There is so much to unpack in this episode. Fresh off of a heartbreaking overtime loss to Texas, Providence suffered an unthinkable defeat at the buzzer to Rutgers before bouncing back with six straight wins. During that stretch the Friars knocked off fourth-ranked UConn on the road... and Jim Calhoun provided a press conference for the ages.

It didn't take long for Providence to put the rest of the country on notice to begin the 2003-04 season. The Friars opened the season by winning eight of their first nine games, including an exhilarating victory over Illinois in the 2003 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Friarbasketball.com and the Friar Podcast have partnered to bring Providence fans a special look back at the 2003-04 season. This four-part podcast series will chronicle the Friars’ rise from middle-of-the-pack Big East team to one that proved it could play with anyone in the country.
The ‘04 Friars are most remembered for being on the cusp of a Big East championship and a potentially deep NCAA Tournament run (they were ranked 12th in the country with a 20-5 record heading into March) before the unthinkable happened -- they lost their final four games of the season.
