My guest on the podcast this week is Templeton Elliott.

Templeton is the founder of the mostly skateboarding blog and podcast.

I talk to Templeton about starting skateboarding in North Carolina, picking up a camera and filming his friends to moving to California to peruse it as a full-time vocation.

Templeton at this time Templeton started his now legendary blog, mostly skateboarding. After having his writing and blogging skills seen by the skate world he soon picked up work for the skateboard mag and various other print publications.

Today Mostly skateboarding has morphed into is a weekly podcast that grew from a group of friends on twitter, including Patrick Kigongo, Mike Munzenrider , Jason from frozen in carbonite as well as Templeton himself.

They cover everything in skateboarding culture from videos to bigger subjects, like does the industry need trade shows? An in-depth look at video preservation in the latest episode, how to do the best brand roll out of all time and everything in between.

It was a real pleasure to talk to Templeton and the link to all episodes of the mostly skateboarding podcast as well as some of his video and written work, will be in the show notes.

A small note this is the full conversation with Templeton and hopefully the Spotify subscriptions will begin next episode……

I do hope you enjoy this episode

Hi and welcome to the skate creative podcast my names Joel Curtis and I’m a musician and skateboarder.

This weeks guest is Mark Foster. Fos is an artist ,designer and founder of Heroin and Landscape skateboards.

He started Herion as joke between friends and over twenty years later the company’s still going strong.

Its use of humour and loose punk rock aesthetic made Herion stand out from its inception. In late 90’s a lot of skateboarding had become quite conservative in its video making and graphic output.

Heroin’s 1999 debut video, Good shit, was under twenty minutes of Fos and his friends skating spots most people wouldn’t have even looked at.

Herion’s first pro was Taiichiro Nakamura also none as Chopper. He and his friends from Osaka Japan ,added a new flavour to Herion’s growing team through out the early 2000’s which included British pros’ Chris Pullman and Howard Cook along with host of amateur riders with Alan Glass helming its video output.

I talk to Fos about the birth of Herion, living in London in the nineties, growing up in Rawtenstall Lancashire, making videos “Everything’s going to be alright”and “Live from Antarctica”, starting Organic and Landscape skateboards , and moving his life and Herion skateboards to America.

Part 1

This weeks guest on the skate creative podcast is Dan Magee.

Dan is a film maker, editor and designer.

Blueprint skateboards was established by Dan and Faze sevens Joe Burlo in 1996 as an addition to Panic skateboards. Dan rode for Panic and then Blueprint before taking over filming and design duties for both companies.

Dan went on to make seven full length videos as well as countless ad’s and promo videos for Blueprint which raised the standard of what could be achieved by a British skateboard company in terms of quality and originality.

Dan’s eye for talent and the high goals set by its team members made Blueprint a world class company and a voice which was uniquely British, show casing spots and riders unknown to most of the skateboarding world.

In 2008 Blueprint was sold to a Canadian company after Faze 7’s owner Joe Burlo was hit by the financial crash.

Dan and all its pervious riders left shortly after this and he became a full time film maker producing content for a wide range of clients in and outside of skateboarding.

In this conversation with Dan we talk about starting Blueprint, filming the seminal videos though out his career,

Working on his last full length project “Cover Version”, transitioning to working outside of skateboarding

and why video premieres are one of the most important parts of skateboarding culture.

It could be argued that Dan is one of the most influential people in British skateboarding of the last 25 years but undeniably in terms of video production.

His meticulous eye for detail and dedication for showcasing every aspect of skateboarding in Britain made his work influence a generation of skateboarders to want to be part of a home grown company and not just dream of American recognition. While other British companies and riders flew the flag from America , Dan and the Blueprint team became a beacon of what was possible from home and your local scene, rising the bar of what it meant to be a British skateboarder.

This episode is in two parts both released today.
