It is that time of year again when Laurel and Sam sit down to chat about some of the incredible conversations. They had this past season with guests that quickly became friends as the conversations unfolded.
We recap talking about becoming an entrepreneur and wishing we had known about the work Shelagh does (@shelaghcummins). We know that when we are feeling sad or overwhelmed and need some support that we can always call on Kirsten (@tlclifecoaching). We acknowledge two wonderful individuals who brought us together with without even necessarily knowing that that's what they were doing, Jodie (@themotherlode) and Judie (@judienotjodie). There are so many reflections in this episode.
Our third season found us taking more opportunities to slow down and record times when we have connected with one another about what's been going on in our lives, about the guests we've spoken to and breaking down some of the feelings that we've had about some of our episodes.
So far, season three is up there in our top three seasons that we've been putting this show together.
We wish you an amazing and sunny summer. Be good to one another. Treat yourself with kindness, love and respect.

Did you know that seemingly innocuous traumatic physical events in our lives can manifest in our fascia, causing chronic pain many, many years after the original event? Once the body heals on the outside people believe that the trauma has healed and gone; never to be felt again.
Today we have the opportunity to introduce you to Nelin Krull, RP and Myofascial Release Therapist. We learn more about long-term and ongoing healing patterns that can be set even decades after an injury occurs (that includes that time you fell off your bike when you were a child or were in a simple MVC as a teen).

Deciding to start a family for anyone can be frightening. Add to that being a member of the Queer community and you: increase fear about discrimination, add worry about sourcing gametes and understand that it is a process that takes time and money.
Today we have the opportunity to talk with BBB cohost Sam Leeson- about the first ever 2SLGBTQIA+ family planning event, “becoming babyREADY,” being hosted at The 519 at 519 Church St. in Toronto the morning of Saturday, June 8 from 9 AM until noon.
Learn from lawyers and fertility specialists, naturopath, and psychotherapist. This is the opportunity to get the answers to the questions you didn't even know you had.
And this isn't in your wheelhouse, but you know someone in the queer community who would benefit from learning more, direct them to Sam's website: www.babyREADY.info or have them find her on social media @babyREADYlgbtq@The519 @PollinFertility @minigiantsinc

If you have watched the series “9 Perfect Strangers,” then you have been introduced to the concept of micro-dosing. While it wasn't legitimized in this series, the concept was at least introduced so that viewers had an initiation into the thought process.
We are not here to tell you that should or should not try it. But today we have the chance to introduce you to Kathleen Oh, and she answers some our questions so that you have an idea what a psilocybin is.
It’s important to also remember that mushrooms are really good for you. And current research is linking the use of them with more and more efficacy in certain cases, for certain people, with certain mental health concerns.

In this second part of our conversation with Shelagh Cummins, we have the opportunity to spend a little bit of time talking about how it is OK for women to want to smash their glass ceilings!
This week we talk actual numbers. We talk actual statistics. We talk about the amount of money and entrepreneur would need to make for their business in order to be able to take home the amount of revenue that they would like to see in their bank account. Suffice it to say that you want to be in the 12% she describes, instead of the 88%

Just because you have not been physically, emotionally, sexually or financially assaulted by a partner doesn’t mean that you can’t appreciate what an overwhelming horror it would be to live in such a situation.
Today we talk about this very topic with Robin Read. Robin’s personality is one that attracts people to her just as it is also her personality to want to do whatever she can in her community to make the world a better place. “You can be anything you dream of being.” This is the mantra that we hear throughout our childhoods and we set our sights on lofty goals.
Becoming Mayor to a medium-sized city may not have been something that Marianne Meed Ward specifically wanted to be as a child. What she DID know was that she wanted to make the world a better place. She wanted to help people. Support people. Create a healthy and respectful community in which she and everyone else would comfortably live.

Whether it is the things we buy, the relationships we engage in, the places in which we feel we need to take up space, our attachments may negatively affect the quality of our lives.
Make no mistake though, attachment in and of itself is not inherently bad or negative. Sometimes the relationships we have with people, places and things can be deep and profound thus completely attached and healthy. It is unhealthy when our attachment ends up hindering our personal growth, health and well-being.
Confused yet? It can feel like a lot to sort out the differences between the good/healthy and the bad/negative.

Wanting to have an emotionally, financially and physically prosperous life is great . . . in theory. How do we go about that though?
Today we are speaking again with Heidi Martin of Heidi Martin Wellness and this time she and Laurel discuss exactly that. What are the key elements we need to sincerely adopt before we will be prosperous.
Before you go to bed at night allow yourself to feel as though the universe will protect you and provide you with what you need.
Pay it forward. When you can do something for the unseen person behind you, do it. Leave them with the feeling that they, in turn, want to do something good for the person behind THEM. Kindness begets kindness.
Flip your belief towards your bills. Allow yourself to honestly reflect upon what you need versus what you want and bring that in line with what you know you can truly afford.
Listen to the messages from the universe when you don’t respect enough the need for down time too so that you have balance.
If you want to bring prosperity into your life then watch what you are saying to yourself. Stop complaining and criticizing yourself endlessly. Open yourself to believe that the universe will provide for you and that you fully deserve it.
Be thankful for all that you have.

There is so much stress that can really take hold (and it isn’t always negative stress) around the holiday season, even though we know that stress can have a negative impact on our personal wellbeing.
What are the things you truly, in your heart, WANT to do and what are the things that you can delegate to someone else so that you can make them feel involved as well as reduce your own stress (financially, with your time, with your emotions, etc).

This week Laurel and Sam sit back and have an honest and raw conversation about intimate partner violence and domestic assaults, as well as violence against women.
While all of us know that this is an issue that remains pervasive in the world we live in, it is not something we talk about often enough. This week marks the 34th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre at l’Ecole Polytechnique. 14 women were murdered that day. 10 women were injured and the soul focus of the assassin was to kill women because he perceived them to be a threat against what he thought his future should be.

At this time of year it is not difficult to find people who will tell you that the darkening days and minimal exposure to sunlight has them feeling, fatigued, unmotivated, and often depressed.

Today we have the opportunity to speak with Natacha Pennycooke, Registered Psychotherapist, about burn-out and the overall wellness of women-identifying entrepreneurs.

We talk about trauma a lot.
This is a fairly new phenomenon in the world. Up until the last 10 to 15 years we have really been mostly instructed to keep our trauma to ourselves and not to think about processing it so we can move forward.
Today we have the opportunity to speak with and learn from Lara Stewart Panko. They are a Registered Social Worker, and they do a significant amount of work with clients surrounding trauma and learning to heal from trauma.

Every one of us has a preference as to how our personal space is presented both to ourselves and to the world around us.
Some people prefer to have photographs and knickknacks, reminders and mementos of the people and places that feed our memories and our souls.
Other people like clean lines, and everything out of sight to feel a sense of clear headedness.
Both approaches are completely right for the person who has those feelings.
On today’s show we are speaking with Judy Rickey about the art of decluttering and what that may or may not mean to each of us. What to keep? What to give away? What to sell? Becoming a parent and going through the process of pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum can be one of the most amazing and exhilarating times in someone’s life. It can also be a time when there are more questions than it feels that there are answers.
Knowing that your care provider will take the time to sit with you and answer your questions and let you make decisions about your own care is a gift that our Midwives offer in Ontario.
This week we are honoured to welcome experienced midwife ‘Remi Ejiwunmi to the show. She will tell us why she does the work she does, what kind of work it is that midwives actually do and where the industry needs to go in order to compensate these extremely hard working care providers.

From the time we are born, young women and girls are taught to downplay and minimize the feelings that we have from the traumas that we have experienced. We don’t let ourselves think about the reality that these traumas stay with us for the rest of our lives, even if they don’t manifest in the most obvious way.
How we feel them is really unique and individual to everyone of us. We may experience self limiting beliefs, depression or anxiety, and we may feel isolated in our trauma.

You know that voice in the back of your head that tells you that you are not enough? That voice that tells you that every other parent that you meet on the playground seems to have things far more together than you ever could? That voice that makes you wonder how you ever thought you were good enough to be someone’s parent?
Today we have the opportunity to speak with Libby Ward, the creator of “Diary of an Honest Mom.“
Libby didn’t start out trying to be the voice of reason among parents who were struggling. She simply started documenting some of her thoughts & feelings about parenting. From there she realized that there was a whole world out there of people who needed to hear what she had to say.

Co-parenting is a struggle for every single person we know, who has a child with a partner. Both of you will look at childrearing a little bit differently, even if you are both on the same page most of the time. It can be a challenge and one that creates conflict within the family dynamic.
When there is a separation and/or divorce added to the parenting journey, the challenges can feel magnified. Decisions are not yours to make alone and coming to a mutually agreeable answer can be exhausting, emotionally and physically.
Today with are speaking with Stephanie Belen, RSW - The Coparenting Counsellor and we discuss ways to work with your children as all of you navigate the new family changes. We talk about the BIFF method of communication, watching for behavioural changes with your child(ten) and more. Being a teenager or young adult is difficult at the best of times. We find so many challenges that present to us as we try to figure out how to navigate life; fiercely wanting our independence while at the same time still being young enough to not really know what the best course of action might be. Layered into that may be the challenge of knowing that your sexuality is different than that of the majority of your peers; it can add an incredible amount of pressure on the young person.
This week we are incredibly lucky to speak to one of Canada‘s youngest coaches, Alannah Byers. Alannah works with 2SLGBTQIA+ young people and their families or friends if they so choose and she coaches them about navigating a world that has a very heterosexual normative approach.

With a noticeable percentage of Canada’s population, being people of visible minority background, it is astounding that the percentage of physicians in Canada, who are also visible minorities, does not reflect that statistic.
Today we had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Hadal El-Hadi. Dr El-Hadi is a cofounder of organization, “Black Physicians of Canada.” This organization is a space where people, not just black physicians, can go to learn, understand, and grow, and so that medical students coming behind in their professional community have a place to find mentors and ask questions from their peers.
Dr El-Hadi provided us with the opportunity to learn about how things are, how they’ve been, and how we can all be a part of positive change, moving forward.

We are truly humbled by the guests we have interviewed and the listeners who have subscribed, rated and reviewed. The show would not be the success that it is without everyone playing a vital role.

Kristy and Pam both come from fairly traditional professional backgrounds. Kristy is a speech pathologist, and Pam is a social worker. Once they learned about holistic healthcare and healing and opened themselves up to learning about new approaches to therapy, they realized that they could have a more significant impact on all of the clients that they see and work with.
Their egg is new and unique. It is a less conventional than most would assume, for two people who come with the backgrounds they do. However, the results that people have been speaking about with regard to their time in the egg have left a little doubt as to its efficacy. Intrigued?

From the time she was a little girl, Fran Murray knew that she loved to be creative in the kitchen. Some of it was born of necessity. She was spending time on a farm and, well, she’ll tell you the rest.
Today we speak with Fran about how she is not only an incredible baker but that her business vision also focusses on building up the lives and the businesses of other women, so everyone has the opportunity to prosper together.
If that weren’t enough, another skillset Fran has creatively developed is that of author. She, along with a team of women entrepreneurs peers, found a voice in her writing and sharing her story. She co-penned the book, “Remarkable,” which launches is available from her website at the end of October.

Do you know someone who would benefit from connecting with Alannah? Would you benefit from that connection? To touch base with her please visit: http://alannahbyers.com/

Sam Leeson-McCoy - babyREADY & working with 2SLGTQIA+ people
Cofounder and co-creator of this boobs, bods & brains podcast, Sam Leeson-McCoy, first began helping people have babies 23 years ago. Over the last 2+ decades her business has grown and evolved to include fertility guidance, doula care, lactation support, prenatal classes, parent coaching and more.
Within the last 10 years she has made an effort to focus the majority of her work with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, of which she is a part.
She is excited about her upcoming virtual baby show titled ‘Not “The Other“ Baby Show’ which is specifically focused with stories by and for members of the 2SLGBTQIA public who are starting and growing their families. This show is launching in September. All too often 2SLGBTQIA+ people are marginalized when it comes to discussing starting or growing a family. This is their chance to learn without feeling like “the other.”

For as long as most of us can remember all television shows, movies, advertising and promotional material has included images of women being depicted and illustrated as young, vibrant, long-haired, thin and engaging individuals. It is therefore not surprising that so many of our youth start off their lives with self image issues and that those issues just continue to age with them over time.
This week we are proud to welcome Jodi Katzin to the show. Jodi tells her own story of what brought her to being an Eating Psychology Coach. Now she works with individuals who need guidance in helping them achieve an improved self image and an understanding of their own worthiness.

Many people who are assigned female at birth spend time dreaming about the time in their lives when they will carry and birth a baby. There are also those who want to go out of their way to avoid conception and yet they don’t know anything about their own fertility.
This week we have the honour of discussing fertility with Dr. Jessica Liu, ND. She will talk about charting for ourselves, how we embrace the function of the body and the disservice we have done to our youth. If we don’t know our bodies well enough to know when we CAN conceive a baby, how do we go about doing what we can (without chemicals) to take control of our sexual lives and prevent conception too? Have you ever been so drawn into a powerful, physical scene in a movie or on the stage and wondered “how did they DO that?” We are not just talking about the sex scenes, although they can be provocative for sure but poignant domestic disputes, racially charged interactions and more. All of these types of depictions of real life actions require respect, patience, understanding and compassion. And for the women participating in these roles, it has long been an expectation that they would simply perform as they are directed, without question.
The #metoo movement reminded women that they are entitled to have a voice and to feel safe everywhere and in every work environment. While Intimacy Directors and Intimacy Coordinators have been in existence in some form, for some time, their roles have grown and evolved dramatically since 2018. Today we are excited to introduce you to one of Canada’s 5 existing Intimacy Coordinators (the only one in Winnipeg) and Canada’s very own, Sharon Bajer. She is very familiar with the way women in theatre, television and film are treated due to her lengthy professional career as an actress. To learn more about Sharon, visit: https://sharonbajer.com

As we sit down it is not lost on any of the three of us that we are recording this conversation on March 21st, the day Ontario is lifting the mask mandate. Today we are talking to Grief Recovery Method coach, Kirsten Frey about how we have been conditioned, from childhood, to push down our sadness, anger, anxiety . . . truly any strong “negative” emotions to the point that we live in a world where there are more physiologic health concerns presenting - linked directly back to stress & grief - than ever before in history. How do we get past this? How to we move forward in a way that teaches us AND our children to have a healthy respect for the role grief and all of emotions play in our respective lives? This week we are joined by Annabel who will provide us with some description of both words, some examples of how the two are linked and explanation about how very different these two activities are. Annabel lays it out on the line for us and let’s us know that we don’t have to stop everything we are doing, completely change our way of life, simply to be able to embrace taking a moment to be mindful AND meditative. When we talk about the risk and likelihood of concussion we tend to think of elite and high level athletes. We think of being checked into the boards in ice hockey or being knocked back to hit our head on the court in basketball. We don’t think about how tripping, falling and hitting our heads in our bathroom could have the same life changing effect. Yet it can be equally traumatic.
This week we have the pleasure to be speaking with Erin McCarthy, PhD about the research she is doing following her own concussion experience. She leads us through understanding how our brain heals and what kinds of activities can help and hinder our brain’s recovery from a concussive injury.

According to John’s Hopkins the current statistics surrounding those affected by endometriosis is between 2 and 10%. The challenge with that number is that there are some who don’t experience pain, many who are diagnosed with other issues (like PCOS) and are left with the one diagnosis alone and even others who are dismissed for being hypersensitive and therefore no follow up is ever done.
This week, as Endometriosis Awareness Month winds down, we have invited Dr. Jessica Liu, ND to chat with us about what endometriosis is, how it can present and what we need to know in order to be our healthiest selves and our own best advocates. When we talk about health and wellness we often assume to speak about physical and emotional states of being. We frequently dismiss the overwhelming value of our financial health and the peace of mind that comes from planning for our future and for after we have gone.
This week we are speaking with Nicole Barrett about the need for all of us to plan for ourselves. Nicole is the Marketing Director with Lawyers & Lattes - a brilliant creation of her spouse who wanted to make sure that access to lawyers, legal advice and planning for the future (good, bad and otherwise) was easily accessible and, dare we say it . . . fun!? As parents all of us want our children to live their dreams and be successful. This is something the Olympic Gold Medal Hockey winner and Team Canada’s MVP Brianne Jenner can relate to; both as a parent and as someone who has dreamed about being a gold medal hockey winner since she was very young. In spite of the challenges that high level female athletes face being “taken seriously” in the world of sport, Brianne’s success shows us that women CAN do what men can do (and in Canada’s case this year - they can do it BETTER). We are excited to talk to Brianne to learn more about what motivates her as an athlete and as a parent. To learn more about Brianne, check out her social media: www.instagram.com/bjenner19
