Flower Hour: Recent Episodes

shaun daniel carl flores

“Flower Hour” is a podcast that unravels the trajectories of individuals, seeking to comprehend why they are the person they are now, but also understanding the moments and times that defined them. We have more in common than divides us.

In contemporary society, many of us are guilty of subconsciously adopting social bubbles reinforcing and justifying our own opinions. This can be detrimental to our personal progression as we blindside our mentality and adopt a pattern of tribalism.

My podcast acts as a bridge to other worlds, as diverse conversation enriches all of our lives.

Remember a 6 is a 9 depending on the angle you are looking at it from.

Aaron is a young man who describes himself as an unapologetically conservative. In a time of echo chambers, it is important to have these conversations. He believes in individualism above collective politics which epitomises current politics.

Blackness can be likened to a political ideology, yet it isn't, conservatism and blackness are exclusive, being conservative in the generation of liberalism/illiberalism is a brave ideology to live by. Aaron believes our skin colour shouldn't define our politics, as an independent and free thinker, he champions facts over feelings, morality over immorality and strongly believes in family.

The young man who is brave to speak out about his views, he is now a part of Turning Point UK

thank you, Aaron!

Model, Tik Tok superstar and activist Allegria Dilecarta, is going to take the world by storm. After being subject to racial abuse on Tik Tok, she blew up and became viral. Usually, with fame, most become arrogant and forget their mission. She has not, she actively uses her platform to spread the message of being pro-black. Unapologetically pro-black with her music taste that takes us back to a time where music held meaning and passion.

We spoke about her time on Tik Tok, black activists and of her icons, the immeasurable TUPAC.

A young activist who has the world at her feet and will continue to do great things! Thank you so much!

I first met Zack when I was around 19-20 years old through an acting course. He was an engaging teacher and a man I aspired to be in personality, ethics and values. Zack now has followed that into politics.

Zack endeavours to create an inclusive world, where the idea is not radical but simply pragmatic. He identifies as a gay Jewish man, and believes that whilst he has faced abuse, he holds a view on the world that will not stop his ascent to a better world!

On June 25th 2020, via Instagram live, I had a fantastic conversation with Lavinya Stennett, Founder and CEO of The Black Curriculum.

We spoke about the importance of the black curriculum, at such a time the importance of black history is prevalent. The work Lavinya is doing is key to changing the tide for the black British community.  Black History is quite simply put British History, to ignore the importance of black people in British history is a grave injustice.

Through my own work with my masters and the teaching I have done, I see the power that showing black children and even non-black children that our history is more than slaves and chains has a revolutionary effect on children. Our history is doomed to repeat itself if we don't confront the past. I was humbled by the fact I shared such a stage.

I can't wait to work with The Black Curriculum in the future!

Jamal Walker is a young man who reminds me of what we have in common. We are politically homeless and philosophically nomadic. Our views change all the time, we remain rarely stagnant. Having discourse is the key to helping the world we live in. Within the conversation, we tried to find solutions, as omnivorous is the lifestyle best describing how he eats up issues with a wide array of discussions.

Jamal is also 1/3 of the podcast "As it unfolds" whereas directly taken from their podcast bio.

"Inform! Explore! Inspire! A space for learning and unlearning as we navigate this thing called life. Jamal, Sarah & Rush discuss topical issues such as: Social Culture, Education & Current Affairs. Giving ordinary people from all walks of life an opportunity to express their journey “As It Unfolds”.

Kay Rufai, a poet, photographer, filmmaker, playwright, mental health researcher, informed me of his own personal journey and professional journey. His work is monumental to exploring, uncovering and opening up the emotions of black boys allowing them to be more emotionally literate and conscious.

Often black men are not allowed or afforded the chance to be emotional, through family and even friends. Kay and I connected and found a brotherhood within one another.

A well-researched man, who I will be personally supporting as his work is essential to the betterment and upliftment of young black boys and men

Yona began his journey through gymnastics, transferring his strengths to diving. originally representing Great Britain he felt it was time to represent Jamaica. Meeting the likes of Usain Bolt who congratulated him on his achievements and his success, thus showing us how far he has come.

Yona and I explored his background, his journey to becoming an athlete and the decision to switch from Great Britain to Jamaica.

Moving to a country where I didn’t speak the language or understand the culture. One of my greatest is achievements is being the first woman in my lineage and with a 1st class honours.

Miss All African Colours England competition, promotes cultural diversity, allowing us to authentically represent not only ourselves by our backgrounds and heritage. “Representation is vital otherwise the butterfly Surrounded by a group of moths unable to see itself will keep trying to become a moth” written by Rupi Kaur My Beauty with a purpose puts refugees and asylum seekers at the centre. Bolton Destitution Project who’s aim is to work with and support asylum seekers. I’m fundraising for them and my goal is to reach £500 and when I do, I will do a 15 k in 2 hours and 500 squats in 30 minutes. The money will go towards helping the destitute asylum seekers who’s claims have been rejected and therefore do not receive any financial aid from the government. I have also partnered with Morrison’s to get food donations for the food bank at the destitution project. Winning the title of Miss AAC would be a dream come true!
