Please note that while the ultimate goal is to hold MLMs accountable for harm, this is a KIND, SAFE SPACE to talk about MLMs - aka "Multi-Level Marketing" schemes.

My hope is that this conversation offers clarity, hope, and encouragement to anyone who's been part of, or negatively affected by, this sneaky, insidious system. Part research, part personal story, part recovery journey...this one is a biggie, folx.

Content advisory for this episode: Addiction, alcoholism, recovery, emotional abuse, and cults.

My guest today is Emily Lynn Paulson. She's a mom of 5, two-time TEDx speaker, founder of Sober Mom Squad, and the author of "Hey Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, & Other Lies behind Multi-Level Marketing".

We don't cover this story in the episode, but when I read it, it stopped me in my tracks: Emily was in the "million dollar club" in her MLM. One day, her MLM presented her with a "free" Lexus and held her up as an example of what could happen if you "worked hard enough".

What no one knew was that Emily had to pay for the down payment, taxes, and registration fees for the car herself. She had also paid to cater the party at the car dealership, as well as countless other costs to keep up appearances.

And shortly after driving away in her "free car," she was pulled over for a DUI.

This is Emily's story of recovery from alcohol, which led to her "amends" for - her words - the very great level of harm she did while inside an MLM.

I want to stress that if you or someone you love has been drawn in by an MLM, I really hope you stay open and stick around for this conversation. Even better, I hope you avail yourself of the recovery resources listed below.

Truth bomb: If you don't have somewhere great to send leads you attract as a result of PR, you're serving your EGO, not your business. Today's guest Nicole Rodrigues just celebrated NINE (!!) tears of owning her Public Relations agency, NRPR.

After almost a decade in the PR world, Nicole has seen it ALL and today, she's sharing: - What business owners need to do BEFORE they even think about PR - How to determine whether or not you're ready for press - Deciding whether to hire a PR pro versus doing outreach yourself - How to check your ego (this was TOUGH) and make sure you're seeking PR for the right reasons.

If you've ever been curious about how PR works, and how to get great press and podcast placements for yourself, this one is a must listen!

There's a lot of talk in the ether right now about jobs, the economy, inflation, and salary shifts. I wanted to invite expert Crystal Ware on the podcast today to talk about how to raise your worth; BOTH your net worth, AND your self worth!

Crystal shares actionable tips on how to approach a conversation about salary with a current or potential employer, how to negotiate a raise, and how to discern (with market research and actual data) how you should be pricing yourself/your skills.

This is NOT just for anyone who works at a company! Freelancers and solopreneurs can use this advice, too- especially if you feel that it's time to raise your rates.

Today's episode is about a topic I'm extremely familiar with: PROCRASTINATION. This conversation with Zoi Saad gave me a LOT of hope! By addressing unconscious negative beliefs that lurk below the surface, she helps people approach procrastination with a curious and loving mindset. By uncovering and addressing the root of the issue, we can lessen the impact of procrastination. Sign me up!

Zoi Saad is a Clinical Hypnotherapist & Rapid Transformational Therapist (RTT), cross-trained in Breathwork, Spinal Energetics & Reiki. She specializes in bringing your unconscious mind and your energy body into alignment with your vision for the future. In a previous life, Zoi spent years working in boutique finance firms and small creative agencies, giving her a very clear and real understanding of the pressures facing small businesses.

Her therapeutic journey began when she first experienced hypnotherapy herself, unlocking in her a 5-year healing journey that freed her from immense shame, fear, and self-doubt and allowed her to reconnect with her innate power.

Zoi's business partner Sophia couldn't join us as she was busy birthing a bebé, but I'd like to include her bio, regardless! Sophia Barros is a Performance and Leadership Coach with over 20 years of experience in management & small business.

Born into the world of entrepreneurship, hustle, and sacrifice were the culture Sophia grew up in. While juggling a 7-figure business and a post-grad in psychology, she spiraled into burnout. It wasn’t until she trained as a mindset coach and found mindfulness & other holistic health practices that she began healing her body from decades of neglect.

These days, Sophia is passionate about helping other business owners, operate from a space of sustainable high performance and balance. She's also a mum, who understands the pressures facing self-employed families.

Honesty Bomb, Magic Makers: I'm a recovering co-dependent person with anxiety...Over the past few months I switched from "regular" talk therapy to a new healing modality: Somatic Therapy, which focuses on healing the nervous system.

One of the tools I use regularly is breathwork, which is why I'm so excited to speak with Kate Crawford, a Certified Trauma-Informed Breathwork Practitioner (600+ hrs YACEP), and the founder and CEO of Korē Breathwork.

From Kate: Throughout my 15-year-long career as a highly empathic Physical Therapist, I witnessed first hand the undeniable connection between my clients stuck in pain + chronic illness and their unexpressed emotions. My signature breath technique, informed by my own healing journey and medical background, profoundly shifts the relationship that my beautifully sensitive clients have with themselves; clearing the held emotional trauma at the root of their discomfort and allowing them to move forward in a life of unapologetic alignment with who they truly are.

Breaking up (with problematic clients) is hard to do! In this episode, my guest – the delightful copywriter Brittany McBean – chats with me about the mental health toll needy or problematic clients can take on freelancers and service providers.

We're ALSO chatting about how she uses airtight contracts and a buttoned-up client onboarding system to make sure everyone's boundaries are respected and the best possible work is delivered.

Brittany McBean is a launch strategist & conversion copywriter who specializes in anti-sleazy, ethical, high-converting copy for online course creators & educators. She believes that Black lives matter now and always, marketing needs to help, not harm, and that it's our responsibility to use our platforms to build up, magnify, and support historically and systemically marginalized people. Through her research-based strategy and copy, she helps industry leaders like Rick Mulready, Brandi Mowles, and Lattice Hudson run multi 6 & 7 figure launches and funnels through clear messaging and ethical marketing practices. She'll talk just to hear herself talk, but you'll get the least nonsense out of her if you want to talk about ethical marketing, launch strategy, her journey with infertility & mental health, and open adoption. She believes in the Oxford comma and will fight you on it.

This is probably the most tender, authentic conversation we've had on the pod to date about mental health. Content advisory; Cee and I talk about difficult topics, dark nights of the soul, depression, and more. I REALLY hope you stay but if you need to skip this one to take care of yourself, we understand.

One of the most difficult things creative entrepreneurs face is JUDGEMENT; judegement we receive from others, from our social systems, from strangers on the internet...but perhaps, most difficultly, from OURSELVES.

In this episode, Cee and I talk about the bravery it takes to forge your own path, bet on yourself, and listen to intuition when you think you need help.

This is a kind, safe space- if you're feeling like you need emotional support, please don't hesitate to seek professional help, and also to seek support from this community. We've built a wonderful corner of the internet, Magic Makers. I'm stupid grateful for you.

Betsy "Bets" O'Brien cold DM'ed me months ago asking for advice on how to start her podcast. We met up for a blind friend date at a local coffee shop, and at the time, all she had was an idea...

Cut to 6 months later, Bets has consistently recorded and shared her podcast The Bets Life, growing a loyal listener base and talking about everything that affects Millenial women; from fashion to polycystic ovary syndrome (we both have it!).

In this conversation, we're talking about how to build a personal brand that is authentic to you while still being "professional," how to stop judging yourself when you're a beginner, and how to have the confidence you need to turn your ideas into a reality.

TW: Disordered eating & fertility

Meet Tristan Thibodeau, the founder of branding agency Wild Womn Haus. She helps people clarify what aspect of their business needs the most attention and helps them build a holistic brand strategy that’s focused on what * actually * works for them (so they can build a SUSTAINABLE business!).

During this conversation, my mind and my heart were blown right open. Trigger warning: We discuss disordered eating, topics surrounding fertility and whether or not to have children, and how often women who are trying to do big things in the business world are shamed for their personal decisions.

Bottom line, this conversation is about learning to trust your gut so you can create a life that is meaningful and full of purpose.

I know I say how excited I am about every episode, but literally from the bottom of my soul, this is one of the most important and exciting episodes for you to listen to.

My guest today is King Ashley Ann, she is a best-selling author, a social media strategist, an award-winning event designer, a consultant with more than 13 years experience, and an absolute powerhouse of a human being.

Ashley offers some of the most robust marketing education programs that I have ever seen in my life. Today, we are talking about how you can start making money from a small following on social media, and also how important it is for entrepreneurs to really get their minds right. She has helped over 700 people create 6- and 7-figure incomes. She is so smart. She is so fun. I am just so in love with this conversation.

In the end, we get into the meat of the marketing tactics, but overall, her story is just so inspiring.

If you have any doubts that mental health doesn’t factor into your financial success or the sense of feeling fulfilled in your work, this conversation is going to change your mind.

Ashley calls herself a “value bomber” and it is true. This episode is PACKED full of value!

One year ago I was…

  • RAW from a divorce-level breakup with my partner of 3.5 years, sleeping in my childhood bedroom with zero clue what was next.
  • GRIEVING a multitude of losses; loss of my entire support system after leaving my home of 7 years in LA, loss of my identity as an actress/entertainment professional, loss of my relationship, loss of my living situation, loss of a future I’d imagined in detail but that was now never going to happen.
  • Deep in THERAPY and just beginning to explore healing from CO-DEPENDENCY
  • DESPERATE for stability, roots, and a routine that served my higher purpose

Slowly - SO slowly - I made one aligned decision after another and re-built my life…

  • I decided where I wanted to live (Santa Barbara!) and moved there totally blind JUST because I wanted to
  • I learned how to set BOUNDARIES and hold them (after a lifetime of people pleasing)
  • I dug deep and got honest about why certain PATTERNS seem to repeat themselves in my life and began to heal the wounds that feed those patterns
  • I invested in FRIENDSHIPS (and got honest about which of my existing friendships were serving me and which ones I was ready to let go of)
  • I tapped back into my sense of creativity and PLAY!
  • And I tried DATING (with intention!) for the first time in my whole life.

I am still very much in the building phase of this new existence. I have many areas that continue to challenge me as well as new developments I’m beyond excited about.

What I most want to say right now as we complete one full year of Find Your Magic is THANK YOU.

Thank you from the bottom of my being for showing up for these conversations week after week. Thank you for allowing me into your home, and hopefully your heart, as I attempt to smooth the way for entrepreneurs who want to share their gifts with the world.

I’m so stinkin’ proud to have cultivated this corner of the internet filled with vibrant ideas, people, and conversations that lift us up! Here’s to all the magic we've made together, and all the magic yet to come.

I love you,

Kelsey

Today I am interviewing my PR agent, Lydia Bagarozza. Lydia helps purpose-driven brands expand their audience, grow their impact, gain credibility and trust — and secure press opportunities organically. She is passionate about working with mentors, consultants, and environmentally conscious brands, and finds it her absolute mission to help them leave behind a legacy on this planet.

Her diverse professional background includes working on PR campaigns for brands in the coaching, wellness, beauty, grooming, lifestyle, music, and fashion space. We start off this conversation with her background of doing PR in the music industry and ultimately getting burnt out – we have a lot of similarities here! After dealing with some health ailments, she started her journey to self-discovery and realized her jobs made her feel undervalued.

For years I have done my own press and outreach to figure out how to be featured as a speaker for events, be on podcasts, and even be a guest writer on other people’s blogs. Although it was working out, I knew I was ready to level up! I found Lydia because she pitched one of her clients (The Sensual Chef) to be on my podcast, and based on her pitch I immediately knew I needed to learn more about her.

With Lydia’s hard work, I have not only seen results already, but really the main benefit I have found is having a new point of entry to my business through media by building credibility. It’s all about being a thought leader in your industry!

My guest is Efia Sulter and she shares her 5 step manifestation framework on how to have a life of freedom, passion, love, purpose, and all of these things that make you want to leap out of bed in the morning. She coaches ambitious people to confidently manifest their desires and stop playing small

I know when you hear the word manifestation, you may just think of people telling you to journal and make a vision board which may make you want to scream off a balcony, but let me assure you that this is NOT what this conversation is!

Efia is coming from manifestation from a very grounded place. She herself went through a really tough time, and she is a living example of how manifesting your desires can work in your real life. She now has a lucrative coaching business, a podcast, courses, and manifests beautiful trips.

I am inspired by not only the life she shows online but also the inner work that she has done before and behind the scenes of what she has manifested. We dive into getting beyond limiting beliefs, deciding our values, choosing what we want to manifest, and we walk though her VIBES framework for manifestation.

This episode is literally packed with magic!

Hey Magic Makers!

Let’s keep Pride month going by hearing more stories from our friends in the queer community! Today I am speaking with Georgia Clark, a novelist, performer, screenwriter, and the host and founder of a popular storytelling night called Generation Women in New York City. She has an amazing queer romance novel called “Island Time” coming out tomorrow, June 14, 2022.

Georgia specializes in romcom, which in my personal opinion, is a very under-appreciated genre!

This conversation is all about how to make a living AND a life as a creative entrepreneur, the rollercoaster it can be to work on a long term project, like a novel, the journey she has been on, and all of the ways we can make money to support our art, rather than putting pressure on our art to make us money.

So while you are listening, ask yourself, why are you drawn to a certain creative pursuit? Usually it is about more than just a job. Usually it is about seeking happiness and passion. In this day and age, we often only see people’s highlight reels on life, not the other things they do to live and work. Creative people often cobble together things that attract money to fund their art!

Happy Pride Month, magic makers! I’m so honored to welcome my childhood friend, Dr. Katie Schlein Valadez to the podcast today to talk about how we can use the body as an entry point to heal deeper emotional and psychological issues.

Katie is a chiropractor and business owner in San Diego, CA. She herself is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and she’s created a wonderful, safe and open place for any and all people seeking healing. In this conversation, Katie generously shared insights into how families in the gay community have wildly different experiences that their cis-hetero- counterparts when it comes to healing and finding safe places.

Because Katie has so much experience as a holistic health practitioner, I asked her to share how emotional and psychological trauma are stored in our bodies. She’s an expert at unpacking how we can hold onto trauma and “dis-ease” in our bodies - I was seriously mind blown when she started describing some of the physical symptoms and side effects of stress!

More than anything, Dr. Katie believes that health is not a destination but a journey. By providing support and addressing her practice members’ needs, she is committed to helping families access their potential to reach their health goals. She chose pediatric and prenatal care as her specialty to help change the paradigm and how kids view health.

Hey Magic Makers!

It's never too late. It's never too late to create success, financial freedom, and lift up those around us.

Today’s conversation is truly mind blowing. My guest today is Leslie Kuster. She is in her mid 60’s now, but at age 55 she took her clothing brand to 50K to mult. 7 figures. In the entrepreneurial world, there can be a toxic way we look at money, but this episode really shows that we should not play small.

Leslie took small actions towards a bigger goal, and changed the way she thought about herself and in just one year, grew her business to multiple 7 figures.

What really struck me about his conversation is the conversation about age and death, and the feeling like it is “too late”, but also unpacking the “princess in the tower syndrome”

So if you have a yearning thought that life can be better, or should be better, just know that it is possible for you. You can reach everything that your heart desires.

I am truly humbled and grateful that my friend Julie Hassett generously agreed to come on the podcast to talk about her recent ADHD diagnosis.

Julie is a union makeup artist based out of Los Angeles, with a background in Psychology. She and I met when she was Head Makeup Artist on the set of Netflix’s “Zac and Mia” (back in my actress days!) and we became immediate friends. Beyond her work in film and Television, Julie has been certified in energy healing practices and has been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for 16 years. She’s also a small business owner who vocally shares her struggles with anxiety, depression, ADHD and PTSD.

Today we’re focusing our conversation on ADHD, and particularly how ADHD manifests in women. (Heads up: if you consider yourself a creative entrepreneur, I’m betting a LOT of this will resonate with you- it sure resonated for me!). ADHD has traditionally remained underdiagnosed in women, and many confusing feelings can come up for those of us who receive an ADHD diagnosis later in life.

Julie wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until she was 35, but once she understood how many of her frustrations were due to the way her brain functioned, it was incredibly freeing! In this episode we get into a lot of fascinating ADHD symptoms like executive dysfunction, body doubling, hyperfixation, time blindness and ways that Julie has been able to cope with it.

Disclaimer: Neither my guest Julie Hassett, nor myself, are licesnced mental health care providers. If anything resonates with you in this episode, we strongly urge you to speak with a mental health professional for support!

HEADS UP: this conversation will make you question the way you use social media and your phone!

May is mental health awareness month, and to celebrate I wanted to take a deeper dive into everyday things we do that we can change to improve our mental health. This week is a topic that- full disclosure- I’ve been nervous to talk about! (Because if I’m honest, I could definitely have a healthier relationship with social media)...

Today I am speaking with comedian, writer, and digital wellness advocate Dan Max Fox about social media and phone addiction. Dan is not only one of the funniest people I know, but he also has an incredible appetite and curiosity for improving daily life. He mindfully takes time to observe things as they are, comment on them, and figure out ways to make them better.

In this conversation, we talk about Dan’s work with a company called Light Phone, a minimalistic phone company, and his INCREDIBLE children's book, “Zoey! Put Down Your Phone” which teaches children how to get their heads out of the digital cloud, and back into real life connections

This episode in some ways is tough because as a digital entrepreneur, social media is a tool but there is definitely a fine line between beneficial time, and numbed out wasted time.

Today we’re talking about the importance of PLAY! My guest today is counselor, play therapist, and drama therapist Katie Lear. She helps preteens deal with anxiety, OCD, depression and grief. Inspired at the start of the pandemic to reach more children, she expanded her 1:1 client work to include an online course, an activity book, and “Young Dragonslayers”, an online, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D)-based social skills club she co-founded with actor Zachery Byrd.

Katie and I talk about the power of storytelling for mental health, and how she uses D&D to help kids (and ourselves) explore identity, practice social skills, and form friendships.

We also go into Katie’s own struggle with perfectionism; when she finally embraced consistent, ok work over waiting for some mythical flash of brilliance, everything changed.

Did you know May is mental health awareness month, Magic Makers?? To celebrate, I wanted to dive deeper into a few areas of mental health that I didn't know very much about. I wanted to bring in amazing experts with first-hand experience on subjects that I know need more light shed on them, and that is how I met Amanda Nicholson!

Amanda is a special Education teacher-turned-copywriter and first-time mom! She’s incredibly passionate about making the world a more equitable place, and yet when it came time to take her first maternity leave she found herself faced with extreme burnout and unable to emotionally re-invest in her work.

We talk about how unexpected mental health challenges that came post-partum, like understanding “mom” as a role, vs. “mom” as an identity.

We also talk about how changing hormones affected her personally AND professionally- this is valuable stuff even if you’re not going through biological changes related to becoming a mother.

Amanda made the decision to leave her 9-5 and become an entrepreneur so she could spend more time with her daughter, and work on her personal creative clock, rather than having to adhere to a traditionally rigid “day job” schedule.

If you’re feeling burnt out or at all wondering if your hormones are affecting your mental health, you’ll find value in this conversation!

I also want to acknowledge that this one might be tough to listen to if you’re facing any issues trying to conceive or complicated feelings around becoming a mom. Just a heads up in case you need to sit this one out - I see you, I love you (I am you).

Alrighty, Magic Makers- welcome to the second episode in my solo series where I get into the nitty gritty of how to build the business of your dreams.

Solo Series Episode 1 (Find Your Magic ep. 30 published on 2/21/22) covered my 5 step process to naming a brand or business. Picking the right name can have a HUGE impact on your success later down the line (hello avoiding trademark infringement lawsuits!), so make sure you give that a listen.

Today’s episode takes a deep dive into how to structure your website (or how to re-structure it, even if you have one). We’re talking about SEO (search engine optimization), what pages you absolutely need, what bonus pages are smart to create, plus integrations like Google Analytics, Email platforms, and social media.

Here are links to the blog posts I reference in the episode on email marketing:

How to start & build an email list:

https://kelseyformost.com/blog/howtostartandbuildanemaillist/

Why I switched from Mailchimp to Kajabi to send emails:

https://kelseyformost.com/blog/why-i-switched-from-mailchimp-to-kajabi/

Also, here’s the “Freebies” page I created to improve my SEO so you can see an example:

https://kelseyformost.com/freebies

And my FAQ page so you can see an example:

https://kelseyformost.com/faq

And because I’m nice, here’s the list of necessary webpages you need to launch:

  • Home
  • About
  • Products/Services Page
  • Contact

2nd Tier web pages that are super helpful but not essential for launch

  • Blog
  • FAQ
  • Freebies

Finally, here’s some basic tech that need to be connected on your website to set you up for success:

  • Email marketing platform (I use Kajabi)
  • Google Analytics
  • Your social media profiles

Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Find Your Magic! If you have questions about how to build a website, please reach out to me at hello@kelseyformost.com, I truly do reply to all my messages!

The most important thing to remember is: YOU’VE GOT THIS! Building a website takes time, patience, and in my experience, wine. I’m here to help!

Hey Magic Maker!

I am here today to tell you that you are NOT crazy about having conversations with yourself.

In today’s episode, I am speaking with a firecracker of a human, Vasavi Kumar. Vasavi is a therapist + Former TV Host turned Visibility and Camera Confidence Coach, Through her Real Rich membership community and 8-week Camera Confident Accelerator program, she helps thought leaders and experts feel more confident on camera and clear in their creative process. She’s been featured in the Wall Street Journal, FOX, VH1, and was a regular on NBC’s Kansas City Live as the “Keepin’ It Real” guru.

This conversation goes in so many different ways. We talk about some of our deepest darkest secrets, her journey to sobriety, but we laugh our butts off about acting along the way.

This episode is for you if you want to invite more fun into your life. A lot of us lose the childlike curiosity that we lose on our “journey to success”.

The core of this conversation is true confidence. Confidence can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Confidence can be quiet. It can be a deep inner knowing that you are going to be okay and have your own back. Confidence can be willingness and excitement to find the different sides of yourself and invite it into the open.

We all have 3 parts of ourselves: the firefighter, the manager, and the exiled.

Are you ready to get a little sensual today? No, not necessarily in the bedroom- but rather sensual as in getting into all our SENSES!

I absolutely loved this conversation with “Sensual Chef” Kiele-Jael Stanton on how we can better nourish ourselves, body, and soul.

Kiele is a certified Health-Supportive Chef, Wellness Culinary Coach, and the founder of Kiele Jael Wellness. Her approach takes a new spin on traditional food wisdom, where she combines her love of food education, cooking, wellness, self-care, and nutrition, into one delicious experience that teaches women how to take care of themselves through nourishment!

Kiele is well-versed in Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and other ancient food practices. She feels that food is meant to be experienced sensually — by connecting to ourselves through the four senses (sight, taste, touch & smell), nature (where it’s grown), energetically, and seen as the ultimate self-care practice.

Kiele came from a fast-paced, high-power fashion career where she was designing handbags in NYC. Her body began to tell her that she was no longer living in alignment with her purpose. When she discovered she had a severe allergic reaction to Nickel, she went on this path to better herself and find the path to physical wellness and health - but also pave her own path and create a career that supported the new lifestyle she knew she was missing.

We talk about the 5 flavors to heal your body and for balance - fire, earth, wood, water, and metal - you need all of these elements to create balance in your life.

Kelsey’s Avocado Chocolate Mousse Recipe!
3 ripe medium avocados
½ cup cocoa powder
½ cup maple syrup
¼ tsp salt

Blend ingredients in a food processor or blender until thoroughly combined into a smooth, mousse consistency. Serve chilled. I like to add a sprinkle of Maldon salt and some fresh raspberries on top for texture and tartness!

Friendly reminder, Magic Maker: You should be having FUN in your business!

In today’s episode, I speak with Virtual Assistant Natalie Rose about the most common tasks entrepreneurs struggle with, and the most common things that burn business owners out.

It's so valuable to hear that we’re not alone when it comes to business struggles. Because- and I hate admitting this- not everything is in our zone of genius! Hiring help is one of the fastest ways to grow and infuse the fun back into being a business owner.

As entrepreneurs we can get so focused on profits, and spending money on help may seem counterintuitive, but it’s not! It’s actually strategic and smart to hire someone to take the tasks you hate off your plate.

A good indicator that you as a business owner are ready to hire someone to help you with your business is finding the things in your business that do not bring you joy! For example, Natalie doesn’t like doing her own email management, so that’s a great indicator it’s time to outsource that task to a “rockstar” in that area.

If we lose ourselves and play small in the busy work, we may feel safe, but we can totally use our time in a better way. Again: Running your business should be fun!

So, Magic Maker, if you dread doing something consider this your permission slip to hire someone who LOVES doing it!

In this conversation, Taylor shares what he wishes he and his brothers had done when they were first starting. We talk about what the “tipping point” was for them to go “all in” on their business, develop a unique creative voice, and attract those dream, multi-million dollar clients.

This episode has so much amazing advice, like how to drum up word-of-mouth referrals, and how you can grow a successful business without much investment capital if you hone in on your unique gifts.

By surrounding themselves with people who were aligned with their goals, Taylor and his brothers have grown a zero-budget film crew into a lucrative full-out production business.

Are you a filmmaker or are you hoping to learn more about potentially getting into that field? Don’t miss Taylor’s handbook and online course linked below!

Welcome to my new “Solo Series” where I’m gonna give you a quick download on ONE subject, tip, or piece of advice that truly moved the needle for me in my life or business. I’m thinking I’ll do one of these per month if you guys like them...If you DO want to see more episodes like this, leave this show a positive review!

OK now let’s get into the good stuff… today I’m sharing something that really is the first step of turning a business idea into a reality and that is: NAMING YOUR BRAND!

Here’s the thing; I’ve seen so many entrepreneurs make the mistake of picking the wrong brand name and having to completely re-do everything a year later. Let’s avoid that drama and stack the deck with some aces, shall we?

When naming your brand, you want to make sure it’s CORAL:

Clear

Open

Relevant

Available

Loved

Clear- it’s clear what you’re offering AND it’s easy to spell/say. It should be unique, but easy to remember.

Open- don’t box yourself in too much. Keep in mind you’ll want to expand your offers one day.

Relevant- What is your ideal customer already looking for? What’s relevant to her and the problem she’s trying to solve?

Available- This is the BIG one! Before you get too excited making a logo and choosing colors and all that jazz, you need to make sure your brand name is available for use. That means the domain name, social media handles, and legal trademark are available for you to claim or purchase.

Search if the domain name is available / purchase your domain via my Bluehost affiliate link here - it supports this podcast AND it’s the tool I’ve used for over 15 (!!) years:

https://www.bluehost.com/track/keformost/ Loved- This is super important, you want to LOVE your brand! You’re gonna be saying it a LOT and you need to stay consistent.

I hope you love this episode and that it helps you and inspires you as you choose your brand name! If you have any questions you can always DM me @kelsey.writes on Instagram. And - ahem- if you got something out of this and are moved to leave a review, I’d really appreciate it!

XOXO, Kelsey

At 26, Bryan Reeves was a Captain in the world’s most powerful Air Force with money, acclaim, and plenty of women who were interested in being his partner… yet he was miserable, and - his words- he sucked at intimacy.

After losing everything, traveling the world, building a multi-million dollar business, and losing everything again, Bryan started doing some deep internal work on why he never quite felt like “enough” and how his behavior and patterns were impacting his chosen romantic partners.

Today, after having triumphed through multiple dark nights of the soul, Bryan helps men, women, and couples create thriving lives and intimate relationships. His blog about men and relationships has gone viral multiple times over, and his work has helped thousands upon thousands of people create and call in healthy, fulfilling relationships…

…which is why I wanted to talk to him this Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is a, shall we say, “complicated” holiday for me. Without getting too in the weeds of my personal experience, I’ll just say that this is my first Valentine’s Day single in over a decade and it’s forcing me to unpack a LOT of deeply rooted beliefs I didn’t want to acknowledge I had around being in a relationship and self worth.

As women, we’re often given the message that we need to make ourselves attractive so we can be worthy enough to be “chosen”. That we’re supposed to stay small and convenient so as not to rock the boat. That we are the keepers of harmony in the home, and that emotions- especially “negative” emotions like sadness, stress, or grief - upset that harmony.

In this episode, Bryan and I dive deep into gender roles, how men and women experience overwhelmingly similar patterns when it comes to their relationships (of course there’s room for nuance but most people, when it comes down to it, have really similar roadblocks), and how we can start to break those patterns and start inviting healthier, more fulfilling relationships into our lives.

This is deep work, Magic Makers. I’m stupidly proud of you for wanting to wade into the deep end with me. Come on in, the water’s fine.

Did you know that the greatest indicator of happiness is the quality of our female friendships? But how do we make friends as an adult? How can we deepen the friendships we already have? Why don’t friends go to couples therapy when things start to fizzle?? Do indicators of romantic compatibility like love languages and attachment styles translate to our friendships????

Lucky for you I have my LITERAL BEST FRIEND IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, Desi Domo, on Find Your Magic to talk about all things FRIENDSHIP!

Desi and I met in our college’s theater program back in 2005 and our friendship deepened into something truly special over those four years. We both moved to New York City to pursue careers in the arts, and she’s been a constant source of support, love, kindness, and laughter for me ever since.

My deepest wish for everyone is for them to know this kind of friendship; a deep connection without judgement where you can show up exactly as you are (and laugh a LOT in the process).

Join Desi and me as we talk about the importance of friendship in advance of Valentine’s Day- because sometimes the love of your life isn’t necessarily your romantic partner…sometimes it’s your best friend. And your friendships deserve the same amount of care, love, and energy as your romantic life!

Raise your hand if this sounds familiar: You get an idea and go 0 - 100, immediately hitting the ground running. You visualize the final result, plan the marketing, and start building the brand… and then you get overwhelmed and get burnt out and let the dream die when it’s 40% of the way there. (Spoiler alert: I’m raising my hand! There is a feeling of safety when we have an “epic” plan, and playing it safe feels unfulfilling, but that is when burnout happens.

This episode has been a long time coming- I’m so honored to welcome one of my favorite Instagram follows, business owner, coach, and fellow spiritual seeker Noé Khalfa to Find Your Magic.

Before founding his company Worth The Journey, a small business agency specializing in business coaching and website design, Noé software engineered his butt off at Fortune 500 companies including Microsoft and F5 Networks. Burned out from the workload, and with a desire to do something that made a bigger impact, Noé left the corporate grind to become a business coach focusing on wellness and heart-centered businesses. He's an avid dancer, meditator, yoga practitioner, and mental health advocate, and believes wellness work is helping truly change the world.

This conversation is perfect for you if you are just starting out in your business or you are at a place if you realize you might need to pivot in your business.

Noé really “demystifies” the marketing talk that a lot of us hear in the creative field and teaches us how to replace fear with positive self talk that gets us to actually move forward.

Enjoy, Magic Makers! Have an idea for an episode or know someone I should feature? Reach out to me at hello@kelseyformost.com

I bet I'm not alone when I say I'm a little sick of the word 'burnout' right now (one could even say I was BURNT OUT hearing the word!)

HOWEVER! After personally experiencing burnout in a big way this December, I wanted to talk with an expert about what burnout actually is, how we can heal from it, and how we can prevent it in the first place.

This led me to today's guest, Nikole Stanfield, owner of “My Intuition Coach.” She specializes in helping entrepreneurs, freelancers, and anyone in business for themselves, identify, prevent, or treat burnout by listening to your intuition and living with intention.

The greatest thing about this episode is that Nikole drops actually amazing, valuable, and actional ways to form new habits that will heal you from that feeling of burnout!

When Nikole was looking for help with her own mental health struggle, she couldn't find anyone specializing in burnout for entrepreneurs. This caused her to walk away from her business (and sadly lose money), in order to completely reset. Entrepreneurial culture is commonly known for a culture of constant hustle. Working hard, making money, wanting more money, and basically feeling like you are on a hustle “treadmill”...

Nikole recommends the first step to avoid burnout is just starting just with taking your lunch. Start with small changes. She also shares tips on how to say no! Sometimes we all need the reminder that “no.” is a complete sentence.

Also can I just say she dropped this MAGIC BOMB of a playlist in this episode so we hunted it down to include it here for you!

If I never hear the term “Starving Artist” again, I will be a very happy person!

In this episode, I speak with concert pianist Emile Pandolfi about how he's built a lucrative lifelong career as a musician.

If you are stuck in a creative rut, or are worried about making enough from your creative endeavors, this is the episode for you.

As a creative, it can be so easy to critique ourselves so much that we end up taking the joy out of what we once loved! We talk about how creative people can find ways to make money from their art without putting so much pressure on it that it becomes uninspiring/un-fun.

Emile has enjoyed a successful career in the area of solo piano "commercial" music for the past 35 years. He has recorded 30 albums which sold 4.5 million units, (before CDs became dinosaurs) and he has surpassed 750 million streams on the various platforms. He continues to do live concerts and records his signature arrangements of well-known pop songs from movies, musicals, and the American Songbook.

This week I want to challenge you to think of all the different ways you consume art, in all its form. If you want to become more artistic, understand what inspires you and what you enjoy.

Happy new year magic makers!!

Can you believe it is 2022? This year, I challenge you all to share your voice more than ever before.
Today’s topic is about Podcasting, but more than just that… It’s about the confidence to stop silencing yourself and sharing your voice with the world.

When you google “How To Start A Podcast” can be so overwhelming. The first thing that you should do when you think about starting a podcast is sitting down and talking (out loud!) about what you want your message, topics, and goals to be. Then from there, you can design the podcast.

Finding your voice isn’t just about business, it is about finding who you are as a person. You don’t know who needs to hear your story, so just start the podcast. The world is a better place when we listen to each other.

That's why I invited my podcast producer, Hayleigh Hayhurst to be a guest on the podcast today! Hayleigh is the owner of Espresso Podcast Production, a full-service podcast agency specializing in editing, marketing, and strategy. She helps business owners increase their revenue by strengthening their podcast strategy. Hayleigh encourages people just to start their podcasts. Whether they have a producer or just friends who hold them accountable, you just need to do it.

Hayleigh started her podcast journey in college where she co-hosted a Pro Wrestling Podcast called Wrestling Winedown with her friend Lo. After college, she planned on moving to Cambodia with the Peace Corps to teach English, but then COVID hit and she was delayed. At that point, she decided to move to Seattle and start her podcast editing and coaching business.

Hayleigh shares so much free content on her Instagram (@espressopodcastproduction) and in her Facebook Group, “Espresso Growth - for Podcasters, Entrepreneurs, and Industry Leaders.”

Happy Holiday's Magic Makers!

There are so many crazy and fun things about this holiday season. I am an introvert who loves people, but do not loveee large gatherings!

My life has changed a lot this year, and I find myself often anxious about the unknown. I moved from Seattle to San Diego after a breakup, and now moved to Santa Barbara, where I knew absolutely no one!

In a new city, I wanted to meet new like-minded people and headed to Instagram to look for local meetups I found an organization called “The Communal Table” which is SMALL Gatherings for women combining food & conversation.

I wanted to take a moment to talk to you about rest and self-care! Not only about just why you need rest, but also HOW to rest without feeling guilty! Take some time for yourself this season magic maker because that’s when the real magic happens.

This podcast has transformed so much since we launched in August, and I feel so honored to be a part of your life. If you feel so inclined to, please leave me a review so more people can find this podcast and prioritize their mental health in their business!

Whether you yourself are experiencing grief, or you're looking for ways to support someone who is- I am SO deeply grateful you're here.

Before I get into the episode, here's the blog post I said I'd write that sums up the 10 ways you can support someone who's experiencing grief (or send this blog post if YOU're the one grieving and someone says, "let me know if there's anything I can do"):

https://kelseyformost.com/blog/10-ways-to-support-a-grieving-friend/

Now for today's episode! My guest today is Sadie Banks, the owner, and creator of Good Greif Journals. She started her business after she experienced and saw a topic that has touched every single one of us at some point in our lives: grief.

She started in 2018 when she and her husband were struggling with infertility. Her plan was to go to college, get married, have the white picket fence, have babies, and be a stay-at-home mom. But it was not working, she was not able to get pregnant and spiraled down into a deep and dark place.

The unique and most amazing part of the good grief journals, Sadie actually interviews hundreds of women on the topic and runs it by a sensitivity reader, so the journals are extra helpful and not triggering!

If you yourself have not experienced grief, we also talk about how we can help our friends and family who have experienced grief.

We cover 10 things for you to do when you experience grief. People always offer to help when people are experiencing grief, and when you are in the thick of it, the last thing you want to think about is asking for help! I put these all in a blog post on my website, kelseyformost.com/blog

We give you ideas for boundaries, exit strategies for awkward family functions, and how to create your own holiday magic, even if your home looks different than how you imagined this holiday.

Her grief journals include topics like (General) Grief, Anxiety, Infertility, IVF, Miscarriage, Pregnancy, Motherhood, and More!

Did you know you already have a kickass assistant who's ready & willing to work for you, attract and qualify leads, and get paying customers for you 24/7? Meet: your website. (This episode is definitely for you if you're feeling burnt out and could use some help taking the pressure off)

My guest today is small business web designer (and new momma!) Rebekah Read. Bekah finds joy in the process of discovering the person behind the brand and making them feel known. Her goal and deepest desire is to be her client's biggest cheerleader in their craft and provide them with a community of supporters.

I wanted Rebekah on my podcast not only because she is a fantastic person, but also because she approaches web design by helping her clients feel truly and deeply seen (the same way I approach copywriting!). She never wants anyone to feel the overwhelm of having to DIY everything.

She is an amazing designer (couch-cough she actually designed my current website!) and she offers tons of incredible educational resources. One of my favorite freebies that she offers is an SEO checklist- it's truly amazing!!

In this episode, we talk about the guilt and anxiety that creatives may have with a service-based business. We also dive into how to build a work process that builds your cup, so you can leave room for creativity and rest since that is the only way you will put your best self out into the world.

Every business has a deep meaning behind why it is starting, and Rebekah loves finding that reason and bringing it to life on a website. If you need a new website or are SO over your current website, Rebekah shares some tips of what to do, what to avoid, and things to remember.

If you ever feel like you are not enough, create a note on your phone with all the compliments your clients have given you. This is so common and makes it much easier to remind yourself that YOU are enough! There will be times in your business where you want to give up, but giving ourselves strategies to power through and stay positive will help us in the long run!

Y'all your ears are about to be BLESSED by actress, poet, artist, and educator (& my BFF!!) Candance Nicholas Lippman.

Listen...Candance is my best freaking friend so this conversation goes DEEP. You might remember Candace from the original YouTube version of "Find Your Magic"- she was my first ever guest and we're having this conversation almost three years later. In that time Candace went through a split from her longtime partner, the death of her grandmother, and struggles with mental health. She ALSO has had more career and personal success than ever before, landing roles on Freeform's "Good Trouble", Grey's Anatomy, and she's now a series regular (that's the STAR for non-showbiz folk) on "Blingspotting" on Starz.

This conversation definitely leans more to the mental health side of things. I know we show up for conversations like these on podcasts, but too often we pass over the mental health side of advice.

Heads up: Candace and I talk openly about faith, and it would mean a lot if you could stay open-hearted and open-minded. Everyone’s faith is different and we need to hear other perspectives to make sure the world is a beautiful, better, more accepting place.

Mental health affects all parts of our lives and business, so that is why I threw my outline of what I thought this episode was going to be out the window.

Instead of talking about working hard, we talk about the bravery it takes to share a story, the beauty of opening a door so other people can follow you and share their story and their trauma, how to maintain faith that you are on your path, and how to stay inspired and strong in your purpose.

When you are praying for the rain- aka a new job, new opportunities, etc, there will always be “mud” that comes along with the good. There is no achievement that will truly make you a happy person, being completely confident will make you a happy person.

So many people are buried with their ideas. They never fulfill them, it gets buried with us. So many unfulfilled dreams are buried with people who either never found their purpose or gave up. For herself, she had so many No’s before she got the Yes, but no one would have known that.

We talk about how to support each other, even if we don’t understand each other. Only through hearing the stories of other people in other communities can we understand how to support those communities.

You don’t have to be famous to change lives. Leave your legacy and impact others' lives, because you never know how far your reach is!

I’m feeling all warm and fuzzy today because jeez November is the best; I mean, it kicks off with Halloween (my favorite holiday), then goes right into my birthday (have you listened to my “11:11” birthday episode yet?) but then the holiday season kicks off! And with it, the official green light to slow down at work and start making (and eating!) all of the yummy holiday treats.

Since it’s Thanksgiving this week, I thought I’d bring on the person best qualified to talk to us about how food can deeply affect us; from our mood to our productivity to our energy levels, what we take into our body truly makes such a difference. That’s why I’m so excited to be talking to my dear friend from middle school and high school (!!!) Lindsay Surowitz. Lindsay is a certified nutritionist and founder of WeekNight Bite, a blog where nutrition, easy recipes, and wellness tips come together to inspire you to live a healthy, balanced life.

Lindsay started her blog in 2012 just for fun, and since then has built an incredible company that helps others live healthier lives by making small changes so habits stick. Lindsay teaches much more than just what you should be eating to be healthy, but also the gut-brain connection. What you put into your body can really affect your mental health.

I want to stress that this conversation is NOT about weight loss, it’s about leveraging what you eat to balance your mood, make you more creative, and living healthier in general. It’s also about giving yourself autonomy over your body and freedom to ENJOY food and the experience of eating.

In this episode, Lindsay also opens up to what it’s like to be a new mom and an entrepreneur, and all of the imposter syndrome she has experienced. It is so important to carve out time for yourself, where you can reconnect with yourself, your passions, and your goals.

When Lindsay became a mom, naturally she had to shift her business to care for her son. She shares some of her wisdom on this topic. Her mom takes care of the baby once a week and she feels like herself again. Being a mom is work, and put a job on top of that? It is hard to manage your baby and business baby! This balance does not need to be a 50/50, Lindsey shares her focus is usually 90% baby, 10% business. And this is okay!

The most important thing to Lindsay is showing her son what it looks like to pursue a passion.

Magic makers… If you have a magic little spark in you that you think you may know what you want to do, try it! Try it until you find what you actually love and until the right thing sticks. It is okay if you fail 10 times before you land on what you want to do!

Ever felt guilt (or even shame) about self care? "Hustle culture" has us believing that if we're not busy, we're not worthy.

Today's conversation is with marketing expert Ana Thorsdottir about work-life balance. As someone who works in creator marketing for Instagram, Ana is no stranger to high stakes work environments!

Ana started off her career in PR working with A-list celebrities at an agency, then started working as the head of Influencer marketing at MediaCom with some of the biggest brands out there. Now, she's working for Instagram on the EMEA Creator marketing team (so yeah, she knows her sh*t).

Besides being an all-around lovely human, Ana identifies as a high achiever who loves to work in a fast-paced environment, and yet she learned to prioritize herself when it comes to her mental health. She knows that if she does not slow down and take care of herself internally, she will not perform well at work.

But this episode is about more than the "usual suspects" of self care...we're talking about physical health and autoimmune conditions that are triggered by stress. It's taken Ana 20+ years to talk about her autoimmune condition, and I'm honored that she chose Find Your Magic as a safe space to share her truth. She recently started talking more openly about her health journey so she can help not only herself heal, but also help others go through what they are going through.

It's often difficult to talk about chronic health conditions in the workplace because of the fear of judgment. But as we say in this episode, if your team judges you and does not understand, it may be time to find a new team.

Don't be afraid to lead, even when you are a team of one! Every time you choose to acknowledge how you feel and take time for yourself, you are showing yourself that it is okay to take a break. It takes time to rewire those neurons. It is no small potatoes to rewire this thinking, but it is SO important to acknowledge it!

Burnout can be a serious health issue. If you don’t take care of yourself regularly and continue to push it off, your body basically puts on its check engine light and MAKES you deal with it.

And now for something completely different...How often do you REALLY stop and take stock of what you've accomplished in the last weeks, months, or year? Do you often find yourself fixated on what you DON'T have or what hasn't happened for you yet? Does it feel "silly" or strange to start naming the things you're proud of?

I've decided to use this week's "Find Your Magic" episode to put my money where my mouth is and do just that: name things I'm proud of. I won't lie, it felt strange at first to sit down and think about the hard-won lessons, the accomplishments from months ago that I'd kinda forgotten about, the wins small and big. But it's my birthday this week and there's really nothin' like a birthday to make you reflect on the past year of your life. And geez was this one wild.

This was a year of extreme transformation...And lemme tell ya, transformation years are effing hard. But you know what? They also have the greatest potential to accelerate our growth and happiness.

So in the hopes that my hard-earned wisdom from this year helps YOU accelerate YOUR growth and happiness, I've decided to share 11 lessons and 11 "wins" from this - the craziest year of my life.

Some of them are business-related (How to set up passive income! Speaking at the biggest national conferences! The case for creating digital products!) and some of them are personal (Learning to be okay with not being inspired 100% of the time! How to break up with your inner critic to form a better relationship with yourself! How to set up a mental health routine that works for you!).

So, with that, I hope you enjoy this solo episode where I'm talkin' to you guys human to human. I appreciate the opportunity to be more vulnerable, more open, and to tell some stories I have never shared.

As always, I hope you take what you hear today and feel inspired to go out there and find your magic.

Hey Magic Makers!

The (not-so-well-kept) secret is out! Confidence is the key ingredient to getting everything you want in life.

Today is all about confidence on camera! My guest, Meg Marie McMillan is a very successful branding photographer who specializes in coaching her clients on confidence. She wants her clients to build a business and a life that they are wildly obsessed with.

This episode is for you if you know you need new branding photos, are revamping your personal brand, and don’t know where to start.

If you are anything like me, when you get behind the camera you mask your true self because you are worried about how you look. This episode is full of tips on how to show up confidently and minimize anxiety when you are in front of the camera or showing up for a photoshoot.

Meg Marie McMillan is a mom, world traveler, margarita lover, and brand photographer in San Diego who’s empowered over 300 heart-centered entrepreneurs to feel confident AF on camera.

When she’s not behind the camera, Meg loves coaching other brand photographers who want to build their own thriving photography business! Meg went from having 27 jobs, 1 failed business, and quitting college, to creating her own six-figure photography business.

Her journey started when she was teaching English in Taiwan. She knew she was meant for more and wanted to travel, so while she was trying to figure out her life she started a travel blog.

We talk all about niching down. At first, Meg was doing everything and helping everyone, but it was not filling up her cup. After she did her first branding shoot with a friend, she was hooked! She realized when you show up and show your confidence, your ideal people gravitate towards you.

Her favorite thing about branding photoshoots: Using photoshoots as a tool to practice self-care. Do you want to get your nails done? Do it. Do you want to switch up your hair? Do it. Have you been eyeing that fancy dress for months? Get it!

We talk all about the unknown today. Meg shares that when you don't know what the next step will be, just follow your bliss and your heart.

Hey Magic Makers!

Are you ready to start thinking differently about your personal brand and how you show up in the world? Do you want to make sure your brand is profitable?

Boy oh boy, I have an amazing guest today, Brittany Krystle.

Brittany is a Personal branding & growth expert with almost a decade of experience in personal brand development and content strategy. She has worked with some insane heavy heavy hitters in the online space to grow their businesses through personal branding–Gary Vaynerchuk, Marie Forleo, & Tom Bilyeu to name a few.

Back then, entrepreneurship was rare and personal branding did not really even exist. Brittany truly believes that there are endless possibilities to what you can create for yourself through strategically positioning yourself online... Because she has done it herself!!

Brittany started off her professional journey by going to law school because it was the safe thing to do. Once she entered the law field, she had what she described as a quarter-life crisis and realized she could not imagine doing it for the rest of her life.

She is an expert in helping people by asking them the right questions. Your personal brand affects every area of your business and she knows how to do this. We talk about how Influence isn’t luck–it’s strategy. When you are crystal clear about what exactly you bring to the table, your competitors are irrelevant.

As an actor, I had to get clear about myself and my values before I went to casting calls, but not everyone has this experience. I had to know which roles I wanted to play, which characters I could become, which values I wanted to upkeep before I could read the script.

Brittany has taught countless entrepreneurs at all levels how to brand themselves. No matter where you are on your journey, Brittany empowers her clients with the tools & strategies to grow their influence and position their personal brand to get the results they want.

And just a quick tip from the expert herself, you cannot outsource your voice until you establish it. To reach your audience, you have to show up consistently with a strategy! There are so many business owners who want social media and other things done for them, but YOU need to do it, at least in the beginning. That is what makes personal brands work.

Welp, Magic Makers- this is for SURE the most vulnerable I’ve felt pressing “record” on a podcast conversation, but also probably the most fun! It doesn’t matter if you’re in a relationship, single and not really looking, or if you’re dating and ready to call in that ideal partner - there is something valuable in this conversation for you!

Now I know this is the least “business-y” pod episode so far, but this conversation deals a ton with understanding how to communicate in such a way that we attract the best, most aligned people to us AND repel the people who aren’t aligned with our core values. Which, by the by, is SUPER valuable in business as well as relationships.

So, what are we gettin’ into today? Well, Magic Maker, today we’re diving deep into DATING, and specifically, how to identify our core values and practice self love (even after you’ve swiped right). I mean, hey...it IS “cuffing season” after all! Which is why I invited therapist and dating coach Kelsey Wonderlin to come share her thoughts on the subject.

A few years ago, Kelsey Wonderlin found herself in a pickle. She was learning so much about herself and how humans can get healthy through her psychology training, but she couldn’t find many helpful resources when it came to relationships and calling in her dream partner. Now, after developing her own successful dating app strategy (she’s now engaged to her dream partner and co-creating a healthy relationship with him), she uses her experience and her psychology training to help singles optimize their dating profiles and build healthy partnerships.

In fact - and this is where it gets vulnerable for me! - she actually helped ME do this a few weeks ago. Now, I get it, the immediate knee jerk reaction of most people is to ask about the juicy gossip surrounding the relationship and/or the guy - but the really juicy stuff is how I had to dig deep and get incredibly honest with myself about what I actually want from a partnership...and what I actually believe I deserve. And BOY HOWDY was that a vulnerable wake-up call for me lemmetellya.

Cuz here’s the thing: self love and romantic love are absolutely inextricably linked. In this episode, Kelsey and I talk through ways to identify your core values, find the courage to communicate those values (via a dating app, to a partner, or even just to yourself), and continue the work even after we find a partner by learning to regulate our emotions and practice self love.

Feeling burnt out? If you're looking for more balance, this episode with my good friend Kate Kordsmeier is for you. Kate has done an INCREDIBLE job building a multi-six-figure business with blogging and passive income so she can open up time and space to be with her family. She now teaches other entrepreneurs how to do the same!

There are so many roles we fill every day; mother, daughter, employee, business owner, team leader, but all those roles can leave us feeling depleted if we don't balance it out with self-care. Kate walks the walk, she is unapologetic about wanting to be financially successful with her business, while also prioritizing her mental health.

One thing we really dig into is the myth of "work-life balance"...Work is a PART of life. It's only when you look at your life as a holistic picture that is constantly ebbing and flowing that you can surrender to the flow and build a life AND business that are fulfilling. A life you are happy to show up for every day.

We also talk about mom guilt, and why some mothers are not starting their businesses because they feel guilty about taking time away from their family- something I really want to learn more about so I can support this community better (even though I don't yet have kids myself).

Kate is a writer, educator, and creative entrepreneur. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Matt, their two kiddos, Jackson and Gemma, and 3 fur babies, Scout, Boo, and Finch (yes, like the book!). Kate left her flourishing journalism career (her byline has appeared in over 125 magazines) to start a holistic wellness blog, Root + Revel, which became a multi-six-figure business! She took what she learned and now teaches other heart-centered online entrepreneurs to create a purposeful and profitable online business.

I hope you love listening to this episode as much as I loved having it!

Just a friendly reminder, SEO, blogging, writing, and creating passive incomes are all learnable skills, and my DMs and Kate’s DMs are open! Do not be afraid to create the content because you are scared of doing it “wrong”. As Kate said, action is the only way to get clarity!

Cue the music, Magic Makers because 🎶 It's the most wonderful time of the year 🎶! It's HALLOWEEN SEASON - aka my absolute favorite holiday, and consequently, time of year.

First of all, I love autumn in general because things start to slow the eff down after all the hubub of summer. The weather cools and we start to spend more time inside with family, friends, loved ones, and with ourselves. And of course, autumn also contains my favorite holiday; Halloween! I actually spent some time unpacking WHY I gravitate towards Halloween so much (and have since childhood) and I think it's because Halloween gives us permission to lean into the darker, more mysterious and curious parts of ourselves without any fear of judgment or ridicule. It’s a time for fun and play and exploration and acceptance.

I purposefully saved this guest for the first Monday in October because there's no better human I know to ring in Spooky Season than my friend, Matt Woods. Matt is a visual artist and illustrator working and living in New York City who creates macabre and charming artwork that celebrates the strange and unusual year-round. Halloween is also his favorite day of the year and he tries to bring a bit of that spooky weirdness to everything he does.

I first met Matt through his wonderful husband many moons ago and since then we've connected on the front of magic, authenticity, activism, and celebrating what makes us all unique. We're covering a LOT of beautiful and inspiring ideas in this episode; the importance of honoring all the parts of ourselves, advice for people who want to make more time for creativity and play, and making room for the people and things that truly make us happy.

If I had to pick a theme for this episode it would be AUTHENTICITY, specifically, how choosing to be authentic pays off every single time. Because here's the biggest life secret of all: when you stop worrying about "fitting in", that's when the real magic happens and you start attracting amazing people and opportunities into your life that are aligned with who you are and what you value.

The best way to support Matt is to follow him on Instagram and follow along with (and even participate in) "Inktober"! Every day in October, he draws something that inspires him from an "Inktober" prompt, and shares it with the world. Observe it, support it, bid on a piece, or take it as a nudge to practice your own creativity; it's purely for fun!

You can see more of Matt's work here:

Matt’s Website: matthewwoodsart.com

Matt’s Instagram: instagram.com/hallowwoods

Every day in October Matt will be auctioning 4x4 inch original illustrations on his Instagram @hallowwoods in conjunction with Inktober. https://inktober.com/

If you aren’t sure if you’re ready to make your side hustle your full-time job, this episode is for you! Educator, founder, CEO, and podcaster Shannon Mattern and I talk about the journey, the mindset, and the path you need to take to confidently transition from side hustler to self-employed, WITHOUT taking a pay cut.

Shannon’s story might sound (a little too) familiar: one day she found herself sitting in her beige office under fluorescent lights when she realized she wasn't fulfilling her life’s purpose. So even though it took a lot of brave vulnerability to let go of her "stable" 9-5 job, she decided to take the leap and build the career she'd always dreamed of where she could be her own boss.

Cut to a handful of years later: Shannon has now taught thousands of entrepreneurs how to build their own businesses and DIY a professional website through her amazing programs. And here's the kicker: according to her monthly income reports (which she publishes on her blog & which I never miss!) she's on track to scale to half a million dollars this year.

In this episode, Shannon and I talk about why you need to think of self-education as investing in yourself and your business. Thoughtfully spent dollars on courses, mentorship, and employees are investments that you will make back and can pay off big time in the long run.

Shannon's zone of genius is helping people identify marketable skills that bring them joy AND are actually going to make them money so they can feel safe leaving their day job/career/identity to go out on their own and invest in themselves. Because like it or not, at some point you have to invest in programs and people that are going to support your business to scale faster & more effectively.

And hey, as Loreál says, YOU'RE WORTH IT!

Magic Makers. I. AM. SO. EXCITED to have this conversation today because it’s about one of the biggest game changers in my own life and business: THERAPY!

I looooove talking about therapy now, (shoutout to my therapist Melanie!), but it wasn’t always that way. I felt nervous I was gonna get judged or that it meant something was “wrong” with me- but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

For me, the biggest surprise about going to therapy was seeing how much that hour a week helped me explode and scale my business. Therapy isn’t just for support through trauma or big life events, it can be so helpful to those of us who just have a nagging feeling that things could be better...we just can’t put our finger on how.

And who better to come on the pod to talk about the benefits of therapy than an actual real life Psychologist?! Dr. Sheena Sikorski is a licensed psychologist and mindset coach who helps her clients with science-based strategies to overcome and move through mindset blocks so they can get to what they are meant to be doing and stop holding themselves back.

She focuses on helping female entrepreneurs heal from self-doubt and other mindset blocks so they can show up in their business with confidence and ease, and finally leave their 9-5 job. YES PLEASE.

In this episode Sheena and I talk about the pressure we feel to figure out our lives at a young age. And how even now into our 30’s, social media seems to make us feel like we’re never quite enough. Sound familiar?

This episode is kinda like getting a free therapy session yourself; we’re talking about how to bust procrastination, how to boost self confidence, thoughts on setting boundaries, and so much more.

If you’re ready to break through your mindset blocks, smash that play button! And of course, be sure to hit “subscribe” so you never miss an episode.

This episode is basically the 'Find Your Magic' version of "Legally Blonde"; it involves feminism, believing in yourself after failure, glitter pens, understanding your personal brand, and setting yourself up for success in the workforce. Plus the musical improv "gives it a little something extra, don't you think?"

Come for the laughs, stay for the legal advice! If you're anything like me, you hear the word "legal" and your eyes glaze over. It can be scary and intimidating to get set up with everything you need to legally start and run a business (not just a hobby).

Lucky for you, my business bestie Nicole Swartz is here to talk us through the basics. She's the founder of Sprout Law - a law firm for women entrepreneurs, and Celestine Social - a consultancy that focuses on branding and social media strategy. From trademarks, to naming your brand, to terms and conditions, to contracts, to building a sustainable business that can scale- Nicole can help!

But don't estomp your lil last season Prada shoes at me hunny- it's not all legalese! We had a TON of fun in this episode- in fact I think it's safe to say I laughed more taping this one than any episode so far! And of course, no episode of Find Your Magic is complete without a chat about mental health.

So if you're ready to laugh out loud, pick up some business tips, and like, totally have a better relationship with failure, then you better 'bend and snap' to it and hit that play button! (What, like it's hard?)

Hey Magic Makers! This episode starts with a few housekeeping updates:

  1. Personal update: I’m (temporarily) moving to Santa Ynez, a town in Santa Barbara wine country. I’ll be there for a month to see if it’s somewhere I can see myself long term. I’m super nervous because I don’t know a single soul there, so if you have friends out there send ‘em my way!
  2. Business update: I’ve decided to re-open my signature course, Copy Class! Many of you have been messaging me about it and I felt bad making you wait 6+ months for doors to open again. So, I decided to go ahead and make it possible for you to enroll- learn more at kelseyformost.com/copyclass
  3. Podcast update: I want to be SUPER transparent & call this out rather than just sneaking it in...I’ve decided to start working with a couple VERY carefully selected podcast sponsors. You’ll now hear one or two ads from businesses who have personally helped me and made both my business and mental health journey easier.

THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK.

Now to the GOOD STUFF: here’s what to expect from this incredible conversation with one of my best friends in the whole world, Gentry White.

Gentry is an amazingly talented LA-based actor; he currently stars in ‘Jett’ on HBOMax, ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ on Netflix, ‘Unreal’ on Hulu, ‘TURN Washington Spies’ on Netflix, and the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise.

We’re diving into how to approach your creative and entrepreneurial projects with a sense of play and childlike wonder. One of the ways to do that is to find a creative outlet that is JUST for joy; not putting pressure on making money on every single side project you do. Those passion projects pour into our cup and are just as important as the ones that brings us financial abundance.

Gentry does an amazing job balancing the creativity he brings to his work on set and making sure he has a creative outlet outside of work so he can continue to approach creative work with a sense of play.

During quarantine, Gentry decided to dive into the world of photography, specifically self-portrait photography. He began taking photos of himself and found that it helped with not only his artistic creativity but also his body dysmorphia. He wanted to express himself and his individuality, but having someone take photos of him terrified him. So, he just decided to do it himself. This boosted his confidence and made him realize that the way he saw himself in the mirror was so different than how the camera and others saw him.

Gentry and I also get very real about the vulnerability it takes to express yourself as an artist- not hiding behind a mask or a character but rather being brave enough to bring a deep truth to your work. When you’re open, you can foster lifelong connections and produce your best work because you’re being your most authentic self.

We also talk about Black representation in media and entertainment, a topic that truly needs to be addressed more frequently and with more accountability from the white community. Gentry was so generous to speak on the subject, sharing some of his eye-and-heart-opening stories about some roles he’s been offered in the past that didn’t align with the stories he wants to tell about the Black experience in America.

This episode is real, honest, raw, and positively dripping with MAGIC.

Calling all skeptics! If you’re unsure about how energy and mindset affects your bottom line, you NEED to listen to this episode with successful CEO Emily Thomas.

Emily is a multi-passionate entrepreneur; she’s a coach who takes business owners to 7 and 8 figures, the founder of the Live Your Light School, a course to build self-trust in business, and CEO of Sundari Swim, an eco-conscious, body-positive swimwear brand. Emily teaches a no-fluff approach to mindset, business energetics & entrepreneurship. Her courses offer tools to facilitate self-coaching with her BREATHE Mind Management method.

The reason I love talking to Emily about this hippie woo-woo alignment and energy stuff so much is she really grounds her spiritual teaching in PRACTICAL goals, helping us get out of our own way to consciously design the life we deserve. It’s about quieting the inner skeptic, understanding what we’re REALLY attracting with our energy and vibration (stay with me!) so we can do the work that we were put on this earth to do.

So what’s in this episode? A LOT of open, vulnerable talk about how to identify and change the stories we tell ourselves about what we think we deserve.

You’ll hear Emily ask me some deep, probing questions about my recent breakup and decision to launch this podcast.

You’ll hear some wild stories about un-ignorable signs from the universe (seriously, pay attention when I start talking about the movie ‘Soul’!).

You’ll get some practical tools and takeaways to start asking YOURSELF a few questions about why you might be holding yourself back from success in your business and your relationships.

This one is for brave, wholehearted, hippie woo-woo curious business bishes who have a hard time accepting how much spirituality affects our work.

I see you, I’m one of you, and...I want to hear from you! Have you ever gotten an un-ignorable sign from the universe? DM them to me on Instagram @kelsey.writes or email me at hello@kelseyformost.com!

...before you go, I have a vulnerable favor to ask you:

Would you take a sec and subscribe to ‘Find Your Magic’ wherever you listen to podcasts? It helps me keep the podcast free for you guys AND helps other people find us. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart- you, Magic Makers, are the reason I’m doing this.

Jacinta Gandy “had it all”... the corner office, the 6-figure salary, the agency title, the fancy corporate expense account - and yet, she wasn’t happy. Not even close. Today we’re talking about the vulnerability and bravery it takes to leave a stable 9-5 to follow your own dreams and start your own business.

Today, Jacinta owns her own successful company, Social Circle; a full-service design studio that specialises in bold and beautiful branding consultations and web design based in Brooklyn, NY. Now she helps other women entrepreneurs build a profitable brand and web design/presence by...ahem...dare I say, finding their magic?

One of my favorite points from this episode is that time spent in corporate is NEVER wasted! It’s easy to feel guilty about not being happy despite getting everything you strived for. This episode is DEFINITELY for you if you feel shame about wanting to leave the stability provided by a traditional career path, especially one you’ve invested lots of time, money, or energy in pursuing.

You’re never too old and it’s never too late to find and pursue what lights you up. Glad you’re here, Magic Maker.

Feel intimidated and overwhelmed by Instagram but know it can help your business grow? Have a love-hate relationship with social media because of how it affects your mental health? You’re not alone!

In this episode of Find Your Magic I’m speaking with Mandy Emerson, a professional instagram coach who helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses using social media. But what I love about Mandy is that she focuses on helping women build their business using Instagram while also minimizing overwhelm and emphasizing authenticity.

Before we dig into Mandy’s tips for staying sane while building an Instagram presence, we start with a vulnerable conversation about what led her to starting her successful business - specifically, the difficult time period between the leaving of an old career/identity and the discovery and wholehearted pursuit of a new, more aligned path.

Mandy and I became instant friends when we bonded over leaving our successful careers in the entertainment business - her as a star cruise ship performer, me as a Hollywood actress (theater nerds, unite!). We’d spent so much time, energy and money learning to be professional performers only to find out over a long period of time that it wasn’t as fulfilling any more.

The truth is, finding your magic doesn’t happen overnight. There’s often a quite long period of time when you’re really struggling with the guilt of leaving an old dream behind and the anxiety of not knowing what’s next. We think, “shouldn’t I have this figured out by now? Am I too old or too late to make this change?”

I call these our lily pad moments; the times in life where we’ve left something behind and need a temporary safe place to land, a port in the storm to sort through our emotions before we decide what’s next.

Don’t worry - Mandy and I get into some Instagram and social media tips in the second half of the episode! She shares how to drive engagement and build community in a way that’s authentic and minimizes overwhelm. I HIGHLY recommend you check out her amazing free resources if social media is intimidating for you!

Thanks for sharing this vulnerable conversation with us! If you liked tuning in- and gee I really hope you did!- take a sec to subscribe & leave us a review on apple podcasts? Magic Makers, meet my friend Eddie. Eddie is very fancy and famous these days (I’m not kidding, he’s kind of the star of TWO freaking hit TV shows right now). Even though he’s had an incredible year and seems to have rocketed to stardom “out of nowhere”, this conversation is a reminder that there’s truly no such thing as overnight success.

It’s been an absolute honor to watch Eddie’s career blossom as his friend, knowing what a wonderful heart he has. In this episode, you’ll hear how Eddie and I met “in the trenches” as actors in Hollywood trying to catch a break, his history of coming “so close” to the roles he wanted so many times, his experience as an Asian American actor and his hopes for a more inclusive and peaceful future.

We talk about our struggles with scarcity mindset, overcoming perfectionism & procrastination as creative entrepreneurs, learning not to compare ourselves to others, and how we stay sane while we wait for the miracle.

More than anything, this conversation is about staying focused during difficult seasons - on your passions, your values, your work, and your mental health - so that you can be ready to excel when opportunity presents itself.

There’s no such thing as overnight success...success is the result of a series of small choices to turn towards the life you want to live. We have to find ways to be happy in the everyday process and difficult seasons, otherwise we’ll never be happy when we get what we asked for.

Please support Eddie by watching the first season of ‘Kung Fu’ on the CW - all episodes are now streaming on the (free!) CW app. (Also, it’s actually a REALLY good show and I’m not just saying that because he’s in it. I ended up bingeing the whole thing).

And hey, if you wanna support this podcast, leave us a nice review on apple podcasts, wouldja? It helps send a message to the nice folx at Apple that people like what we’re sharing and want to hear more! Thank you for real, for real!

Feeling lost about what the next chapter of your life should be? Or maybe you’re feeling stuck in your business, your relationship, or another area of your life where you’re thinking, “I don’t really know what to do next, I just know SOMETHING’s gotta give.” This is the chat for you...

In this episode I’m speaking with Megan Seamans, an International Life Coach, Human Design expert, speaker, author, and world traveler. For the past 5 years, Megan has supported women to tap into their magic & confidently get in the driver’s seat of their own life.

She’s amazing at helping you figure out who you actually are and what you’re naturally good at so you can move forward into the next chapter with ease, joy, and purpose!

In our chat, Megan explains what human design is and how it was introduced to her at the perfect time...She lost her older brother around the same time she was starting to study human design and describes how reading his chart was an incredibly healing moment in her grief journey. After living through that loss, Megan realized how important it is to do the things she actually enjoyed in life, and not just the things people expected of her.

We dig deep (and have lots of fun and laughs!) talking about how to find your purpose, get out of your comfort zones, and make room for self-care while grieving a loss (of a person, job, situation, or identity).

Megan & I also talk about how magical words are. The words we speak about ourselves tell a story, so using the right words changes the story for the better!

“Where do I feel stuck right now and where is the story standing in the way?” - Megan Seamans

Read this whole thing? WOWZER, BOWZER! Gold star for you! Before you go would you mind leaving us a positive review on Apple Podcasts? It TRULY makes a huge difference for us.

Get out there and find your magic, bb.

XO, Kelsey

Hey Magic Makers!

I’m comin’ to you from my childhood bedroom to tell you the story of why I decided to leave behind my successful career as a Hollywood actress to found my own company that helps entrepreneurs find their authentic voice and build their dream businesses.

It all started on New Year’s Eve 2017...I was recently single, just laid off, and about to move into my first “big girl” apartment (read: I was completely financially responsible for all my bills for the first time in my life).

So I did what any self-respecting Millennial would do: I went and had a good long ugly cry on the bathroom floor. Then; I got down to business.

This is the story of how I went from an unfulfilling but glamorous career (see Stanley Tucci in “The Devil Wears Prada” saying, “a million girls would KILL for this job”) to a fierce freelancer, to a bonafide business founder pulling in 6 figures doing what I LOVE.

Make sure to STAY TUNED UNTIL THE END of this episode because I’m sharing 3 of my favorite actionable copywriting tips that you can take away and implement on your own website for an instant boost of traffic and conversions. Because, ahem - pushes imaginary glasses up ridge of nose - entrepreneurs who invest in copywriting see 300% better traffic, connections and conversions than those who don’t.

Are you ready to see some magic happen in your own business? Then hit play already, why dontcha?!

OK, Magic Makers...This is not the introduction I was expecting to record, but it’s the one that tumbled out once I started talking about why I wanted to make a podcast about the intersection between mental health and entrepreneurship.

This introductory episode is raw, honest, and totally unscripted. In it, you’ll hear a little bit about who I am and what I do (a copywriting expert and mental health advocate who helps entrepreneurs develop an authentic brand voice, connect with their dream clients & make more sales), but then the episode takes a turn…

I didn’t expect that when I sat down to record the introduction to this podcast this past June that I’d be going through one of the most challenging times of my life. This project has been on my heart to make and share for a while, but an unexpected breakup and cross-country move was the spark that lit the fire inside me to dig deep, get honest, and start connecting with other people who were brave enough to forge their own path.

If you take nothing else from this episode I hope you leave with this:
We don’t have to FEEL brave to DO brave things.

Throughout the season of “Find Your Magic” you’ll hear honest discussions (usually between myself and an expert guest, but sometimes it’ll just be me!) about mental health, business and copywriting tips, plus stories about our personal lives and even some gems from my days as a Hollywood actress.
So with that, welcome to “Find Your Magic”, Magic Maker!... The podcast where entrepreneurship and mental health meet. So very grateful you’re here.

Please subscribe and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts- it truly makes a HUGE difference!
