In the 1980s, all sorts of cars were privately imported, which would have otherwise not been sold in the United States. However, as car manufactures began losing money, they lobbied the U.S. government to implement the 25 year rule. Now we must wait 25 years to import any cars that are not already sold new in the States. Aside from the over two decade wait time, there’s the added challenge of making them EPA compliant to be driven on the road. That can take a lot of time and money, but we can still daydream about some of these far, far away vehicles.
