Welcome to another episode of Community on Purpose, the podcast where we sit down with women who are intentionally creating community through business, giving or living. I’ve got to give a little trigger warning for today’s episode - we talk about our usual favorites here - identity, mentorship, community - but we’ve also got some trauma we cover and specifically a story, with a happy ending, but tragic just the same around kids and drowning. Our guest Raphaela Cohee shares how her identity changed with a significant tragedy and how her beliefs about herself were challenged not only by a medical diagnosis but by accepting that she was simply not in control. Married for the last decade to her husband Taylor and with two children, Raphi is a master networker, a prowling friendship maker, and an avid believer that we were not meant to do this life alone. Her stories of discovering how people can come together from a living room gift exchange to a massive gala supporting organizations specifically aimed at giving community and a leg up to women and children is both inspiring and necessary. You’ve heard me say it before, community does not happen on accident, and Raphi’s powerful story about how showing up has shown up for her, how serving others has given her purpose and direction, and why she believes that making a difference in this world starts with making a difference for just one person. Listen as Raphi shares her story with us and challenges you to share your story with others. Let’s Go!

Welcome to another episode of Community on Purpose, the podcast where we sit down with women who are intentionally creating community through business, giving or living. Today’s episode doubled as a personal therapy session with Miss Jordan Maney, the Radical Joy Coach who helps bleeding heart creative business owners learn to be advocates for themselves and their communities through the practice of rest.

Jordan has coached business owners from a variety of industries and having spent four years lovingly disrupting the wedding industry as a planner and advocate of marginalized couples, she pivoted exclusively towards rest and joy coaching with an equity lens in 2020. Our conversation was deeply personal where I asked Jordan questions about how we define rest, how we create boundaries, and how as leaders we can model this behavior for our communities.

I absolutely love Jordan’s perspective on rest being a collective action and why so many of us aren't getting any because we don’t have an individual practice or a community to lean on. Her definition of bleeding hearts as natural advocates who champion everyone but themselves really struck a cord, - the idea that many of us care for everyone else and how Jordan is helping people just like this advocate for their own needs.

This podcast episode is powerful, impactful and Jordan’s passion is evident - knowing when to listen and when to speak, sharing from her heart, building spaces where people don’t have to fit in - everyone needs some Jordan in their life. Listen in and listen up, you are going to want to pause and repeat this episode many times over.

Welcome to another episode of Community on Purpose, the podcast where we sit down with women who are intentionally creating community through business, giving or living. I am going to start this episode with a trigger warning which we’ll mention a few times throughout the podcast. If you are in a place where conversations about sexual assault, breast cancer, or trafficking are more harmful than healing - you might want to skip over this one or at least be aware of your feelings going into it. Our guest today is Amanda Schneider, Executive Director of Amplify Voices, a nonprofit organization serving individuals from marginalized communities who want to use their voice as an instrument of change. After participating in Amplify's first program: Triumph Over Trafficking and Sexual Abuse where she brought her own story to the voice, Amanda brought her varied background of corporate, public education, training and entrepreneurship to her current role at the organization and her passion for serving others to the women they serve. As a momma to three boys, Amanda shares how she navigated her own traumatic experiences through the help of Amplify’s programming and why she is so committed to giving others a voice. With the upcoming release of their documentary, titled The Journey, Amanda hopes to raise awards for what the organization does to support their community and why she believes so strongly in the power of a safe community. Listen in as we explore topics of belonging, the fundamental need to be seen and heard and why finding your passion and getting involved is so very important for your growth. Join Amanda and I in our conversation right now.

Founder of Mother & Founder Co and host of the Messy Middle podcast, Jen Burwell, joins us to talk about what healing from within can look like on the journey to self discovery and acceptance. As a mother of three and a leader inspired to help other women show up from a place of balance and authentic strength, Jen works with leaders in the small to mid-sized space to create sustainable and impactful strategic plans with the whole self in mind. Jen shares how she felt a calling to support entrepreneurs who almost weren’t - women who stayed out of the entrepreneurial path because they thought it couldn’t work for them or their families. Through her strategic planning process, she helps women visualize their goals and create a strategy that will help them reach them in both their business AND family sphere - in a more sustainable way. An Arizona native with a challenging childhood, Jen became a trauma integration practitioner and a student of human behavior as a complement to her strategy work and a means to personal exploration and healing. A strong believer in the power and magic of community, Jen shares her thoughts on creating boundaries, seeking clarity in who you are and where you are headed, the need to do the sometimes painful interwork, and practicing presence. Recently challenged with a mental illness in her family, Jen opens up about how her work showed up for her when she need it most and shares a bit about her journey in navigating mental health issues with her spouse in real time. An inspirational leader in the space, listen in as Jen shares her words of advice for women navigating change, seeking collaboration and community, and living a life of purpose and alignment.

When we talk about measuring what matters, many will neglect metrics like health and wellbeing in favor of productivity and profitability. Our guest this week doesn’t believe it has to be an OR conversation but rather an AND conversation as she regularly works with organizations to create healthy employees who in turn create a more empowered and productive work force. Jane Cebrynski, contract Chief Wellbeing Officer doubles as a yogi Life Coach who uses the language of sports to train high achieving individuals to become champions for what matters most to them. She is a firm believer that her path from disengaged employee to inspired mentor grew out of a need for greater alignment, making friends with “deserve” and believing that we all matter and pushing herself and now others to get out of the comfort zone and into the growth zone. Listen as Jane shares her story of life transitions as a mom, wife, and career professional seeking to redesign her life in three dimensions. As a certified yoga instruction, Jane brings her commitment to mental and physical well being to the mat where she guides others in being true to themselves and showing up in an authentic manner that is accepting of our differences. Jane believes there is no wrong way to do life and has chosen to give back to Positive Pathways for Youth, a nonprofit organization supporting at risk youth, as a mentor. There are people in the world who carry such an energy into a room with them that if there was absolutely no light at all, everything would be glowing with their entrance. Our next guest can only be described as a literal light in this world, a woman who has given of herself to others, worked hard and is clearly passionate about being a role model for her family, community, and employees. The most incredible part about Mrs. Gayle Schmidt, owner of the only Buffalo Wild Wings Franchise in the Phoenix Area, is that she is so incredibly humble and wouldn’t have guessed for a moment that she was doing anything other than the right thing, what people should do, how people should act, and showing up that way consistently. Gayle shares the story of her marriage to college sweetheart Dr. Bill Schmidt after both graduating from dental school and going into practice together for 30 years where creating a consumer experience was much needed but not commonly explored. From Dr. Schmidt’s No Cavities Club, to spa treatments while in the chair, the Schmidt’s community practice was built on caring for their clients like they would their own family and backing up that sentiment with activities, events, and a consumer focused model. After selling their practice and moving back to the West Coast, Gayle and her husband opened the franchise in Arizona and transferred their love of people to a new industry. A strong believer that employers should train their staff so they can leave but treat them so well they don’t want to, Gayle has consistently won awards for creating a company culture that is empowering and rewarding. Built on the pillars of having fun and doing the right thing, Gayle believes that the key to happiness is to love without expectation, serve without wanting recognition, and caring even when others don’t . Listen in to an endless number of takeaways from this beautiful soul as she shares the true meaning of community with our listeners.

Listen in as she identifies some of the most common signs of burn out, of chronic stress, and of hormone imbalance and how her revive formula was specifically created for women over 40. We dig deep into what life was like when she was being applauded for her work successes and how that impacted how she felt as a wife and mom. Her journey through the medical system and her refusal to accept “you are fine” as an answer to how she was feeling, provides the back drop to how she built a company based on experience and perseverance. Her perspective on entrepreneurship, what women are often picking up on in the disconnect between hustle culture and health, and how community plays such an impactful role in our connectedness and our self worth is inspiring.
