Stay tuned for empowering interviews with fellow artists, gallerists and curators who'll kindly share their experiences, advice, tips and tricks. This podcast is hosted by Mona Lerch, a visual artist, artist coach and founder of Art Mums United, Women United ART PRIZE and Women United ART MOVEMENT.
Every artist reaches a moment when technical skill is no longer enough, and the real work becomes discovering a voice that is unmistakably their own.
In this episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Mona Lerch sits down with Courtney Bae, whose thoughtful and deeply personal practice explores identity, memory, perception, and the quiet beauty found in everyday experience. As a 3rd place winner in the Women United ART PRIZE 2025, Courtney has been steadily building a body of work that invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and embrace ambiguity rather than certainty.
Together, they explore Courtney's artistic evolution - from her earliest creative influences to the development of her distinctive visual language, and discuss how curiosity, experimentation, and vulnerability have shaped her practice. Courtney shares insights into balancing intuition with intention, navigating recognition through artistic opportunities, and remaining authentic in an increasingly competitive art world.
The conversation also dives into the realities of building a sustainable career, embracing artistic uncertainty, and trusting that meaningful work develops over time rather than overnight. Courtney offers thoughtful advice for emerging artists on finding confidence in their own voice while resisting the pressure to follow trends or external expectations.
Whether you're an artist searching for your own visual language or simply fascinated by the creative process, this episode is an inspiring reminder that the most compelling art often emerges when we allow ourselves the freedom to evolve.
Tune in for a conversation about artistic growth, resilience, and the lifelong journey of becoming the artist you're meant to be.

In this episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Mona sits down with multidisciplinary artist Claudia Fuentealba, whose powerful fiber-based works explore cultural identity, displacement, resilience, and the invisible structures that shape our lives.
Born into a Chilean family and raised in Puerto Rico, Claudia brings a deeply personal perspective to her artistic practice, drawing from experiences of migration, belonging, motherhood, grief, and transformation. Through her acclaimed series Escala, she transforms humble materials such as wool, cotton rope, yarn, leather, and metal into sculptural landscapes that balance softness with strength, tension with healing, and vulnerability with resilience.
In this inspiring conversation, Claudia shares her journey from a successful fifteen-year career in global trade to building a full-time creative practice under the name The Yin to My Yarn. Together, we explore how ancestral craft traditions can become a language for emotional storytelling, how art can help us navigate life's imbalances, and why softness may be one of the most powerful forms of strength.
This episode is a thoughtful reflection on reinvention, creative courage, and the transformative potential of making something meaningful from life's unraveling threads.
Whether you're an artist navigating change, someone exploring questions of identity and belonging, or simply fascinated by the power of material storytelling, Claudia's journey offers wisdom, encouragement, and a beautiful reminder that healing often happens one thread at a time.

What does it mean to belong—to a place, to a memory, to yourself?
In this deeply thoughtful episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Mona Lerch sits down with artist Eleftheria Easley, whose work explores the emotional terrain of memory, identity, and belonging. Drawing from her multicultural background and lived experience across different geographies, Eleftheria creates poetic visual narratives that examine what it means to exist between worlds—culturally, emotionally, and physically.
Together, they explore how personal history, inherited narratives, and fragments of memory become artistic material; how displacement can shape not only identity but creative language; and how art can help us navigate the invisible threads connecting past and present. Eleftheria also reflects on her journey through the Women United ART MOVEMENT Residency, sharing how the experience supported her evolving practice and deepened her confidence as an artist.
This conversation is an invitation to slow down and reflect on your own emotional geography—the spaces you come from, the ones you inhabit, and the ways we continuously become who we are.

Today’s episode is a deeply moving and powerful conversation about love, visibility, and the radical act of painting tenderness into history.
I’m honored to be joined by Joan Cox, a Baltimore-based painter and the second-place winner of the Women United ART PRIZE 2025 in the Painting & Drawing Category. For more than two decades, Joan has been creating vibrant, emotionally rich portraits of lesbian couples—works that reclaim space for queer intimacy, memory, and representation in a canon that has long erased these stories.
Joan’s journey spans opening a gallery in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina, returning to graduate school to fully embrace her LGBTQ+ identity in her work, and building a practice that blends autobiography, historical references, symbolism, and activism. Her paintings are lush, sensual, and layered with meaning—images she wished she could have seen growing up.
In this conversation, we’ll explore how painting became a form of survival, how she reclaims art history through queer narratives, and why tenderness itself is a powerful political gesture.

In this deeply personal episode of Women United ART PODCAST, we sit down with Midwest-based photographer and educator Paige Young to explore how photography can become a powerful language for grief, memory, and emotional healing.
Paige’s work lives at the intersection of psychology and visual storytelling. With over fifteen years of experience running her photography business and teaching at Kendall College of Art and Design, part of Ferris State University, she has dedicated her career to creating spaces where vulnerability, compassion, and honesty can exist both in front of the camera and in the classroom.
In this conversation, Paige opens up about turning the lens inward after personal loss, documenting her grandfather’s journey with dementia, and confronting the societal discomfort around conversations about grief and mental health. We also dive into her powerful solo exhibition Smell The Flowers, a body of work that explores the complex relationship between medication, emotional experience, and memory through photography and immersive installation.
Together we discuss the nonlinear nature of grief, the quiet distance that can exist between feeling and expression, and the role art can play in helping us process what words often cannot.
This episode is a tender, honest exploration of what it means to remember, to heal, and to hold space for the full spectrum of the human experience.

In this bold and timely episode of Women United ART PODCAST, we welcome back artist, writer, and digital rights advocate Emma Shapiro for a powerful conversation about censorship, body politics, and the future of artistic freedom online.
After facing censorship of her own work, Emma transformed personal frustration into global advocacy. As Editor-at-Large of Don’t Delete Art, she now works at the intersection of art and policy, collaborating with major institutions and digital rights organizations to ensure that artists are recognized not just as content creators — but as cultural rights defenders.
We dive into the upcoming 2026 collaboration between Don’t Delete Art and Free the Nipple, unpacking why nipple censorship remains a flashpoint in broader conversations about gender bias, algorithmic moderation, and the suppression of artistic expression. Together, we explore self-censorship, platform power, and what it will take to build a digital landscape where artists can create without fear.
This episode is essential listening for anyone navigating the online art world — and anyone who believes creative freedom is worth protecting.

In this inspiring episode of Women United ART PODCAST, we sit down with Dr. Quahana Hendree — art consultant, theological art historian, and Founder & CEO of Q. Hendree Art Consulting — to explore the powerful intersection of art, faith, and community transformation.
With more than 25 years of experience across art history, theology, curation, and arts management, Dr. Hendree brings a rare and deeply intentional perspective to the role art plays in both public and private spaces. After relaunching her firm in 2020 following a period of personal recovery, she stepped back into the art world with renewed purpose: to help organizations, corporations, and government institutions create environments that don’t just look beautiful — but feel meaningful.
In our conversation, we trace her journey from academic foundations in theological art history to leading strategic art consulting projects that transform corporate and civic spaces. We discuss how spirituality informs her curatorial lens, why representation and storytelling matter in institutional collections, and how art can serve as a bridge to healing, empowerment, and cultural connection.

Welcome to another episode of Women United ART PODCAST. In this conversation, we’re joined by Marish, a New York–based visual artist whose journey is a powerful story of reinvention, persistence, and creative courage. Born in Czechoslovakia, raised in Ukraine, and now building her career in New York, Marish began her artistic path with no contacts, no shortcuts, and no guarantees—only vision, discipline, and an unshakable drive to create.
Marish is known for her striking bas-relief oil portraits that merge realism with surreal, emotionally charged worlds. Using airbrush techniques and unconventional materials such as Preciosa crystals, epoxy, neon, and layered surfaces, she creates works that explore identity, inner states, and spiritual presence. Over nearly a decade in New York, she has shown her work at major international art fairs including Art Basel Miami, Spectrum Miami, and Artexpo New York, and recently celebrated a major milestone with her first solo exhibition.
In this episode, we trace Marish’s journey from her early life in Eastern Europe to the realities of building an art career in one of the most competitive art cities in the world. We talk about the courage it takes to start over, the evolution of her distinctive visual language, and how she developed a practice that feels both technically daring and deeply introspective. Marish shares candid insights into navigating submissions, fairs, and visibility, as well as the challenges and rewards of committing fully to an artistic life later in life.
This episode is an honest, inspiring look at what it means to build something from the ground up—layer by layer—through resilience, experimentation, and belief in your own vision. Whether you’re an artist in transition, dreaming of a new beginning, or looking for real-world insight into carving your own path, this conversation offers both clarity and encouragement.

In this episode of Women United ART PODCAST, we welcome Lidia Russkova-Hasaya, a Georgian-Russian interdisciplinary artist and director whose work transcends the boundaries of form, space, and geography. Through sculpture, sound, video, and immersive installations, Lidia transforms personal history, displacement, and emotion into tangible, sensory experiences — a language she calls “Emotional Architecture.”
From the luminous door of Portal during the opening of the Venice Architecture Biennale to the introspective Homesick and Unfolding, Lidia explores belonging, vulnerability, and transformation, turning materials like glass, neon, and metal into metaphors for resilience. Drawing from her theatre background and personal experiences of denied citizenship, she creates worlds where fragility becomes strength and architecture becomes a vessel for emotion.
Join us as we dive deep into Lidia’s journey, exploring the intersections of theatre, memory, and materiality. We discuss her unique approach to post-geographic spaces, the role of sound in her immersive installations, and how art can serve as both therapy and collective ritual. Lidia shares insights for artists navigating emotional authenticity, conceptual ambition, and the thresholds of creativity across disciplines and borders.
Whether you’re an artist, curator, or simply curious about how art can translate the most intimate human experiences into space and light, this episode invites you to witness how emotion can be built, not just felt.

In this episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Mona Lerch sits down with Samara Couri — a London-born, Hawai‘i-based artist whose luminous mirror paintings blur the boundaries between self and world, mythology and material, art and empathy.
Samara’s journey has taken her from the studios of London’s City & Guilds Art School to the vibrant natural landscapes of Honolulu, where her work continues to evolve in dialogue with light, movement, and reflection. Painting directly onto mirrors, Samara transforms them from objects of vanity into portals of awareness — inviting viewers to quite literally see themselves inside the artwork.
Together, we explore how her practice bridges the figurative and the spiritual, from cinematic influences that shaped her early experimentation to her current explorations of Akua, the Hawaiian deities she interprets as living reflections of nature’s cycles and human interconnectedness. Samara shares how her experiences of migration, identity, and belonging have informed her art, and what it means to build empathy and self-recognition through visual reflection.
We also talk about the beauty and technical challenges of painting on mirrors, the vulnerability of immersive installations, and the role of mythology in healing our relationship with the Earth.
This conversation is an invitation to look closer — at art, at nature, and ultimately, at yourself.

In this unflinching episode of Women United ART PODCAST, I’m joined by Maria Gvardeitseva—an extraordinary Belarusian-born, London-based artist whose practice confronts political exile, memory, and feminism through performance, video, and installation.
Maria’s art is both deeply personal and profoundly political. Born in Belarus, she carries the lived experience of displacement and exile, transforming it into work that refuses silence and challenges systems of violence. Her pieces often weave mythology, ritual, and the female body into visceral storytelling—altars of memory and resilience that echo the struggles of women navigating loss, identity, and transformation.
Her work has been shown across Europe, from the Mark Rothko Art Centre to Venice’s Santa Maria delle Grazie, and in 2022 she was a finalist for the Belarusian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
In our conversation, Maria shares her journey of turning trauma into resistance, isolation into community, and silence into an artistic language that insists on visibility. This is a powerful reminder of how art can confront injustice, preserve memory, and create hope in even the darkest of times.

In this heartfelt episode of Women United ART PODCAST, host Mona Lerch welcomes celebrated artist Susie McColganfor a moving conversation about resilience, rediscovery, and the emotional power of painting. Susie shares how her lifelong relationship with art began in childhood, growing up in northern Michigan where nature, color, and light first stirred her creative soul. After earning a BFA from the University of Michigan and building a successful career in commercial art and illustration, Susie eventually made the bold decision to return fully to her passion for painting.
Everything changed in 2019 when she experienced a near-death accident that left her with multiple injuries and a long period of recovery. It was during this time that art became more than a calling—it became her medicine. Painting again after trauma gave her a renewed sense of purpose, and her work has since evolved into a healing practice, both for herself and others. With a focus on light, color, and emotional storytelling, Susie’s paintings invite viewers into a safe, comforting space—what she describes as a “hug of comforting love.”
Throughout the episode, Susie reflects on the spiritual transformation that shaped her post-recovery art practice, the intention behind the energy she brings into her work, and her mission to offer joy, calm, and hope through visual storytelling. She also shares her experiences painting for clients like General Motors and hospitals across Michigan, and speaks about her portrait work for notable figures including Tom Brady, Lee Iacocca, and Dave Thomas. Her story is a beautiful reminder that creativity can be a powerful balm, especially when it comes from the heart.

Welcome to another episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Season 4, in which Mona chats with Stephanie Morton-Millstein, a Los Angeles-based painter and sculptor whose work explores the ever-evolving cycles of nature, identity, mood, and consciousness. Embracing an intuitive, abstract expressionist style, she allows her mediums—oil and clay—to guide her, layering and sculpting until each piece feels complete. Her creative process is deeply immersive, often unfolding over months in moments of clarity and explosive creativity.
Stephanie’s journey with art began as a form of self-grounding. From childhood, she felt a strong urge to document time and change, drawn to photography as a way to capture fleeting details. Influenced by visionaries like Diane Arbus, Helen Frankenthaler, and Louise Bourgeois, she continues to push the boundaries of her artistic practice.
Beyond her work in the studio, Stephanie is a proud Jewish artist and a passionate advocate, using her voice and platform to fight against antisemitism. In a time when standing up against hate is more critical than ever, she is unwavering in her efforts to combat discrimination and celebrate Jewish identity.
In this episode, we dive into her creative process, artistic influences, and her powerful commitment to advocacy. Join us for a compelling conversation about art as both a deeply personal and profoundly impactful force in the world. Tune in!

Claudi has a rich history of working with recycled plastic bags, creatively interacting with different landscapes. Her impressive body of work has received international acclaim, earning prestigious awards such as the Joan Mitchell Grant, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner Grant, and the Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary Award, among others. Claudi’s art remains deeply rooted in themes of care, nature, and environmentalism, reflecting her ongoing battle with societal judgments and her own heritage. Her digital works are intangible and invisible, yet they resonate with feminine creative labor and address unresolved relationships with her mother, patriarchy, mythology, self, nature, and mainstream society.

Welcome to another captivating episode of the Women United ART PODCAST! In this episode, we sit down with Nina Alderete, an accomplished artist from Burien, Washington. Nina holds a B.A. from the University of California Santa Cruz, an M.F.A. in Painting from Central Washington University, and an M.S. from the University of the Pacific. Her expertise lies in creating small-scale collage paintings that delve into layers, depth, stylized composition, and personal internal logic.
Nina's work beautifully intertwines the highly personal with the unknowable, creating a resonance that is both disquieting and alluring. Her artistic process allows her to explore the internal dialogues between thoughts and the body as they interact with and respond to the environment. Through key materials and symbolism, she constructs narratives that play between dreamlike beauty and a veiled relationship with her memory and emotions.
Working intuitively, Nina's compositions often feature themes of strange beauty and concealed discomfort, grime, obsessive thoughts, and anxiety. Her internal symbolism is rich: watercolor marks evoke viscera, fabric pieces signify illness, and beads depict breath and air. Text on each piece reflects a continuous discord of thoughts, emotions, and connections between body and objects.
Using collaged elements from midcentury texts, dated magazines, and vintage fabric, Nina explores the emotional expectations and tensions surrounding gender and appearance. These materials, while graphically appealing, also induce a sense of discomfort and imposition.
Critical to her process are needles and thread, reminiscent of hemming clothing. This tactile engagement leaves physical traces of her body in each piece, such as hair, dirt, blood, and skin, creating an intimate yet repulsive connection to her work.
Nina's use of transparency through materials like watercolors, tracing paper, sheer fabrics, and wax helps her develop depth and an internal connection between materials. Join us as we dive into Nina Alderete's unique artistic journey and uncover the fascinating layers of her collage paintings.

Experiencing life with a disability has given Kim a unique viewpoint that is reflected in her paintings, drawings and collages. She focuses on the body’s relationship to the
world, both physically and emotionally. Motherhood has made that difference a more central part of her art, and her work has expanded to examine those experiences in the context of parenthood. Her intention is to create dialogue around these topics in order to spark a larger conversation.

Join Mona as she chats with a Tanzanian-Nigerian collage artist Marryam Moma who tells vivid stories by blending repurposed archival paper, mixed media and paints to create multidimensional imagery. Her work lives in the collections of corporations like Microsoft and Starbucks and was featured on television programs like Black-ish, Bel Air and Cherish the Day. Marryam’s commissioned work appeared in celebrated art publications and was exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad.

In the light of the current events in Iran, we are honoured to present an interview with Arghavan Agida who represents the voices of international female artists through her project ARTDOM.
Born in Iran during a war-torn time, her father – an artist and writer – decided to flee the country when Arghavan was three through Azerbaijan, then to Germany and in 1989, reached the place she would call home; Sweden. Eleven years ago, Arghavan was presented with the opportunity to join a music competition in London, which brought many people into her periphery; most importantly, women from Iran began to contact her and would write about their inability to share their creative passions due to the oppressed culture they were living in.
An idea was born to share the voices of women who lack the freedom to express themselves freely. ARTDOM project has been running for seven years and matched female visual artists from Sweden and Iran, Norway and Pakistan, and currently UK and India.
Join Rachel Le Roux for this powerful takeover episode with Arghavan as they chat about the challenges she's faced in her journey to support women around the globe.
