Importance of Fathers:

Here are a few lessons we can learn from fathers.

Examples of Fathers in the Bible:

  • Adam: Lesson There are Consequences for Bad Behavior.

  • Proverbs 20:7 Children are blessed if a father walks in integrity. The righteous who walk in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!

  • Noah: Serving God and his obedience protected his family.

  • Proverbs 14:26 - In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.

  • Joseph: Choice to love and raise a son that was not his. Is an example of a man Stepping up and being obedient to what God has called him to do.

  • Psalm 127: 3-5 Children are a blessing. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

  • Moses: A leader and provider for the nation of Israel. Interceeded and gave wisdom and instruction to the People.

  • Exodus 20:12 Honor your mother and father.

God Identifies himself as a Father

  • Lost Son God is the Father that waits for his Son to return. Luke 15
  • Jesus is my beloved Son

1 John 3:1 3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

God gives examples of Mothers and fathers teaching and training children.

  • “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you” (Deuteronomy 5:16).“
  • Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head, and a chain to adorn your neck” (Proverbs 1:8-9).

Mothers can pass on a spiritual legacy as well.

  • “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5).

God uses a mothers love as a picture of God's Love for his people.

  • “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13).
  • These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, Titus 2:4

Even if you had a Bad Mother, God is the best example:

  • “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15).
  • Picture of a mothers Love - Good and Bad. Two women with a dead baby taken before solomon.Then the king gave his ruling: ‘Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother’” (1 Kings 3:24-27). This story gives us insight into what the Bible says about mothers and one of the aspects of motherhood. In this instance, this mother protected the life of her son, even if it meant losing him to someone else. This story demonstrates the caring, compassion and love that is typically exhibited by mothers towards their children.

Mothers JobLife of Prayer for thier kids:

  1. Pray for protection, wisdom or thier kids
  2. Don't Give up on you kids
  3. Persistence through the stages of Child and teen, young adult: Not Permanent
  4. We see Mary at Jesus birth and at his death.

Being a mother is permanent, job of raising the child is temporary. Your responsibilities for the child changes over time - Instructor to supporter and encourager

It is important to understand the priority that family should have in the spiritual development of our children. Family plays an important part.

I. Introduction

  • God created the institution of family (Genesis 2:18-24)
  • Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
  • Family is a central theme throughout the Bible (Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Psalm 127:3-5, Ephesians 5:22-33)

II. The Importance of Family in the Old Testament

  • God established family relationships from the beginning (Genesis 1:27-28)
  • The family was the basic unit of society (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
  • The patriarchal structure of the family emphasized the role of the father as the spiritual leader (Genesis 18:19, Deuteronomy 6:1-9)

III. The Role of Family in the New Testament

  • Jesus affirmed the importance of family relationships (John 19:26-27)
  • The church is described as a family (Ephesians 2:19, 1 Timothy 3:15)
  • The family is a metaphor for our relationship with God (Ephesians 5:22-33)

IV. The Blessings of Family

  • Family provides a sense of belonging and identity (1 John 3:1, Galatians 3:26-29)
  • Family teaches us about love and sacrifice (John 15:13, Ephesians 5:2)
  • Family provides a space for spiritual growth and discipleship (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Acts 16:31)
  • Family provides a source of comfort and support (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Galatians 6:2)

As we look at the story of the resurrection, we see Jesus is dying to take away the sins of the world. Matthew 26-28, Mark 14-16, Luke 22-24, and John 18-21.

  • Jesus died willingly
  • He told Peter to put his sword away
  • He said he could call 10,000 angels to defend him

Response of the Disciples

  • Peter denied Christ 3 times and then went away in deep sorrow after he denied Christ. - If we have moments of weakness and denial of Christ there is redemption. God has prayed for you.
  • John went to the crucifixion and was standing at the foot of the cross with Mary and Mary Magdalene. - Stay with Jesus to the end there is always work to do. Allow your love to keep you close to Jesus no matter what.
  • Judas is the one that betrayed Jesus. He betrayed him with a kiss. Jesus went to give the money back. He later went out and killed himself. Matthew 27:3-5 - If you are discouraged at how things are happening. If you expected things to happen a different way trust that God has a plan and remain committed. You have never gone too far to turn around. Jesus can remove the guilt of your actions. Jesus' death is what caused us all to be saved, and our sins are taken away.
  • Thomas: Wanted asked questions and wanted to see and touch Jesus. God allowed him to see and touch him, then he taught us that it is possible to believe without touching. God can give you the faith to believe even if you don't see him.

Easter is a great time to share the Gospel

1 Cor 15:1-415 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

  1. Christ Died for our sins
  2. He was Buried, acknowledge and confirmed as dead
  3. Raised on the third day
  4. God's love and grace: The gospel message begins with the idea that God loves humanity and desires a relationship with us. This love is not based on our merit or good works, but is freely given to us as a gift of grace.
  5. Human sin and brokenness: The gospel message acknowledges that humanity is broken and separated from God due to sin. This sin has created a barrier between us and God, and has caused us to suffer and struggle in our lives.
  6. Jesus Christ as Savior: The gospel message proclaims that Jesus Christ came to earth as the Son of God, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. His death and resurrection made it possible for us to be reconciled to God and to receive eternal life.
  7. Repentance and faith: The gospel message calls for us to repent of our sins and turn towards God in faith. This involves confessing our sins, asking for forgiveness, and committing our lives to following Jesus.

Section 1: Recognizing Toxic Relationships

  • Definition of toxic relationships and examples (e.g. manipulation, control, abuse, constant drama)
    • Disrespectful relationships: Relationships where there is a lack of respect for each other can be unhealthy. This includes relationships where one person consistently disregards the other's feelings or opinions, or where there is a lack of mutual respect for each other's values and beliefs.
    • Abusive relationships: Physical, emotional, or psychological abuse is never acceptable in any relationship. It's important for Christians to recognize that abusive behavior is not God's plan for relationships and to seek help if they are experiencing abuse.
    • Unequally yoked relationships: Unequally yoked relationships refer to relationships between Christians and non-Christians. While it's possible for these relationships to work, they can be unhealthy if there is a lack of shared values and beliefs.
    • Codependent relationships: Codependent relationships are characterized by an unhealthy reliance on each other. This can manifest in many ways, such as one person being overly controlling or one person constantly needing validation from the other.
    • Dishonest relationships: Dishonesty can be toxic in any relationship. This includes relationships where one person consistently lies or withholds important information from the other.
  • Discussing common reasons why people stay in toxic relationships (e.g. fear, guilt, obligation)
  • Scripture reference: Proverbs 12:26 - "The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray."

What is Prosperity? To force entry, cut through, be successful

Does God Bless His People so that they prosper?

  • Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Esau, and Joseph all prospered.
  • Psalm 1:3 whatsoever he doeth shall prosper
  • Prayer of Jabez 1 Chronicles 4:9-10
  • Solomon had wealth and prosperity. 1 Chron 22:13

Don’t think its you, remember the Lord causes you to prosper. Deut 8:17-18

Wealth is not the only sign of God's favor. The wicked can have wealth too, but wealth is fleeting. Psalm 73, Jeremiah 12:1

Good and bad happen to God's people and both situations can come from God. Ecclesiastes 7:14, Phil 4:13

What does it profit to gain the world and lose your soul?

When does wealth and prosperity become evil?

  • When we love it. The love of money is evil. 1 Timothy 6:10, Hebrews 13:5
  • When prosperity turns you from God. (Deut 32:15) Jeshurun the “upright ones”
  • When you choose Money over God, you can't serve two masters. Luke 16:13
  • When your love of money causes you to reject the true gospel of Christ. 2 Peter 2:1-3

Wealth and prosperity can be a gift from God, but we must always prioritize the giver over the gift.

In this episode, let's get the keys to success. Should a Christian seek and desire success? yes. But only if it is good success!

Philippians 2:3-5 Warns us not to do anything out of selfish ambition and vain conceit.

Success: to reach one's expectations and reach a defined goal. If your goal is God's will, righteousness and goodness then every Christian should desire success in this area.

To be successful you must:

  1. Develop Godly mentality and habits: Joshua 1:7-8 - be careful to do all the law...mediate in it day and night.
  2. Keep the Lord With you - Gen 39:2 - Lord was with him and he was successful
  3. Walk in the call that God has for you. 1 Chronicles 22:11
  4. Daniel 6:28 - So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and Cyrus - Godly success is long-lasting

God also affirms that believers should also work hard

  • “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack hand will be put to forced labor” (Proverbs 12:24).
  • “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Timothy 5:8).
  • Develop a skill and it will bring you before kings and notable men.
    • “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men” (Proverbs 22:29).

If you combine working hard with working according to the purposes of God you will have good lasting success.

So the formula for good success = walking in God's way + working hard.

1. Check Your Motives. Evaluate our motives, Ps 139:23-24

Why do you want to go Black Friday shopping? Are you wanting to be a good steward of your time and money so you can give generously while still providing for your family's needs? Or is your desire to go Black Friday shopping fueled by greed, pride, or ego?

2. Contentment 1 Timothy 6:6 "Godliness with contentment is great gain"

Black Friday and Cyber Monday often turns our heart quickly from being thankful to discontent. Paul taught that God gives us the strength to be content in any circumstance.

3. Covetousness Luke 12:15, 34 Be on guard against greed…, where your treasure is, your heart is…

4. Charity - Acts 20:34 it is more blessed to give than to receive.

1 Tim 6:17-19 17As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

A good prayer for guidance

We can pray, "God, how would you like me to use the resources you have given me?" or "Please reveal any pride, selfishness, or greed in my heart and replace them with love, generosity, and Godly contentment."

Remember Christmas is about Jesus, The gifts at Christmas were given to Jesus. Let's remember the reason for the season.

Keys to facing the storms of life. Hurricane Ian landed as a category 4 Hurricane (sustained winds of 150 mph) on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Lee County. When the storms of life hit you you have to have some foundational truths that you can lean on. Today we will talk about what perspective to have as we face the storm.

Understand that storms come to everyone.

  1. Jesus tells us to build our house in the word of God to prepare for when the storms come. This way we don't suffer eternal loss. Matthew 7:24-27

  2. When storms and we are afraid look to Jesus for peace and salvation. Matthew 8:24-27 The disciples and Jesus were in the storm.

  3. Disciples were afraid, but Jesus was in the Boat

  4. Jesus spoke to winds and waves and the sea stopped.

  5. Disciples marveled

  6. Jesus will never desert us in the storm.

  7. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me,” declares Psalm 23:4.

  8. Jesus told His disciples, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). That was not an empty promise. Jesus knew that His disciples would face trials and hardships, so His final words addressed that coming reality with a promise to walk through each trial.

  9. “Where can I go from your Spirit?” David ponders in Psalm 139:7-10. “Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.”

  10. Suffering Creates Intimacy

  11. As Paul came to terms with the realization that God did not intend to relieve his thorn in the flesh, he also heard God telling him, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:8). In his pain, Paul needed God’s strength and comfort. He would never have known the magnificence and magnitude of God’s grace without that thorn.

2 Cor 12:8 - 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

  • Set an Appointment - First, go for consistency then depth. Relationships are built over time
    • Morning, Afternoon or Evening - Daniel prayed three times a day He was consistent with it.
    • As seasons change your time will change - I used to work night shift (afternoon, lunch time) Not a morning person.
    • Set the alarm on your phone to remind you.
  • Have a plan. Youversion bible plans, reading plans, Bible in a year., Chronological
  • Sneak bible moments (Audio bible (drive time or Carline), pick a verse to memorize a week, Kids practice pickup, teachable moments with kids - Keys for kids)

What if you haven't read in a while?

  • Don't allow fear, shame and guilt to stop you from reading God's word.

“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord…” Jeremiah 29:12-14a

  • Understand that there is no condemnation to them which are in christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

Condemnation is a verdict of guilt. Conviction is different, Conviction rebukes us or exposes our faults with the goal of awareness that leads to change or repentance.

  • Start today, right now. Go read. (Gospel of John, A psalm, Phillipians)
  • Reading is a discipline of the Christian faith you just have to do it.

  • Mary and Martha - Mary has chosen the good thing. Luke 10:38-42

Why Study the Bible

1. God promises to accomplish his purposes through his Word. [My word] shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)

In almost every studied culture, fathers have assumed three primary roles: the protector, the provider, and the disciplinarian. As believers, I believe there are additional requirements He has for fathers that are men of God. We will discuss additional roles for a Christian father.

Motivator: I find that my kids are not always self-motivated to reach their full potential in character, discipline, and spiritual growth.

Enforcer: A huge part of having a father in the home is having an enforcer in the home. Like it or not, kids naturally respond differently to male leadership, especially in the family. Dad being the main enforcer of family rules and boundaries at home also makes a mother’s job so much easier.

Encourager: Because children are born with a desire for their father’s approval and attention, one of the best ways to encourage them is to be their biggest cheerleader and their greatest fan.

Trainer: There are lessons and life skills your child will never learn apart from being taught. Part of the role of fatherhood is training our children to be good at life.

Counselor: Children don’t naturally know how to navigate the issues of life that are thrown at them. That’s because they’re kids—they’re adults in training. They regularly need direction, answers, and advice. Dad, strive to be your children’s chief counselor, their go-to for advice.

God characterizes himself as a Father and I believe God desires for men to be an image of their heavenly father. In today's episode, we cover the three roles most fathers understand. Today we talk about it.

In almost every studied culture, fathers have assumed three primary roles: the protector, the provider, and the disciplinarian.

  • Protector: Mom's traditional emphasis is that she wants to protect her child from getting hurt by forces from the outside world (e.g., bullies, strangers, mean dogs, accidents, disease).
  • Provider: As the role of provider, a father's ability to provide for his family is related to his sense of duty, his sense of identity, and his manhood.
  • Disciplinarian. Fathers want their children to succeed, to see what's on the horizon, to aspire to bigger and better things. As such, fathers need to be there to teach their children how to handle their impulses, how to stay calm under stress, and how to deal with situations where they don't endanger themselves or endanger others.

Learning how to embrace, steward, and sometimes endure our parents is a big indicator of our trust in the sovereignty and all the providences of God.

  • The Greek word for honor means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honor is giving respect not only for merit but also for rank.
  • An example of those that have rejected God is that they are disobedient to parents.
  • Romans 1:30 - 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
  • 2 Timothy 3:1-2 - But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

Is there ever a time to be disobedient to parents: When they instruct you to do things contrary to God's Word.

  • Ezekiel 20:18-19 - 18 “And I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor keep their rules, nor defile yourselves with their idols. 19 I am the Lord your God; walk in my statutes, and be careful to obey my rules,
  • If the commands or instructions clearly contradict scripture we are to obey God rather than man. Acts 5:29

Dealing with an abusive parent

  • God is working it together for good. Romans 8:28 - 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
  • God can give you a new heart. Ezekiel 36:26 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
  • We are to love those that don't seem to love us. Matthew 5:44-48 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
  • God calls us to be forgiving because we are forgiven. Eph 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
  • We are given forgiveness when we forgive. Matthew 6:14-15 - 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The command to honor and obey still has a promise on it! We are called to do it.

This week is for the children. The Bible tells us to honor Our mother and father for good reason and in this episode, we will learn all that following this command does that helps us live a happy successful life.

  • Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12). Old Testament

God created the process. Parents create and nurture life.

  • Honor God by honoring the parents he gave you.

Honoring parents is a picture and preparation for honoring God. Honoring parents builds deeper and wider channels in our hearts for honoring Him.

  • Honoring parents helps to establish a principle of honoring authority and anyone God placed over you. a child's "Honor instincts" are instilled at home and carries over:

  • In marriage Eph 5:22, 1 Peter 3:1

  • in Churches Hebrews 13:17, 1 Tim 5:17

  • Rulers and authorities 1 Peter 2:17

If we refuse to obey at home (or are never disciplined to obey), though, we will be that much more likely to disobey rulers, bosses, pastors, and ultimately God himself.

  • “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’” (this is the first commandment with a promise), (Ephesians 6:1–2).

  • Honor changes and matures as the child ages and matures.

  • Obedience and Submission is temporary. Temporary, because honoring our parents will mature over our lifetime. God has chosen for children to honor their parents differently than adults do.

  • “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord” (Colossians 3:20).

  • God is pleased when children obey.

This is commanded because it is not always easy. Honoring our parents will be hard at times, demanding, confusing, and sometimes even painful. If parents were always easy to love, we wouldn’t need commands to honor them.

How do you pray for your children?

Prayer for protection and safety. - Hedge of protection.

  • Psalm 17:8 ~ Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
  • Psalm 121:1-4 ~ I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven, and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
  • Psalm 125:2 ~ As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.
  • Psalm 139:5 ~ You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.
  • Job 1:10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

Prayer for their Future

  • Proverbs 22:6 ~ Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
  • Luke 2:52 ~ And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
  • Psalm 1:1-3 ~ Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. Pray for your Childs Salvation

  • 2 Peter 3:9 ~ The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
  • Isaiah 26:3-4 ~ You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself is the Rock eternal.
  • Philippians 1:6 ~ Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Resurrection day - Implications

  1. He secured your salvation by his death.

  2. 1 Peter 3:18 comforts us with these words, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.

  3. “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Rom. 6:8-11

  4. Shows that Jesus is the resurrection and the Life

  5. John 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

  6. John 11: 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

Application: Jesus can raise death things. Nothing is to far gone for Jesus to resurrect it.

  1. His resurrection proves that He has authority over death and can give eternal life.

  2. As 1 Corinthians 15:17 explains, “…if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”

  3. John 3:14-16 …14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16“For God so loved the world,i that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
  4. “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.” Romans 6:4-5

  5. “We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.” Romans 6:9

  6. His followers and disciples will live again just like Jesus lives again.

  7. Scripture assures that Christ is the “firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20) and that we who believe in Him as Lord and Savior will have eternal life.

  8. 1 Cor 15:42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

Application: Just as Jesus was given an earthly body for his time on earth, then was given a heavenly body for his time in heave so shall we.

  1. Jesus wants his disciples to know that the power of God can overcome anything.

  2. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” (Philippians 3:10-11 ESV)

  3. Application: Your suffer, but it is only temporary and in your suffering, you are experiencing a little of what Jesus suffered, but you will also experience the power of resurrection.

  4. Jesus is alive in heaven interceding for his children

  5. “Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Romans 8:34

We are continuing our study on the Names of God.

  1. YAHWEH-ELOHIM [yah-way-el-oh-him]: "LORD God" (Genesis 2:4; Psalm 59:5) – a combination of God’s unique name YHWH and the generic “Lord,” signifying that He is the Lord of Lords.
  2. YAHWEH-TSIDKENU [yah-way-tzid-kay-noo]: "The Lord Our Righteousness” Jeremiah 23:6 – As with YHWH-M’Kaddesh, it is God alone who provides righteousness (from the Hebrew word tsidkenu) to man, ultimately in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, who became sin for us “that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  3. YAHWEH-ROHI [yah-way-roh-hee]: "The Lord Our Shepherd" (Psalm 23:1) – After David pondered his relationship as a shepherd to his sheep, he realized that was exactly the relationship God had with him, and so he declares, “Yahweh-Rohi is my Shepherd. I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).
  4. YAHWEH-SHAMMAH [yah-way-sham-mahw]: "The Lord Is There” (Ezekiel 48:35) – the name ascribed to Jerusalem and the Temple there, indicating that the once-departed glory of the Lord (Ezekiel 8—11) had returned (Ezekiel 44:1-4).
  5. YAHWEH-SABAOTH [yah-way-sah-bah-ohth]: "The Lord of Hosts" (Isaiah 1:24; Psalm 46:7) – Hosts means “hordes,” both of angels and of men. He is Lord of the host of heaven and of the inhabitants of the earth, of Jews and Gentiles, of rich and poor, master and slave. The name is expressive of the majesty, power, and authority of God and shows that He is able to accomplish what He determines to do.
  6. El Emunah (Deut 7:9): The Faithful God - 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.
  7. Elohim Machase Lanu "Ma-hase"(Ps 62:8): God Our Refuge Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
  8. EL ELYON [el-el-yohn]: “Most High" (Deuteronomy 26:19) – derived from the Hebrew root for “go up” or “ascend,” so the implication is of that which is the very highest. El Elyon denotes exaltation and speaks of absolute right to lordship.
  9. EL ROI [el-roh-ee]: "God of Seeing" (Genesis 16:13) – the name ascribed to God by Hagar, alone and desperate in the wilderness after being driven out by Sarah (Genesis 16:1-14). When Hagar met the Angel of the Lord, she realized she had seen God Himself in a theophany. She also realized that El Roi saw her in her distress and testified that He is a God who lives and sees all.
  10. EL-OLAM [el-oh-lahm]: "Everlasting God" (Psalm 90:1-3) – God’s nature is without beginning or end, free from all constraints of time, and He contains within Himself the very cause of time itself. “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
  11. EL-GIBHOR [el-ghee-bohr]: “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6) – the name describing the Messiah, Christ Jesus, in this prophetic portion of Isaiah. As a powerful and mighty warrior, the Messiah, the Mighty God, will accomplish the destruction of God’s enemies and rule with a rod of iron (Revelation 19:15).

When Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:9 he said "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name." To hallow the name of God is to regard Him with complete devotion and loving admiration. In this episode, we want to share the names of God and share how they can be a source of encouragement in real life.

  1. EL, ELOAH [el, el-oh-ah]: God "mighty, strong, powerful, prominent" (Nehemiah 9:17; Psalm 139:19) – etymologically, El appears to mean “power” and “might” (Genesis 31:29).
  2. ELOHIM [el-oh-heem]: God “Creator, Mighty and Strong” (Genesis 17:7; Jeremiah 31:33) – the plural form of Eloah, which accommodates the doctrine of the Trinity. From the Bible’s first sentence, the superlative nature of God’s power is evident as God (Elohim) speaks the world into existence (Genesis 1:1).
  3. ADONAI [ˌædɒˈnaɪ; ah-daw-nahy]: “Lord” (Genesis 15:2; Judges 6:15) – used in place of YHWH, Adonai is the verbal parallel to Yahweh and Jehovah. Adonai is plural; the singular is adon.
  4. YHWH / YAHWEH / JEHOVAH [yah-way / ji-hoh-veh]: “LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4; Daniel 9:14) – strictly speaking, the only proper name for God. Translated in English Bibles “LORD” (all capitals) to distinguish it from Adonai, “Lord.” The revelation of the name is given to Moses “I Am who I Am” (Exodus 3:14). This name specifies an immediacy, a presence.
  5. YAHWEH-JIREH [yah-way-ji-reh]: "The Lord Will Provide" (Genesis 22:14) – the name memorialized by Abraham when God provided the ram to be sacrificed in place of Isaac.
  6. YAHWEH-RAPHA [yah-way-raw-faw]: "The Lord Who Heals" (Exodus 15:26) – “I am Jehovah who heals you” both in body and soul. In body, by preserving from and curing diseases, and in soul, by pardoning iniquities. Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
  7. YAHWEH-NISSI [yah-way-nee-see]: "The Lord Our Banner" (Exodus 17:15), where banner is understood to be a rallying place. This name commemorates the desert victory over the Amalekites in Exodus 17.
  8. YAHWEH-M'KADDESH [yah-way-meh-kad-esh]: "The Lord Who Sanctifies, Makes Holy" (Leviticus 20:8; Ezekiel 37:28) – God makes it clear that He alone, not the law, can cleanse His people and make them holy.
  9. YAHWEH-SHALOM [yah-way-shah-lohm]: "The Lord Our Peace" (Judges 6:24) – the name given by Gideon to the altar he built after the Angel of the Lord assured him he would not die as he thought he would after seeing Him.

  • Acts 2:9-10 - The Jewish pilgrims gathered at Pentecost included persons of African descent, notably the Elamites of Mesopotamia and those from Egypt, Libya, and Cyrene.
  • Acts 8:26-40 - The Ethiopian Finance Minister on a mission for the Queen of the Ethiopians, the Candace; he is baptized as perhaps the first non-Jew (an early tradition that rivals the baptism of Cornelius).
  • Acts 13:1 - Two of the four prophets and teachers at Antioch (where persons of the Way were first called Christians--11:26) were Africans, namely Lucius of Cyrene and Simeon who was called Niger, a Latinism for "the Black Man."
  • Acts 18:24,25 - Apollos, the Jew of Alexandria in North Africa, becomes converted (1 Corinthians 3).
  • 1 Corinthians 3:11 - Apollos, the African Preacher (he was from Alexandria on the Nile Delta.)

The Israelites were told that the words Moses was commanded to them should be on their hearts (Deuteronomy 6:6). In Psalm 1:2, the author talks about the need to meditate on God’s law all day and all night. Fast forward to the New Testament: Jesus tells us in John 15:7 to abide in his word.   1. Seek things which are above where Christ is - The call is to rise above
  2. Set your mind on things above not things on the earth. (What is the heavenly pattern?)
    1. You have died and are hidden in Christ - So Christ is your life

At the beginning of the new year, I often clean out the garage and the closet. During this time I put things away.

Now that I have my tax bill or utility thing I can go to the dump! God has given us the things to put away.

New Apparel

What are earthly things to put away

  1. Sexual immorality - Fornication
  2. impurity
  3. passion - lust
  4. evil desires
  5. covetousness - greed
  6. idolatry

What else to put away

  1. anger : Violence
  2. wrath: rage
  3. malice : Hateful feelings, malicious actions
  4. Slander
  5. Obscene talk: Filthy language
  6. Lying

New self is renewed in knowledge after the image of it creatorRemove national (Jew or Greek), Religious, Cultural (Barbarian, Scythian), Social or economic (bond or free)

3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

Here is what to put on in yourself and among the Body of Christ

  1. Compassion

  4. patience
  5. Bearing with one another: Being patient, enduring possible difficulty, holding oneself up against
  6. Forgiving each other
  7. Put on Love
  8. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts - God can grant peace, "my peace I leave with, not the peace that the word gives, dont be troubled don't be afraid.
  9. Be thankful

Let the Word dwell in you richly

  1. Teaching and admonishing in wisdom
  2. Singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs
  3. Do everything in the name of the Lord

The holidays are here and many will face the reality that around Turkey dinners and Christmas trees some people may be missing.

Grief and morning is normal and encouraged

It is okay to be sad over the Lost of the relationship. Separation hurts.

  • Mt 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted
  • John 11:35 Jesus Wept
  • Job 2:13 Others can morn with you. At first Job’s friends just sat with him
  • Gen 23:2 Abraham mourned for his wife Sarah.

The type of death suffered often impacts the morning process.

  • Gen 37:34-35 Jacob mourned for his son thinking he was dead.Genesis 37:34–35 (ESV): 34 Then Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days. 35 All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted and said, “No, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.” Thus his father wept for him.

God will renew Your Strength

  • Psalm 119:28 (ESV): 28 My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!
  • Isaiah 40:29–31 (ESV): He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Don’t ignore the missing member, embrace it.

  • Share a fun memory
  • Hang their favorite ornament or play a Christmas song they enjoyed
