Continuing our discussion of finding food fish feed on we look at stream features then turn our attention to some more safety issues of fishing.
You can't catch fish unless you can find them! A key aid in finding fish is finding the food fish eat. Locate the food-find the fish. We'll learn skills to identify structure and cover that attract bait fish and other forge food of game fish.
Sometimes, you just don't want to work so hard. Why not let natural bait do the work for you? Learn about the many different rigs to present your bait in the most natural ways.
Artificial lures are pretty simple to use. Just tie into the tie-in loop and start fishing. Or you can get creative with soft plastic lures and build different rigs to get to the places fish are looking for food.
Hard and soft artificial baits or lures can be very effective in catching fish. However, many fisherman get tangled up in choosing the the right lure.

Why do you need a license to catch a fish? We start with a brief history of conservation in Indiana and learn about the rules and regulations of sport fishing. Then we talk about good sportsmanship in the outdoors and how to protect the natural resources for everyone's benefit.
We talk about a few species of fish you are most likely to catch. The bluegill tops the list as the most plentiful and easiest to catch. We also talk about redear, crappie, largemouth bass and the very unique catfish.
Probably a good place to start a fishing class is to talk about fish. We will discuss the most popular species of fish a beginning angler is likely to catch. We'll review fish anatomy and gain insight into how fish function in their environment. We'll also discuss key issues of conservation and good sportsmanship.
