We're going on a journey called life. Join Matt for stories, perspectives, thoughts, and shared experiences on a range of topics from cooking, to science, to parenting, to writing, and beyond.
I took a couple of days off, but I'm back with a story about making soup dumplings! Thanks as always for sharing your time with me.
Tonight I am acknowledging that I do not feel as successful and productive today as I'd like to feel. And I wanted to share that and how I'm processing it with you. Enjoy. :)
Today the one and only Lori Hoffer joins me while we sip some hot chocolate and talk about getting out into nature today. Also, about listening to the body and heeding the call to play and rest. Thanks for your insights, Lori!
On tonight's episode I talk about getting lucky... but not in the way you're thinking :)
And more snow is possibly in the forecast. Enjoy!
Tonight I share some stories of my experiences around snow, most recently the snowstorm that we had here recently and one about 6 years ago when I was in Chicago. Enjoy!
Tonight I share some reflections of lessons learned from a recent pause in my life. Will my 2021 change course as a result? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't yet have an answer, but I know that this episode is an important one in the determination of that. Enjoy. :)
Today I talk about planning! And not knowing what episode number I'm on. And in some ways, how they're related. Enjoy!
Today I discuss my 40 before 40 list as well as a weird spammy request I got tonight on social media. Enjoy!
Today was a fun snow day! I chat a little bit about having fun in the snow and the energy of getting into February. Enjoy!
A discussion on the question "Would you rather save time or save money?" I ponder some different perspectives on this in this 8 minute episode.
Also, a fun slip of the tongue mid-way through. :)
I fell asleep on my couch after dinner! I talk about way, and also prep for snow shenanigans. Short one today. Enjoy.
Responding to an email I got with some words from James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, on creating a lifestyle and on the fear of the blank canvas. I enjoyed this one... reflection in real time...
Enjoy.
Tonight I discuss a continuation of my thoughts from yesterday about unfiltered kindness and an addition to that conversation based on something that happened today. And, I discuss chocolate cake for chocolate cake day!! Enjoy.
Today I reflect on two separate conversations I've had, and how I felt differently about each of them, but in the end how they are related... and what I take away from that moving forward. Enjoy!
On today's episode, as promised, a continuation of the thoughts from yesterday. What does growing up feel like? Enjoy!
Tonight I talk about my neighbors and the little bit of joy they are spreading, as well as riff on my thoughts around outdoor walking and sidewalk etiquette.
Enjoy!
The date is pretty!! 1-23-21.
I recount some of the hustle that has been my life over the last few years and how this year has been different. But different is not bad, and as we embrace the changes we've had, we learn from being present. Enjoy.
I hope you enjoy tonight's collection of random thoughts! I discuss decision overwhelm, the wealth of Bernie memes, and I realized that I don't know what year it is. Enjoy!
I don't really talk too much about national popcorn day, other than that I did, in fact, have some popcorn.
But, gave a few updates on some topics I've chatted about before, and embraced some imperfection on another. Enjoy.
Welcome to Episode 18. I am feeling much better today, although still not 100%.
On this episode I reflect on the energy needed for healing, and how we know that for physical healing. But, perhaps as a culture we don't give it enough attention for mental/emotional healing.
Thanks, as always for listening. Talk to you tomorrow.
I've got a fever.... literally.
Yep, woke up this morning definitely not feeling my best. I share my thoughts on expansion and contraction, as I've learned them over the course of the year. And a reminder to myself that it's okay to rest and not be working all the time. Even when there's things that I want to do, it's still work, and still diverts energy from the healing of the body.
Now it's off to get some rest, and hope to kick whatever this thing is that I've got.
Tonight we get cheesy! (Yes, I went there.)
I start off goofy and then we just keep rolling on the goofy train. But, in episode 16 I share about watching movies, and how I learned a life lesson from Cottage Cheese.
I hope you enjoy and join me for a ride on the goofy train tonight. :D
Today's post is a reaction to a thread I was watching on social media today. A friend of mine posted something that they were dealing with, and someone made a comment that we should wait to have that conversation until the world settled down. I disagree. And my thoughts are shared here. Enjoy.
I had (or had again) an epiphany tonight while I was out for a run. I am a creator. I want to create things. That is where I derive my most satisfaction. I discuss that, and where it came from on today's episode. Enjoy!
Day 13! Today I discuss what happens when I am feeling productive but not satisfied. I break down the nuances a bit and look to deploy some awareness on identifying what that feeling means.
I also chat about the origin of this project and how excited I am to continue to produce these short episodes. Enjoy!
Your inherent greatness are the things you take for granted about yourself that others see as awesome. I reflect on this on today's episode.
Quick one today.. I give an update on 3 things I've talked about over the last two or three days. My 1% plank, my mysterious black friday package, and the 'once-in-a-millenium' comment.
Enjoy!
I had fun with today's episode! (Although I enjoy them all, today I brought some math to the party.)
I discuss the notion of small daily improvements continued over time and the results that one can see from that. As mentioned, one of my words of the year is "Invest" and I really love how this concept layers over that. Longer than usual today, around 9 minutes, but I got on a roll and I hope you find this exciting and encouraging to keep going with your intentions for the month and year! Enjoy!
Today's episode is short and sweet... I share (what I think) is a funny story about the fate of a Black Friday order that I made. Enjoy!
Today was a fun one. I wasn't even really sure what I was going to talk about until I pressed record, and I'm so glad I did. I share a reflection on honoring my commitments to myself and how being challenged on one behavior pattern has made a monumental shift in my overall identity.
On today's episode I discuss how I've been recognizing the sabotages showing up in my day today and how I've been standing up to them. I hope this helps you in recognizing where your sabotage shows up and maybe that a shift in perspective can help you stand up to them, too.
Today is a remarkably heavy day. There's lots of feels. I've been consumed by it for the last several hours. Tonight's reflection is a sharing about how I processed through what I was feeling, and took action along side that in order to continue to honor myself and my commitments.
Today didn't really go as well as I had planned. And that's okay. I discussed where things went off the rails as well as my efforts to reset and set myself up for tomorrow.
Today I reflect on how I had an urge to fix my morning routine even before I'd had a chance to finish it. Or to even think it was actually in need of fixing! That led me to reading a passage about busy-ness by one of favorites: Brené Brown. I hope you enjoy!
Today I chat about the upcoming first Monday of 2021, A quote I really love, and how it all plays into how I'm feeling today on 1-3-21.
Today's episode was a quick recording directly into Otter (A dictation app) as I was working on taking down my Christmas decorations. I talk about how just because the season is over, we don't have the abandon the feelings of the season. A short 3 minutes.
