A weekly podcast bringing you relevant discussion around the ever-changing landscape of Financial Services, delivered in a friendly and easy to follow manner.
In the final episode of the first series of thinKING finance, Ash rounds off with the prevalent topic of money and mental health. Everyone can imagine how you feel when you are struggling and low, but how about the opposite end of the spectrum? How should you feel when everything is going well? Is it as simple as happy? Ash ends the series with his own thoughts on the topic and his own experiences. For more content and interaction, follow @thinking_finance on Instagram.
In the penultimate episode of series 1, Ash tackles the serious topic of debt. He speaks about the types of debt you can accrue, the differences between them as well as his personal opinion on each one. As the episode progresses Ash discusses his own experience with debt as well as the issues he sees surrounding people with debt and in particular overdrafts. In the off topic section, which is shorter than usual, the controversial and divisive topic of politics is briefly discussed. If you want to know what Ash means when he says the "Brian from Family Guy effect" make sure you give it a listen. For more content and interaction, follow @thinking_finance on instagram.
This week Ash tackles the Stock Market after it has been so prevalent in the news. Given the metoric rise of Gamestop stock (#GME), it was only fair that a finance podcast discusses what exactly has happened, how and why it's happened and what Ash think will happen next. Have the Wall Street buffs finally got their commupance? Has the stock market changed forever? Or is this a little bump in a market that will carry on largely how it has before? Given that this started on Reddit, it was only appropriate to talk about social media and its relationship with money in the off-topic session. This week Ash tackles the often tedious but perhaps undervalued topic of Protection, or as it's more generally known - Insurance. He covers the different types of insurance and how it works, but also goes in depth on the importance of having the right cover in place. That said, Ash discusses the limitations and why it's the hardest product he deals with as an adviser when making recommendations. In the off topic section we talk about University, and how you may get value from areas where you may not expect.
This week Ashley discusses careers in finance, including going through his own journey from university student to Independent Financial Advisor and all the bumps along the way. We touch upon options and different career routes, as well as some useful hints and tips to get you on the right way should that be the route you'd like to go down. The off topic section discusses "Lad culture" and the potential pitfalls, Ash's own experience and the most talked about meme of 2021. In the first episode of 2021, Ash provides an outlook for the coming year, what may happen with Mortgages, Investment Markets and the effect of further restrictions on people's individual financial circumstances. Given how unpredictable 2020 was despite starting like any other year, a year that has started with mass US protests, extreme weather and third lockdown is likely to be even more unpredictable! Outside of that, more restrictions and changes will have more and more effect on people's mental wellbeing. For more content, discussion and interaction, follow @thinking_finance on Instagram.
In the final episode of 2020, and the half way episode of our first series, Ash discusses how finance has changed this year and what has happened. We go over past episodes and note what has changed this then, what has 2020 done to mortgages, housing markets, investments and the effect of this year on different people's mental health. Ash talks about his own personal journey this year, and how he has had to change and adapt his own style of thinking. For more content, follow @thinking_finance on Instagram.
This week, Ash discusses Cryptocurrency and the pros and potentially cons and pitfalls of investing in this new and volatile asset class. What is a Bitcoin? How is it different to a normal coin? How is it regulated? What methods are their of actually buying one and what protection do you have when investing in this interesting new instrument. In the off topic section, Ash talks about Football and how it has changed with finance - can you guess how many of the 50 most expensive transfers in history were this side of 2010? As always, follow @thinking_finance on Instagram for regular updates and content.
In this weeks episode Ash tackles the difficulties around actually saving money, gives tips on how to do so and examples of how he has managed (or not managed as the case has been!) to do so himself. He discusses principles around savings, and gives a few pointers of what has and hasn't worked for him. In the off topic section the juxtaposed subject of Gambling is discussed and issues surrounding it. For more information and regular content, follow @thinking_finance on Instagram.
In this weeks episode Ash tackles the often perceived as boring subject of pensions. Do you know what type of pension you have? Do you know what tax relief is available? Is a pension really free money or is it just a scam? As well as this, Ash shares his personal thoughts on Coronavirus as England comes out of its second lockdown and into a new tier system. In this episode, Ash goes through a high-level overview of what investing is, what you can invest in and where your return comes from in each asset class. He also discusses the high-interest topics of trading / stock selection, compared to passive investing for the long term. In his off-topic section, Ash will look at how Financial Services is represented in film - is the Wolf of Wall Street a good entry brochure to the industry?!
The first episode of thinKING finance explores the property market, mortgages and the challenges first time buyers are facing. What is generation rent?
