what ‘life together’ looks like for them.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * What ‘life together’ means to Morgan + Anna * Building an extraordinary relationship on unconditional trust * Why “Self-love” isn’t woo-woo but vitally important * Internal motivation is the driving factor for change * Why you NEED to nail down your shared values * The difference between a belief and a value * Why people attract the wrong men or women * An exercise: Look at your non-negotiables together
A life lived 100% together Anna + Morgan do ALL of life together. They work from home together, they work out together, and they travel the world together. Morgan jokes that the only reason they don’t have kids yet is because he doesn’t like going to the gym alone.
Has it always been easy? Of course not. Things were toxic when they were young and in the “party” phase of their life. They’re careful to point out that they’re not perfect and their life journey is unique to them.
You simply have to know what you want. Anna knew from the time she met Morgan that he was always going to be in her life. They failed forward together and held each other through the lowest of the lows. They’ve navigated the highs together as well.
They’ve had so many ups and downs. Morgan has spent many nights on the couch. But they’ve gotten to a beautiful stage in their 30’s. They don’t really fight—they disagree, then they’re over it. But how did they get there?
Unconditional trust + Self-love Morgan points out that their relationship is built on unconditional trust. He trusts Anna with his life. Whatever is going on, they always come back together. They know that they can’t live without each other in their lives. They’re a team, a unit, lovers, & best friends. They take those responsibilities seriously.
But they also love themselves—and unconditional love for yourself spills over into your relationships. You have to feel whole in yourself first to feel whole in a relationship. As you learn to love and trust yourself more, your relationship can flourish. Anna loves the quote by Maya Angelou: “I don't trust people who don't love themselves and tell me, 'I love you.'”
People run into issues because they look for motivation from external circumstances or other people. External factors can be motivating, but the motivation for real and lasting change—physical or otherwise—has to come from within.
Because Anna and Morgan strive towards becoming their own powerful individuals their life together has become sweeter and more grounded. But they admit it’s a journey.
You NEED alignment on core values What are your shared values? If your highest value doesn’t align with your significant others, the simple truth is that you probably won't work out. That’s not saying you have to agree on everything—because that’s not how relationships work. But your life-values need to align and adapt together. You can have separate growth journeys, but they need to intersect.
Morgan’s example is Protestants and Catholics: Their core beliefs are completely different, but their values are the same. You need to sit down and hash out what your values are together. For Anna and Morgan, the things that matter most to them—honesty, integrity, humor, and trust—bind them together.
So how do you develop an extraordinary relationship? How do you find out if your values align? Anna and Morgan state you need to determine your values.
Determine your values by taking Dr. DeMartini's Value Determination Test. Most people think they know where their values lie and then find out they were dead wrong. It’s perfectly fine—but it’s better to know. You can then navigate and work out your life around your values. If your relationship is in turmoil and you’re at a crossroads, nail down your individual values. If they don’t intersect, it may be time to move on.
Anna and Morgan share other resources that they believe impacted their relationship positively—be sure to listen for their recommendations.

How do you find your purpose and passion? How do you overcome years of abuse that the world has thrown at you? How do you shine your light? Mahima Klinge firmly believes that we need to explore how our culture has taught us limiting beliefs and redefine how we live life. If you’re ready to take that step, listen to this episode of My Extra Mile.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Stay open and willing to connect with humanity. * The passion that happens when a woman finds her voice * The strongest people have traveled the darkest roads * One of the biggest mistakes that Mahima made * Mahima’s journey to finding her voice * Learn how to find a quality connection with humanity * A conversation about the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements * How to navigate the disruption everyone faces * Mahima will walk you through an eye-opening exercise
Women have gone through lifetimes of oppression and dimmed their light Many women know they’re capable of more, but don’t dare to push for more. Mahima works to support women to accept their story—everything that has ever happened—as part of their power. Her passion is to help women strip away their limiting beliefs to realize they can do anything they set their heart and mind to.
Mahima knows that from personal experience. She has a seven-figure business and a beautiful marriage. She wakes up every day with purpose. But she comes from a background of abuse, both physical and emotional. She also grew up in Zimbabwe during apartheid. In that environment, you feel like your voice doesn’t matter. But she’s learned a different way of thinking, operating, and being in the world.
Her goal is to help her students understand that you come into this world with nothing and you will leave this world with nothing. So she strives to teach others how to live. She points out that once you understand how precious and fragile your time is, you can stop wasting it.
Don’t be in relationships that don’t serve you. Don’t be in a job that isn’t your passion or something that you don’t love. Allow yourself to start operating with more presence. How you show up in a room matters. What you say to people matters. What people feel around you matters. How do you amplify the voice that you have? Listen to learn more from Mahima.
Set a clear vision for your future Mahima implores you to create a clear vision for your future. Do you want to write a book? Build a community? Have a committed relationship? Make decisions that guide you to what you want. What are your values? What makes your heart sing? What makes you come alive?
Your vision will change. But it just needs to be aligned with your value and your purpose. Mahima struggled in the past because she wasn’t moving towards something—she was just floating. Decisions were being made based on what was convenient or comfortable at the time. But she emphasizes that all of the magic happens when you step outside of your comfort zone.
What would make you feel like 2020 was an epic year for you? What would need to happen in your existence to feel that 2020 was an epic year? Whatever you do, Mahima says to choose something that stretches you. You can ask, “Does this really light up my soul? You have to ask yourself some tough questions to get to an answer.
It all starts with awareness and the willingness to be honest with yourself. Then you need to do something to change. You need to start planting seeds today. What is the story you want to be telling 10 years from now? What is the conversation you want to be having?
Mahima has created a training that helps people to see more and be more. It simply starts with being present. Where do you want to focus right now? You have to center yourself and live in the moment. It’s the beginning of liberation. You can see things in a new light.
How do you learn to navigate the disruption in your life? How do you learn to move from “me” to “we?” How do you become the best version of yourself? Listen to this whole episode for Mahima’s eye-opening approach.

Are you aware that your childhood experiences can influence your money mindset? You may not be aware how deeply your life experiences influence the decisions you make regarding money and finances—and how destructive it can be.
In this episode of My Extra Mile, Allan and Lari Hilzinger join Dave T.S. Wood to share some exercises that can help you overcome negative beliefs and reprogram your money mindset. If you need some money tips that will help move your future in the right direction, this is the episode for you.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * How your childhood influences your money mindset * The biggest impact on Allan and Lari’s money mindset * How to reprogram your money mindset * What you can do today to change thoughts * How to make behavioral change regarding money * Money tips that help you have a healthy relationship with money * The right mindset opens you up to new opportunities
Where is your money mindset rooted? Allan & Lari have been through their fair share of ups and downs with money. Lari remembers feeling responsible for money at a young age. She’s experienced having it all—and having nothing. It took her a long time to realize she was repeating childhood patterns in her adulthood. It was pounded into Lari that you need to work hard for everything in life. A lot was expected of her, and she was expected to show up for her family and her community.
Allan never had money as a kid. He was talented in sports but putting pressure on his parents to help pay for gear, travel, etc. was out of the question. They always had enough to get by but that was it. Despite it all, his Dad always said: “At least we’re happy.” Allan grew up with the mindset that people who have wealth just happened to get lucky or they came into wealth. He would gamble thinking if he could get lucky, he could make money. Instead, he got himself into a lot of debt.
How do you reprogram your money mindset? Lari and Allan point out that you must acknowledge and understand that your money mindset has stemmed from everything you’ve experienced and modeled up until this moment. To overcome your mindset, you must dig deep into where it comes from. One of their money tips is to write down what your mindset is, look at it, understand it, and accept it. You must learn to appreciate that it’s the journey you’re on.
Lari took a course—that she talks about in depth in this episode—where she realized that she always ran to her Dad when she was in trouble. Do you run to someone else to solve your problems? When things get tough, where do you turn? Can you reprogram your actions? Keep listening to hear their thoughts.
Making behavioral changes regarding money You have to be open to change. One of the money tips Lari and Allan recommend is learning one new thing about money every day. Turn your cars into universities. When you’re hiking or working out—listen to a podcast or read a book. Your wealth can only grow to the extent you grow yourself.
Another one of their money tips is to surround yourself with people who are in a better financial position than you so you can learn from them. Who are the people in your life that do have a handle on their finances? Ask them questions! Recognize that behavioral and mindset changes are a continual shift and change that will require effort.
Lari and Allan emphasize that you must also take responsibility and start budgeting. Budgeting is NOT a constraint—it’s a freedom. How can you live your life with the money you have? It’s the best way to set yourself up for success. Verbalize where you’re at and what you want. Know and understand that it’s a journey—you can’t change it overnight.
Lari and Allan got clear on what they wanted, they set goals, and they took action. They were focused on their goals—and then the money came. Where focus goes, energy shows. How do money archetypes play in? What are the archetypes? Listen to the whole episode to learn more!

How did David come about buying his boat? How did the process end in a beautiful and unexpected partnership? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David tells the story in detail, demonstrating the power of his philosophy of 100% trust—100% of the time.
In today's show you will hear: * 100% trust 100% of the time * The story of David's boat
David's unexpected journey David is admittedly the happiest in water—sailing boating, scuba-diving, swimming—it doesn't matter. David was living through a Canadian winter, and it struck him: why not buy a boat? And when David decides something, it usually happens within 24 hours. So he started looking for a boat immediately.
When David first started looking, he found a boat in Mexico, on the Sea of Cortez. So he flew to see this 72-foot boat and felt like he had to talk himself into it. Now, he points out that it's very easy to see how people look after things when you look at a boat. You can see if they take the time to maintain something well.
David walked on the boat and immediately knew it wasn't a boat he would buy. It was apparent that the boat was now well looked after. He spent the night, and early the next morning told the Captain he wouldn't be buying it.
David takes a detour. After looking online again, David came across a boat in Antigua (in the Caribbean) that looked promising. So he called the broker (Mike) but was told the boat was sold, and that the potential buyer would be closing the next Wednesday. David asked Mike to let him know if the sale fell through.
David stayed in Mexico and waited to hear back. The buyer backed out. The boat was perfect, and this guy loved it. But he was in the middle of a divorce, and his wife wouldn't release the funds. It took David 17 hours to fly there. David walked on the plane from Miami and sat in his seat. The woman beside him apologized and asked if he minded switching seats with her husband. David switched seats and immediately lets the broker know he was on his last flight.
6.5 hours later—after they land—this guy (Bud) stands up and asks David about the boat. He had overheard David's conversation. Apparently, he had been on the boat twice and was thinking about buying it. The only reason he hadn't was because his boat dock wasn't long enough. He told David the boat was immaculate. David asked for his number to keep in touch if any questions came up.
From a bar to a boat David took the boat out, and it was everything he had heard. It was gorgeous. The engines were immaculate. The family selling the boat was beautiful. David started to think about his personality style. David likes making quick decisions. But he was worried about caring for such a large boat so far from home. The boat was a great deal.
David went to bed that night, hoping to decide by the next day and leaning toward passing on it. He decided to go out and grab a beer. As he walked up to the bar, this beautiful woman called out his name and asked him to join her. Then he sees the man from the plane next to her. They spent the evening laughing their heads off and having a fantastic time together.
An unlikely partnership The next morning, David texted Bud and asked him "Would you like to be partners in the boat?" He texted back immediately and said, "I'm not into partnerships, they never work for me." David responded and said, "Well, you've never been partners with a guy like me." One minute later, he said, "Alright, let's do it." David told the owner they were going to buy the boat. They show up and looked over the boat one more time.
They've been partners for almost a year now. David had a deep sense of who Bud was when he met him. It was easy to tell by how he treated his wife and his children. David didn't have any doubts about working with them. It's proven to be wonderful. Now they have half the expenses and half the cost.
100% trust 100% of the time How much time do we spend distrusting others? How much energy do you waste worrying about being safe? David's approach to life leads to many beautiful stories. If they prove him wrong, it's okay. That experience won't become his lens to view the rest of the world. Because of his life philosophy, he has this amazing story and brand new friendship.

What labels have you assigned yourself? What ‘bio’ do you project as who you are? Are you placing limitations on yourself because of what society says about you? In this episode of My Extra Mile, Andrea Henkart Joins David T.S. Wood to talk about becoming an awakened person and moving beyond the limitations that you’ve set for yourself.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Learning how to move away from external influences * The impact of social media on young women * How to change women’s mindsets about themselves * Recognizing the labels, you’ve assigned to yourself * Why most people don’t show up authentically with their parents * How to re-establish self-trust and authenticity * The role of adversity and overcoming in awakening * Practices to ground yourself in the moment * Embracing “yes” can radically change your life * An impactful story about the power of kindness * How to change your environment to change your energy
Change the narrative for yourself—and future generations There’s so much pressure on men and women to look, act, and show up a certain way. Andrea points out that the perception that women have of themselves isn’t based on reality—it’s based on society. Women have lost sight of who they are and what their value is.
But she emphasizes when we can quiet ourselves and listen, we can come to a place where we believe and trust our own self: “When we value ourselves from the inside, we ignite from the outside.” Unfortunately, society and social media are all about comparing—and comparison truly is the thief of joy.
Andrea notes that adults need to show up as an example for their children. Modeling is how kids learn. How ‘mom’ is feeling about herself is what she is projecting to her child—insecurities and all. Embracing yourself leads to setting better examples for your children. Focus on creating more love, more peace, and more friendships. When you feel beautiful it radiates from within.
Move beyond your bio A lot of women struggle with self-worth and self-love. How does Andrea help someone awaken in the workshops she offers? She puts women in groups to talk, share, and go deep. When given the opportunity, women can be real, raw, and move beyond their bios. They’re allowed to question: Who am I? It’s about being real and showing up—and being radically honest with yourself.
One attendee told Andrea that she had never really trusted women before. She was a businesswoman and always related better with men. But she was allowed to be raw and open with a group of women. She realized it was what she’d craved for so long. Women walk away feeling empowered.
Re-establish self-trust and authenticity Andrea lost her husband in a tragic plane crash. It was a struggle to pull herself out of the ashes and recover from the loss. She had to reevaluate who she was, what she was going to do next, and how she was going to show up as a human. And it was painful. But she notes that it was David that helped pull her out. He said, “Andrea, how much longer do you want to feel this?”. It was a pivotal moment. She knew she needed to start letting go of her fears and start saying “Yes.”
Andrea points out that we all have adversity in our lives that we must accept and overcome. But you must reflect on the adversity and acknowledge: How much longer do I want to stay in this space? It’s okay to be in a place of not knowing or not having an answer. But you can find depth within yourself to grow and rise from that. You can’t change your world without changing yourself first.
But how do you do that? Andrea shares that you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously. Find ways to have more fun, say yes more often, and live in gratitude. When things look really dark and you feel your worst, focus on what you’re grateful for. There is a voice inside all of us that is wise—but we don’t listen to it. Tune into that voice. Listen and trust your intuition.
Andrea shares a powerful story about kindness, some practices to ground yourself in the moment, and how to change your environment to change your energy. Don’t miss this episode!

Have you ever received relationship advice that is so simple and easy to implement that it seems too good to be true? Energy + Value + Currency = Happiness! In this episode, David T. S. Wood and his guest, relationship guru Beth Hanishewski, discuss this proven formula that can help you find happiness and hope in your relationships. If you want to learn more about this formula, this episode is a must-hear!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * A relationship formula that works * Identifying your partner's energy * Figuring out what they value most * What your partner's love "currency" is * Beneficial questions to ask your partner * Relationship advice and homework to help you get started
How to recognize your energy Think of energy in 4 quadrants: feminine light, feminine dark, masculine light, and masculine dark. These names aren't speaking to gender classifications but rather the characteristics that accompany different types of energy.
For example:
Now, think about how your energy changes when you're around this person. When you think about that person, do you feel yourself anticipating their energetic effects on you? What energy makes you feel your best? Try to pinpoint that feeling to focus on when you're around that person. When you change your energy, you may see a shift in theirs as well!
The secret to nurturing their values Have you taken the time to consider what your person values most in life? Their values are the unconscious, intangible things they hold highest in their life. If you aren't aware of their values, you could be unintentionally robbing them of the most crucial elements in their life.
The feminine tends to value safety the most, which includes physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, sexual, and even financial matters. When you do or say something that makes them feel unsafe, you will be able to see their energy change. If you're not sure if you're affecting them, ask! Once you know, talk with them to see what you can do to help them feel safer.

Relationship advice to help you move forward When used correctly, the relationship formula results in happiness and hope for yourself and your relationship. But, if you take away any of the pieces, you could see the energy shift back into the dark/negative zone.
If you aren't sure where to start, ask your partner these simple, but effective questions:
Take responsibility for your actions and forgive yourself and your person for not knowing better. When you're in your light, everything around you is affected. But, when you move into the dark, everything around you becomes INFECTED.
HOMEWORK: Apply the formula to your relationship, note what happens, and see how it changes things for you. Focus on keeping your energy positive, shower your partner with the currency that means the most to them, focus on the values they crave, and don't set any expectations. Expectations are the thief of joy.

Are you ready for ONE tip—one simple exercise—that can radically change your life? Are you ready to shift your focus to shift your reality? In this episode of My Extra Mile, Allan and Lari Hilzinger share the vision exercise that has been a game-changer in their life. What is it? Listen to find out!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * This ONE tip will radically change people’s lives. * How to shift your focus—and shift your reality * A simple vision exercise, that changes everything
You NEED to be future-focused Before Lari embraced this life-changing exercise, she always found herself dealing with financial concerns and relationship issues. She spent all of her time trying to get out of the current situation—not focusing on her future. She didn’t have the time to define ultimate goals and was spiraling out of control. She was stuck in what she didn’t want, which is a dangerous place to be in.
Allan and Lari point out that when we look at the average person, their reality creates their life. Some people are crap magnets where everything goes wrong. Why is that? Because they’ve accepted their reality and do not strive for change. So of course, nothing changes. They continue to attract struggle.
Once they realized they could change their vision to what they wanted to create things began to change.
A vision exercise: “I choose the end result of” The exercise Lari & Allan embrace is simple but profound. You create a list of positive choices and your heart’s desires: It starts with “I choose the end result of” and YOU fill in the blanks. Allan shares some of his:
Lari shares some of hers:
You take your vision statements and envision what each item looks like every single day. You visualize what the end result looks like. No limitations. No conditions. Imagine it as crazy, amazing, and as beautiful as you can imagine it.
How to bridge the gap between current reality and the future They admit that it’s not easy to do right away but the exercise becomes easier as you begin to believe it. To help bridge the gap and find actionable steps you can take towards the future you’re claiming they recommend doing this:
In Allan’s example, he envisioned the end result of building a highly successful and profitable business empire. In his vision, he sees himself doing business deals, making tens of millions of dollars, and using money to make more money.
In his current reality, he’s made six figures but the last year has been a rough go. So he looks over the bridge and decides on an action step:
I need to talk to more people about the opportunity of network marketing.
Don’t get caught up in the how They both emphasize that you can’t get caught up in the how. Instead, get caught up in the vision. It doesn’t have to happen a certain way. If you succeed, focus on the success and not the negatives along the journey—because it’s all about the end result. However, that happens, it happens. It often won’t happen the way you think it will so you must be open to how it will unfold.
They use the example of a rubber band: one end is your current reality and the other end is your vision (your end result). As you stretch the rubber band—holding your vision and focusing on the end result—it’s structurally impossible for you not to get there because you’re creating tension. The only way to quit is to quit on the end result. If you have negative tension, you get pulled more towards negativity.
At every single moment, we get to choose what we focus on—the negative or the positive. Hold that tension and hope for your vision. A vast vision is scary for a lot of people. But it IS possible. Listen to the whole episode for an in-depth discussion on this powerful vision exercise.

When you hear the term "working couples," what comes to mind? Is it two people who work in different careers? Do you think of a couple who own a business together? Maybe you think of two people working side-by-side in an office with a common goal? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood's guests, married couple Kyle and Megan Nekrash, have worked together for many years and are familiar with the struggles you may be facing. In this episode, they share their insights into working with your spouse, sharing your vision with a partner who doesn't get it, and overcoming obstacles together!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Figuring out how to get your spouse to see your vision * A realistic timeline to success and the work it takes to get there * The truth about residual income * Tips to help you work together successfully * Making time for yourself and your partner * A working couple's tips for success
How to help your partner see your vision Do you feel like your partner just isn't getting it? You see a vision of what this business can do for your lives, but your spouse doesn't see the big picture. Kyle went through the same thing when he was just getting started. After years of saying "no," he went to an event where everything finally clicked. But not for his wife, Megan!
To help her see the big picture, he did the work to show her the impact it could have on their lives. He's a big believer in "show, don't tell," and did his best to show Megan how drastically different their lives could be with network marketing. By proving to her that it was worth his time, she eventually had her "Aha" moment, where everything finally clicked. Megan's tips for other non-believing spouses are to have patience with your partner, do your best to understand everything, and gain some knowledge so you can see how your dreams change too.
A realistic success timeline and the truth about residual income It took Kyle and Megan 5 years to go from non-believers to cumulative million-dollar earners in network marketing. But, it's important to remember that every success story is a little different because every couple and individual has different skills they are bringing to the table. Through hard work and sacrifice, they were able to build a life they love with enough time to do things they enjoy.
With residual income, you're ALWAYS going to have to work to maintain your income. There is a myth in network marketing: once you get the customers and build the team, you can sit back and earn without doing any more work. But in reality, your income will always fluctuate. Just like your life changes frequently, your clients and team members will go through changes too. If you don't put in the work to support and listen to them when they struggle, you may lose their business for good.
A working couple's tips for success All relationships are challenging at times, but when you add a business to the equation, things can get complicated. Kyle and Megan have been there and want to share their tips to help you work together successfully:
The journey will be long and success won't happen overnight. Developing your business will take time but when you hold on to each other and respect each other's roles in the partnership it will be easier to focus on your goals. Stay aligned and find a new way to find joy every day!

22% of the UK population is living with a disability. 1.3 billion people globally have a disability. Those 1.3 billion people spend over $8 trillion a year in the market. Yet only 0.06% of advertisements feature disabled people. Martyn Sibley runs a marketing agency that is a vehicle for his life mission: the inclusion of disabled people.
Martyn is trying to wake businesses up to a world of marketing that they’ve been ignoring. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood talks with Martyn about his disability, his mission and vision for the future, his love for travel, and how he’s changing the world. Don’t miss this educational and inspirational episode.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Martyn’s vision for a more inclusive world * Becoming disabled versus being born disabled * Thriving versus surviving: The ability to adapt * What life was like for Martyn growing up * How Martyn met his soulmate * Martyn’s passion for traveling the world * Martyn’s philosophy of life * Moving outside of your comfort zone
Disabled people get to dream, too Martyn was born with a genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. He was 3 when he was given his first power chair. It gave him freedom and independence. Living to adulthood wasn’t a guarantee for him. But his parents found support groups and answers to the barriers they were facing. They learned that those barriers are more cognitive than anything else.
Martyn points out that life will be different, but you should still dream for the biggest mountains for your children. It may take longer to get there. You may have to take different paths. But ultimately, you can still live out the dreams you have for your family. Martyn emphasizes that every life is valuable and there are beautiful experiences to be had regardless of your circumstances.
Overcoming the barriers society has placed on the disabled The biggest barrier Martyn faces is the fear of having disabled people in marketing and advertising. Why? Martyn points out that people are afraid to get it wrong. They’re afraid to have conversations altogether because they don't want to end up with their foot in their mouth. But Martyn would rather someone uses words or phrases that aren’t politically correct if they’re speaking from their heart and with good intent. He shares that “Language has a point and a place, but it’s more about connecting as people.”
The world has not been designed to include disabled people. Martyn notes that “The more disabled people are a part of designing the environment and attitudes and policies, the more the barriers they face are pulled down.” The ultimate goal is that he’ll just be a person—not a disabled person—with no more barriers out there. He notes that “It’s about changing the stereotypes of what someone can or cannot do based on a perception.”
20% of disabled people are born with a condition. 80% acquire a disability. As you get older, the incidence is higher. Martyn notes that another reason society is uncomfortable with disabilities is because it’s a glimpse into the reality that anyone might have to face that circumstance.
Martyn’s message is one of inclusion Consumers are looking for particular products and services that speak to their vision of sustainability. People want to buy from brands that are inclusive and care more about people than profit. Brands are taking notice and realizing that it’s time for a change. They are looking to employ more disabled people and to be more open and accessible. They are shifting towards inclusive marketing—but it’s a slow change. Ultimately, a world needs to be created to be inclusive for all people. And you have to have all of the different voices in the room in order to guide change.
Martyn’s journey is one of joy, passion, and inclusion. Listen to the whole episode to learn more about his life, his passion for travel, inclusive marketing, and how to build a world inclusive of all people.

To date, both she and David have spent countless hours taking classes, studying resources, and training with experts in their field. Why? Because they feel that the people, they mentor deserve a leader who has been in the trenches and can relate to whatever struggles come with the business.
David and Lisa both understand what it takes to become an expert in the network marketing industry. What steps are required to get you on your way to achieving the lifestyle you crave? In this powerful episode, Lisa dives deep into the path she has paved, and shares some life-changing tips you can put in place to reach whatever goals you may have.

An expert look at what makes an effective coach If you were to go to your favorite search engine right now and type in "network marketing coach" or "lifestyle coach," you will receive a mixed bag of experts and novices who all want to get your ball into their court. But if you only have a limited budget or if you're new to the industry, how do you choose the right fit?
Having studied coaching for years, lived through experiences that have honed their skills, and continued studying to this day, Lisa and David are both blown away by the volume of people calling themselves coaches and experts. To find the right mentors, they suggest the following tips:
Choose a variety of mentors Your mentor should be relatable, but also have a lifestyle you admire. Additionally, they need to have the experience to back up any claims they make. They also suggest changing or updating your mentors as you progress through your business and in life, to help you maintain momentum.
Write down your limiting beliefs Figure out why your insecurities are there and give yourself the space to figure out what brought them on. Try not to let other people's opinions affect you because they can make you second guess yourself.
Reevaluate the people you spend time with Examine your pool of friends to see how they align with and support your goals. If needed, find new people to spend time with that leave you feeling full and supported.
How to utilize life experiences to find your path We live in a society driven by money. But earning enough money to have the freedom to live how you want can be challenging. Lisa's career started as a super-successful pharmaceutical rep. with a generous income, a company car, and an expense account. After leaving that role to spend more time with her family, she moved into her first network marketing role for a beauty company where she quickly rose through the ranks to become a top earner. But when she realized that many players on her team weren't treated fairly, she decided to step away from that organization to find her next path.
After leaving that company, Lisa faced divorce, losing her close friend and mentor, and having to face the job market as a single mother. Taking some time to figure out what she was looking for, she developed a list of criteria that her next network marketing opportunity needed to meet. She based the information on the lessons she’d learned from her life experiences up to that point:
What was on her list?
Bonus: How to figure out where you are on your personal growth journey During this conversation, Lisa shares an exercise that she often recommends to those who are trying to assess their personal growth. Write three letters to yourself to discover your reality:
By having these three letters, you will be able to find the middle ground that can help you discover your next step towards success.

When it comes to network marketing, it can be challenging to know when to trust your gut and make a commitment to an unknown path. Kyle Nekrash is no stranger to the thrill of needing to make a quick decision and often follows his gut not only in business but through every adventure he takes. In this video conversation, Kyle and David T. S. Wood discuss the “you’re kidding me” moments that have defined their journeys and taught them valuable lessons throughout their lives.
Kyle’s story is full of passion, hard work, and lessons learned. He has discovered that by using his head, heart, and gut, he can navigate each phase of his life confidently and faces all challenges with a “just do it” attitude. If someone has done it before him or if there is a lesson to learn to teach others, he will face it head-on.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Finding the courage to take a risk * Pinpointing the “You’re kidding me” moments in your life, and how they’ve influenced you * Learning how to develop trust and confidence in others * Navigating your inner elevator to decide when to trust your head, heart, or gut * Defining which opportunity works best for your circumstances * Getting back to a heart of gratitude and making meaningful connections with people
What is a “You’re kidding me” moment and how does it influence your actions? Have you ever experienced a scary, embarrassing, frustrating, exciting, or challenging moment in your life that left you exclaiming, “You’re kidding me!” Kyle defines these moments as opportunities to learn more about yourself. They can have a lasting effect on your development and can make significant changes to your personality. The moment you decide to do that scary thing or shift your actions to adjust after an embarrassing moment, you start developing characteristics that can help you face anything confidently.
That moment of fear leading up to a new experience and the happiness you experience afterward can help build your confidence to take the next risk. Kyle and David encourage you to keep getting back up every time you fall because this proof of your resilience can help inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
When to trust your gut in the decision-making process Kyle uses an elevator to illustrate our internal decision-making process:
When you’re embarking on a new journey in life or starting a new business venture, your brain may try to stop you from taking action by reminding you of all the financial or emotional consequences that may follow. In your heart, you may feel the pull to do it for the chance to succeed, but your head may be clashing with that desire. Ultimately, your gut is what leads you to decide when it’s time to take action.
How to practice a heart of gratitude In times of struggle, it can be easy to lose track of the importance of connecting with others and sharing your experiences. You never know the impact your story could have on inspiring others, so follow your gut and learn when it’s the right time to share your story. If someone influences you and helps you along the way, take the time to practice gratitude regularly and, when possible, share your appreciation face to face.
There’s no right or wrong way to approach a new opportunity. Find a way to make it work for you and trust your gut to know when to take action. Whatever decisions you have in front of you will provide an opportunity for you to learn (whether positive or negative) and can help guide you to the next right thing. Be open to all offers in front of you and trust your gut to know when to take action!

The masculine values freedom, including their time and energy. Do you ever tell your partner to do something with the expectation they do it right away? Consider giving them the time to decide when and how they'll do it instead.
Identifying their "currency" In the relationship formula, currency is how you show your person you care. Some examples of the different types of currency are:
When both sides of the relationship are paying out the right type of currency, you will achieve that perfect connection. You can then work towards creating synergy to see who they truly are, instead of criticizing them for their flaws. Be sincere in how you work towards your happiness, and the results will speak for themselves!
In this episode of My Extra Mile, Shawn and Kari-Lyn Owen share a philosophy you can embed in everyday decisions to move you forward in your life. It helps you view your setbacks and obstacles differently so that the biggest setbacks can be some of your greatest learning lessons. You can have the greatest why, but if you can’t identify and work through your obstacles, it’s far harder to reach your goals. They share the powerful framework that helped them start reaching their goals in 4 simple steps.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * The ‘WOOP’ principal that Shawn and Kari-Lyn live by * How to identify and overcome obstacles * How WOOP can be applied to simple and extraordinary goals * How to recapture the art of dreaming * The process of self-discovery to reach your inner struggles * How to integrate this framework into your life * How to start small and work your way to larger goals * How to utilize this strategy with your family
‘WOOP’ is a 4-step system created by Gabriele Oettingen that is professionally referred to as Mental Contrasting with Implementation Intentions (MCII). It’s a well-researched way to help YOU achieve your goals. How does it work?
Before implementing this system in their life, Shawn & Kari-Lyn never felt prepared for major obstacles. This was their missing piece.
Human beings tend to look at success stories and see the result. You don’t see all of the muck in the middle. Shawn points out that when you look at the obstacles you’ve overcome, that’s where the richness comes from. You don’t love it in the moment because you can’t see the end. But those obstacles are where the breakthroughs happen. He states that “You can’t create success without having some challenge along the way.”
You must identify obstacles to overcome them When you know the obstacles that could be in your path you can plan for them. Shawn and Kari-Lyn emphasize that you must have a strong enough desire to succeed. Working through the obstacles needs to feel worth it. If the outcome of your wish isn’t strong enough to overcome the obstacle, it won’t happen.
What does your wish look like? What will it feel like for yourself? Your family? Break the obstacles down into mini obstacles. Do you believe you can do this? Shawn and Kari-Lyn share the extraordinary goal that they’re working toward and how they break the process don’t. Listen to hear what their process looks like!
Stop using external excuses to hide an internal struggle Shawn believes that most people start with an external excuse such as “I don’t have enough time” or “I don’t have enough money.” But those external excuses always come down to an internal issue. Most core issues stem from a belief that you aren’t worthy or aren’t good enough. It takes a brave person to allow themselves to go to that level.
They emphasize that you need to look for patterns. When else do these excuses show up in your life? When has this happened in the past? Was there a life-defining moment in your childhood where your internal conversation became “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not lovable?” When you know the root cause you can acknowledge what’s happening and look at your behavior to decipher: Is this moving me towards my goal? Or away from my goal?
Implement this strategy in everyday life Just like anything else, incorporating this into your life takes practice. It’s just like an athletic coach who doesn’t start a beginner with something they’d expect an expert to do. Shawn suggests starting with something small. As you begin to reach those small goals, it motivates you to continue reaching towards the large goals. Look for evidence that this works with something simple. Get the little wins, build the muscle, and then aim for bigger goals.
Their final piece of advice? Whatever is happening, you can do one thing every day to push towards your goals.

Lisa had a massive stroke at age 30. Her husband fought and overcame prostate cancer. Lisa’s daughter has struggled through debilitating mental health issues. Lisa Wolny has overcome a lot of tragedy in her life. She has a depth of courage and perseverance that most people don’t. But she feels that the last 10 years were the training ground for what will be the greatest build in her network marketing career. Listen to this episode of My Extra Mile with David T.S. Wood as they discuss her journey through life and network marketing.

How Lisa became a network marketer
Lisa hit rock bottom. After recovering from a stroke and trying to handle four children, Lisa was desperate for a solution for her health. Lisa was being heavily recruited to become a network marketer, but it wasn’t until she hit rock-bottom that she was ready to give it a shot. She needed flexibility and income, so why not? She understood the numbers quickly and thought “Who wouldn’t want to do this?”
David believes in the right vehicle at the right time with the right you. You have to be ready for it.
The product experience that she had is what changed her mind. She wanted to be a better version of herself. When she saw the numbers and paired it with her experience, she felt she had a responsibility to impact thousands of lives. She wanted to share the message with the world. So, she went all-in on network marketing.
Network marketing is about pouring into other people
Lisa’s first year was all about herself. It was about getting her transformation down. But during that process, she enrolled a ton of people. She was all in—but not all-in to pouring into other people. She made $27,000 from home her first year while becoming the best version of herself physically.
Then she went to an event and started questioning, “How does this really work?” She figured out what she needed to do. It had to stop being about her and become about other people. The next year she made $133,000.
The next year her father-in-law passed away. Her mother-in-law has dementia, so they took her in. It was a huge transition. It was the first time she had to rely on residual income. It’s usually during a crisis that you realize the impact of that residual income. When she was out of commission caring for her mother-in-law, her income didn’t drop. Have you learned to master fear and discomfort to push yourself to places you thought were unreachable? Heather Atkinson thrived for 5 weeks alone in Norway’s bitterly cold winter. How did she do it? How does she find comfort and joy in being alone? Heather shares her fascinating journey in this episode of My Extra Mile with David T.S. Wood.

Heather’s journey into Norway’s bitterly cold winter
Heather wanted to see how far she could push herself, so she went to Norway in the middle of winter—alone. She wanted to answer the questions: How much would you push yourself when you’re completely alone in a remote place? What will your mind and body allow with no outside influence? How can you control your fear? So she took 5 weeks to see what she was capable of. She told no one where she was or what she was doing. She didn’t need anyone to push her—or congratulate her.
Her biggest fear was not being able to completely commit and realizing that she could fail. So she had to push herself every day. She constantly thought: “What will you feel like at the end of the day if you haven’t done it?” She didn’t want to feel disappointed or mediocre. If she could make it through one day, she could make it through the next. When people set their minds to something, they don’t necessarily have an agenda. They just reach their goal with whatever means necessary. Heather did what she set out to do.
Embracing the Wim Hof Philosophy
Not only did Heather spend 5 weeks alone but every day she spent time buried in the snow—in her bathing suit. How? By training under Wim Hof and following his methods. His courses help people understand their own thresholds. His whole philosophy is to help you understand that you can do anything. You can train your brain to do as it’s told and not let fear kick in. The breathing techniques can help your pain receptors turn off. You lower your heart rate and don’t feel the cold as intensely. It’s built around controlling the breath.
Her trip to Norway was her way of taking his courses and putting them into practice. When you’re buried in the snow and 100% immersed in the cold, there’s a point where you reach a euphoric stage in your brain. Your whole-body tingles, your ears ring, and you feel as if you’re going to pass out. You don’t feel any pain. She learned to harness that feeling of elation the entire day and then she learned to carry that through her everyday life. The joy she found far outweighed the fear she faced.
Live in a state of joy: Find what makes your heart sing
Heather grew up in a tough home. At a young age, she vowed that she would never live like that again. She wasn’t going to let the little things in life bother her. At 17 she left home and she lived for 10 years in a van. She always told herself she was the luckiest person on the planet—and truly believed it. You can resolve to choose joy. Being able to see the joy in everything is her greatest gift to herself.
When Heather is feeling anxious, afraid, or in a negative state of mind she does something physical—she trains hard. She emphasizes that everyone can do something that makes their heart sing. For her, it’s something physical. You NEED to take time to find something you find joy in. Find something that makes your heart sing and do it every day. To hear Heather’s powerful and adventurous life story, listen to the whole conversation!

What does legacy income really look like in network marketing? If you have a killer first year, should you expect that to continue? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood chats with Anna and Morgan Richards about network marketing. More specifically, they talk about why it’s not treated like a legitimate profession and what can be done, and misconceptions about how network marketers make income. If you’ve been on the fence about network marketing, this is the episode that could change your mind.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in...
Why network marketing is frowned upon by so many
Why are so many people turned off by network marketing? Because they think of the inexperienced or the worst examples of network marketers as the standard for the entire industry. People come into this wanting a change or transformation in their life, but they lack the experience. They don’t have the training and understanding. People form an opinion on network marketers who are in their infancy. What do Morgan and Anna do differently with their teams? How does it make an impact? Listen to find out.
Success is about showing up—no matter what
When Anna left a six-figure job and threw herself into network marketing, she was arguably not ready. But she got to work. She was training women in a profession she didn’t know and learning alongside them. She learned that she needed to take the pressure off of her “title” and simply be present. It was about being in the trenches with everyone else and failing forward. It was about showing up no matter what.
Building a legacy income isn’t linear
Every business has natural peaks, valleys, and plateaus—network marketing is no different. Anna’s first year—working harder than she ever has—she made $400,000. Every year since then, they’ve done approximately $200,000 or so a year. Anna’s highest income was her first year. Why? Partially because of when she started in the year and how different events and promotions can amplify the income. But they’ve earned multiple six-figure incomes in network marketing for seven years. Dropping from $400,000 to $200,000 is a normal business cycle. It’s a process of learning and a challenge to overcome.
That’s why it’s important to understand the natural cycle of building a legacy income. It’s about building a foundation and developing a team. Morgan and Anna note that while you’re building stability and a solid foundation, you should keep your life simple. Ride out the peaks and valleys as you build your legacy income, so you NEVER find yourself in a place of desperation. Anna and Morgan continue to discuss how different ranks impact you, why you shouldn’t make drastic lifestyle changes, and why comparison will take you out of the game. Don’t miss it.
Why should YOU go into network marketing?
Why should you say “Yes!” to network marketing? Anna and Morgan have spent six years figuring this out and they’re grounded in it. Anna points out that it’s not a matter of if you’ll do network marketing—but when. Everything is becoming referral based. You’re already doing it.
Morgan points out that approximately every 10 years or so, the economy lets us know that jobs and security can be volatile. It is a necessity to have something like this to give you breathing space to fall back on in times of desperation.
The more good people that can find their way into the profession will raise the tide for all ships. It will continue to legitimize network marketing. Financial wellbeing and longevity will become more important. Ai and robots can’t do what network marketers do. It’s about taking freedom to another level.
Why is the network marketing industry dominated by women? Why does Anna believe she was destined for network marketing? Listen to the whole episode for her story!

Everyone has a number that they subconsciously accept. Do you know what yours is? In this episode, David walks through a thought exercise that can radically change the way you think about money—and life. If your income isn't exceeding your expectations, listen to this episode.
In this episode, you will learn: * Walking through a game-changing thought exercise * How to change your mindset + up level your attitude
What is your subconscious number? What is the number you've been trading your time for? When you think about becoming a teacher, it's rare that you sit down and discuss what that choice will bring you financially. A teacher in Canada likely makes between $40,000–$60,000 a year.
That subconscious number will chase you from profession to profession. The New York Times ran two similar ads for the same job—except for one detail. One ad listed the salary at $100,000, and the other was $40,000. The majority of people applied for the $40,000 listing. Why? Because you are preprogrammed with a number, you're willing to trade time for.
Walkthrough this thought exercise... Draw a stick person with a thought bubble over its head. Write the number that you've averaged over the last ten years. What's the number you've chosen? With the current number, how would you describe your lifestyle? How is your life? Is it suffocating? Limiting? Do you have freedom? Add another zero to your number. What will life be like?
David emphasizes that it takes the same energy to make $300,000 as $30,000. Wealthy people don't have more time in their day. Even worse, people who make $30,000 often work longer hours at worse jobs. If you don't want to become an entrepreneur, write the very best number in the arena you're in.
Then think about how you can add an extra $10,000 or $20,000? Without having to work 24 hours a day, how do you achieve those numbers? You have to overcome the limiting belief that your time is only worth $30,000.
Take it one step further: change your mindset. David has made over $1 million in a year, and he's created financial freedom. But he had to start by asking himself: Who do I have to become to add a zero? What do I have to think? What do I have to believe? You have to realize that you can have an impact on your number and take responsibility for it.
David had no goal to be a billionaire. It wasn't about getting rich or famous. He wanted to make a lot of money and have a great life as he went. He was clear he didn't want to work in an office 18 hours a day. He didn't want to trade himself for this number.
How would somebody who makes $600,000 a year act? What would they think? Successful people have a different mindset. Some of the richest men in the world didn't even complete school. It wasn't their education that gave them an edge. They had a philosophy of contribution, of taking risks, and of passion. How are you thinking, talking about, and showing up in the world? How do you grow yourself? Your wealth can only grow to the extent you grow yourself.
Up-level your attitude David goes into every single day with a positive attitude. Having more comes down to how you treat yourself internally and how you treat the world around you. The magic is in what you can control. David became somebody that wasn't a victim of his circumstances or how he felt. He was willing to be positive, vibrant, kind, aware, and generous. As he started to grow more, he had ideas he'd never had before. It was allowing him to open his mind to things he'd never thought about.
If you added that extra zero, start thinking about how you will walk and talk. What would you be interested in? What will you read? What people will you hang out with? How would you sound? How will you embrace that? Give off that energy and notice what happens. It's a better way to live. You don't have to be rich to grow yourself, but you have to develop yourself to be rich.

How do you build an authentic social media following? Today’s guest on My Extra Mile, Krystal Morrison, shares her method for approaching social media. She shares the rituals that she implements each day, how she manages social media, and how she’s built a community. If you’re striving to cultivate a social media community—don’t miss this episode with David T.S. Wood.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * What made Krystal the woman she is today * Why Krystal chose to embrace social media * Why some people gain traction and others don’t * How to bring genuineness to your social media * Developing congruence between real life and your social media * Modeling after—but not copying—people or brands you admire * The daily rituals that Krystal embraces for success * Setting boundaries with social media * How Krystal constructs her Instagram posts
How to grow your following organically and authentically When you seem to be doing everything right, why isn’t your following growing? Krystal asks you to reflect: What were you feeling when you were posting? Were you having the worst day ever? When you aren’t in a good place, your posts won’t be well-received. There’s a larger energy at play.
A lot of people post something and don’t stick around to build community. Krystal posts to communicate and connect with people. The goal is to build relationships. To do that, her goal is to connect with 5–10 people a day. Another thing she recommends. Read your comments and respond to them authentically. More comments on your post helps the algorithm as well.
Krystal is genuine and truly desires to get to know people. She doesn’t see them as a target for her business. She always comes from a place of “they spoke to me” and “they’re human.” She’s hoping to bring some light into someone’s day. Listen to hear the method she uses to connect and build relationships.
How to develop congruence between real life and your social media If Krystal can’t show up authentically, she doesn’t. If she’s having a hard day, she just doesn’t log on. She gives herself permission to come back to the platform when she’s in a better place. Then maybe she’ll share the story in an inspiring or funny way. Because life isn’t perfect. But she wants to share what led to the bad day or what she got out of it. If someone comes to her page, she wants them to feel they got value out of the interaction.
The rituals that Krystal embrace for success Krystal has two children and when she wakes up to them, she’s engulfed in their world and their needs—just like any mother. So, she started getting up earlier to take 15 minutes to quiet her mind and meditate. She tries to take 5 minutes every day to write out what she appreciates and is grateful for—everything that feels good in her life today. What makes you feel light, fun, eager, and excited? She recommends doing that before you do anything else. It’s simple but it elevates her energy.
How Krystal sets boundaries on social media Krystal likes to implement a schedule, so she doesn’t hit a place of burnout. Krystal only works after she’s had an hour in the morning with her children. She also allocates 30 minutes to check her inbox. How many times do you login and get distracted? Don’t get stuck in the scroll-hole. She gets on, makes her post, and interacts with 10 other people.
It’s about being intentional with your time—not getting lost in the scroll. Krystal also turns her notifications completely off. The truth is, you have control over when you pick up your phone. Create control in your life and what you allow in your mind at that moment.
She notes that “How we’re taking care of ourselves is how we will show up in social media and our businesses.” If your social media feels flat, how can you connect more? How can you bring light and love into someone else’s day? Be a connector instead of just a poster. For the rest of her tips and tricks, listen to the whole episode!

David has always struggled to understand what people are talking about when they refer to their “haters.” He has an extreme dislike for the word “hate.” He even avoids using the word in everyday life. In the middle of a conversation with Zach Slobin, David had a realization. So, in this episode of My Extra Mile, David discusses his realization about the “haters” you may encounter—and what to do about it.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in… * How to address angry people * Miscommunication is often the root of hate * Why “haters” don’t exist * Why you should take a look in the mirror
“Haters” may just be hurting David recently posted a photo of himself on social media with a mask on that wasn’t completely covering his nose. One woman took it upon herself to comment “Wear your Fing mask.” His initial response was to delete the message. He could tell she hadn’t read the post because he had stated he was standing in his garden* when the photo was taken.
Instead of deleting the comment, David responded and asked her not to swear on his posts. He also pointed out that she probably didn’t read the post and encouraged her to read posts in the future before leaving a crude or angry comment. That’s when David realized what a hater is: someone with a contrary view that they express in an angry manner.
David grew up in a home where beatings were a regular sport. When kids only get attention through anger, they interpret that as love. They grow up and their learned behavior is to get attention through anger. David chose to believe that this woman was simply incredibly lonely. Instead of seeing her as a hater, he chose to see someone that was hurting.
She could’ve seen the post where David wasn’t wearing his mask properly and instead say “Hey Dave—just to be safe—you should wear your mask properly.” It’s a completely different energy.
It all stems from miscommunication David points out that it’s hard to communicate over text or via social media posts because you can’t read body language and tone. People easily read something the wrong way. Because of this, David realizes that “haters” may not understand him or what he was trying to say.
A guy posted an angry comment on one of David’s posts. So, he took the time to reply and express appreciation for this man’s opinion. He took a moment to explain his intentions to help him understand a comment. This person commented back almost immediately, apologized, and said he was having a bad day. When people are angry and vomiting words, they project their own hurt, anger, and frustrations onto other people.
Address your “haters” to turn things around Do you have the option of deleting angry comments? Absolutely. Do you want to? No. Because they’ll just do the same thing to someone else. David emphasizes that you have the chance to address it and encourage better behavior. If they continue the rude or crude behavior after a conversation, you can certainly block or delete them. Give them an opportunity to change. You don’t need to block someone because they have an opinion that’s different from yours. If you’re posting something in a public domain, people will have contrasting opinions.
Look in the mirror: Either someone else is projecting—or you are What are you projecting out to get negativity back? Are you taking responsibility for your actions? Are you making assumptions? What will someone feel when they read your posts? If you’re going to make your thoughts public, put up with the people that don’t agree with them. Accept that it comes with the territory.
David doesn’t believe there’s such a thing as haters. People don’t hate you. Reach out to them and ask questions. Ask why they’re commenting negatively. Don’t be afraid to have a conversation and address the issue. Do you have the capacity, strength, and courage to be bigger than the anger? Can you learn not to react, but to respond?

Do you know what your superpower is? Tracy O’Malley’s superpower is the ability to talk to anyone. It’s useful in network marketing, sales, and even just everyday life. The world changes color when you have the ability to talk to anyone. So how do you talk to anyone? What is the key to connecting with other people?
In this episode of My Extra Mile, Tracy O’Malley returns to delve deep into the power of self-awareness and how it’s the foundation for anything you wish to accomplish. She talks about learning your Enneagram type, learning to see each type in others, and how to adapt your approach to connect with people on an individual level. If you want to learn her superpower of being able to talk with anyone, this is where you need to start!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Tracy O’Malley’s superpower: The ability to talk to anyone * How she cultivated the ability to talk to anyone * The nuts and bolts of learning to talk to someone * How to determine your Enneagram type * Adapting your energy to the person you’re with * Adapting how you communicate with your children * What it’s like to be able to talk to anyone
Use the Enneagram personality test as a starting point Tracy could always read people, even as a little girl. She saw things that other people didn’t. Looking back, she sees it as an intuitive gift. For most of her life, she used that skill to protect herself and manipulate others. Now, her intuitive abilities come from a genuine and authentic place of love and compassion—not protection and guardedness. Those are the skills she uses today to help change the world and help others step into who they are.
But how do you get to that place? Tracy had to learn to realize the motive behind how she was communicating with others. The Enneagram helped her put together a framework to understand who she was. It helped her understand that “Everything that I do, everything that I say, every way that I communicate is coming from a place of ‘Tracy doesn’t want to be backed into a corner, be vulnerable, or rely on anybody.’” You have to understand that and have compassion for yourself.
Tracy was originally hesitant to take the Enneagram test. She didn’t want yet another label. Now, Tracy is vocal about how important the test is and believes it’s one of the greatest tools you could ever use in personal development. It can help you get out of the box the world has put you in. It can open your eyes to things that haven’t made sense to you.
Do you want your message to be received? You don’t want people to adapt to you because they’re afraid of you. That doesn’t build a connection—it builds fear and divisiveness. If you’re choosing to be a leader in your home, business, or the world, you must be willing to adapt first. There IS a way to be effective. You can adjust your tone, the words you use, your posture, and body language.
Tracy realized that if her kids—or whomever she was interacting with—weren’t receiving the message she wanted to convey that it was on her to change. If they can’t receive your energy you must choose to adjust if you want your message of love to be received. Tracy shares some deep and insightful stories of how she learned to communicate and connect with her kids in a meaningful way. So, keep listening!
Awareness is the key to transformation Making deep and meaningful changes is going to require some radical honesty with yourself. You can’t pick what looks good on paper. The enneagram is a roadmap that helps you decide where to go. If you have the wrong coordinates and wrong compass, you’ll be going the wrong direction the whole time. It’s only effective if you are honest with yourself.
Each Enneagram type has its own superpower. You can’t operate on the superpowers that you aren’t. Own who you are, look at the whole package and have compassion for yourself. You must remember that developing self-awareness is the key to all transformation. The Enneagram test is simply a tool that helps you become more self-aware—but it can be life changing.
Tracy used to thrive being in-control. As a child and even as an adult she never felt seen, heard, or understood. The ability to see that in others is giving them a gift, whether or not they see it. She can see past their shields. It is her greatest superpower, without question. Because it’s coming from a place of love and compassion for humankind. If you’re ready to find your superpower, listen to this episode of My Extra Mile!

Elon Musk has said “One thing I worry about with my kids is they don't face enough adversity.” Why would he say that? Why is overcoming adversity so important to someone’s personal and professional development? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David shares his thoughts on how powerful adversity can be.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in… * Why kids need to experience adversity * The value in overcoming adversity * Why David values loyalty * How to grow from adversity
Why your kids need adversity David sees the value when his kids are going through hard times. When his son broke up with his first love at 15 years old, David was excited that his son got to experience heartbreak. Why? Because he’d have to learn how to navigate the heartbreak to understand what a “full heart” is.
When David’s son hitch-hiked across China and Japan, there would be times when no one would pick him up. Most parents would freak out—but David was excited. His son would have to learn how to navigate the challenge. But he’d come out on the other side with a great story to tell. He was alone, in a foreign country, stuck on the side of the road—but triumph followed.
Overcoming adversity is powerful People look for compassionate and trustworthy leaders. How do you learn compassion if you’ve had an easy life? If you have a rich parent that was able to make your life easy? Elon Musk is concerned his kids won’t properly learn if they can’t walk through adversity.
Are you truly dealing with adversity? You may not be—you just think you are. Are you embracing a victim mentality? Or are you doing your best to grow every day, despite what you’re working through?
You may be dealing with loss or navigating a divorce. You have to keep moving through it. David sees that those with a victim mentality are resigned to the problem. They give power to the obstacle. You don’t have to stay a victim. The first key to all transformation is awareness. How do you become acutely aware of what you're doing? Create the awareness that you’re in a place you don’t want to be.
Assigning meaning + interpretation David is passionate about network marketing. He aligns with a world-class company and they’re currently dealing with large challenges. Leaders have left the company and people are assigning meaning that isn’t there. They’re worried that the company is struggling because of the turnover—but that’s not the case.
Why do they leave? David believes people leave because their ego takes over. They think they’re bigger than the company versus being in a partnership. Someone else may be paying big bucks to obtain them. Every person that has left David’s company hasn’t succeeded anywhere there. So how are they going to do it anywhere else?
David has seen many people he’s respected leave—and he’s lost respect for them because of how they left. They drift from one company to another. Humans assign things meaning, and that meaning can often be faulty.
The truth is, every great company goes through a point where they have to soldier forward. Can you imagine a world without Amazon? Jeff Bezos borrowed money from his parents. Now they’re billionaires. What about SpaceX? SpaceX has faced setbacks, adversity, and lack of funding. Now they’re the first privately funded company to send people to the space station.
Grow through the adversity David emphasizes that there is no easy way out. You have to go through the lesson. You have to look in the mirror and take responsibility. How did I create this? What can I do to solve the problem? Who do I have to become? What’s my next step?
If you know someone who is struggling, how do you link arms with them and let them know you’re there for them, even when it’s tough? Don’t turn your back on people that have been there for you. The reason you succeeded is because these people stuck by you when times were tough. Now it’s your turn.
Adversity will amplify your strengths and your weaknesses. When it amplifies your weaknesses, what are you going to do about it? Decide who you are, who you want to be, and what you want your legacy to be. If you blame others, justify, complain, and bow down to the obstacle in front of you—you see who you really are. Champions are made from adversity.
David’s challenge: The next time you face adversity, suck it up, look at it for what it is, and understand your thoughts. Then make a decision: What step will you take next?

The world is struggling with a mental health crisis where very few people realize genuine happiness. Victoria Johnson—the Director of The Museum of Happiness—runs a nonprofit social enterprise where they share the science and art of sustainable happiness. Their mission is to provide people with tools as a preventative measure to alleviate suffering in the world. Listen to this episode of My Extra Mile with David T.S. Wood to learn more about Victoria’s mission—and the path she took to find genuine happiness.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * The factors that lead to genuine happiness * What Victoria’s experience in Cambodia taught her * How the path to happiness begins with acceptance * Reflect on three things you’re grateful for each day * The one sentence that can help calm you * Why the brain sabotages success and happiness
What Victoria’s experience in Cambodia taught her Victoria volunteered at an orphanage in Cambodia where there were 52 children—the happiest children she’s ever met. They’d been through severe trauma. They’d all lost their parents. Yet they had a sense of togetherness and community. They got up every day and meditated, did yoga, and played outside. There was a lot of love. Victoria’s experience at the orphanage inspired her to work at a youth organization when she returned to the UK. She was struck by the mental health challenges the young people in the UK were facing.
In Southeast Asia, there was a rich sense of cultural values. Their culture was built around being grateful, meditating, and doing yoga. Buddhism was strong. People had to trust in their faith. They were connected to one another but also connected to something higher. Victoria found that unless they were connected to a religion, the youth she was working with dealt with a spiritual disconnect.
So Victoria started learning about positive psychology. She learned about gratitude practices and trained as a mindfulness teacher. She had an inner transformation. Then Victoria started implementing gratitude practices with the youth she worked with. She started doing meditation and yoga with them. She began to see the same transformation in them. Their lives were the same, but they were able to carry the heavy loads more easily.
The path to happiness begins with acceptance A lot of people aren’t genuinely happy. Victoria believes it’s because people don’t know how to navigate their own thoughts and emotions. People think that those difficult thoughts and emotions are the “bad guys.” But they’re just trying to keep us safe. To combat this, you have to find ways to care for your mind and do things that make you happy. What are some ways you can do that?
Victoria says to write down three things that you’re grateful for. It releases happiness in your brain. She emphasizes that you must be very specific about three things that have happened in the last 24 hours. Why? Reliving the thing that you’re grateful for brings them back to life. It fires up different parts of your brain and hardwires it in a different way than verbalizing it.
Secondly, ask yourself: What do I need to take care of myself today? How can I be kind to myself? Victoria emphasizes that “You are an important project that needs time, attention, love, and kindness.” There are so many myths that it’s selfish or self-indulgent. But you’re a better colleague, friend, spouse, etc. when you take care of yourself.
Understand the brain to understand your feelings The brain is wired for survival. It’s an overactive threat responsive system doing its best to keep us alive. Victoria notes that you must learn to make friends with your mind. When you do that, you can rewire your brain to be happy. Victoria believes that you can be the attacker and the attacked—or you can be the soother and the soothed.
The things that you say to yourself and the tone of voice that you say it in can activate your threat system. But when you soothe yourself, it relaxes your whole nervous system. What would a wise and kind friend say in this situation? You must learn to speak that way to yourself. Listen to the whole episode for more about Victoria’s path to happiness—and how the rest of the world can do the same.

When it comes to your money mindset, what motivates you to save or spend? If you don't know the reasons behind your action, it can be hard to rewrite your story to achieve the life you want! Luckily, in this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood discusses this topic with a panel of money experts as they share simple steps you can take today to change your money mindset.
Changing from a spender to a saver starts with knowing where your money goes as you earn it and only spending on what you can afford as often as possible. If you want to find your money mindset, this episode is a must-hear!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Paying yourself and learning how to save * Setting aside money for your future * Finding balance in your life * Understanding where your money goes every month * Planning and spending consciously * Learning how to live within your means * What "fear of missing out" is and how to avoid it * Creating a realistic budget
How to change your money mindset Do you pay yourself first? Each time you earn money in your job or side hustle, you need to start setting aside some money to pay yourself! An excellent place to start is 10% of each paycheck going into your pocket and 20% for your savings or retirement. By immediately taking these funds out, you will begin to build a future for yourself.
You won't notice the savings right away, but as you consistently take an increment off your paycheck and pop it into your savings, or "set it and forget it" you will start to see a real change. It's essential to find a balance, though.
Find ways to consciously spend on things that matter and save for your big goals. Read and study money masters to learn how to manage your money effectively. Learn what compound interest is, where to put your money so it works for you, and spending and saving with purpose.
Saving, spending, and everything in between Did you know that the average person in the US has less than $400 in savings? When you live outside of your means, you won't be able to navigate trying times by having money in savings to help you come out ahead. These are the cases when people in need stack on additional debt by borrowing, compounding, and exacerbating an already problematic financial situation.
Additionally, before you purchase things with credit and build more debt, save instead so you can try to purchase it outright. Live within your means, and don't buy things emotionally. Don't buy a car you can't afford, don't buy a house and get wrapped up in a mortgage for more house than you need. Wait to buy until you can afford it or until you're ready to commit to the long-term purchase.
What's the priority for what you're buying in your life? Are you buying it because you want it or because marketing tells you you need it to live a good life? Do you feel like you buy things based on a "fear of missing out" (also known as FOMO)? It's crucial to understand your payments and earnings and how they play together in your financial future.
Building a budget that works Do you know how to start a realistic budget that will bring results? You have to create a budget that works for everyone's financial goals in your household by taking everyone's expenses and goals into consideration. Find an amount that includes paying yourself first and paying into your savings and paying off any debts or investments. If you don't have any debt, consider saving ahead of time so you can pay it off more quickly, like your own line of credit.
If you feel like you have too much month left at the end of your money, you need to change your money mindset. By rewriting your mindset, you can go from a full-time spender to an efficient saver. If you need more support, read books written by financial experts, find a money mentor, and learn how to be more comfortable talking to people about money!

Do you struggle navigating conflict to a successful resolution? Does engaging in conflict leave you running in the other direction? Are you ready for a strategy to master the art of conflict resolution? Conflict is naturally present in our lives, but most people are unaware that conflict can be resolved elegantly. How? David T. S. Wood shares his foolproof conflict resolution strategy in this episode of My Extra Mile.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * The three primary responses to conflict * The house of a thousand mirrors * Leadership and Self-Deception: Get out of the box * The importance of the right mindset * LEADERS: David’s foolproof conflict resolution strategy * A second acronym for everyday conflict
The three primary responses to conflict “The larger conflicts that we see consuming the world today are simply reflections of the smaller conflicts that consume us each day.” — David
David views conflict as something that naturally occurs when you live or spend time with other people. It’s when our wishes, desires, or needs don’t get met or matched with the person that we’re with we spiral into conflict. There are three primary ways that people respond to conflict:
David LOVES conflict. Why? Because after it’s resolved, a deeper relationship develops. Our experience with the world is determined by moment-to-moment feelings and interpretations. Humans are story-making machines. We experience the world as we are, and the world treats us in accordance with that—however we show up.
Get out of your box We all have a box that we carry everywhere. When we are closed in our box, we see everyone else as the problem. We treat people as objects (i.e. road rage). We are dehumanizing the person in that situation. Instead, if you’re angry, make an attempt to humanize the other person. How does that help you react differently?
When we are in our box, we push other people into their box. They become guarded, closed, and defensive—in a millisecond. We can’t get out of our box by trying to change or cope with others. Running away won’t help. Implementing new skills or changing your behavior won’t help when you’re self-focused. Instead, you have to focus your attention on others.
When we’re outside of our box we take personal responsibility. We want to help. We are open, connected, fascinated, and curious. We project a different energy and we feel differently. Connect starts with intention. Are you projecting connection and intention when resolving conflict?
LEADERS: David’s foolproof conflict resolution strategy David termed the acronym LEADERS:

When Mara Pomana was 23, she was introduced to network marketing. Something clicked, and she dove in, despite her parents' misgivings. A year in, she broke the six-figure mark. Mara's journey is one of success—but it wasn't without valleys. What Mara learned from the low points has transformed her. Listen to this episode of My Extra Mile with David T.S. Wood to hear how you, too, can navigate the obstacles in your way and come out even stronger.
In Today's Episode, you will learn: * Mara's experience growing up in Romania * The transition from Romania to Australia * What drew Mara to network marketing? * What network marketing has given Mara * The wall that Mara hit in 2020 * How Mara recreated her story * What Mara does to navigate the tough times
Mara wholeheartedly embraced network marketing. What attracted Mara to network marketing? She was lit up by just the idea that she could design her day. Even if she worked 12 hours a day, it was something she was creating for herself. It was a foundation for herself and her family.
She led with her energy. She wasn't skilled in the system, but she infused her energy into others. She became a magnet. She showed everyone that it was possible to make it in network marketing. The story that you're telling yourself about your life is important. It sets your day and your business up for impact. So, what changed?
The slow and steady decline of 2020 Mara's business was going well, and then it just slowly started dying down. All of a sudden, she realized she needed to look at her numbers. She started doing webinars and focusing on Instagram. But things kept spiralling downward. She crossed a line she never thought she would cross, and she began to worry about paying her bills. She started waking up full of fear and anxiety, and it became her reality.
Mara quadrupled her activity, but it didn't make a difference. It felt like she had to rebuild all over again. Her mind and her inner critic became her worst enemy. She was at war with herself. She was struggling to be the magnet that she used to be. Worst of all, she didn't feel authentic.
How Mara recreated her story Mara knew she needed to get into the right headspace at the beginning of every day. She couldn't just wake up and tune into her emails or phone. She needed to start from a place of abundance. Mara started having tough conversations with herself. She eased into affirmations. They only work when you believe what you're saying. Every day she got better at lifting her spirits. She learned to trust herself more, and she was making small incremental changes. Mara fought for herself.
She had to ask herself, "Is what I'm feeling right now attracting abundant things into my life?" Mara emphasizes that you have the responsibility to fill your cup up. You can't give when you're empty. People can feel your energy. Are you showing up in a way people will trust you? Your energy impacts the people around you—negatively or positively.
Mara started to think and behave with a vision for what she wanted in 5 years. She asked what her future self-did: What's her work ethic? How does she wake up? How does she speak with people? What's her posture like? What's her energy like? Who does she spend her time with? Who are her friends? She went deep. She needed to know if she was wasting her time or working smartly. It's hard to look in the mirror and say, "I could be doing more."
Surround yourself with the right people Mara learned she was surrounded by a lot of "yes" people. They never encouraged her to grow and do more. You want people around you who will help you do that. They don't tell you what you want to hear—they tell you what you need to hear.
Are you surrounded by "yes" people? Or people who can help you go from point A to point B? Find someone you can be yourself around—your real, raw, self. Show up without your mask and let people see the real you. You have the power to always change your thoughts. Only you can discover what more you have to give.

Being an effective leader is essential to growing and developing your team. But do you know what it takes to be a leader? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood interviews leadership expert, Cathy Savage, about leading with compassion and nurturing others to lead under your guidance. If you want to be a better leader, develop more rounded teams, and take your business to the next level, this episode is a must-hear!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * What leadership is truly about? * Learning how to step in and lead with elegance * The four attributes of an effective leader * Traits that will hold you back from effectively leading * The five steps of leadership * How to grow as a leader and build your team
What is leadership? What does leadership mean to you? Is it about assuming control of a team? Is it about stepping up to take responsibility when there isn’t any in place?
Leadership, at its core, is about unifying people to work towards a common goal. But to be an effective leader, you have to first work on yourself. You have to take breaks, develop your skills, and learn to step up even when you’re afraid. You have to constantly embrace your strengths, grow your weaknesses, and enhance your team every step of the way.
The four attributes of an effective leader are:
But a leader should also be:
Traits that hold some leaders back Gossip is one of the easiest ways to destroy reputations and erode teams. If someone is gossiping to you, they are more than likely gossiping ABOUT you, too.
Another obstacle many leaders need to overcome is ego. If you’re wrapped up in what is best for YOU, you’re not being an effective leader. You have to control your ego for the benefit of others because it will detract from your ability to lead effectively.
The four agreements to keep in mind are:
A leader unifies the team. When you know you can serve, heal, improve, and put others before yourself; you will be a successful leader. As long as you care, you can succeed! A good leader leads when no one is watching. If you’re going to say something, you have to live it and be true to yourself!
The five levels effective leadership The five levels of leadership that you will walk are:
Leadership is about continually getting better. You’ve got to learn different languages to communicate with different types of people. Remember that every master was once a disaster, but when you learn to adapt your style to different kinds of people, you will succeed.
There is a leader in everyone. You have to decide to move forward and grow every step of the way. Position yourself to make your presence known and step up and into the unknown.

Humans are conditioned to lie. A recent study showed that the average person lies three times in a 10-minute conversation. Why do people lie? The truth is that people lie for many reasons. People lie to gain freedom, to fit in, to avoid embarrassment—more reasons than you can count.
Sometimes, telling the truth can be incredibly hurtful. Words delivered clumsily or in anger can make a lasting negative impact. Learning to tell the truth with compassion is difficult—but important. Why? David. T.S. Wood shares his thoughts in this episode of My Extra Mile.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Why humans are conditioned to lie * How to tell the truth with compassion * Why you should trust your gut feeling * A challenge to clean up your act
How do you tell the truth with compassion? When you wield truth, it allows other people to be truthful around you. But it can be difficult to pull off elegantly and compassionately. David has friends who have awful body odor (it wasn’t for lack of resources). They didn't want to use deodorant because it can be harmful to your health. People talked about them behind their backs and it started to interfere with David’s relationship with them.
So, David started their conversation with: “Is this a good time to chat?” He warned them it might be a tough conversation and he wanted them to be prepared. His intention was to build a stronger relationship with them. If he didn’t care about the person or the outcome, it isn’t a compassionate truth.
David breaks a conversation down into these steps:
Telling the truth isn’t about being angry. It’s not about you being right or wrong. If you want your words to change how people behave or you want to be understood, then angry words accomplish nothing. The other person closes down and there is no room for truth. Examine where you’re coming from. You need to wield truth with compassion and elevate yourself above the situation.
Learn to trust your gut When people aren’t being truthful, you feel it. You might not be able to pinpoint it, but you have a gut feeling that you’re being lied to. You HAVE to trust your gut and your subconscious mind. When people aren’t telling the whole truth, you lose respect for them and trust in them—and rightfully so.
The subconscious processes 4 billion pieces of information every second when our conscious mind only processes 2,000. When little kids don’t like someone, parents tend to poo-poo it and force them into situations they’re not comfortable with (like showing someone affection when they don’t want). When that happens, we lose the trust in ourselves to trust that little voice and trust our intuition.
Why is living in a world of truth so powerful? You gain respect, forge greater connections, and build self-confidence. You gain a deeper sense of self-trust. David has found that negative energy ends when you tell the truth. We all know what it feels like to own the truth. Sometimes it can be liberating and other times it’s awful. But when you accept responsibility for your mistakes and tell the truth—No matter how embarrassing it is—most people appreciate it and empathize with you.
Are there some conversations that you’re afraid to have? Are there areas where you’re exaggerating or embellishing? David challenges you to look at your life: Practice cleaning yourself up. Stop telling the white lies. Lead with intention and remember what you want the outcome to be. Make your conversations solution focused. Build toward telling the truth with compassion—all the time.

You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * A story of moving from multi-career entrepreneurs to MLM experts * Focusing on WHY you want to share your business with others * Prioritizing what you need to do to achieve your goals * Setting goals and doing what’s necessary to reach them * Learning how to be ok with “No” and accepting feedback * An exercise to help you believe in yourself * A look back at what these experts would have done differently
How to start a MLM business and identifying your “why” Do you have a clear enough vision of why you want to get into MLM and can you share that vision with others? Do you love the business? WHY do you love it? Your “why” is unique to your journey and should be the motivation behind everything you do to achieve your goals.
Are you ready to invest in your MLM business full-time or are you planning to devote your time on the side while you continue your other full-time career? Understanding the time that you can invest in your business will allow you to scale your time accordingly and pinpoint the best place to start for your specific circumstance. The balancing act you will have to implement is unique to each MLM, so be ok with where you are and be kind to yourself along the way.
The power of a positive mindset In MLM, you will most likely receive more “No” than “Yes,” which can be incredibly discouraging! But consider it from this perspective instead: “No” may mean “not yet!” When you shift your mindset to focus on the positive and continually nurture the relationship with that person, they may eventually see your success and want a piece of it for themselves!
Additionally, as you grow your business and encounter more MLM experts, accept feedback on your business approach to update and refine your skills. In this industry, it’s a constant cycle of learning and growing as you identify the best and most unique way you can connect with your target audience. David says, “You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person, and you can’t say the right thing to the wrong person,” so try to keep this in mind throughout your interactions.

When it comes to sharing, it can be tempting to want your family and friends to join your business. But, focusing on the sales pitch is a dangerous line to walk. Instead, keep your language focused on yourself and YOUR journey, asking for support along the way. This will increase interaction with your post, keep your products and business in mind, and keep the conversation positive until they’re ready to learn more.

Do you feel like your inner critic is constantly working to keep you from living your best life? Learning how to silence it can seem impossible, but with the right people in your life and the right mindset, you can rewrite your inner dialogue. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood interviews best friends, Kylie Donaldson and Emma Van Der Waal, about their journey to silencing their inner critics so they could live their best lives. If you want to find your true potential and surround yourself with uplifting people, this episode is a must-hear!

Silencing your inner critic to find success Controlling and rebuilding our minds is no simple feat. To create a strong mindset, you have to start by knowing your worth. Then you can begin to build your belief and identify your direction in life.
The three elements of success are:
You may need to rewire your brain to find success. Start by immersing yourself in the lifestyle you want and believing that you CAN do anything. You don’t need to know everything when you start, but when you push out of your comfort zone, you will grow and figure out how much you DO know!
How to build a success mindset To build a success mindset, you can start by taking small steps every day. Create a vision of where you want to go and how you’ll get there by focusing on your dream. One of the simplest things you can do is create an affirmation to keep you motivated. Focus on whatever you’re struggling with the most, and then review it as often as needed.
Affirmation Examples:
To take it a step further, create some daily rituals to help you gain the skills you need to succeed. Some examples to help you start are:
How your environment affects your inner dialogue Is your environment positive with uplifting people? Or is it negative with people continually making you feel differently than you want to feel?
To help you create a positive environment, consider the following:
It’s important to remember to try not to focus on WHAT happens to you, but rather how you RESPOND to it. You can rebuild your mindset at any time!
Your stories will keep you stuck, so choose the story that you want to live. Deal with the problem, learn from your mistakes, and realize that it’s just a phase. Finally, surround yourself with people that will love you enough to help push you through the hard times. With the right people on your side, your story will shift back to the positive in no time!

How do you make decisions? Do you often find yourself struggling between multiple options? What if there was an easier way? David believes he’s found the key to decision-making—and it isn’t what you’d think. To learn how David T.S. Wood makes decisions—large and small—listen to this episode of My Extra Mile!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * David’s simple + mind-boggling decision-making process * How to challenge your comfort zone (don’t listen to your brain) * Why using logic leaves you stuck in a rut
David’s simple + mind-boggling decision-making process One of David’s friends recently sent him two different logos he was deciding between. Both were in alignment with his brand. So, David shared his decision-making strategy: flipping a coin.
David carries a Burts Bees lip balm canister in his pocket that he uses as his coin. He carries it as a reminder that we never know what the outcome of a decision should be. A decision is often making a split-second choice on something that will happen in the future that we don’t understand.
When David does one-on-one coaching, he tells someone to flip a coin—and then immediately evaluate how you feel. Often, subconsciously, you already know which direction you want to go. Once you flip it, he says to ask yourself: What is viscerally happening in my body?
It eliminates the waste of time of attempting to choose the right thing for a future that you can’t possibly see. David’s response to the coin clip immediately tells him that he’s leaning towards one decision or the other. It removes all the noise that is getting in the way of pulling the trigger.
Using the experience, you’ve had in the past doesn’t always equate to making a great choice for the future. You might be making a fear-based decision. Are you afraid you’re going to lose something or that it’s too big of a risk? You can talk yourself out of the most amazing adventures if you let logic get in the way.
Challenge your comfort zone (don’t listen to your brain) David emphasizes that the brain does everything it can to keep us in our comfort zone. Every time we step out of our comfort zone the brain floods the body with chemicals. We interpret those chemicals as fear, apprehension, doubt, and uncertainty. Our brain is attacking us chemically to push us back into the proverbial box. Why? Because the brain’s job is to keep us safe. Its why decisions are so hard to make. It’s why you must get in the habit of challenging your comfort zone. How do you do that? David shares a few stories that drive his point home.
David sold his home on a coin flip David knew something was missing from his life and he felt stuck. He was contemplating moving, so he flipped a coin to help him make the decision. It flipped in favor of him moving, so he went out to look for a house. He ended up stumbling upon the beautiful home he lives in now.
The house he was living in. It sold in 4 days. He had thrown a sign up in his yard. One day he looked out his window to see a woman standing in his garden. She apologized and said she had seen that it was for sale. She told David about her family and he told her to go get them and come have a picnic on the land to see how they felt.
So they showed up and had a picnic. They did it a couple of times. In the end, they asked to buy the land. It all started with the simple flip of a coin. Everything fell into place because David was willing to take a chance and step outside of his comfort zone.
Life is too short—so take a chance Are you at a crossroads? Is there an area of your life where you feel stuck? Are you in a job you hate? People are so worried about trying to get everything right that they remain stuck firmly in place. You are often using logic to keep yourself stuck. You can’t live life too afraid to make the wrong choice. Life is too short for that.
Instead, remind yourself that there’s always another adventure around the horizon. Deciding to move and have a whole new adventure can lead to a remarkable journey. David could give hundreds of examples of choices he’s made with a coin-flip (but in this episode he only shares a few). He implores you to have the courage to flip the coin, follow through on the flip, and remain open to the possibilities that follow.

Losing everything and finding yourself When everything falls apart, it can feel impossible to move forward and rebuild your life. But when you shift your mindset you will start seeing things from a different perspective, allowing you to heal. Start by letting go of the people and things that no longer serve you, being compassionate with yourself where you are, and sharing your story with supportive people.
But, be prepared for those who may not support your journey. Not everyone is in the mindset of growth and many people are comfortable exactly where they are. As you grow and expand your light it could intimidate people or make them feel bad. Be careful who you share your path with to avoid any backslides.
Your experience and unique perspective make you special, so take a step back and see how each part of your journey affects your story and identify what time in your life may be holding you back. The moment you become aware of this blockage, you'll be headed in the right direction to heal your pain and grow from the things that once held you back.
Where to start and how to grow Not sure where to start? Try ripping off the metaphorical Band-Aids you've put on your past and do the work to move forward. If you want to grow you have to repair, so you don't repeat the bad habits you want to move past. Your muscle memory can be challenging to overcome but staying accountable for yourself will help you achieve the life of your dreams!
When you start becoming your authentic self, telling your truth, and living the life you want, you may experience pushback. But when you keep pressing forward, you may find that your journey, strength, and hope will inspire others. It's important to remember that no matter how far down the path you've gone or how disqualified you feel for the life you want, you are worthy of everything in your dreams!
Your pain can be your gain Everyone carries wounds, but if you keep experiencing the same pain, you need to face it head-on to heal from it and move forward. Your truth can set you free, so connect with people you trust, let go of people who are holding you back, and focus on the things that bring you joy.
Rejection can be painful especially when it comes to your family and friends. Love, service, and heart are the keys to unlocking your potential, but your Self-love is the most significant piece. Show up, honor who you are, be compassionate towards others, and honor the journey you've been on so far. Don't be afraid to crack open a little bit so people can see the real you. Be prepared to let the world see you as you are and be proud of your journey!

What would happen if you walked through the world with a deeper trust in yourself and a deeper trust in humanity? David lives by the principle of 100% trust 100% of the time. He’s learned that when trust is present things move faster, which is the premise of Stephen M.R. Covey’s book The Speed of Trust. This episode of My Extra Mile is David’s exploration into the topic of trust and how to build it into your life. He shows that ability to trust impacts your life positively. David shares some amazing stories in this episode—don’t miss it.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey * David’s mantra: 100% trust 100% of the time * If you want the world to trust you, you have to be trustworthy * The concept of reconditioning your reticular activating system (RAS)
100% trust 100% of the time David operates on the principle of 100% trust 100% of the time. David believes his life flows easily because he isn’t consumed with distrust. It affects his ability to connect when he first meets someone. People have a lot of fear with how they protect their world, which closes them off. Just because you were robbed once doesn’t mean it will happen again. It’s how you respond and adapt that matters. David chooses to avoid carrying paranoia and fear with him.
You don’t have to live in a world of distrust. David feels that feelings of guardedness and distrust attract exactly what you’re trying to protect yourself from. How does David trust 100% of people 100% of the time? David shares a few stories that demonstrate that when you treat people with trust, people become even more trustworthy.
What happens when someone breaks your trust? That doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to your intuition. Some things are necessary. But you don’t want your default mode to be distrustful. You don’t want to walk through the world projecting distrust. If someone breaks David’s trust, he’ll have a conversation with them. David truly believes that when he addresses someone, he’s teaching them how to treat him. He’s showing them that what they did doesn’t work for him and he allows them to start over. If people prove themselves to be untrustworthy in multiple situations, David is certainly more aware of it.
If you want the world to trust you, you have to be trustworthy If you want the world to trust you, you have to be trustworthy. Keep your word. Do what you say you’re going to do. Apologize for your mistakes—and be sincere. Tell the truth—not an adapted truth or an element of truth but the whole truth. When you break trust, clean it up in an authentic way. People will relate to you and understand. Live in a world where your word is your bond.
When we are trustworthy, we teach people to trust us more. David emphasizes that you shouldn’t wait for the world to show you it’s trustworthy before you become trustworthy. David’s personal experience is that people show up as trustworthy when you give them the benefit of the doubt.
Recondition your reticular activating system (RAS) The world is more beautiful with trust. Our ability to share trust attracts and brings so much back because of your capacity to be open. David’s predominant thought pattern is trust. So he’s always seeing reasons to trust more.
Have you come across someone who looks menacing or distrustful? Your reticular activating system (RAS) is likely conditioned to see through the filter of distrust. But you can recondition your RAS to choose to trust and see good.
Perhaps the kid on the street corner in a dark hoodie isn't going to rob someone, but they’re cold. Maybe they just had a fight and are covering up their emotions. Whatever we predominantly think about we see and notice in the world. We see the world as we are.
You can choose to be a more open, kind, loving and trusting person. To hear all of David’s thoughts on the topic of building trust, listen to this episode of My Extra Mile.

Warren and Arlene were drowning in debt before they got into network marketing. They were conventional business owners fighting to survive—but going out of business. Warren wouldn't allow himself to fail because he had a wife, family, and staff he was responsible for. He had to do whatever it took to survive. Listen to this episode of My Extra Mile with David T.S. Wood to hear more about their incredible journey as they transitioned from conventional business owners to successful network marketers.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Becoming a successful network marketer * The concept of ready, fire, aim * Network marketing requires flexibility * Why network marketing is one of the highest-paid professions * How Arlene’s mindset helped her overcome cancer * The journey of network marketing opens up a world of opportunity
Becoming a successful network marketer takes drive Warren and Arlene have earned more than $10 million since starting network marketing. In the beginning, Warren got a $25 check. Then it grew to $150. Eventually, he was making around $3,000 a month doing something that didn’t feel like work. Arlene points out that “When you’re doing something that you’re passionate about and that you love, it never feels like you’re going to work.”
Warren is always working, but it feels like serving other people. But getting to that point requires effort. You have to put the time in to learn and grow. You have to be intentional and consistent. You have to make time for it. As you’re consistent, you evolve, and it becomes easier and easier.
The concept of ready, fire, aim The concept of “ready, fire, aim” is that you get ready and just dive in. You fire away while you’re refining your skills. You master the nuances as you go. So many people spend too much time getting ready to get ready and never pull the trigger. You don’t NEED all the answers to pull the trigger.
Your skillsets and marketing tools are constantly in flux. You’re always learning. But when you start impacting lives and feel the excitement of those people, it’s so easy to keep nurturing the business and watch it grow.
Warren points out that you can create residual income that can eventually replace your full-time income. Not only that, but the skills you develop, the conversations you have, and learning to listen can be taken outside of this profession.
Why network marketing is one of the highest-paid professions When you have someone try your products, you get 6% of the sale. If you have 100 people, you get $600. It seems insignificant for the effort. But what happens over time is that your network grows from 100 to 1,000 to 10,000 and it becomes significant. When people realize and capture the opportunity and believe they can do it, they become unstoppable. It’s all about building networks.
Warren has worked with and watched a massage therapist, a liquor distribution guy, and even a forklift driver begins to make 7 figures a year. What do they all have in common? What type of person should you look for? Who should you work with? Listen to hear Warren’s thoughts!
How Arlene’s mindset helped her overcome cancer Arlene was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Because Warren had made the shift to network marketing, he was able to be there and be her rock. He was able to be 100% present and not have to worry about missing work. It was a huge blessing for them.
When Arlene got diagnosed with cancer, she made a stance. She was going to be okay. It was challenging. There were moments where she was sad and afraid. She learned to allow herself to feel the fear and anxiety—but she wouldn’t allow herself to live there.
She emphasizes that you just have to make the choice that enough is enough. We all have life happen to us. Arlene learned to ask: “What is it that I’m meant to learn in that moment?” It’s critically important to be careful of the language that you put out—and the language that you allow in.
How does the journey of network marketing open up a world of opportunity? What kind of people do you find in the profession? How do the skills you learn translate into every area of your life? Warren and Arlene are full of incredible insight. Listen to the episode to hear more!

Do you feel resigned to the life you have? Do you have a vision for what life could be? Six years ago—before Abby found network marketing—she was a mom to two girls, a wife, and nannying full-time. Her husband worked for a marketing company and traveled all the time. They both had great jobs—but always had more month than money. They always had debt. They always had bills. They never had time together. She knew there had to be something more. Something was missing. No matter how hard she worked she couldn’t get ahead. She did all the right things, and it wasn’t enough. How did network marketing change her life? What did it take to get her on board with the process? How does vision-casting help you reach your goals? Listen to learn more!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in...
Vision casting: the magic wand question Abby emphasizes that vision casting is getting to know a person more than an outcome. You have to pour the belief into that person and show them that it’s possible. You have to paint a reality for someone that doesn’t feel possible. The vision and the belief belong together. When you ask someone what they want, they may not truly say what they desire in life because they don’t think it’s possible for them.
You have to ask the “magic wand” question: The magic wand question: If I was able to give you a magic wand—and money and time were of no consequence—and you could have anything you want in life, what would it be? Asking great questions can improve the richness of your conversations. You’re getting to know someone on a human level that even the people they’re closest to don’t ask them about.
The importance of starting with a vision Abby’s goal when she first started was to pay off their credit card debt and student debt. She had a vision. She positioned herself with the confidence that she could get there. She was going to share that vision with others and invite them to where they saw themselves in a similar vision. She believed she was going to get there and enrolled people to go with her.
“People have these incredible visions for themselves, they have these incredible goals, they do believe they’re possible—but then they’re unwilling to show up long enough and consistently enough to finally see it happen.” You work your butts off and don’t see a lot of results in the beginning. You have to commit to the long-term vision.
What would you do with an extra ten hours a week? $500 a month? You have to repaint the picture for them. Point out that you may not feel it’s possible now, but that you’ve seen people do exactly what you want to do. With hard work, commitment, trust, and consistency, it will be possible. You just have to put in the work to make it happen. You get to choose your hard.
Show them that you believe in them. That you’ll hold their belief for them until they can grasp it for themselves. When things get hard having belief and a vision for your future is so important. How has network marketing changed Abby’s life? Her family’s life? Listen to learn more!
How to create clarity around your vision When you say you’re going to do something—you need to do it. If you have a big vision and you know it’s your why, you can make it happen. You lay out what will take you from point A to point B. You have to put in the work. If you promise you’ll do something, and you don’t—are you truly a person of your word? It requires you to be a person of integrity. Most people struggle to follow through on their promises to themself but keep them for other people.
People break their promises because the promises they make to themselves are so out of alignment with their current behaviors. It takes small and steady steps toward a goal. You will hit a wall that will stop you every day. Things will come up that make you think you can’t do it. You will question everything. It’s in those moments in life that you get to decide if you'll rise to the occasion or resort to what’s comfortable. Those moments separate you from success. Don’t have a vision that you’ll never see come to pass.
Abby ends this episode with a challenge to listeners—in network marketing or not. Don’t miss it!

What is the power of the magician? How can it transform the world around you? David T. S. Wood was on a call last night and was talking about how powerful humans are. Humans are magicians. Whatever you want, you can have. Most people think it sounds ridiculous, but it's not. Listen to this episode of My Extra Mile to hear how David transforms the world around him—like a magician.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * How to experience the world of the magician * The transformational power of kindness * Overcoming the weight of anger
The weight of anger David points out that if you're angry, you have to think specific thoughts, move in a certain way, and focus on certain things. Anger is something you do—not something you are, and it includes movement, thought processes, and physiology. There must be a catalyst, and then you must assign it meaning. You can become triggered by something or someone, and then you behave angrily.
When you behave angrily, you are scowling, tense, and focused on something negative. What if your pilot is late for your flight? Or the plane needs maintenance? Or is it rescheduled because of the weather? People get so upset by that. Things change, it comes with the territory.
The transformational power of kindness When you're emitting angry energy, what happens? People are impatient, frustrated, short, impolite, and unapologetic. The person helping them is doing so under pressure. Because they have a job to do, they have to steel themselves.
David could walk up to that same person with warm and compassionate energy and say, "Hey, how are you doing?" and be genuinely kind. You can apologize for the person you were behind. He often asks people if they want a hug. While a stranger isn't likely to hug you, your demeanour leads to immediate response. The tension rolls off of them. The response is almost always a relief, openness, and a willingness to help.
You have the ultimate power. You get to decide how you respond in any given situation. You have the power to share kindness. The intention is always to be giving. If someone is having a bad day and they're angry, short, and frustrated—look at it as a personal challenge. The angrier the person is, the more compassionate David tries to be. You have the absolute power to manage the situation. This person may not be deserving of his kindness. But he can break through it.
You have the power to create a beautiful outer world. A world where people will bend over backwards to do kind things for you. How? By just being kind. By emitting different energy. If someone isn't more compassionate in response, at least you're in a calm and centered place.
David went to one of Cesar Milan's live shows, and he would bring out wild dogs that were uncontrollable. He would transform them within minutes. Cesar calls it calm-assertive energy. What if you started implementing calm assertive energy in your daily life?
How to experience the world of the magician If you want to experience the world of the magician and you want everything to work in your favour, you must understand that you have to give disproportionately. You give to people that don't deserve it. You elevate above situations.
Magical things will happen wherever you go. David emphasizes that if you want to taste the life of the wizard, you have to practice. Walk into a bar or restaurant and pretend to close up. Don't communicate, be short with people, and watch how people treat you. They mirror your energy.
But when you're open, kind, confident, caring, and loving, people tend to open up. You must love beyond the capacity of most people to receive. You give without expecting anything in return. The world will repay you tenfold. And that is how you embrace the power of the magician.

If you're feeling unfocused or overwhelmed with your schedule it can be hard to focus on time management strategies. In this enlightening episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood interviews serial-investor, multi-millionaire, and wonder-mom, Susan Sly. If you're interested in learning how to master your schedule, effectively structure your week, and find time for what matters most to you, this episode is a must-hear!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Learning how to master time management * Identifying your primary need and focusing on it * Actively structuring your day and week * A challenge to help you identify your goals * Taking time for yourself so you can be your best self * A day in the life of a successful businesswoman * Pushing yourself forward to become who you want to be * Learning how to set boundaries * Deciding to move forward towards your goals
How time management strategies can change your life You have the same amount of time in your day as the people you admire. All the obstacles you face may seem overwhelming, but there is always a way out.
First, identify what your primary needs are in life, and focus on achieving that one goal. Whether it's money, health, or family time, take the steps you need to accomplish crucial things in your situation. Then, actively structure your day and week to work for YOU by making a schedule that helps you meet your goals.
If you feel scattered, determine how much value your time is worth and then figure out where your time is currently going. For example, write down everything you do for a month to see where your time is going and where you can restructure your days to make the most of your time.
Using a schedule to get more of what you want Susan suggests always making your schedule the night before so you can know what to expect each day. Being strict with your schedule will help you reach your goals so you can actively make time for yourself, your family, and your business goals. She suggests taking 45 minutes daily to your income-producing activities and staying focused on what you're going TO, not what you're going to THROUGH at any given time.
A common mistake people make is resisting change and being too comfortable being uncomfortable. But, if you want to reach your goals, you have to become someone you've never been. Going backward in life should scare you enough to push you forward. Figure out what you need to say "no" to every day so that you can say "yes" to the things that matter.
Setting boundaries and taking care of yourself first What boundaries do you need to set to keep yourself focused on the things that matter most? For example:
What have you done in the last 24-hours that moved you towards your goals and dreams? If you're feeling unmotivated, start with:
Taking care of yourself first will allow you to be there for everyone and everything else. Make sure your actions align with what you want most. Ten years from now, what will your legacy be? What will you wish you spent more time doing? You have to CHOOSE to move forward towards your goals to create the type of future you want.

What is true intimacy? How do you get right with your “wobbly” self? What is your wobbly self? Relationship and intimacy expert Allana Pratt joins David in this episode of My Extra Mile for a conversation about intimacy in its truest form. She takes a deep dive into learning how to become “whole.” She shares how to have dyadic conversations with your significant other. Allana even walks through one of her signature meditations and talks about her new “dating” app. Don’t miss this episode!

How to have a dyadic conversation Allan shares that the idea of a dyad is to put aside 45 minutes to an hour once a week to create a safe space to just have a conversation where everything is sacred to talk about. You ask each other these questions
The other person can only say “thank you.” There is no judgment. The conversations can take you anywhere. Relationships aren’t about total agreement. They aren’t about control. They’re about being understood. Being an active listener is being willing to let your opinions change. These conversations and relationships allow the other to have a safe space to be who they are. It is love without conditions. Allana knows you’ll be amazed at the depth of intimacy that evolves.
The journey to being “The One” Growing up, Allana’s dad was always drunk and stoned. So, she spent her life looking for a man to save her. She was looking to find the “one” to complete her. After two failed marriages, she realized that the only commonality was herself. She was still seeking approval from the outside in to be okay with herself. She never gave herself the approval she had been seeking.
Allana emphasizes that when you go into a relationship from “empty” looking for someone else to complete you, your insecurities meet one another’s insecurities and it’s a train wreck waiting to happen. It doesn’t work. But what if two “wholes” came together? You complement one another, you don’t complete each other. You become greater than the sum of the parts.
It is your job to complete yourself. It is your job to heal the wounds of your past. It’s your job to make the very worst the very best. Whole mates stand beside one another. You give from the overflow to your partner. That overflow spills into humanity. You uplift others. The world needs more heart-mate couples. What does becoming “whole” mean? What does it look like? Listen to learn more.
Allana’s signature meditation: The “Little You” Are you seeking approval from other people? How do you stop looking for external validation? It starts on the inside. Allana points out that when we do inner integration work, it involves our thoughts, images, emotions, and body sensations. All four need to be fully integrated so your brain and nervous system transform. Have a dialogue with your “little you.” What do the “little you” need? What are you doing to feed his or her hunger for connection?
Instead of trying to “fix” yourself, have a dialogue with yourself. Your “little you” can say “You call me fat!” and you have to say “I hear you, thank you. What else?” You have to find rapport with yourself. Soon, that dissociated part of you will start to trust you. You will always have your back. You develop humility and dignity. That is attractive. It’s a powerful exercise.
Allana shares about her dating app as well as another practice you can do morning and night to become your most congruent self. Don’t miss this episode, where David and Allana talk about how to “Become the one, to find the one, to keep the one.”

Mahatma Gandhi. Nelson Mandela. Mother Teresa. Oprah Winfrey. What do they all have in common? What sets them apart? They were and are some of the most compassionate people in the world. Their legacies will endure throughout history. Why? Because they are freedom-fighters and philanthropists, driven by compassion. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood uses these famous examples to drive home the need to embrace a compassionate mindset every single day.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in… * Examples of people who left a legacy of compassion * How compassion must grow from within you * The ability of compassion to change someone’s life * David’s challenge to live more compassionately
Famous examples to learn from Gandhi was a lawyer who lived in South Africa and was heavily persecuted for the color of his skin (apartheid endured In South Africa until 1994). He went back to India and eventually led them to independence from British rule. Gandhi endorsed a peaceful process to right wrongs through compassion—not hatred. He lived with a level of compassion that mobilized an entire nation.
Nelson Mandela was a South African political leader, philanthropist, and anti-apartheid revolutionary. Mother Teresa was a Roman-Catholic nun who dedicated her life to caring for the poor. She became one of the most powerful people in the world and opened doors because of her compassion. Oprah Winfrey’s ability to connect and identify with humanity set her apart. She’s known around the world for her philanthropy. All of these great people in history wielded a sword of compassion.
Compassion must grow from within David emphasizes that compassion is something that has to start internally. You have to learn to be compassionate with yourself. Stop comparing yourself with other people. Dark energies of jealousy and self-loathing will start to creep in. Self-love diminishes. You must be compassionate with yourself to be compassionate with others.
David has learned to see people as people. All people—regardless of their economic background, their education, the color of their skin, or their beliefs—are people. Everyone’s hearts beat the same. This is a fragile life. We have physical and emotional fragility. We all carry wounds from the past. Compassion is a powerful force that connects humanity and allows you to connect on a deep and meaningful level.
Challenge your long-held stereotypes Walk up to someone. What goes through your head? Do you immediately judge their appearance? Does it evoke fear in you? You can find a man in a leather jacket and covered in tattoos completely intimidating. But he could be the father of three young kids and one of the kindest men you’ll ever meet. David challenges you to practice extreme compassion. Whoever it is that you walk up to, project a different thought pattern. Project interest and fascination instead of fear and judgment.
Compassion may change someone’s life David had a conversation with a friend’s daughter in which she used the blanket statement that “Hitch-hiking is dangerous.” David challenged her stereotype. He doesn’t see it as bad or necessarily unsafe and will gladly pick up hitchhikers on the side of the road and give them a ride and a meal.
Years ago, David was driving through rural Zimbabwe and he picked up a hitchhiker. A few months later, she came and lived with David and Pam in Canada. That hitch-hiking experience changed her life. Her family in Zimbabwe was deeply impacted when former President Robert Mugabe seized the farms of every white family living there. Meeting David led to a series of events which allowed her to provide for her family. If you live in fear and live by blanket statements and stereotypes, it pushes you away from compassion.
David’s challenge to you: Take 90 days and notice every time you move out of compassion. Take a moment, open your eyes, and have a beautiful conversation. Push fear aside and move into a richer and deeper connection. Watch what happens when you learn to lead with compassion.

Permit yourself time to dream about your wants and be specific about what would bring you the most joy in every area of your life.
Once you’ve identified these goals clearly, place your vision board somewhere you will see it daily to keep you focused and motivated. Once you’ve started to reach some of those goals, or if your goals change (which they should!) create a new board or update the one you have to keep it relevant.
Learning how to believe in yourself and your business Your journey and your upbringing influence your understanding of business and finances. What are your beliefs in money, and what is your knowledge of how to manage it? Do you believe that you have to work hard to earn money? Have you been told it’s the root of all evil?
These sabotaging thoughts can make you question your business decisions. Your upbringing has developed a default blueprint of your thoughts, feelings, and actions surrounding everything you do in your life. By identifying the unproductive parts of your blueprint, you can rewrite them to stay focused on the life you want.
How to manage your income from day one When you have a job and a network marketing side hustle it can be tempting to overspend and end up in the same financial situation you’ve been working to escape. Revisit why you took on your side-hustle in the first place and create a clear vision of where you want your money to go. Once you see that path, do the work to make sure that you reach your end goal!
The myth about residual income is that you do the work once and then keep earning, even while you sleep. But in reality, you have to keep working to maintain your ideal income. Your side hustle is a real profession and should be treated with the same amount of effort you invested at the start. You have to keep working, building, and learning to keep it producing.
Janey’s final thoughts are that when you’re digging yourself into a financial hole, figure out what led you there and then choose to stop the bad habits. Stopping habits is just as important as starting them, so by making this change you will be back on track towards your goals!

Servant leadership is all about focusing on others with no expectations of return. Leading with your heart isn't easy, but when you focus on lifting up others, you inevitably lift yourself in the process! In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood interviews servant leader, DelRae Messer, about identifying leadership styles and nurturing the vision in others.
If you want to identify your leadership style, learn how to build a reliable team, and nurture your path along the way, this episode is a must-hear!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Servant leadership and how to lead from your heart * Becoming a leader in every area of your life * Questions to ask to identify your leadership style * The evolution of leadership * Inspiring others and nurturing yourself * Letting go of comparing yourself to others * Focusing on why you're doing something * Practicing gratitude and appreciating where you are
Servant leadership & collaboration Leading with your heart and your desire to impact others is the definition of servant leadership. Being a leader isn't based on your authority or experience; it's based on leaving people better than you found them. By collaborating with other people, your leadership style will continuously evolve.
Have you ever considered that you have the opportunity to lead in every area of your life? In your home, family, finances, relationship, and even personal challenges, you can lead with positivity and tackle any problem with confidence. Becoming a better human will help you achieve your goals and help you build them surrounded by supportive people.
Questions to ask to become an impactful leader If you don't think you're a leader, ask yourself why? What is your reasoning for thinking you're not doing enough? Is your thought process focused on success, status, or achievement?
What is your definition of a leader? What character traits, core values, and respect do the leaders in your life have? When you learn how to define leadership accurately, you will start to write your own story about leadership.
Watching other people succeed and helping other people become leaders can empower you and help you feel better about yourself. Breathing belief into other people can, in turn, breathe more belief into yourself. Becoming an effective leader is about developing leaders.
Evolution always unfolds the same way. It will go up, down, and plateau, but you have to let go of the outcome and focus on the journey instead. Inspire action in other people but be sure always to nurture your path first.
How to develop your leadership style Get uncomfortable, speak out, and share your story! Work with your team and relationships to develop a collective vision, so everyone is working towards the same goal. Set a goal just for yourself and stay in your lane to show others the power of belief in yourself.
The fastest way to slow your growth is to compare yourself to others. Your path is unique, and the skills others have gained will never be the same as yours. Each person's journey is different, and success will vary, so be proud of what you've done and how far you've come.
What are you struggling with right now? What are your most significant pain points, and what has benefited you along the way? People won't care how much you know until they know how much you care. A focus on servant leadership isn't something you do with any expectation of return; it's about doing things for others with no expectations. Focus on practicing gratitude for the little things while working towards the big.

Do you tell yourself, “That will never happen to me” or “There’s a one-in-a-million chance of that?” Many people walk through life as if negative things won’t happen. But the truth is, things always occur to place you in danger—and it’s more likely to happen than not. David’s advice? Stop avoiding reality and plan for it. How do you do that? He shares his thoughts in this episode of My Extra Mile.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Understanding your brain’s survival mode * How to mentally navigate challenges to prepare for them * Negative things will happen—how will you react?
Humans are programmed for survival One would think that the human brain is programmed for success, happiness, courageousness, fearlessness, etc. But it’s not. The brain is programmed for survival. The brain is designed to keep us playing small. It’s about not dying—emotionally or physically. Part of the survival response is fear.
David points out that fear is usually a learned behavior. David is a scuba diver and has been in situations where a fellow diver needed rescuing. But it never stopped him from diving. He just played through scenarios that could go wrong and practice how to survive them. David has been in dangerous situations while sailing, which is why he practices man overboard drills with friends. It takes practice.
David is also a pilot, and he practices what to do if and when things go wrong while he’s flying. Not because it’s necessary at the time, but because things will occur, and you want to respond automatically. Sully landed a plane successfully on the Hudson river because he had trained for years to be prepared for scenarios just like that.
How to mentally navigate challenges to prepare for them David pre-thinks a lot of things that could happen. If something happens, he wants to respond in a split second. If a car accident was to happen, he plays through what he would do. If you start to slide off the road, most people’s immediate reaction is to jerk the steering wheel in the opposite direction—which is the wrong move. If it were to happen right now, what is the safest response? What do you do?
David points out that the smartest move is to actually steer into the ditch and hope a tree will stop you or snow will slow you. What about if an animal runs into the road? Unfortunately, your best route is to hit the animal. If you veer away, you could further endanger your life and the life of others.
David was in a severe motorcycle accident many years ago. He always said he’d never ride without a helmet, gloves, leather jacket, etc. But one day he was late to work and hopped on his bike in a t-shirt and shorts. A woman pulled out in front of him. Instead of braking and sliding, he had to drive into her car. The car was a write-off. His bike was a write-off. He was severely injured—but still alive. All because he had played through the scenario in his mind and knew the right choice to make.
Negative things will happen—how will you react? David implores you: don’t avoid living your life just because of the possibility of something negative happening. You can’t walk through life with the philosophy that everything is going to go right. It’s not a negative thought if you plan how to navigate something that has a high chance of occurring. It’s not a question of attracting negativity, it’s a question of training the mind. How are you preparing yourself to navigate normal everyday occurrences?
David knows people that go years in disbelief that something happened to them. How do you prepare yourself mentally? How do you navigate a negative situation with elegance, ease, and speed? Practice. The more you practice these things, the quicker you can rebound from them. It gives you the confidence to know that you can handle anything.
David is a realist. He knows he needs to mentally prepare for the worst eventualities to hone his skills. What are you mentally prepared for? What aren’t you ready for? How can you prepare for it? How will you adapt after? Listen to the episode for the whole discussion and practical ways to prepare for reality.

The power of belief is an incredible tool to help you reach your goals, both personally and professionally. But do you know what areas you are strong in and which areas may need a little help? In this empowering video conversation, David T. S. Wood and his guest, Cathy Savage, share their insight into how different belief strategies can impact every area of your life.
Belief isn't something you can turn on and off. It's something that everyone has access to but not everyone utilizes. If you want to get plugged in and change your life and business for the better, this episode is a must-hear! You will gain powerful insight and learn some exercises you can practice finding your starting point on your journey to fully invested belief.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * The six areas of belief and how they can help you grow * Figuring out your limiting beliefs and how to change them * A BONUS exercise, challenging you to rate yourself and jumpstart your growth * The four most powerful words in the English language * Getting back in touch with your inner belief * Developing daily rituals to set you up for success
The six areas of belief In network marketing, your belief plays a significant role in energizing new clients and getting them interested in trying the product or joining your team. However, if you don't believe in what you are saying, it will be hard to get THEM to believe. It doesn't matter how good of an actor you are if you aren't honest and sincere about what you are sharing, your clients will eventually figure you out.
What areas should you continuously check?
Rate yourself on a scale of 1–10 in each of these six areas. What areas could you use a little help in, and which areas are you doing well? Talk with your mentors, do your research, and work towards getting a perfect score for each area.
Identifying your limiting beliefs to jumpstart personal growth The first step towards inner growth is identifying the areas where you're struggling. Cathy loves to have her new clients or team members create their story, usually a few sentences, of WHY they think they can't do something. She then has them repeat their statements until they (and she) get sick of hearing those reasons. Once they get to that point, she challenges them to change their story!
What might be holding YOU back?
Take a few minutes to rate yourself in the following areas from 1–10 and write a single sentence representing why you got that score for each area:
Now, how can you rewrite your story for a more positive outcome? Talk about your struggles with your team or mentor, investigate new resources, and become a believer in yourself. In doing so, you will be able to inspire others to do the same!
The four most important words in the English language are, "I believe in you." This phrase is something you should share with others, but you should be able to say it to yourself first!
Utilizing the power of belief in your daily rituals Rituals are a powerful way to develop new routines that can help you reach your goals. Before your feet hit the ground in the morning, Cathy suggests saying an affirmation. Hers is, "Every day I'm going to get a little bit better." Your affirmation should change as you progress through your goals.
Some other impactful rituals that you can practice are:
Once you start putting some rituals in place, take time to practice them daily and invest wholeheartedly in your journey towards fully believing in yourself.

Susan Sly is no stranger to hard work and has had to fight for everything in her life, overcoming challenges as they presented themselves. In this video conversation with David T. S. Wood, Susan shares how she dealt with a difficult health diagnosis, the dissolution of her marriage, difficult career decisions, and more. In this conversation she gets real about her bumps along the way and shares her insight on how to approach new opportunities.
Whatever you’re facing with your business, your career, your home life, or your health, Susan’s inspirational story can help you look at things from a new angle. There are countless opportunities out there for those willing to do the work to reach their goals, so don’t give up hope and keep moving forward!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * How to choose to stop giving meaning to your pain * Learning how to go from struggling to success * How you can forge greatness from your times in the valley * Who are you, beyond your job, title, or relationship? * Where is the world headed, and which industries will lead? * What a side-hustle is and how you can build a side hustle mindset * How can you start to generate residual income? * Learning how to rethink your current course and keep moving ahead in life
If you had to choose only one word, what one word represents you? In the most painful season of Susan’s life, everything came crashing down all at once. She received a concerning health diagnosis, the end of her marriage, losing her business, and ending up homeless as a single mother on her brother-in-law’s couch. This massive shift in her life made her face things with a new perspective. She took a long bike ride one day and did some serious soul searching to try to figure out where she should go next and, on that ride, one word came to her – teacher. With this new direction, she shifted her business vision and now pursues a lifestyle and career that foster this passion within her.
Susan says that the key to overcoming challenges is, “pick yourself up, get humble, let it go, figure out your strengths, figure out who you are, and just move forward.” It won’t be easy, but greatness is achieved by those who work hard to achieve their goals.
When you’re in a rough patch, that is the time to embrace the opportunity to go a new direction. Accelerate your efforts when the right opportunity arises and go that extra mile to find YOUR success. No one gets ahead with a pity party, so you have to keep moving forward to get ahead.
Overcoming challenges during any economic climate If you’ve recently lost your job or business, how can you narrow down your options to figure out where to go next? Susan, being in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) industry, has a broad view of where the world is going, and mentions that jobs like social media influencers, driving services, delivery services, and most labor roles are being phased out. Each time a massive global shift happens, like the COVID pandemic, industries change to meet the new needs of the people. In order to take advantage of these openings, you have to try to be one step ahead.
Most of the changes that were supposed to take effect within a decade have accelerated to meet the needs of home-based people needing to make an income.
To find the right side-hustle, Susan recommends:
How to choose the right side-hustle opportunity At any given time, countless new companies are popping up to try and make quick grabs for investors and employees, but then they quickly turn around and sell. While this may be nice for the investors, if you’re trying to get started with a side-hustle, this can complicate things for you. Before you commit to a company, Susan recommends looking out for the following:
Ask yourself this question, “If not this, then what?” There will always be another pandemic, economic shift, or technological advancement. Don’t wait for things to be urgent before you act. Everything you thought was going to work yesterday may not today… so keep moving forward!

We don’t see the world as it is, we see the world as we are. For those of you that are struggling in certain areas: Are you angry? Are you in constant conflict? Do you feel like things are happening to you? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood shares how to attract what you want in life—not crap.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * How to create the right projection * Cultivating awareness of your projections * How to get to the root of kindness
Airports amplify tension Airports are a place where you often see people at their worst. What happens if your flight is delayed or cancelled and you need to get a room for the night? You’re likely upset, right? The person you’re about to deal with has nothing to do with the plane being grounded. Yet people are rude, angry, and short with these people as if their life is the only one that matters.
How do you think the person is going to behave when you’re angry and short with them? They won’t go out of their way to make magic happen for you. They won’t be motivated to fix the problem or go the extra mile. You have to remember that you’re projecting intolerance and frustration at a person.
If you are conscious, aware, present, and kind in all situations, the universe bends over backwards to make magic happen. It may not look like what you want. It may not meet your immediate expectations. It will only happen if you’re aware and flowing with what’s happening.
What you project out is what you get back Most people project their history, past, and hurts onto other people. If you’re distrusting, it’s because you were hurt in the past. You carry that burden into relationships. You’re projecting your fear unto the person. They will behave in accordance with how you treat them. If you’ve been hurt in a previous relationship, how often do you project that into a current relationship? How often do you guard yourself?
David likes to say, “We don’t see the world as it is, we see the world as we are—and then the world treats you accordingly.” If you go through life distrusting others, you will be given many opportunities to see distrust. The Reticular Activating System makes you aware of the things you think about. So if you think people are distrusting, you are looking for things in your environment to prove you are right. You project fear, you notice fear, and you attract fear.
What is the root of kindness? The root of kindness is the language you use to talk about yourself. If you notice fears, limitations, or projections that are negative—you can fix it. When you’re in a situation where you normally project anger or frustration, change what you do. Become curious, generous, or kind. The people around you will behave in accordance with what you’re doing. David emphasizes that you live a life of your own making. You’ve got the ultimate power to say “I create the world I’m in.”
Are you being kind to yourself? How do you create the world you want on the inside to project out kindness, love, and generosity? Kindness on the inside creates a magical world on the outside. Even if crap happens, you don’t interpret it that way. Planes get grounded or break down. It’s part of life. When it happens, be understanding.
Some people scream and yell at store clerks. What is that person’s life like? If they’re putting crap out, they’re probably getting the same back. People won’t want to be around them. They walk through the world with a chip on their shoulder. That chip is projecting their fears, doubts, uncertainty, anger, frustration, jealousy—and bringing it back tenfold.
Look for the magic in everything Davis has always realized how beautiful it can be when things go wrong. David met his girlfriend because his first flight was delayed and then he missed his connecting flight. They met in Germany on the bus to go get new tickets for the flight they missed. They were the only two people who weren’t angry. They’ve now been dating for 4.5 years.
Because they were so kind, they ended up with the best rooms at the best hotel closest to the airport. How? He asked if the desk clerk needed a hug, said he was understanding of the situation, and he was kind to her. She thanked him for being kind when others were harsh.
You aren’t necessarily projecting kindness and expecting it in return—it’s just what happens. David’s challenge to you? Work on what you project into the world and remember that your inner world creates your outer world.

It doesn't matter what type of partnership you're in; you should ask relationship questions regularly to keep your lines of communication open and healthy. From business partnerships to personal connections, there will always be obstacles that you will need to conquer together. There is a reason you chose your person as a partner, but do you ever take the time to remember what that reason is?
In this video conversation, Beth Hanishewski, the swiss-army knife of coaching, and David T. S. Wood share some powerful questions you should ask yourself and your partner. Beth and David are both experts in the field of relationship repair, and they aren't afraid to get real about the root of the issue. If you're ready to move your relationships to the next level and transform your partnerships for the better, this episode is a must-see!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Transforming your relationship * Figuring out where your relationship is on a scale of 10–0 * Understanding what the rating you assigned to your relationship means * Taking action today to work on getting your partnership to a 10 * Remembering WHY you chose that person as a partner * Two powerful questions you can ask to generate meaningful, open communication
There isn't just one issue, but several that you’re concerned about.
But if you rated your relationship a 3–2–1–0...
This area is the most dangerous.
You may have completely given up on your relationship already.
You may not even care to put in the work to fix your situation.
What can you do to start building your score? Both Beth and David agree that it's best to work on getting your relationship to a 10 before making any drastic decisions on your partnership. While you can start to do the work on your own, it's best to include your partner by inviting them to be part of your process. Calmly and respectfully open the conversation to see if there is something you can both agree to do for 30-days. If they don't agree, commit to making the change yourself. Chances are, your partner will see a drastic change in you, which could allow you to approach the subject again in the future.
Remind yourself why you love that person, and why you chose them in the first place rather than focusing on the issue. Try to notice the little things you appreciate about them, instead of the things they do that bother you.

How do you respond in the midst of negative circumstances? Do you allow yourself to give in to emotions of anger, rage, or frustration? Or do you accept whatever happened and move forward? How do you respond when things don’t go the way you planned, and you get pushed off track? In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood shares some stories about the power of adaptability. Changing your outlook on your circumstances can change the trajectory of your life.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * How David almost lost his home to a fire * Learn to adapt with the little things to adapt to the big * How David’s son’s car accident changed his life * How to adapt in the most difficult of circumstances
David’s superpower in practice Years ago, David was at a concert when a storm rolled in. Lightning was striking left and right and people were running for cover. David and Asta wandered into a local bar instead. A friend called him and said, “Dave, your house is on fire!”
David is standing in a bar having just learned that his house is presumably on fire. But he realized there was nothing he could do. So, he called the bartender over and asked for two shots of tequila. So, they sat and sipped their tequila before driving home.
When they drove back to his house, they spent 4-5 hours fighting the fire side by side with his neighbors and the fire brigade. At 3 am, when things had died down, he served everyone drinks in his garden by the pool.
His reaction was his superpower: he adapted. He had to make some choices: If the house isn’t there, what am I going to do? How am I going to feel? Am I so attached that my life will change or end if it’s gone?
If the house had completely burned down, he would’ve started a new chapter. He could rebuild or take the money and move somewhere else—it didn’t matter. If it was gone, it was gone. David knew he could handle it.
Can you look back on the worst thing that’s ever happened to you and realize it was actually the best thing that ever happened?
The world is constantly adapting—and so must you The world has changed. But the world is always changing. It is completely transformed. Adapting to the world that is, is not about holding on to what was. It comes down to your ability to adapt to what is really happening versus what you wish is happening. You have to accept the reality of what is.
Adaptability has to be practiced with the small things. In the moment where you’re wishing something is different, you are living in regret, anger, and emotions that don’t serve you. But what if you can develop supreme adaptability? What if you live in a world where you can accept everything that’s happening as it’s happening? Where you can shrug something off and say, “If it happens, it happens.”
Negative events can change everything for the better David’s son was in a horrible accident where he veered off a road and eventually smashed his car into a large tree. The tree was on the edge of a steep cliff. His son was in shock. His beloved car was wrapped around a tree. The accident was the accident. The response to the accident—and the story they created—is what they could control. The car was a complete write-off, but he had to move on. If he had the car, he may have stayed in their small town. But he ended up moving to Vancouver and eventually Montreal. This one awful moment in time changed the course of his entire life.
Cultivate the superpower: learn to adapt David shares a call-to-action: Cultivate the ability to accept things as they happen. You can mourn, you can be upset, but you can choose when it ends and when you move on. Accept what is happening, choose your mourning period, adapt quickly, then move on. You’ll see a whole other world open up in front of you.
The people that can’t adapt get stuck. They live there for years. They carry it around like a great big weight on their back. You have the power to choose how long you’ll be stuck in that moment and how quickly you’ll move out of it. You can’t go back in time and wish it was different. What’s done is done. But you can handle and endure anything if you learn to adapt.

“When I take 100% responsibility for everything in my life and everything not in my life, there’s no one left to blame.” — David T.S. Wood
One of the reasons David shies away from social media is that influencers tell people how to live. They push quotes and personal development. David believes the best way to bring a quote to life is to share a story—not push it down people’s throats. In this solo episode of My Extra Mile, David tells some stories to share how he’s implemented this quote in his life with radical results. Don’t miss it!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Taking 100% responsibility for everything in your life * How to learn to be unattached to being right * Why you need to stop playing the blame game * The importance of celebrating your wins * A couple of simple exercises to embrace
Why take 100% responsibility for everything in your life? It’s an empowering quote—but only if you live it. When you take 100% responsibility for everything—the empty bank account, maxed out credit cards, or being overweight—you don’t live in the world as a victim.
Once you take responsibility for the good, the bad, and the ugly, then you have the power to do something about those situations. It’s easy to blame external circumstances. But there are plenty of people who are living through the same hardships you are who model the right way to do things. There are thousands of people who live a fit and healthy life with the body you want.
David had an urgent phone call with a successful, wealthy individual. Something happened that David never does—he overslept the call. David always strives to be an honest person. But because he missed the call, he felt himself searching for an excuse, a little white lie or justification to ease his embarrassment. But in the end, he said “You’ll never guess what—I overslept.” They laughed about it and moved on. He took responsibility.
You have to be unattached to being right David points out that if you want to be right, you’ll live in a world of resistance or struggle. When David first started backpacking, he spent some time in Egypt. While there, he studied the pharaohs who believed that there were multiple answers to every question. David lives his life in the realization that there’s not one clear-cut answer. Everyone has a different perspective. Someone else doesn’t have to be wrong for you to be right.
The importance of celebrating your wins When David looks at his home, his lifestyle, and his ability to do things—he takes responsibility for those things, too. He navigated his life to be successful and he’s very blessed, grateful, and fortunate. He can say “I created this.” You can remain humble and still celebrate your wins.
David suggests doing an exercise: write down the things you’ve accomplished that you can celebrate in your life. Then take the time to truly celebrate your wins. When you take responsibility for your wins, you build momentum towards the next step you take.
David emphasizes that as you take responsibility for the good, it feeds your soul and allows you to move forward with more energy, passion, and confidence. When you are confident you are magnetic and attract more of what you want. Responsibility makes you invincible because everything starts and ends with you.
David shares more personal stories to emphasize his point + another exercise you can use to change your life. Don’t miss this short but powerful episode!

Have you ever sat down to identify all the different recurring expenses on your account and identified items you should eliminate? Commit to working with that company for at least five years to give yourself enough time to learn the business. Pay yourself first and, most importantly, don't spend all of your money each time you earn!
BONUS: A game to help you focus on your ideal life Financial independence is being able to choose how you spend your time and money on your terms. But, financial freedom is having enough money to meet your needs and wants while still having enough to donate and share.

One of the greatest benefits of the Network Marketing opportunity is how it can facilitate and empower lifestyle design. If that's a term you're not familiar with, you're in for a treat. This video conversation features successful businesswoman and lifestyle design coach, Lisa DeMayo. Her story is one of difficulty and hardship turned to joy, and she shares some of the pivotal moments in her story during this conversation with David T.S. Wood.
Take a deep breath. Stop to open your heart and mind intentionally. If you come to this conversation in that posture, you'll be inspired, challenged, and equipped to begin taking steps that help you design the life you want.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * What it means to engage in lifestyle design * Developing personal adaptability * Learning to use hardship to your advantage * How to design your life as you want in every circumstance * Making truthful statements that empower your life * Lisa's first steps to designing her life and changing what she didn't want * How to choose joy and deal with sadness and loss * Finding a way to take extreme responsibility for your life * Releasing the burden of shame and guilt * Hearing Lisa's challenge to you for moving your life forward
People who choose to view hard things as opportunities will flourish As Lisa says during this conversation, "None of us gets out of life alive." We know how the story ends, so if we are wise, we'll take the time to figure out how to make the most of the time we have. Both Lisa and David have learned—through both joyous and extremely painful circumstances—that everything that comes into our lives is an opportunity to grow and ultimately flourish.
Lisa specifically points out that the hard times, though we typically want to avoid them or escape them as soon as possible, are some of the best opportunities for designing the life we want. They open a doorway to self-discovery, growth, and resilience like nothing else.
Learn to design your life in the midst of every circumstance When we talk about lifestyle design, we're addressing the inner compulsion we have to live the kind of life we want to live. We want to have a sense of control, a sense of direction for our own lives. The good news is that while we can't control the circumstances that come into our lives, we can control how we respond to them.
Did you get that? Our RESPONSE to our lives' events has the most significant impact on the overall direction of our lives. What is the best response?
Lisa says a "can do" attitude that sees the difficulty as an opportunity is vital. Use the circumstances presented to you as tools to provide further insight into your thinking, feeling, and default responses, and make intentional positive changes to what you find. Little by little, you can chip away at old habits of thinking and feeling that have been unproductive and unhelpful. Keep listening… Lisa provides a challenging exercise you can implement immediately.
Lisa's challenge: Take the first steps to free yourself from your limitations Most of us know it, but don't care to admit that we have emotional baggage, limiting beliefs, and bad habits that keep us stuck, generate consistent patterns of inner frustration and push us to the brink. Lisa's recommended exercise (shared near the end of the conversation) aims to help you take the first steps out of that place.
STEP ONE: Take out a notebook or journal and begin brain-dumping all of your "emotional stuckness." Please don't stop, keep writing, get it all out. It may take as much as a few hours but will be well worth the investment. As you do this, express every pain, every regret, every resentment, every lack of forgiveness, every bitterness that you feel. You need to get them out of your system and onto paper so you can see them and admit that they exist.
And don't worry… you will burn this list or shred it to tiny bits once you're done. Nobody else ever has to see it.
STEP TWO: After you've admitted what's on the page (and have destroyed it as a symbol of leaving it all behind you), compose a letter to your younger self. Give yourself advice, based on what you've discovered in the previous exercise, about how to live a better life, how to deal with hurts and pains more effectively, and how to embrace attitudes that empower your life rather than inhibit it.
Lisa explains the exercise in detail, so be sure you take the time to invest in your lifestyle design by watching the video of this great conversation!

You NEED to declutter your life to declutter your mind. If you are overwhelmed with clutter, you’re allowing it to create negative energy in your life. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T.S. Wood talks about the theory of broken windows and shares a simple 5-minute exercise to help you declutter your home, your relationships, and your mind. It will help you gain clarity and set positive intentions for your future. Don’t miss it!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Changing the results, you see in your life * Nailing down the broken window you must overcome * David’s garage renovation and re-organization * How to master your master closet * Conflict resolution: Clean up your conversations * The 5 minute-exercise to declutter your life * Leave a legacy that is simple + straightforward
The theory of broken windows A social experiment was done by a scientist where he parked two different cars, opened the hood, and left them sitting for one week. One car was placed in a high-crime neighborhood in the Bronx and the other in a California neighborhood. Within one week, the car in the high-crime area was completely gutted. But the car in California sat for an entire week completely untouched.
So, the scientist broke the windshield. Within 24 hours that car, too, was completely gutted. The reigning theory is that a broken car window is the temptation needed to attract thieves. Similarly, graffiti on a building attracts more graffiti. If you allow something negative to remain untouched and unfixed, it attracts more negativity.
What is your broken window? What things in your life are attracting negative energy? What things, places, or people aren't serving you? David notes that holding on to negative energy is like drinking poison—but expecting the other person to die. Fixing your broken window can free up space in your lives to attract beauty, adventure, and opportunities.
The different areas you can declutter your mind + life What areas can you begin the process to declutter? David shares some examples from personal experience:
David’s 5-minute challenge to declutter your life David’s challenge is simple, but the results speak for themselves:
Set a timer for 5 minutes and address ONE thing in your home that needs to be cleaned, organized, fixed, etc. Junk drawer? Unorganized closet? Messy pantry? Loose toilet seat? Choose one area, set your timer, and spend 5-minutes cleaning it up.
Why is this so important? A cluttered and disorganized life full of unfinished projects attracts negativity. It clutters your mind and removes your focus. If you constantly feel overwhelmed and can’t seem to finish anything you set your mind to, start small. Declutter your surroundings and you’ll be amazed by how things change.
If you notice something, address it immediately and clean up that energy. It frees up space to allow you to recommit to something and complete goals that have been lost in the clutter of your mind. David knows from experience that the results are freeing and worth the effort. Listen to the whole episode for the full discussion.

Achieving network marketing success isn't easy. Top earners in this industry have done so through countless hours studying, thousands of calls, and lots of hard work. In this second-deep dive into practical business strategies, David T. S. Wood and his guest Emily Vavra, share their secrets to success and everything they've discovered along the way.
Anyone can be a successful network marketer. Take the time to build your contact list, talk to people regularly, and share your vision. There is no better time to build on your skills or start assembling your team than NOW. Read on for these advanced tips to help you reach your goals and see the drastic difference they can make in your life and business.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Learning how to help someone get started in network marketing * Using events to increase retention and build unity within your team * Stopping the fear of your current situation so it doesn't hold you back * Figuring out how to change your circumstances so you can focus on your vision * Speaking your goals into existence * Learning how to use social media to grow your business
Step six: Getting a new person started When it comes to determining how to start your working relationship with a new person, you should begin by asking questions to figure out what goals you can help them achieve. Once you've gotten to know their motivations and needs, you can figure out where they will fit in your business, either as a customer or as a part of your team. By introducing a checklist early on, you can have a clear and thorough understanding of what they are hoping to gain by using the products or joining your business.
A handy checklist to use with new people who have shown interest is:
Each time you touch base with that new person, recommend resources that they can review that may help them overcome their apprehensions. Also, keep the door open to everything else you have to offer while supporting them where THEY want to be.
Step seven: Encouraging event attendance Events in network marketing are EVERYTHING! They ignite excitement in each person who attends and gives them valuable tools to progress them through the business. It opens up more opportunities for finding inspiration and relatable success stories that can help them overcome obstacles. Whether it's a major, companywide event or a personal get together with your team, be consistent with YOUR participation and encouragement. If you do your part to get people to attend and you offer options consistently, they will most likely start to show up for you over time.
Don't let your current situation hold you back from growing your business. Everyone starts somewhere so find ways to move past those fears and focus on your vision and where you WANT to be. With the right mentality and work ethic your situation is going to change, so focus on that instead!
Step eight: How to promote a vision of network marketing success Do you have a clear vision of where you want to go with your company? Ask yourself these questions to find and cast your perfect vision:
Learning how to shift your vision and unite your goals is a crucial step to keep you moving forward when things get tough. Success doesn't come easily or quickly but having a clear vision will give you direction and focus. Additionally, as you achieve your goals your vision will become your testimony.
Take a few minutes, right now, to rate yourself on a scale from 1-10 in the following areas:
Rate yourself honestly and as you cast your vision, work to get yourself to a 10 in every area. Focus on any areas with a low score to make sure you completely understand them. Once it's clear to other people that YOU believe in these areas, then THEY will start to believe too!
Step nine: How to utilize social media effectively Social media is a free tool so if you aren't using it, start now! Emily cautions you not to spam your current friends and connections with your network marketing pitches or promotional posts. What you SHOULD do is showcase who you are and what you represent. The people you meet along the way will want to be able to look you up and see if your values align with theirs. Pick 3-5 things that you are passionate about and focus on posting about those things regularly.
Emily's top ten tips for effective social media usage are:
Utilize the tools around you and figure out what would work best for your situation. There is plenty of business out there, so put in the work to get it!

Emily Vavra’s key to unlocking network marketing success is focusing on helping people rather than making a sale. She walks through her life, looking for the next great connection to see how she can help THEM achieve greatness. Learning how to love people and taking the time to understand their motivations and struggles can help you determine when to take action and when to be a friend.
People don’t want to enter into a conversation if they think you’re only interested in getting them to buy something. Many new network marketers quickly burn themselves out because they focus on selling the products, meeting their financial goals, and rattling off data and statistics to an already apprehensive audience. In this video conversation, Emily and her host, David T. S. Wood, discuss fundamental skills you can start practicing immediately to revive or jumpstart your business! Plus, Emily shares an excellent business starting exercise you can do from anywhere!
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Helping people grow and succeed in life and business * Finding new people to add to your list of contacts * Discovering how to invite people, so they want to say, “Yes!” * Presenting information about your business in an exciting and successful way * Learning when and how many times to follow-up * Knowing when to act to close a sale
Skill one: Finding people to add to your contact list How many people are on your contact list? Do you HAVE a contact list? One of the first challenges Emily got from her mentor was to sit down for two-minutes and make a list of everyone that she could contact to share her business. She suggests starting with the first five people you would be most comfortable talking to about the company so you can gain experience.
Be conscious of the people you interact with everyday who could be a great addition to your team, or who could benefit from what your business has to offer. However, these are people that you will spend a lot of time with so be conscious of that fact when you invite them to your team.
Exercise: Take two minutes to start your list now! Write down anyone you know who you think could benefit from your services or products. Keep your list updated, so you always have new people to contact.
Skill two: Inviting people to listen and learn There are two great ways to invite people to consider your business:
The Direct Ask: You can make it clear that you know you’re being direct by saying, “I know this is forward, but…,” or “Have you considered…?” It’s essential to state WHY you want to ask them so urgently.
The Gentle Ask: The “If I… would you…” statement allows you to share information to get their opinion. “I thought of you because…” statements focus on the specific reasons they stood out to you.
When you’re inviting, embrace the “no.” Most people won’t be interested until they’re ready, so don’t let the fear of “no” stop you from inviting them again when the time is right.
Skill three: Presenting information When you present information about different products and services work to make the information personal and unique. Ask them questions to learn what they may want or need but give them plenty of time to talk and open up on their terms. Use the products available, so you have a testimony to share when the time comes.
To do:
Skill four: Follow-up calls Find creative ways to stay in touch with the person so they don’t forget about you, but don’t mention your business every time. If you aren’t pushy and you maintain a friendship, you may be surprised when a “No,” turns into a “Not now,” and eventually a, “Yes!”
Your information won’t be important to people UNTIL it’s important to them! Don’t take it personally; stay positive and supportive of that person indefinitely.
Skill five: Closing a sale for Network Marketing Success People want you to help them better their lives, but they all come to the table with different goals and apprehensions. Make sure they have enough information to make a decision, reassure them of a money-back guarantee, and offer them the BEST option available. If you ASK for the sale, you might get it!
Practice makes perfect. Rehearse your pitch anytime you have the chance and get comfortable with “No.” Find a language that is comfortable for you and be true to your authentic self. Your story is unique to you so don’t be afraid to create YOUR path to success!

Everyone’s heard the phrase “The New Normal” being tossed around recently. David T.S. Wood really dislikes the phrase. Why? The new normal is like saying that something shifted in the world and we’ve been handed only one option. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David explores the negative connotations of this phrase and shares his preferred definition. Don’t miss his inspiring take on the new normal.
You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... * Redefining the whole idea of “The new normal” * Taking this opportunity to redesign your life * Changing the lens, you view the world with * Making your “normal” the opposite of normal
Give the new normal a NEW definition Returning to normal means going back to a status quo. David believes that one of the most dangerous things in humanity is complacency, apathy, and being in your “comfort zone.” It’s boring, predictable, and same-old-same-old. So, what if we have to adjust to a new way of behaving?
How does David process what’s going on? He never wants to be normal. He does well because he’s abnormal. He doesn’t play in the lines, he breaks the rules, he doesn’t do what everyone else is doing. The challenge with being different is that you will piss people off, you will stand out, and you will be a target.
Take this opportunity to redesign your life If your life was normal before, look at this situation as an opportunity to redesign your life in a more beautiful way. If you’ve lost your job and a few months of no income has put you in a scary financial situation, maybe it IS time for a new normal. Is that the way you want to live? How do you better prepare yourself for situations like this? Who do you have to become to earn more money?
When David started working, he had a job as a dishwasher at $4 an hour. But he wasn’t a normal dishwasher—he was exceptional. He was positive. He did his job well. He built relationships. He got a shot as a waiter which eventually led to him down the road to owning a restaurant. David projected an attractive energy and doors opened for him.
Change the lens you view the world with This pandemic is simply something we’re all dealing with. World war II was horrendous. Millions of people died. David looks at that scenario and says, “Look at our life today.” There’s a pandemic, but he points out that we can’t say it’s the worst thing humanity has ever had to survive. People are still thriving.
David emphasizes that “It does come down to the thoughts we’re willing to think and the lens that we’re willing to look through.” David understands that in this time millions of people are thriving, millions are stuck, and millions are playing into a victim mentality.
But it’s not just happening to you. It’s happening to the whole world. What can we learn? How do we thrive? How do we create a positive and beautiful lens? We have two choices: We can hate it or we can love the situation that we’re in. David points out that this situation allows us to experience things differently.
David’s “normal” is the opposite of normal David encourages you to sit down and define what your normal is. Do you see low-energy words? Do they put you in a box? Does your definition put you in a victim mentality? Do your words shrink you down? Do they have negative connotations? Erase those words from your list of normal.
David emphasizes that the words you speak determine how you live your life. The words you speak determine who you are. The words you speak attract positivity or negativity. Look at your language around your new normal and make it positive. Say it with certainty and positivity. You are NOT a victim of a pandemic.
David has always seen himself as the master of his own fate. He can control what he does, what he thinks, and what he speaks into existence. How he lives and responds to what’s happening comes down to those key elements. If you were in a bad place before, this is the best time to change.
Eradicate the word normal from your vocabulary—or at the very least redefine it. Make it vibrant. Make it full of possibilities. Take responsibility for your actions and your choices and choose to respond differently.
