For Christians struggling with motivation:
Stay focused on Jesus.
One way to keep our time in Scripture devotional and personal is to persistently look for Jesus. The Bible gives us a full, complex, diverse profile of the most important, most satisfying individual to ever walk this earth. Stay focused on Jesus, and you’ll find it hard not to be moved to be motivated to seek Him
Stay dependent on God.
Prayer is our participation in the fellowship God has accomplished in Christ. Think about that. When we bow our heads in faith, we’re joining the greatest story ever told, living out God’s love for broken sinners in sending his Son to die for us. The prayer closet is the closest we can come to God in this world. When we avoid prayer, our precious doctrines will inevitably produce pride in us. Ask God to make as much of himself in your heart as he does in your mind.
Stay amazed at grace.
Be amazed at what we learn about God and never at how much we know. Be amazed by God, especially by his grace.
Grace: despite our rebellion, covering our past, flooding our present, and increasing forever into the future. May God never let you cool to his grace
Be absolutely amazed that we even know this God and that he loves us as surely and sacrificially as he does.
In a culture of highlight reels and instagram aesthetics its easy for our walk with god to turn into one big performance for everyone else instead of an honest seeking of Jesus for ourselves...but in this podcast we’re going to read through the bible together and also get real and talk about the joys and struggles of being a Christian in this day and age...because well…why not

In today’s episode we jumped right into Luke Chapter 1
The Gospel of Luke is a fascinating account of Jesus and those who witnessed his life.
Luke is the author of this Gospel as well as the book of Acts. With these two books he actually wrote one fourth of the New Testament! Luke was the only Gentile New Testament writer and was a man of broad sympathies. He noticed and wrote about groups usually neglected by the cultures of his day: women, children, the sick, the poor, outcasts and foreigners. He points to Jesus’ great interest in all kinds of people. Luke was also an educated man, a doctor and a historian. And, like the scientist described above, he was very careful with his facts, describing incidents with historical accuracy and using a rich vocabulary. His reporting is orderly and accurate.
Luke does not present the facts about Jesus as a statistical report but as a story. He tells in an interesting, accurate and reliable way the story of Jesus and what that story means for us and i’m super excited to jump right into that with you guys

Most of us don’t know a life without the heavy presence of social media in our lives. This is a presence we have become intimate with and dependent upon. We’ve all heard older people (or the rare millennials who don’t to have an online profile) in our lives mourn the days when we used to connect over dinner without glancing down at our phones. I idealize those days too. However, the social media revolution has many benefits. The world becomes smaller every day, allowing people to connect and exchange ideas instantaneously and effortlessly. At the same time, the way social media spreads messages among masses of people, it also spreads individuals’ attention far too thin for healthy maintenance of authenticity, self-perception and mental health. Because of the constant use of sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc., we are not always aware of the ways social exchanges in the digital universe can negatively affect our lifestyle. One of the best ways to be cognizant of the ways that social media is subtracting from quality of life is to go without it for a while.
Many people have noticed a dependence on their profiles and timelines for identity and entertainment, leading them to go on fasts from social media. Social media fasts allow people to, over a fixed period of time, center down and rediscover their individuality, focus, values and relationships without the lens of likes and shares. If you are on the fence about going on a social media fast, here are some reasons to consider making it happen:

What is Lent? Why do Christians celebrate it? Why 40 days? What have I done for lent?
Here’s the Bible info I was reading about the number 40
Moses was also on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights, on two separate occasions (Exodus 24:18, 34:1 - 28), receiving God's laws. He also sent spies, for forty days, to investigate the land God had promised the Israelites as an inheritance (Numbers 13:25, 14:34).
The prophet Jonah powerfully warned ancient Nineveh, for forty days, that its destruction would come because of its many sins.The prophet Ezekiel laid on His right side for 40 days to symbolize Judah's sins (Ezekiel 4:6).
Elijah went 40 days without food or water at Mount Horeb. Jesus was tempted by the devil not just three times, but many times during the 40 days and nights he fasted just before his ministry began. He also appeared to his disciples and others for 40 days after his resurrection from the dead.
The number forty can also represent a generation of man. Because of their sins after leaving Egypt, God swore that the generation of Israelites who left Egyptian bondage would not enter their inheritance in Canaan (Deuteronomy 1). The children of Israel were punished by wandering the wilderness 40 years before a new generation was allowed to possess the promised land.

Just for some context:
It is generally held that this gospel was written by John Mark, the nephew of Barnabas, and is the earliest of the four gospels. According to tradition it is based on the teaching of the apostle Peter, whose interpreter Mark became (cf 1 Peter. 5:13), and was written in Rome for the church there. It begins with a short preliminary statement of John the Baptist’s ministry, and of the baptism and temptation of Jesus, and then passes on to His public ministry in Galilee. In common with the other Gospels, it devotes a comparatively large space to Jesus’ sufferings, death, resurrection.
The story centres in the confession of Peter, ‘You are the Christ’ (8:27-29). Up to that time it tells of our Lord’s activity in preaching and healing; but after the confession of Peter, Jesus makes known to the Twelve that He must suffer and die, and be raised the third day, and His face is turned towards the cross. The disciples failed to understand; and the work of Jesus in this latter half of the Gospel consists largely in teaching His disciples, and seeking to wean them from the false ideas of the Kingdom that possessed their minds.
The closing verses of the Gospel (16:9-20) do not appear to be the original ending. Some ancient manuscripts end at 16:8, and others have a different paragraph at the close. However, these verses contain the great missionary commission and have an established claim to be regarded as a part of Scripture.

In today’s episode we will be jumping right into Matthew Chapter 20
What is the meaning of the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard?
This parable teaches us about God’s goodness and right as Almighty God to do as he pleases especially in matters of His grace.
The landowner, whose decision to pay all the workers the same was an act of mercy—not injustice—represents God, whose grace and mercy are shed abundantly upon those of His choosing. “For he says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’ It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy” Romans 9:15-16. In the matter of salvation, His grace and mercy are given to those whose self-righteous works could never obtain it. We are all sinful and “fall short of the glory of God”Romans 3:23, but His grace is sufficient to redeem all who believe. Whether God calls someone early or late in life to partake of His grace, the glory and praise for our salvation is His and His alone and in no way amounts to unfairness. Just as the landowner has a right to do what he wishes with his own money, so does God have the right to have mercy on whom He will have mercy.
The first group of workers in the vineyard resented receiving the same wage as the last group. Their attitude was similar to that of the Pharisees, who were incensed at Jesus’ teaching that others could inherit a heavenly kingdom they thought was reserved for them alone. They despised Jesus for offering the kingdom to poor, oppressed, weak sinners whom He made equal to them. In verse 15, the landowner asks, “Is your eye evil because I am good?” The “evil eye” was a Hebrew expression referring to jealousy and envy. God’s goodness and mercy produced in the self-righteous Pharisees the evil eye of envy. The rest of the workers received their wages without complaint or envy of others. In the same way, as Christians, we should rejoice when others come to the Savior, as we should rejoice in the service others render to Him. He is faithful to reward us for our service as He has promised, and how He rewards others should be of no consequence to us, nor should it affect our devotion to Him.
The message in verse 16, “the last will be first, and the first last,” is that no matter how long or how hard a believer works during his lifetime, the reward of eternal life will be the same given to all—an eternity of bliss in heaven in the presence of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. The thief on the cross, Luke 23:39-43 whose life of service was limited to a moment of repentance and confession of faith in Christ, received the same reward of eternal life as the apostle Paul. Of course, Scripture also teaches that there are different rewards in heaven or different services, but the ultimate reward of eternal life will be achieved by all equally.

What does it mean to deny ourselves?
Self-denial for the Christian means renouncing oneself as the center of existence (which goes against the natural inclination of the human will) and recognizing Jesus Christ as one’s new and true center. It means acknowledging that the old self is dead and the new life is now hidden with Christ in God
Self-denial can look different for all as we’re all part of different walks of life and different struggles but perhaps the most significant way we practice self-denial is in how we love respect our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Self-denial is the basis for Christian fellowship and service within the church and is actively demonstrated perfectly by Jesus : “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” Philippians 2:4-8

Just some tidbits from today:
Jesus did not only call the twelve; He also gave them power to do what He had called them to do. The same principle holds true today: whom God calls, God equips. The equipping may not be completely evident before the ministry begins, but it will be evident along the way.
Jesus’ disciples didn’t need to be afraid, because God really did care for them, even down to the most minute detail. If God cares for the sparrows, and numbers the very hairs of our head, then He will also pay careful attention to our needs. The persecuted easily feel that God forgets them, but He has not.
God knows us better than our friends know us; better than our husband or wife knows us; He knows us better than we know ourselves. We don’t know how many hairs are numbered on our head. The God who knows us so well will take care of us.

What is the significance of Jesus calming the storm?
In today’s episode we will be jumping right into Matthew Chapter 8
This passage not only reveals Jesus’ true humanity, but also Jesus' deity. Faith in Christ is never misplaced. If He can calm the storms of the sea with one word, He can calm the storms of life as well.
A good question for us to ask ourselves as COVID-19 rages is, where is our faith?
The disciples spent a lot of time with Jesus and saw him perform many miracles. You would think that they’d have a lot of faith. But in their humanity, it became evident they had more faith that the storm would destroy them than in Jesus saving them.
Do we have more faith in the pandemic than in the mercy and grace of God? There is not a disease that Jesus was unable to heal, there is nothing outside of God's control. If the fear in us is stronger than our faith, we can turn to Him and he’ll teach us because his mercy endures forever.

Today aside from many other things, Jesus reminds us of the importance of living for the present day. It isn’t wrong to remember the past or plan for the future; to some degree both of those are good. Yet it is easy to become too focused on either the past or the future and to let the day and its own trouble be ignored. God wants us to remember the past, plan for the future, but live in the present. Hope that helps x
