My favorite people to talk to are the ones that “make it happen “ regardless of fear and what challenges and obstacles are ahead of them . Kayla Cruz is just that type of person I say that because In the middle of a successful career in real estate and design she decides to follow her heart’s passion for art by quitting her job one day and going all in on HERSELF the next day as a full time professional artist . If that’s not following passion idk what is since then she has continued to thrive through art all on her own by committing herself to commissions and growing her skill base. This episode is her story in her own words.

The best part about being a writer from the street and curator in a gallery is the network I have to choose from. When I challenge graff writers to make gallery quality work and they deliver it’s a different kind of special. DYOS is a prime example of that already a dope and talented artist but to see the gallery work he produced is amazing. No lie I’m a bit jealous lol this is DYOS story in his own words

my favorite thing about this podcast is the people I talk to . The story of who they are and what they do . Sometimes I get a similar story from two different people . When that happens I try my best to get them in the same room and see if they are willing to work together. This is exactly what happened with Celina & Alexi not only did they know of one another they were fans of one another. Hanging art in the same room quickly lead to conversation about an installation and five days later it was all a reality . You will have to show up to the opening of -ARTIST MAKE THE CITY- January 20th 4-9 pm at the gallery by we are Sacramento to see exactly what I’m talking about!

Special people have always been a result of the graff game in Sacramento California but once in a while you meet someone that is truly extraordinarily special. The story of friendship and fellowship is a big part of Joshua’s story in this first episode with me hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did .

It’s so dope to sit down and have a conversation with other podcasts host that I’m a fan of and get the behind the scenes story of how their podcast started. Sheilah and sierra started the blue blocks podcast to highlight the businesses and special people on the Del Paso Blvd . I personally know how rewarding and challenging it is to highlight people from our community and maintain a high quality podcast and juggle all the regular life stuff and because of that I wanted to give them their flowers on air and remind them that the work they do has value.

Ever since I was a young warthog I would see “Aztec dancers “ and b amazed by the regalia and the collective movement to the beat of a live drum . In this episode Natalia breaks down the purpose and a bit of history on the ceremony and brings us up to date with her involvement in the Washington center.

I didn’t prep like normal for with this artist because I was already a big fan of and a member of her journey I ask only one question “why do you make art” her response was honest and without hesitation . I love that we could just talk without the fear of judgement or repercussions and that lead to a very productive conversation for this episode that I hope you can all appreciate.

Kiley secoy is definitely a one of a kind person. So much compassion and kindness and wisdom wrap up in tattoos and muscle’s I definitely didn’t think “business coach “ when I seen her lol. After talking to her for 60 seconds I thought OHHH this is a one of a kind business coach my bad lol. I would describe her as a rockstar logistic manager and a true leader that practices what she preaches about healing and growth from the inside out . This is her story in her own words

Joshua’s story is truly one of a kind growing up in California writing graffiti with his friends and experiencing everything that comes along with that life style. To opening a gallery space for artists to come and make their dreams come true . Many solo show and sales later he has mastered his creative process and continues to push his own ideas and theories in his work.

I have had the pleasure of sitting down with a few photographers and getting a chance to learn what their process is this is important to me because it gives context to the visuals they produce I call this process finding the “why” . Melissa’s “why” we extract special to me because it made so much sense considering her journey as a creative up until this point. YOU will have to listen to this episode to find out what I’m talking bout.

Once upon a time on this planet before computers before mass production before Walmart and Costco things were made by hand . By a person with a soul and personality filled with passion for the things they made with their own two hand. Because We have gotten so far away from this in today’s world it’s easy to spot a sign or piece of furniture that has that soul built in to it . Alyse the owner and founder of steadfast crafts is that missing link in today’s world building custom pieces with soul and passion . This episode is the journey Alyse took to become the creative we all see today.

Yo this Sacramento is truly a small town at heart. I say that because one way or another everyone knows everyone we're all connected through one another. In the Graff/ hip-hop scene its even smaller so I wasn't too surprised to find out WEL SED is my cousin 😮😁 and we didn't even know it . This episode is his own story in his own words and it's a dope one!

I'm excited for you to check this episode out. One of my favorite artist friends and her husband sit down with me and talk about the challenges of being in a relationship with a full time artist. I appreciate the honesty and respect they have for one another. I love how they have found a way to work through their challenges and keep things interesting when away from one another 🍄😁. I'm even more excited to tell you about Uli's podcast -TALK ARTY TO ME- dropping soon also produced by- WE ARE SACRAMENTO- And much more! Thank you -HAVE A DOPE DAY-

What I mean is GRANT KONISKI'S art is very powerful and it stopped me in my track's and forced me to ask myself"wtf am I even looking at right now?" I have to know about this guy. This episode is just that me/you learning about Grant's journey as an artist in his own words! Thank you

This episode is powerful . I'm a father of two young boys and I can't help but think of my kids as Carlos tells the story of how he was abused as a toddler. I usually am able to keep my wits about me in an episode regardless of people say. But this one was different for me idk if you can or can't tell on the episode but it fucked me up. Even on the way home. With that being said my respect for Carlos grew because of the man/husband and father he is today and hope that clear to everyone that knows him personally 👊🏼🙏🏼

I was so juiced on the way the conversation was going on the last episode I ask GATLIN back for a part 2 . It's always dope to me to learn how the art I fall in love with starts . From the concept to the creative process and finally the release to the public and the response to the project the way all these things align to make the work we see today is wild and exciting. From a music video to a legit cannabis company to fashion collaboration with other artists from a different space it's an amazing story you have to hear for yourself! -HAVE A DOPE DAY-

This podcast episode is special to me personally because I have been a fan of this artist since I was a youngster running around this beautiful city of Sacramento putting up graffiti with my friends and family . THE GATLIN has always pushed a hard line when it comes to music. In this episode we get to learn a bit about his process and why he makes the creative decision that we all have enjoyed for well over a decade. This is part one of his story in his own words -HAVE A DOPE DAY-

A graffiti crew is one of the most..idk the right word to use to describe a bunch of people that get joy out of vandalism and stress filled situations that are EXTREMELY unproductive to our lives. What I do know is that when it's real. The members in the crew become friends for life. Someone you can call on during hard times like when you need bail money or have had a shit week and NEED to paint . My point is there is nothing like else like a solid ground of people you can b YOU with. this episode is about BASE a writer that fell in love with graffiti, found his people and played and began a new chapter in life . This is his story in his own words. -HAVE A DOPE DAY-

It's always dope to me to hear how Graff has shaped the life of other young people like myself. The life long friendships we make in the Graff game are truly different from any other relationships we have in life. This episode is about HEXO and his crew UI. I recently purchased his magazine- NO FACE NO CASE -. I was impressed by the layout and focus he puts on his people from UI . The interview style is dope and to the point. My father once asked me "what makes a journey man"? I said time and experience he just grins and said "yeah " we laughed out loud, finished our beers and went back to work. I learned to spot the real badass in the shop after that by the way they carried themselves and how they talk about the craft. Mark is definitely one of those guys he's not ashamed of the hard earned experience in his journey and at the same time he's not cocky about how good he is . The power of people truly inspiring one another is always amazing to me! In this episode, featuring Manuel Fernando Rios, I got a bit of extra special amazement because of who inspired him (Ricardo favela). The more I experience the impact the members of the Royal Chicano Air Force have on their students and the people around them, the less surprised I am when amazingly dope things happen as a result of their work in the community. They truly inspired a generation of teachers and leaders of all kinds. In 2023, Manuel is one of those leaders who carries on the legacy with work in the art community.

I once herd about a dude (Leon Willis)that did so much graffiti in midtown Sacramento that the city made it a condition of his probation to not b allowed in midtown until his time was served. The sac Graff scene in the 90s was truly different from the Graff scene today. Once in a while I meet someone from that time period and get a bit more of the story . What really blows me away tho is what these people do with the love for graff and how they make something out of it.   This episode is about LEON WILLIS  who he is ,what he does and more importantly why he does it . I consider him a ture graffiti king not because he was a big time vandal  but because he never gave up on Graff no matter what the sacrifice was and after all that found a positive way to promote the culture in a new and exciting way to the next generation

When I meet special people i ask myself how did they get "here" aka what's their story? What lead them to This place and time in life and why did our paths cross right now? When this happens I slow down and take a second to try and get to know a bit about them and their intentions. This episode is the story of Jennah & Robert whitcanack founders and owner of The medium tattoo and gallery. Their journey begins as first time employees in a tattoo shop outside of Sacramento as young adults from two different "walks of life" he's a punk rock skater dude taking life one day at a time and she in college looking to build a successful future for herself... This is all I'm going to tell you for now because in the episode they do a great job of telling their story in their own words!

After a High speed police chase in a  stolen car on meth it's safe to say My guest was really heading for Rock bottom fast and it's going to get worse before it gets better . Sad to say this is the case for most of us in the Graff game and the "rock bottom" is different for everyone and it's not always drugs that lead us to that point but in this case it definitely is. Personally I'm glad it went down the way it did for him because it really could and should have been worse. Fast forward one year and he is taking his recovery seriously and we're all proud of him for that! He's learning to live life with a positive mental attitude and is doing the hard work daily to b a better version of himself.  Recovery isn't easy but today with his friends and family and the guidance and tools provided from his  counselor  and the program he is in the future is looking bright for my friend!

This is very special episode for me 🙏🏼 .  Justin and Kelly's story started July 4th 2004 . Just two kids in their 20s living life. "Life" gets real serious real fast for them and truly test the love and loyalty they have for one another. Fast forward almost 20 years later and it's easy to see that they have an even stronger love for one another that plays out in every aspect of their lives .  This love and loyalty is one of the reasons why they are successful business owners with the same rock solid team over a decade 👊🏼! (Got damn it nick!)  . I can't say enough good/ true things about Justin and Kelly and the rest of my kick ass work family that has put up with me and my "life" for a very very very long time! One Saturday morning I was surfing on IG just seeing what's what . I came across a picture of the beginning stages of a huge mural. I instantly knew what the mural was and that was exciting but to b honest the thing that excited me most was WHERE it was !  Northgate Blvd hasn't changed much in 30 years so a huge mural of "Mexican dancer"(what I called it) was definitely something to b excited about. This is when I find out about BETH CONSETTA RUBEL . I learned what I could about her online and told myself I'd wait to see the mural in person when it's done . Fast forward a year and 15 days I'm sitting down with Beth talking about who she is as a person and professional and how  that mural came about. Exactly one year ago Cheyenne Randall aka Indian giver blessed me with my first ever interview on the first ever episode on this podcast.  I had zero experience in podcasting or interviewing people 😆. So one year later with thousands of minutes of recording time and interviewing many different kinds of people I wanted another chance to sit down with Cheyenne as a more experienced host and also to celebrate his wife Ariel . During the recording of the episode the title POWER COUPLE kept coming to my mind because they truly are something special as a team . Dealing with artist isn't always easy, dealing with a spouse isn't always easy. So in my mind "Artist spouse" seems like a major challenge, they make it look easy as they travel the country installing art and looking for good coffee and sandwiche spots as a power couple. Thank you Cheyenne and Ariel for your story and time .

Artist are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get . For me This is especially true with Jeff musser and his work. my first honest thoughts were " I just know that I like it " then come the questions why ,what, when,  in these conversations with artist I always learn something that I apply to my own creative process .  Conversation's with Jeff musser about his journey has reminded me of a harsh truth and that truth is " real life challenge breed's  real life inspiration" . This is truly the wildest graffiti story I have ever herd ! This story is so wild and so not yet over that I ask the producer to remove the name of the writer because as some of you know it's not hard for detective's to look into your profile base  on the smallest  bit of information and then arrest warrants are issued and then hopefully bail and  all the other "fun" stuff that comes with graff . So to protect the artist I'ma just play it safe. The streets who know this guy is and that's all that matters. Uli Smith is a living proof that you can have whatever you're willing to work for ! what I mean is Allot of us start out making "small art" canvases and maybe a one wall mural in a home or business and then spend some time enjoying that comfortable size project then eventually go a bit bigger slowly over time . This is not the way uli works .I can best describe her  artist hustle and professionalism in my own words as "kicking in the art door" 😁  she jumps right in to to 100ft murals, installation's and solo show's . she isn't the type of person to see challenges and boundary's as stopping points she will simply work around them on the way to her next goal and deadline . Danilo tividad is a true product of the SF streets . Graffiti in the city during the 90s was a vibe of its own. Lead by an ideology made up of hardcore  letter structure, style and real life street work was the foundation for the real writers in the game . Before the internet people had to see you up all over your city for you to have street cred . gallery owners were seeing the work to 😁 .  Danilo's work was seen by a curator from a gallery and his art story begins! Yes Graff is art .I know you know that but the writers don't call it that because its truly not the same and that's ok ! This episode is special to me because Danilo invited me to my first gallery show at his gallery 3rd eye and that's were my art story begins!  You're going to have to listen to the episode to get the rest.

In the Graff game only the strong thrive! When you see someone around for years, traveling and dropping content with heavy hitters in the streets you can safely assume they are "with the shit". What I mean is they have the been allowed access to this underground Coulter. In bazooka films case this is exactly what is going on . Through hard work, sacrifice and dedication he has made a lane for himself in the Graff game. Before Instagram and all the internet shit bazooka put the time in to learn his craft in the classroom. then put the blood sweat and tears on the street to master his craft.all across this country and even internationally he is well known and respected. My good friend tomás Montoya not only set this episode for all of you up but also interviews bazooka films from a camera man's / editors point of view . You guys are welcome!

Thank you

You know the episode was dope when you keep talking for 5 hours after the recording stopped .we sat down at 2pm and didn't leave till 7:45. You guys will only get about an hour 45 of the conversation. It's always exciting to me when I "hit it off" with someone minutes in to meeting them.  This doesn't always happen but I known it when I see it .It's extra DOPE when they are willing to share the wisdom they had to learn the long way . The real life way . The sink or swim way. This is exactly what happened with Jay's and I . Jayas work definitely speaks for it's self but since you can't see it right this second I will describe it in one word....... IMPACTFUL!  Stop reading and play the  episode!

Thank you

As artist creativity is never far away it's apart of everything we do in life . job, relationship, exercise , learning new things even being reminded of old things. That you do don't do as much as you use to. I learned this from brett as she shared her story with me. Small town girl moves to the big city works in the fashion game and spends her free time at the beach . Dose the whole"adult" thing . Works a job pays bills and taxes 🤮 then something DOPE happened ! The whole world literary shut down and the adulting is paused and the arting is on like donkey Kong ! 😁 .  Stop reading this and play the episode!

When it comes to just making things it happen for yourself ERSE has no fear ! art with spray cans isn't easy . Painting different surfaces isn't just one size fits all. Mocking up a mural isn't a real quick process. Then throw in the social media hustle and it's a few full time jobs all wrapped as his day to day . When I ask how are you handling the work load his honest response was " I love it" I don't miss a 9-5 .this is just a bit of erse story the rest you will have to hear from him in this episode.

Thank you

It's a beautiful thing to watch someone grow up to do what they love . I first met 95 when he was the youngest in the cypher at house party's year's and years ago. I knew way back  then he was special and im not surprised now that his music has the impact it does. I'm not surprised he's built and maintained an audience , relationship's with important people. On top of working a full time job and being a family man. The energy in this conversation is clear and the music speaks for itself . Thank you guys for rockin with us .

I have learned many things from many people in my few years on this planet. Bzka2th has honestly taught me the difference between a painter for higher and an artist that is using art to express the good ,bad and ugly experiences we all go through in life. It's 100% survival for us, art is serious!  Art with automotive paint is expensive it requires patients and discipline . Respect for the science of paint and the craftsmanship  of applying paint show's in every piece of his. I can definitely go on about BZA2TH  but I'm not going to . You will have to listen to the episode for the rest of the gems!

When the original gangsters tell the story it's in beautiful mixture of street slang and Chicano Spanish . FLACO from the OLD ILLUSIONS BOMB CLUB is an og for real for real. Not in a negative way  I'm talking about the look, the body language and doing what you say you're going to do. That comes from a different time period. He tells the story of the first bomb he saw built in the city, building his first car and how the city of sacramento has changed for over the Year's. This is a small glimpse in to the history of lowriding here in sacramento from a guy that lived it .FLACO  and ANGEL are two people I have look up to my whole life. There growth has inspired mine !

I went to highschool with this guy over 15 years ago😃 .I was a freshman he was a senior. A very popular senior for good reason. MAMMXTH was the dopest artist at Highlands highschool. Our friend JJ was the dopest Graffiti writer in our highschool . I was still toy at that time,I was inspired by their relationship and friendly competitive attitudes. Highlands is we're this story starts for all of us . This episode is all about the hard work and sacrifice MAMMXTH put in after all that. MAMMXTH bet on himself and made art pay off ! From the outside looking in PAINT IN FULL is not only his brand name  it's his attitude twords his art . He doesn't come in half stepping ! Full focus . Full execution. Full quality. Painting in full is a way of life!

This story for me begins two years ago . A picture on Instagram and the branding to back it up . The words We are sacramento stood out to me and I thought " why didn't I think of that" it's so simple and "big" at the same time! I contacted Mario not expecting him to b accessible and ask if he would b willing to talk about working together. To my surprise he said yes! I quickly realize that Mario is about what he preaches and more. On the surface Mario is charming ,witty and full of jokes a serious individual when it comes to getting something done "I don't give people excuses" is something I have her him say many times and it's true! My short time in art and success is proof that the knowledge and infrastructure Mario and the we are sacramento crew has built works for anyone willing to match the hustle.! I say all that to say this. You want to learn how to build a successful brand ? Then this episode is for you! ---THANK YOU AND HAVE A DOPE DAY---

Adding value to music isn't easy!  To me it takes a brave person to add value to something beautiful like oldies, jazz,r&b, even classic hip-hop . You will know it when you hear it !  To b honest that's not even the dopest part , MON$ doesn't stop at just making dope music for himself and others. The game and knowledge that took a lifetime for him to learn is available for anyone willing to put in the work through the FLIP A BEAT CLUB. MON$  and his network of craftsman ,business owners, "undiscovered kings"(his words) are keeping our Coulter alive and well by building with one another! I'm great full to have been able to learn about some next level stuff from a next level individual like MONSROCK!

This is the story of frisk in his own words.i have had the pleasure of seeing him grow as man and graffiti writer. Frisk gets his tag name from his father who wrote graffiti in the early 80s and 90s. Born and raised here in sacramento frisk came up on the these streets  with some of the dopest writer's this city and other cities has ever seen and they put in work like no one before them . I should know I drove to Bay and back to pick these fools up from jail and HELLA other dramatic situations we can't talk About 😁. Now in a different state frisk is still doing his thing with his crew ,greater focus and direction.
