Big show coming your way with news from marathons in Manchester, Rotterdam and Boston. There's some domestic action to catch up on too, including Shane's performance in the Lincoln 10k.
This week we are joined by 2:14 marathon man, Ross Braden as he builds in to Copenhagen marathon. He gives us plenty of insights into his training weeks and his hot tip for London marathon this weekend.
Enjoy
IJP boys
We’re just about back for another week, but thanks to a scheduling issue (which was me watching Ipswich on Easter Monday), we’re a little late in bringing this one to you.
As publicised last week we have a big return on the podcast this week. The man that everyone has been waiting to hear from is back to answer some questions, such as what's the yield of his pear tree been like this year...
Hi everyone, we're back again, and this time we're bigger, stronger and more enthusiastic than ever (well maybe 1/3 of those).
The gang is nearly all back and reunited, but Josh can only give us a quick 10 min catchup, so we thought we'd loan in Run it Three Ways podcast hope and GB international athlete, Callum Elson to hold the fort and provide some quality to the show.
For those wanting the return of Clowesy, well you'll have to wait until next week, but the juggernaut will be back on to give us his life updates.
So for now, enjoy us quizzing Callum on his meteoric rise in the sport and his social media presence. Enjoy Shane talking us through his quest to get back to 1500m running, and also enjoy Aaron's plans for becoming a full time athlete when baby number 2 arrives in May.
Thanks for listening and sticking with us.
Much love,
IJP boys
Episode 117 is here. There's news from the States where we saw a couple of sub 13, 5k performances from Brits. There’s a fast marathon in Osaka to cover, plus we will do the usual segments and even dip into a social media rant of the week. Josh is well and truly over his blip in his marathon buildup with a big session this week.Shane is just about over the tiredness that has followed him around the last few monthsWhile, Aaron isn't quite over Ipswich being beaten by Maidstone last weekend. Have a good one, IJP boys.
Welcome to episode 116 of the Inside Jogging Podcast, thanks for tuning in for another week . Josh goes racing in Spain, well sort of. He decides to pace the lead women at Santa Pola and was the main contributor to the lead lady taking a tumble at 15k.Shane is building back up slowly and introduces a run that will surely never catch on, the Friday night long run. While Aaron is trying to find some motivation and to do so hires a new coach, with the target of running a flat out 3k next week. Thanks for listening. IJP boys
After a short break we're back to talk all things running, including the World Record 10k from Valencia. We recap what we've been up to over the past few weeks. Josh has passed some exams and been out in Spain putting in some miles. Shane has been doing all-nighters again, while Aaron is just searching for a sensible baby name. We'll be back again next Weds. Kind Regards,Shaun, Big Ron and Joshy.
A week which promised so much, but delivered very little.
Aaron joined Shane as a DNS for Malaga marathon, after a virus knocked him out of action.
Josh went to Telford to race the 10k and stretch the legs, but in the end couldn't move out of marathon gear.
Here's to a better 2024...
IJP boys
Welcome to episode 113 of the Inside Jogging Podcast, some big marathon news to catch up on this week with records going down in Valencia, plus we cover the final preperations as Aaron prepares for Malaga marathon this weekend. Josh has an easy week for once post half marathon and pre Telford 10k, and isn't too pleased about how wet it has been of late. Shane has a week off and despite saying he has been "going to the gym" the other lads aren't too pleased to learn that this means he has been once. While, Aaron is in his final preperations ahead of Malaga and isn't too pleased about his mind starting to wander and goal creep becoming a thing. Have a good week, IJP boys
A quieter week on the racing front, but our own Joshua Lunn was in action in Paris racing over half marathon. Josh has a disappointing race to recap, and even talks us through an injury sustained by bag carrying. Shane has disappointing news as he announces he will be a DNS on the startline of Malaga after he hasn't recovered from his hamstring injury. While Aaron has no disappointment for once and looks forward to his taper now the main bulk of the block is over. Have a good week, IJP boys
Welcome to episode 111 of the Inside Jogging Podcast, thanks for downloading another show and choosing to listen to us for the next 60 mins or so, whether you’re out for a run, or doing some weights like our old friend Clowesy, hopefully we can keep you entertained whatever you’re up to.We cover the latest news and have all the usual segments you've come to expect. Shane is struggling with his hammy and debating whether he will start the marathon. Josh is pushing the mileage and debating whether he can be in PB shape next week in Paris. While Aaron is trying to clear a cold and debating whether his running life will be over once the second child arrives in May. Thanks for listening.
Shorter week this one, with less running news to catch up on than usual. Aaron and Shane are less than four weeks out from Malaga marathon now, but both have some minor issues to overcome this week. While, Josh is back in the hundred mile week club, and getting those miles in later in the day than usual.
Sorry for missing last week, the boys catch up on the last few weeks of action and go through what they've been up to for the last 14 days.
Episode 108 is here. A less busy weekend on the racing front, but still there’s Valencia half and Leeds Abbey Dash to cover. We’ve got all our usual segments, which will definitely include a listener question or two this week! Josh turns up late after already delaying the recording 24 hours...
A crazy busy weekend of racing to roundup this week with news from another super fast British women’s marathon time over in the States, there’s the Amsterdam marathon to talk about, alongside the Great South Run, Peterborough Half, Manchester Half, Bath Half and loads more! Josh returns to racing with a solid outing at the Great South Run, his short choice is questionable though. Shane goes to Peterborough half as he continues his build to Malaga, it's fair to say he finds the last three miles a bit of a struggle. While Aaron is back to a 100 mile week, featuring a 25 mile long run, however his roundup 600m to get him above 100 for the week goes against his recent rant about rounding up. Have a good week.IJP
Welcome to episode 106, the small event of another marathon world record to discuss this week as we talk all things Chicago, plus there’s all the action for the National Road Relays to cover. Kelvin Kiptum's two-hour run needs a debrief so we're here with all the facts you need to know (and many you don't). Shane and Aaron managed to hook up for a midweek session of 8 x 1k on/off or if you prefer 16k in/out, or if you prefer 16k wave tempo. Josh is back into the mileage and also playing games that are usually reserved for the playground, but I suppose that is the level to match his mental age. Enjoy IJP
Episode 105 is here and there's plenty to cover with news from the inaugural world running road champs in Riga alongside the usual segments such as our training week recaps and a listener question or two.
This week we are joined live on the show by Dublin Half Marathon winner, Aoife Cleary. Aoife might not be a name you’re too familiar with, but in winning the Dublin half marathon the weekend before last wearing what looked like a floral yellow jacket, pink headband and beats style headphones, she certainly made an impression.
We ask her all about her unique approach to running and even convinced her to come out to Malaga in December to run the half.
Enjoy
IJP boys
A crazy week in the world of running with an astonishing new women's marathon world record in Berlin. We do our best to recap all the action from the week along with all the usual segments.
Episode 103 is here. Loads of action to recap with the final of the diamond league in Eugene, a fast half marathon in Copenhagen, 10k action from Swansea and a swift 5k in Battersea. Josh ramped up his training again this week and despite an achilles scare managed his biggest week to date in his comeback. Shane got locked out of his car after a wedding, so can only detail a solid Monday to Friday of training. While Aaron returns to back to the top of the IJP hosts mileage leaderboard, which encouragingly showed some signs of fitness starting to take shape. Thanks for listening. IJP boys
Plenty to talk about this week with news from Mo Farah’s finale at the Great North Run, British wins at the Fifth Avenue mile in New York, and a roundup of some late-season track action.
Josh is back in action at the Welsh Relays and despite the heat, he battled his way to a respectable finishing team and helping his team to a podium finish.
Shane continues his build up to Malaga and despite the dew point being high he cracks through a decent enough week of training.
Aaron reverts to his old way and misses a couple of days of training, but despite the humidity he backloads his week without too many issues.
Have a good one.
IJP boys
Episode 101 is here and much like the 100 before it, we're back to chat some more nonsense about all things running.
Aaron is back up towards 90 miles of running this week. Much like every other week that means a session at the cricket pitch and a session on the tready.
Josh continues his build back towards his first race back. Much like every other week that means absolutely smashing a session and calling it "threshold" pace.
Shane gets some more base miles done in his build for Malaga marathon. Much like every other week that means running a bit hungover and getting to 90 mins of a long run and realising he doesn't have the mental capacity to cope with much more.
Have a good week.
IJP boys
Not featuring Clowesy, he will be on soon!
Shane is king of the mileage this week, but combined the boys run over 200 miles for the first time in a while.
Josh's recovery to fitness is going to plan and he announces his first race in the comeback.
Aaron has nearly completed a whole month of running and is busy buying any recovery product going to make his old legs faster.
A big week in the world of running to catch up on as the world champs kicked off in Budapest. Whilst we recorded, the men's 1500m final was on so we cut to that live mid-show! Josh is increasing the volume and intensity with a couple of solid sessions, he also makes a flying visit home to attend a family BBQ.
Shane is increasing his aerobic volume with some lengthy sessions at around marathon intensity and a decent long run.
Aaron is increasing his time spent with Eliza racking up the mileage around the zoo. He at least runs every day to continue that streak.
Have a good one.
IJP
This week there's a roundup of the domestic action, including some fast 5k’s in Cardiff, Gateshead and Manchester. Plus, we look ahead to the upcoming World Champs which start on Saturday.
Josh is building his mileage slowly and even does an easy run this week where his first mile is slower than a 7:30, he quickly dismisses it though and finishes with a 5:30 mile.
Shane has had a terrible week, probably due to his crazy week of running the week before last. He decides to take a few days off and contemplate how he's going to cope as he progresses through his 30s.
Aaron is the king of the mileage again, but has a disrupted weekend and can't complete another 70-odd mile week. He does manage to run every day of the week again, so that's 18 days of continuous running now.
Enjoy
IJP boys
A quieter week once again on the racing front, but we've got all the usual segments, including training recaps, a Strava moan, a couple of listener questions and a roundup of all the latest news.
Shane has been busy this week completing the race double that has surely never been attempted before in history. 24 miles during the three peaks on Tuesday and then Bassy Bash 5 miler on Saturday - no surprise that his legs are shot by Sunday.
Josh fails to connect to his main cycling race on Saturday lunchtime, so resorts to attempting a double race instead - no surprise that his heart rate goes above threshold during his long run the following day.
Aaron completes a full week of running for the first time in forever, which includes a few double days and 25 min runs inspired by his hero Joshua Lunn - the big surprise here is he doesn't get ill this week.
Have a good one.
IJP
Things have all gone a bit quiet in the world of athletics, with the World championships only a few weeks away.
Shane has been racing over 5k this week and is pleasantly surprised at the result. He has also been running up a few hills and reveals his next challenge (which has already happened by the time this show comes out).
Josh continues his build back to fitness with another progression to the volume of his session. He may or may not get a little carried away with the pace on the reps and on the float, what do you reckon happens?
Aaron quits the sport on Tuesday, but is back in action by Thursday and has some positive improvements by the weekend.
Enjoy.
IJP boys
Back again for another week, plenty to talk about this week with two diamond leagues to catch up on. Including some ridiculously fast times in Monaco and some exciting racing in London. Plus, we’ve got all of the other usual bits and pieces to chat about with a recap of our training weeks, a listener question or two to answer.
A big episode coming at you with news of some fast action from Europe on the track. Plus, we look at Kipchoge's decision to race in Berlin and look ahead to Monaco and London diamond league action this coming week.
Josh somehow managed to pass his latest accountancy exam and inspired by the Tour he continues to push his limits on the bike.
Shane is adding a little bit of intensity to his weeks and we get into why he runs his sessions at a slightly more dialled-back intensity than most do.
Aaron is back in some form and is hoping for a gradual improvement and hopes to finally start his journey towards some respectability in Malaga.
Have a good one.
The boys are back after a brief hiatus due to Aaron being poorly in Florence.
Josh is smashing plenty of Zwift action on the bike and has even been doing some virtual racing over the last couple of weeks.
Shane is getting a little bit of consistency together in his running, he just needs to sort his life management out now.
Aaron is... you know what, I can't be bothered to type it again.
Plenty of chat around doping this week, British champs and Just Stop Oil protests.
Enjoy
We're a bit late again, probably no need to explain as you can no doubt guess why.
Anyway, Shane managed a 10k race last week, which was good, but his run the following day was the opposite in more ways than one.
Josh is in love with cycling, he's gone full Tour de France mode and is challenging for all sorts of Zwift crowns on Strava.
Surprise, surprise, Aaron is ill again (might just copy and paste this into the footnotes of every episode), so he gets grilled by Shane and Josh on his silly approach to a comeback.
Have a good one.
IJP boys
Apologies for the delay, on recording Aaron mentioned he wouldn't have another poor training week, but he's gone and got Laryngitis... so this is a bit late in coming out again!
In an uneventful running week for the boys, luckily there's plenty to talk about from the likes of the Paris Diamond League, where three world records went!
Josh is slowly getting back to some running, but he's also hopping on and off trains during this episode, so he's brief with the details.
Shane is doing some consistent running, but making sure he's being sensible with his knee still causing him some bother. Although, his ginger skin didn't enjoy the warmer temps on his Saturday run, so he should probably be sensible and skip summer running completely.
While Aaron has decided the only way he is going to get some motivation is to enter Malaga marathon live on the show, but he even gets distracted and fails to do that...
Have a good week.
Sorry, later than planned this week. So I'll release it without too much waffle.
Josh is on the road to recovery and back in the gym, he gives insightful analysis into how best to run in Crocs.
Aaron has done a week of sessions and very little easy running, but on a rare easy run this week he gets chased by a badger.
While, Shane is king of the mileage for a second week in a row, but still thinks he's in the worst shape of the lot.
Have a good one.
IJP boys
Another big show coming your way and this week we're joined by Phily Bowden fresh off her 2:29 clocking on Copenhagen. She talks us through the race, her training and her life as a content creator/athlete with Team NB Manchester. Josh has progressed a little this week and he can now wear trousers and even manages to do some strength testing with the physio, if you can call it "strength" that is. Shane is back doing sessions, but has some bowel problems as he tries to return to some intensity in his running week. While Aaron is still moaning about long Covid, zzzzzzz. Have a good week, Much love IJP
Finally, we are back. Apologies for missing last week, Aaron left his charger at home when he was away at a conference. This week we chat through the Night of the 10000m PBs, how far down doping goes in the sport, and talk through Josh's eventful fortnight.Josh had a nasty fall on his bike last week, so is trying to recover from the cuts and bruises he suffered.Shane had a nasty hangover on Sunday, so is trying his best to recover and decide whether he has cracked his alcorithm.Aaron has had a nasty reaction to one pint of beer and is trying to work out if it's possible to ever get some consistency back in his running ever again. Thanks for listening.
Big week in the British royal family scene with that coronation thing going on in London. With Shane and Josh sidelined Aaron seizes his opportunity to reclaim the title of King of the pod. We chat through all the usual segments, answering some listener questions on how to not lose toenails and why maybe some people train better than they race. Josh is only running fast because that's apparently what is best for his Achilles, while Shane can't run fast or really at all because his shin is sore. This leaves Aaron to talk through one of his biggest mileage weeks in years, featuring three cricket pitch sessions, what a treat for you all. Have a good weekIJP boys
It's been a quieter week in the world of running, so we focus discussions this week on that post marathon lull. So, if you want to find out the optimum number of beers to consume post race then stay tuned. Josh is feeling a little down still, and with a pair of sore Achilles to his name, he is considering dusting off the bike in the search of some PB's and Strava segments in the saddle. Shane is trying to get some consistency back into his weeks and this week decides that the boys need to all get on the track for a 3000m smackdown. Aaron somehow has the highest mileage for the week and is back running around in circles at his beloved cricket pitch. He's a happy man too (well as happy as he ever can be) after seeing Ipswich clinch promotion. Have a good week all. IJP boys
It's been a huge week in British distance running as thousands took to the streets of London to run 26.2 miles, well at least some of them managed it anyway. Huge shame that Josh had to call things a day just before 20 miles, after experiencing some hamstring issues, but he puts on a brave face to talk us through his race and week leading into it. Shane hasn't been running whatsover, while Aaron also doesn't do too many miles but feels inspired after watching the action unfold from the roadside in London. There's some urinal chat on this episode, but please don't follow the hygiene advice from Josh or what Aaron details about a previous world record holder. If you ran London, hope you enjoy this while having a beer or two, recover well and we will be back again next week. IJP boys
Evening all, another big episode is here. Plenty of news to talk through with talk of Kipchoge in Boston and Naomi Mitchell (Campbell) in Manchester. Shane has been pacing/flat out racing at Lincoln 10k and got the best seat in the house to see Abbie Donnelly go 11th on the all time British 10k rankings. Aaron has been busy dodging the wind indoors and out, and even had to hurdle his laptop while on the treadmill this week. While Josh is busy finalising his prep for London and feels like he is barely running, despite a couple of final sessions being ticked off. Enjoy
Another episode is here! As we all enjoyed the long Easter weekend, @shane.robinson91 fully immersed himself in the spirit of things, by attempting to break 16 at @parkrunuk dressed as the Easter bunny.
@josh_lunn begins his taper and talks us through his last real marathon session now he's back to reality in the UK and has to deal with the cold, wet, windy weather like the rest of us.
While @aaronscottruns spent Good Friday getting into an altercation with a horse and his backup Heron friend was of no assistance whatsoever.
Thanks for listening.
Another episode is here, and there's plenty to discuss. The marathon season kicked off in Paris and Brighton, plus there's news of another British record on the roads. Josh is busy putting in some monster sessions, including a 14 miler on Sunday which puts him in about 1:59 marathon shape.Shane is back on the grind and thanks to his background of walking on his runs, he is well versed on the history and correct terminology for the canal paths in Lincoln. While Aaron, has yet again done very little running and spends 75 mins this week trying to record the show with Eliza refusing to go to bed. Thanks for listening!
Another big week coming your way with episode 80. We've got a couple of big news items to discuss with the news of the Zane Robertson bust and World Athletics ruling on transgender athletes. Aaron has been ill again, so sounds even more depressed than normal. Shane has been battling the wind and managing to crack 7 minute mile average for the week. While Josh is trying to be sensible despite the odd achilles ache. He manages a 24 miler on Sunday and has plenty to moan about when it comes to his drinks man. Thanks for listening!
Another week, another ridiculous 7 days from Josh Lunn. He's knocked off 7 x 3k off a 1k float and a monster 16 mile block within his long run. He's also benefitting from the big aero gains from his new haircut. Aaron tries and fails to complete a week while solo parenting and spends more time talking about Eliza being sick than he does running. While Shane hasn't slept for nearly 36 hours, so I'm not even sure how he had the cognitive function to recall his week. Have a good one!
Episode 78 is here, I will write an intro when I have a chance, for now, settle back and enjoy.
A big show with news of British records over 10000m and 10 miles, marathon action from Tokyo, a roundup of the European indoors, plus plenty of domestic road races to cover.
Shane isn't feeling overly positive after another stitch causes another disappointing performance at the Trafford 10k. He's back to searching for answers on how best to rectify it.
If you don't like toilet chat, it might be best advised to skip Josh's week, after he has some big issues after a coffee and a croissant. He does pull himself together to race in Rome and is pleased despite it not being a sub-60 clocking.
While Aaron has recorded back-to-back 70+ mile weeks and still has not missed a day of running. He's busy meeting up with listeners for an easy run and pondering life alone for 10 days with a 2-year-old.
Have a good one.
IJP boys
Episode 76 is here and there's plenty to discuss from the national xc and some British records on the boards. The biggest news is that all three of us managed to run every day of last week. We realise Shane and Josh do this every week, so Aaron has finally cracked running every day for the week for the first time since we can remember. He's fully on board the Shane Robinson programme and despite pushing the boundaries a little, he's mainly behaved. Josh is smashing some big sessions out in Spain and reports on his monster 22k session, where he averages 5:08 per mile, whilst running in and out k's. He also runs 24 miles in the mid-day heat and instantly regrets that decision. While Shane is feeling a little burnt out and hopes an easier week in the lead up to Trafford 10k will sort him out. He semi manages a big track session, but bemoans some pace judgment from his 'mates'. Enjoy, and have a good week.
Big show coming your way with lots of results to cover this week.
Shane has been racing down in London and despite not getting a stitch he isn't going to use any other soft excuses to justify his sub par performance.
Josh is now over in Spain, for six weeks (alright for some), but spent most of his week running laps of Battersea park at sub 6s. He has a big midweek marathon pace run to talk us through, as well as answering why Normatec are his go-to for recovery.
Aaron has just about recovered from his outing at the 30k and this week has a positive outlook on things...
We also cover some thoughts from Seville, which might interest a few of you.
Enjoy
Another episode is here! This week we discuss some super fast times in Armagh and America, plus have a chat about World XC in Australia and what real XC looks like!
Shane is tapering off ahead of his 5k attempt on Battersea this Friday evening and enjoys a big fartlek session with his boys.
Josh is still smashing the miles at pace and this week he goes up to 24 miles at sub 6s.
While Aaron attempts something very stupid at the Stamford 30k and pays the price for it.
Enjoy
IJP
Episode 73 is here and it's got all the usual, plus we take a look at the London marathon women's elite field announcement. We also wade into the super shoe debate, with some factual evidence from our resident sports scientist. Josh is back doing three decent sessions this week but realises that trying to survive off fish and rice cakes between sessions isn't sufficient fuelling.Shane is still doing his secret marathon training and takes the Lincoln boys out for another big midweek session. He also recommends that when trying to run a 2:14 800m rep, you should try to avoid having to circumnavigate riders on horseback. Aaron finally recovers from his illness, but suffers some severe doms from a 30 min run, he's got Stamford 30k next week so is hoping he can go from 20 miles a week back up to 80 miles without doing any damage. Thanks for listening.
Episode 72 is here and although it's a shorter show, we've packed plenty into the 60 mins of recording. The boys discuss the men's elite start list in London, as well as a preview of the British women who will toe the line in April. @Josh Lunn is back running and as always pushing the pace on his "easy" runs. He has a disgusting-looking scab on his knee and his ribs are still a little sore, but he's back. @Shane Robinson looks like he's secret marathon training with his big midweek session and long run this week. While @Aaron Scott is once again on the sick list, might as well start calling him Darren Anderton. Thanks for listening! Aaron, Shane and Josh
Epsiode 71 is here and if you skip to the end the boys discuss the results of Instagram post last week, where we asked you for your favourite shoe before the super shoe era. However, if you skip to that you'll miss our weekly updates.Josh is on the mend after his little trip (and fall) in Valencia. He still can't resist pushing it hard on the cross trainer though! Shane is banking some solid training ahead of his next big race and recruits the new and the older generation for his Sunday long run. While Aaron has recorded his biggest week of training for a long time.We discuss some listener questions and go through some results, if you have any suggestions for what else you want us to cover then please let us know. Thanks for listening,IJP boys
It's a bumper show as we waffle on about the events that occurred in Valencia this weekend. We had two men on the ground (literally) and Josh gives his detailed insight into life on the floor in Spain. However, before we get to that discussion there are plenty of other things we need to cover this week, including the big coaching debate that's raged across social. Aaron and Shane do their best to unpack the online running coaching community and how they both believe it has its place. There's also a fourth co-host who makes an appearance at some point, and we left it in because at 10pm it's too much effort to find it and edit it out! Thanks for the support, Aaron, Shane and Josh.
Evening, episode 69 is here for you and it's a big one. The boys chat through the XC action from the weekend as well as looking ahead to Valencia 10k and the Boston marathon women's field looks stacked. We answer some serious listener questions, as well as some odd ones too, such as if you could only take one outfit for a race weekend, and had to race in it all, what would it be? Josh has cracked through a big 100-mile week but leaves his girlfriend for dead during his 20 mile long run with his new best friend.Shane is on the mend and is now confident he has a shot at a sub-40 in Valencia. While Aaron manages 30 odd miles and is convinced his 5000 mile year is back on track. Have a good week. IJP boys
That's right none of this New Year, new you nonsense, it's still the same old us. Josh is carrying on with his motto of run, don't jog and despite staying up until 5am on New Year's eve (on the computer, not out), he still managed a good 18mi at sub 6s. Shane caught the sickness via the airwaves from Aaron and had to back out of his intended session. While Aaron managed for the second week this year, and probably the 2nd week in the last 15 years, a week where he didn't record a single run. Here's to a big 2023. IJP boys This week's show is sponsored by Delta Hat, job links below: https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/CWE323/statistician-evidence-based-medicine https://uk.indeed.com/cmp/Delta-Hat/jobs?jk=8226a73d2826a708&start=0&clearPrefilter=1
The boys have taken a break from mince pie action to finally record the pod this week. Aaron had to delay it longer than usual as he spent most of the Christmas period in bed with yet another illness. Shane suffered a similar fate, which turns out was karma for him being so cocky about escaping illness for 11.5 months in 2022. While Josh did the running for the group and finished his week off with a race at Ribble Valley. Callum Elson sums up Josh's race experience perfectly: "Nothing is certain in life except death, taxes and Josh Lunn going off too hard in races"
After a freezing week in the UK, the boys are back to discuss another week of running. Josh is back in the 100 mile week club but faces some questioning from Shane and Aaron as to why he runs so hard on his "easy" runs. Shane has a positive Mon to Sat post-Telford, but let it slip a little with a night out and bailing on his on Sunday long run. While Aaron is up to very little as per usual. Happy Christmas everyone.IJP boys
Shane and Josh manage to navigate the terrible weather to make their way to Telford, but fail to navigate all 10k of the actual course. The boys recap their weeks and we talk through the action from the Euro XC champs in Italy. Thanks for the support.IJP boys
Better late than never, we're finally here. A few busy nights for the boys so recording got delayed, but it meant we were able to be joined by Karl Welborn fresh off of Valencia marathon.
We talk all things Valencia and preview Shane and Josh's 10k race in Telford.
Forget Emily in Paris, we sent Josh Lunn over to do a half marathon and then catch the sites of Paris this week. Solid run out from Josh and he talks us through his lead-up to the race and some language barrier hurdles he had to navigate.
Shane has knocked out another consistent training week in his build to Telford and manages to include a couple of Dad jokes in his training roundup.
Aaron hit a 5k time trial hard and it ruined him for the rest of the weekend, which included a trip to go pick out his Christmas tree.
We round up the results from the Euro XC trials in Liverpool and talk through all the usual segments.
Enjoy,
IJP boys
Karl talks us through his week of training which ends with just two weeks to go until race day. Lighter week of training for Karl with the Derby 10mi "multi-terrain" race to finish it off.
Karl also answers the listener's questions that are all related to the taper and race day.
Enjoy, well the best you can.
Episode 62 is here, big show coming at you as we roundup the weeks results, go deep into a listener question, Josh has got his session of the week and we’ve all got plenty of running in our weeks to talk about for once.
We give our top 5 songs to listen to on a run, with a couple of questionable choices from all three of the hosts.
Josh is a couple of weeks out from Paris half and bangs out 16k of in and out k reps around Battersea park. He's been jumping on the treadmill with the truly awful weather continuing.
Shane has knocked out another consistent week and got all excited after a quick 2k rep at the end of his session midweek, he got so giddy that he's gone and entered Telford 10k.
Aaron has also been entering races with the hope of getting a qualifying time for the championship start at London 2023. He's been on the treadmill again, but showing signs of improvement!
Episode 6 is here, short and sweet this week. Two interviewers pop in, both with equal IQ and mental age, to ask Karl some terrible questions.
Another big week in the bank for Karl, despite a bit of setback on his Sunday morning marathon session. Just over two weeks until the big dance, will try and get some other Brits, who are heading over to Valencia, on the show in the next couple of weeks.
The boys are back for another week, which has been a quieter week on the racing front.
Josh has finally experienced what some might call tiredness and wasn't able to hit all his target splits on his Thursday session. He was given an easy weekend by the coach, which he filled with 28 miles of steady/tempo running. He's also learnt what GAP is on Strava.
Shane has been battling the dark nights but producing some decent numbers even if you have to take his dodgy loop with a pinch of salt. No drinking stories this week, but he has been jumping out of bushes to scare people.
Aaron has managed another week of solid mileage, even if he is doing all his sessions on the treadmill as he's too soft to battle the elements. He needs help with his cat flap though, as his energy bill is definitely going to breach the price cap.
Thanks for listening,
Aaron, Shane & Josh
Karl is back for another week and it's been a big week of running. 12 x 1k on Tuesday, backed up by some 20 min reps on Thursday and a big marathon session at the weekend.
Only 4 weeks of work to go until the big dance, sub 2:20 is on!
Another big week coming at you.
Shane has been racing at the English XC relays in Mansfield, but succumbed to a few too many bevvies post-race which made his long run a rough one.
Josh has actually been rather sensible in the last week or so, but is still moaning about getting wet every day.
While Aaron has completed a week of running, and moans about people checking their watches during a cross country race.
Have a good week,
Aaron, Josh & Shane xoxo
Episode 4 of our chat with sub 2:20 hopeful Karl Welborn. Karl is back on it with a 100+ mile week including a 10k win mid long run on Sunday. No glute issues this week, and he answers some quick fire questions from the listeners.
Hopefully we don't cause any more car crashes this week!
Episode 59 is live. The boys discuss their running weeks, well Shane and Josh do, as Aaron has been poorly once again.
Shane is now the fastest runner on the pod after his performances at Lincoln 10k, while Josh has been getting wet, and it turns out he has been contributing to his own dampness too...
We discuss marathon training session structure, why you don't need to smash out sessions every week and why children's 2nd birthday parties should be cancelled.
Have a lovely week,
Aaron, Josh and Shane.
Karl is back again and he details his shocker at Valencia half as well as talking through his last seven days of training.
He also answers all the big questions that you've sent in, like does he prefer red or brown sauce? Stay tuned for how to potentially make pink sauce, if either of us can remember that is.
Big week in running with some fast times in Valencia Half from Emile Cairess and closer to home over 10k in Leeds.
Josh has been racing and getting very wet, Shane has been getting very wet too and trying to stay upright, while Aaron has also been getting wet and of course he ends up being ill.
Enjoy the show,
Aaron, Shane and Josh
Karl is back to talk us through his running week and discuss what sounds like a painful week of running. He talks us through his shoe rotation, why he chose Valencia for the attempt and gives us the lowdown on the locations he's been using for his sessions this week.
We're back for another week. Enjoy Shane, Josh and Aaron talk through their running week, answering some listener questions, and going through some big stories from last week in the world of running.
2:14 man Ross Braden pops along for a chat about his breakthrough performance in London, and what his training looked like in the buildup. Apologies to Ross, for messing up his initial intro, for a phone call coming in halfway through and for insulting his running career and his running style. I'm sure more people will want an interview with this kind of professionalism...
Hope you enjoy an intro into Karl Welborn, a basketballer turned runner who doesn't know what week we're in. Bad timing for the show, as Karl has a niggle which meant a lot of XT this week (inspired by his hero Josh Lunn). However, we go into Karl's approach to marathon training and his lack of knowledge of some of the greats in the sport.
Team news. With @mattclowesy out and in the process of “getting big” we are back, but with a new co host. Look I know a lot of you only tuned in for Clowesy, but please go easy on @shane.robinson91 who I know will not go easy on @josh_lunn.
Shane is a top lad, top runner and founder of @activeedgesportstherapy. He will be sure to bring some valuable insight to the show each week, alongside the moans of @aaronscottruns and the madness that is @josh_lunn @mattclowesy has promised to pop by now and again with a segment or two and who knows he may well be back in the future if this all goes terribly.
See you all on Friday, for our bonus sub 2:20 Valencia show with @karl_welborn
Much love, and thanks for the patience. IJP boys xoxo
As you’ve probably seen from the show length and title, a shorter episode coming at you today. That’s because we’ve taken the decision to take a bit of a hiatus from producing the show and will be coming back stronger in a few weeks time. So it's not a goodbye forever, stay tuned to our socials to find out exactly when we will return.
However, we didn’t want to leave without a quick update on the past seven days and what we will be up to while we’re away.
Matt's decided to become a middle distance guy again, so expect to see him in a speedsuit when we return. Josh has been getting a sore gooch thanks to all of his riding, so expect to see him in the Tour de France when we come back. While, Aaron is back running 80 miles a week with a couple of solid sessions, so expect to see him returning to no running as soon as we come back.
Stay safe, and we will see you all in a few weeks.
Aaron, Matt and Josh x
Episode 54 is here! Matt and his mates are running over kids on the track, Josh is waking up for a sunrise Swim and Aaron is still running in circles around a cricket pitch. We will be back with some guests soon, so for now you'll have to make do with us chatting rubbish for an hour or so. Thanks,
Aaron, Matt and Josh.
Episode 53 is here! We talk through some big runs at Manchester 10k, in particular one from our very own Clowesy who is back running fast.
Aaron is out in Prague, so Josh takes over the recording duties, but still isn't trusted to be the host. Aaron has spent more of his weekend catching up on sleep than running, while Josh is nursing a poorly achilles.
Enjoy,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 52 of Inside Jogging Podcast is here, we almost made it to our first birthday without one of us missing the show, but unfortunately the man who turns 30 on the same day as we turned 1, Joshua Lunn, is absent.
Plenty to chat through in the absence, we’ll discuss the results from the Night of the 10000m and what that means in terms of qualification spots.
Aaron has a moan about the Commonwealth Games allocations, Matt talks to us about canals and we both do our best to decipher what Josh has been up to.
Have a good week,
Thanks,
Aaron & Matt
Evening all, episode 51 is here!
Hot off the press, we've just had a chat with Ben Pochee from Night of the 10000m PB's, where we preview the event and go back to when it all began! There's also the usual nonsense from Matt, Aaron and Josh. Matt goes back to the track to knock out some fast 1km reps, while Josh is progressing with his progression runs. Aaron as always has some feable excuse why he couldn't run at the weekend, and the results are in from our most interactive Instagram poll to date. It turns out more people face away from the shower, so Matt then asks his own shower related questions for you to give further opinion on. Who'd have thought this is a running podcast. Enjoy and hopefully see some of you down in lane 3 on Saturday evening! Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 50 is here and as always it's a massive one. As we are so late recording we've added in the Bank Holiday racing, so we talk through Ellis Cross taking down Mo Farah, and Eilish's new Scottish 10k road record. Plus, we talk through 5k's from Battersea, Cheshire and Cardiff!
Josh is busy progressing his progression runs, in between attending student nights and work conference trips. Matt continues his build to Manchester 10k with 8 x 1k and 2 x 4k and is the king of consistent splits. While Aaron has a minor blip and skips a few runs as he manages a poorly child with tonsilitis, however there's plenty of cricket pitch running for him to still talk through.
We answer your listener questions about double threshold days, Aaron has a moan about fellow exercises not saying hello, and Matt joins him to rant about people stopping their watch as they cross the line instead of celebrating.
Apologies it is so late, it won't happen again.
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 49 is here and as always we’ve got a big show coming at you. There's news from Wrexham marathon and Hamburg, whilst Eilish McColgan has been breaking the British 5k record on the road as part of the Asics Meta Challenge in Malaga.
We check in with Josh to see how his 5k went in Bristol and Matt to see how his pacing went in Wrexham. While Aaron has finally managed to string together seven consecutive days of running ad sits proudly top of the hosts mileage leaderboard.
Have a good week everyone,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 48 is here! We record on Monday evening after a busy weekend for Matt and Aaron, while Josh has just been sitting around playing video games.
Big announcement from Josh on the show, plus Matt continues his progress towards a sub 30 10km in May, and Aaron finally gets back running - thanks to a little motivation from the jokers over at IRP.
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 47 is here, and as always another big week on its way to you!
Matt is still battling with the achilles but knocks out a swift 10k tempo, Josh has an eventful session at parkrun on Saturday, while Aaron picks up yet another illness.
We're also joined late in the day by Lloyd Kempson for a quick chat previewing the Comeback 5000 on Friday. Lloyd talks to us about why he is involved with the event and what they are trying to achieve with it, as well as talking about his other projects including his coaching company Team Project Run and his work with Nike.
Have an ok week,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Evening all, another big one coming at you. We've gone deep into Manchester marathon today, and try our best to give you a full rundown of what went on in the British European marathon trials and the English commonwealth games marathon trials.
We're joined for a quick chat by Matt Crehan who won last year's race and actually led the race for the first 8 miles or so. He explains why he races that way and why he won't stop doing it any time soon.
Matt and Josh are back doing some sessions and tempo's, while Aaron is encompassed by a world of covid and struggles to get anything meaningful done this week.
Thanks for listening. Have a decent week.
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Here's episode 45 for you all to enjoy, where Aaron and Matt once again try to establish what makes Josh tick. It's not quite an intervention yet, but it may be coming soon. Josh and Matt are back on some sessions, while Aaron is back in the Covid recovery phase. One week all three of us might string together a decent week all at once.
We've got some taper chat and a preview of the upcoming Commonwealth Games trials for the marathon in Manchester.
Thanks for your support,
Aaron, Matt & Josh
Another big show coming at you as we discuss the World Indoor Champs from Serbia with news of a fantastic bronze medal in the 3000m from Marc Scott.
We've also got an interview with Jess Piasecki who's already had a stellar year, with big PB’s in the half marathon where she ran 67:20 to go 4th all time on the rankings list, and then recently running a phenomenal 2:22:25 marathon PB in Seville.
Jess talks all things Seville, the Olympic Games experience and how her injuries in the past now shape the way she trains.
Matt is still bronzing himself in Portugal and is busy returning to fitness in sensible way. Same can't be said for Josh who is intent on getting back into some fast running as soon as possible. While Aaron has Covid again 🤦🏽♂️
We've also tagged on to the end of the show our latest Patreon training talk series with Will Bryan and Kieran Walker who are building into Manchester Marathon in less than two weeks time, so go give that a listen too!
Thanks for continuing to support us, we've upped our game this week, and can confirm there is no roaming around the streets of London or watching Tiktok whilst recording on this weeks show.
Enjoy the week, Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 43 is here, and managed to get Clowesy off the sun lounger to record from Portugal. Aplogies, seems as if Aaron's microphone was a bit off, will sort that out for next week!
We've got an interview with 28:38 man Lucian Allison. Lucian is a man on the rise, who was 4th overall at the rapid Trafford 10k last weekend and who has PB’s of 13:57 for 5000 and 64:29 for the half to his name.
His rise has been a rapid one, it was only six years ago that he started any real form of running and was clocking 37 mins for 10k, so enjoy the chat with Lincolnshire’s fineset dresser and coffee connoisseur.
All the boys are back running this week and despite Josh not having done more than 5 x 5 mins walk/jog, he insists he would beat Aaron at a 10k right now...
Matt has got some miles under his belt and looks forward to progressing things a notch in the next week. While, Josh has been smashing the hours in the gym, suited head to toe in a Nike tracksuit.
Aaron enjoyed a win on the local running scene and plots out his aims for the next couple of months, now Manchester is fully off the cards.
Aaron, Matt & Josh
Kipchoge and Kosgei show their class in Tokyo, while there’s some fast times domestically over 10km in Manchester and some equally fast times over the half in Cambridge.
Josh is yet again on the move and joins us from a train station in London, he talks us through his week of cross training, and updates us on his injury prognosis.
Matt has been counting birds in his garden in between building his latest cross trainer. He is back running again but may have pushed things a little too much.
Aaron is the only one running and has now averaged 85 mpw for the last four weeks. He does both his sessions this week on the treadmill and runs 16 miles home from work, which he describes as one of his top three worst runs ever.
Thanks for the support,
Aaron, Matt and Josh.
Episode 41 is here and there's plenty to discuss, with another national record being broken, a world record being broken in the women’s 10k, racing indoors at the UK trials, and action at the various national cross country champs across the UK.
We talk sleeping positions this week, why you shouldn't wear pants with your flappies or half tights, and many other pearls of wisdom.
While Matt and Josh are still on the come back trail, Aaron is back ending his week after a slow Monday to Wednesday. He does two big sessions in the space of 48 hours, but somehow gets away with an interrogation from the boys.
Thanks for your support, and sorry to be recording a day late. Blame Aaron's sister-in-law for having a baby shower.
Have an average week
Aaron, Matt & Josh
Episode 40 is here! Plenty to recap, and like many of our recent shows there’s another record to talk about, as we bring news of a British half marathon record from the UAE.
We go deep into some Seville marathon recap, and we are joined live by 2:11:28 man Josh Griffiths fresh from his World championship qualifier!
Josh and Matt have spent the week on the eliptical, while Aaron has been mostly running indoors, so we might as well rebrand as Indoors Jogging Podcast.
Thanks for the support,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 39 is here and there are records galore in the US. We cover all the latest running news from home and abroad and have the usual segments to chat through.
Josh has an injury scare and will be spending his Valentine's day in a Cardiff gym on the eliptical. His gym attire is questionable, but he pulls some wise words for Aaron out of the bag to help pinpoint where Aaron's injury might have taken place.
So, yes that means Aaron hobbled his way around Stamford 30k at the end of week where I he had been feeling back at his best. All was well until 12km when his glute locked up and forced him to spend the next 18km hating life. He's also not eating meat, but that's mainly because his wife has stopped cooking it.
Clowesy has been doing hour eliptical sessions while catching up on some Netflix series. He doesn't have any spoilers for you this week, but he has ordered a brand new eliptical after his last one couldn't deal with the pounding he was giving it.
Thanks for your support,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Episode 38 of Inside Jogging Podcast is here, thanks for tuning in for another week, and choosing to spend the next hour or so listening to us, instead of one of the other average running podcasts out there.
Quieter week on the running news front, but there’s still some results from around the UK and further afield that we will cover, in addition to all the usual segments.
Josh tells Matt to cheer up as he talks us through his eliptical training. Matt questions Aaron on his curry choice. While Aaron and Matt have concerns with Josh's multi-colour footwear and wearing his watch the wrong way around.
Josh does a YouTube vide with the Welsh Runner - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKNr-i2rbs0
It might be shorter, but hopefully you enjoy! Enjoy your week,
Aaron, Matt, Josh & Ruth
Episode 37 is here, big week coming at you as we talk plenty of running news with action in regional XC’s across England, a half marathon in Seville and some indoor action from New York. We’ve got all the usual segments, Josh has returned from the USA and Clowesy is in a boot!
Once again we begin recording without Josh, who arrives half an hour in and semi-naked. Matt has been eating his weight in Lindor and Aaron has been doing an average job at caring for his poorly child.
Some big mileage weeks from Aaron and Josh, and while Josh has been meeting the who's who of American running, Aaron has been ticking off some virtual mileage in his garage.
Enjoy the interview with 2:14 marathon man, Andy Davies, who races Seville in just three weeks time and is the most down to earth runner there is!
Thanks for your support,
Aaron, Matt, Josh & Ruth.
Episode 36 is here! We talk to The Welsh Runner about his recent trip to Kenya and his life as a producer of running content. There are all the usual weekly recaps, we answer four listener questions about marathon training (Josh to our surprise contributes with another solid answer), and Clowesy delivers Weston's wise words about running pain thresholds if you've got red hair. Thanks to COROS wearables for supporting the show again this week, they provide technology to the likes of Eluid Kipchoge, to find out more information head over to uk.coros.com.
Josh has had an interrupted week thanks to Covid, and only manages to get in some easy running once he is feeling a bit better. He talks us through his ability to recover from a half marathon and drops an exclusive about his living arrangements for the rest of the year.
Matt has some bad news delivered, in the form of four small tears to various parts of his right lower leg. He discusses his week of eliptical training and ponders whether he can make a splint of some sort to allow him to drive to work - pretty sure the discussion offers some options that are legal and safe...
Aaron has recorded the most volume in a long while and tops the mileage this week amongst the hosts. He's spent most of it indoors on his Noble Pro and has been jet setting across the world for his easy runs, much to Clowesy's delight on Strava. He also discusses his first marathon type long run in a long while, which goes far better than he ever expected.
Thanks for listening, have an alright week everyone.
Aaron, Matt, Josh and Ruth
We’ve got another big show coming at you (156 minutes!), as we tried, and failed, to go live to Houston and get the lowdown on Josh’s rapid half. However, we still bring you all our other usual segments and we have an excellent interview with 2:11 man and winner of Berlin marathon in 1985 Jimmy Ashworth. Thanks to COROS for supporting the show again this week!
Josh is AWOL after his half in Houston and busy swanning around mixing it with new American record holders. So, you have to make do with Aaron and Matt for the majority of this week, as they spend a good hour talking about how little running they've been doing.
Matt has a poorly achilles, while Aaron is still moaning about some mystery fatigue that has plagued him for the past 14 months, coincidently the same time as which Eliza (another guest on this week’s show) came to town.
Edit: Aaron located Josh at 6:30am on Monday morning (Flag time), and has seamlessly dropped him into the episode.
Stay tuned for the end of the show where Ruth and Aaron interview Jimmy Ashworth, as he talks us through 180 mile weeks, eating chip butties and working in a scrapyard between his double days!
Have a good week.
Aaron, Matt, Ruth and Josh (when he turns up)
Big show for you this week as we ponder where we might be in ten years time.
Josh talks us through another big week, with Matt not to happy with how he treated his Wednesday recovery run.
Matt himself has been running 20 miles at 5:15 pace despite the stench of goat shit in the air. He blunders through another Weston's wise words and tells us about his new cross trainer purchase.
Aaron is once again struggling, might as well copy and paste this from the previous 33 episodes. He's bought himself a treadmill which is due to arrive next week, so hopes he turns the corner soon.
Thanks for all your support.
Aaron, Matt and Josh.
For the month of January we have partnered up with COROS Wearables who aim to bring cutting edge technologies to athletes, explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts. COROS have a long standing reputation providing GPS sports watches to some of the best athletes in sport, including Molly Seidel, Tommy Caldwell, and Eliud Kipchoge.

It's 2022, Happy New Year. Shorter episode coming at you, as everyone we've tried to interview over the last couple of weeks have been busy with this Christmas thing.
It might be short, but it's a good one, as we go through our weeks, which sees Josh taking a bit more flack than the other two as per usual. We also answer some listener questions about goals for the year ahead, we round up the latest news, thank you our patreons, and generally do our thing to create this 80 mins of pure radio gold. Matt talks us through a nice little weekend 20 miler around his latest Wrexham industrial estate loop, despite having a dodgy achilles. Josh is up at them again, and in his 115 mile week he enjoyed a day of running 26 miles in 300m circles indoors, as well as a tasty 8 x 1mi session at slightyl lower altitude. Aaron again finds excuses to not be fully back at the races, and bemoans his lack of energy. Things could be changing though thanks to a breakthrough in Eliza's sleeping habits - the alcohol consumption had to work one day.
Hope you've all enjoyed yourselves over the festive season, and we hope to announce a new patreon series very soon!
Thanks for the support (I promise I'll buy Josh some wifi for next week)
Aaron, Matt and Josh
We ask the important questions this week. Yorkshire puddings with your Christmas dinner? Top tier quality street sweets? How many lindor balls did Matt get through?
Josh is late to the show again as he's busy finding new friends in Flag. Even if he thinks he is too big time for the other boys, they soon bring him back down to earth with a quick counselling session.
With 8 weeks to go until Seville (unless we're locked down again by then), Matt thinks it's probably time to start marathon training. He had his booster jab early in the week that knocked him out for 24 hours, but finished the week with solid session after a few solid sessions around the Christmas dinner table.
Aaron is now on cold variant #17653, but despite joking about it being Covid on the pod, he did test negative. He manages to get a couple of runs in early in the week, but not enough mileage which results in him having the lowest yearly mileage amongst the three.
Thanks for supporting the show, Happy Christmas and here's to an even better 2022!
Aaron, Matt and Josh
In a week that saw Boris ask everyone in the UK to get their Covid vaccine boosters before the New Year, Josh took that as a message to fly halfway across the world to boost his red blood cells with a trip to altitude.
Big week coming at you, with all the usual segments plus an interview with the first British man home in Sapporo, and all round legend of British endurance running, Chris Thompson.
Chris chats through the emotional trial race at Kew Gardens, racing at the Olympic Games and even goes into his training diary to recall a magic week during his build up. What a guy.
Enjoy, and thanks for the support.
Aaron, Josh and Matt.
Big week coming at you as all three of us have been racing in some shape or form this weekend gone. In a week that saw Lewis Hamilton lose his F1 title on the final lap to Max Verstappen, Matt Clowes also saw victory slip away in the final few hundred metres of his 10k in Telford, thanks to his old wheels having too much degradation in them compared to his young rivals.
We’ve got the European XC champs to talk through, Josh and Matt have been racing in Telford, Aaron's ran a questionable half in Milton Keynes, and we’ve got all the usual segments, plus a new one which Clowesy unveils live on show.
Apologies that we recorded a day late, Josh is preparing for his flight across the pond and wasn’t back until late Sunday night, by which time Matt was already in bed and Aaron was on childcare duties.
If anyone did our session from social last week then please do let us know!
Have an average one,
Aaron, Matt & Josh
In a week where a mystery man arrived at A&E in Gloucester with a world war two shell stuck up his bottom, Josh also dropped a few bombs of his own, in the form of Jaeger during his Christmas party in Cardiff.
Josh had a solid week of training, but ruined his session on Saturday with a few too many Rose flavoured Tequila shots on Friday evening. He's late to the pod again, thanks to being stuck on another train back from Cardiff, all because he's sold his car to fund his new pro lifestyle.
Matt has been feeling the fatigue after his 28:58 10k and has a few things to say about the great British weather. He has a live whatsapp from Dan Weston who lets us all know why the sun appears to look the same size as the Sun when looking at them both from Earth.
Aaron doesn't start his training week until the Tuesday evening after a few busy days in the office, but recaps another couple of grass sessions ahead of his half in MK next week. He also details a trip to a brothel after his Frankfurt marathon PB in 2018.
We've tagged on the most recent episode of training talk with Jake Smith, which gets released every Tuesday on Patreon, so enjoy!
Thanks for the support.
Aaron, Matt & Josh
Welcome to Episode 28 of Inside Jogging Podcast, it's a big one!
Plenty to crack through, we discuss plenty of miles in our training weeks, we thank our patreons, go to some listener questions and cover the latest news including results at the European XC trials in Liverpool, and some moaning about the lack of coverage.
Matt has been casually dropping a 28 minute 10k on the roads in Wilmslow. He talks through his interest in bitcoin and stumbles over some tricky names. Josh is boarding a train back to Peterborough but whilst sheltering from the public in the toilet, he admits to watching Ariana Grande videos in his spare time. Aaron is back nearly hitting 100 miles for the week, but like Matt has been struggling with his general athleticism. He's not sure if his thick tash and speedos was the correct choice for swimming with Eliza and the other mums on Thursday.
We’ve also got an interview with 2:29 marathoner and 15th place finisher at London Marathon Rose Harvey!
Have a good week,
Aaron, Matt and Josh xoxo
In a week that’s seen parts of Europe heading back into lockdown, Matt has also had Josh locked down on an enforced rest week.
Matt's been feeling the dreaded winter fatigue and is struggling a bit for motivation, but still manages to knock out a swift little session on the weekend. Aaron's been running more this week than he has for a long time, although his Sunday is hampered somewhat by childcare issues. While Josh is adamant that he feels worse off an 80 mile week than he does a 120 mile week, be sure to stay tuned for scientific insights into his training...
We’ll do the usual and talk through our weeks and see whether Josh has obeyed the draconian measures. We’ll also thank some patrons, answer some listener questions, discuss what’s been happening in the world of running in the past 7 days, and then we’ve got an interview with the 3rd fastest British female marathon runner of all time, Charlotte Purdue.
Have an average week,
Aaron, Matt and Josh xoxo
Big week to crack through on our 6 month birthday, as we go through our weeks, look at the Strava leaderboard, there’s a big announcement on how you can support the show, we answer some listener questions, go into the latest running news and after all of that have a brilliant interview with the host of Inside Running Podcast, Brady Threlfall.
In a week that’s seen our leaders talk about reducing carbon emissions, Josh has upped his carbon footprint with a few fast laps in his Next %s around Battersea. He's been smashing a couple of sessions out the park, stay tuned to see if Clowesy is pleased with this, or whether he's concerned that he's pushing too soon.
Matt’s been knocking out some super quick reps around the Wrexham industrial estate loops, and also been getting lost in London. He gets so lost this week that he has to get a cable car over the Thames to get him back to his original destination.
Aaron's had a ticking off by a man who paints the lines at the cricket pitch, but his training is back on the up. Eliza still isn't sleeping through the night, but thanks to some advice from Matt, he might start mixing the milk bottle with a bit of Bailey's to keep her going through the night.
Have a great week legends,
Aaron, Matt and Josh
Another quicker show this week, as Josh has been racing in Reading, Aaron is a busy man trying to look after his daughter and Matt is selling something somewhere.
We do our usual weekly recaps, talk through New York and Barcelona marathons and recap some domestic results.
Quiet one for once this week, as not much running news to go off. We discuss our training weeks, answer some listener questions, and Aaron gets regularly interrupted by trick or treaters.
Another big week coming at you, as there’s been a marathon in Rotterdam, a big 10k in Leeds and a world record over the half in Valencia. We answer some listener questions, discuss our training weeks and then we’ve got an excellent interview with Becky Briggs, who posted the second fastest u23 UK marathon of all time at London a couple of weeks ago.
Matt just about makes the podcast this week as he's a busy guy. His image is put to good use on the front of the Newport 10k t-shirts and he's been busy battling the drizzle of Wales. He's not entirely sure what a stiff breeze is, maybe he should come to the fens to experience it.
Josh is up and at it, now he's put his computer controller away he's even more unbearable than before. He talks us through tempo runs in the dark and why everyone should run hard on easy runs. His calves are looking in good shape, and he talks Clowesy through how to do isometric holds.
Aaron is back and finally hit a 100km week, he's even been hitting the gym with Josh. If ever you want to see a pathetic sight then it's well worth watching some content of Aaron and Josh lifting. He's gearing up for a big weekend ahead of Eliza's 1st birthday, when he won't be giving her a bottle of JD despite Clowesy's recommendation.
Have a middle of the road week, listeners xoxo
Big week coming at you as we talk to the new King of London and 2:12 man, Phil Sesemann. We chat about his build up, what it was like on race day, plus get the scoop on his big new sponsorship deal with dog food brand Skinners.
Matt has been getting stuck into some sewing this week, trying to repair a coat or something along those lines. He's already back knocking out sub 5 minute pace tempos, that's despite consuming a Lindor ball or two a day.
Josh is back in Peterborough and completed his first week of running post marathon. He's on a mission to get hench this winter, so has been frequenting a friends local gym, but worrying has been doing his exercises in just a pair of lycra shorts and a pair of Invicibles.
Aaron is also on the road to recovery and completed a week of over 50 miles at an average of sub 7s! He's delighted to have Josh back in town, but is worried that Josh is in fact the mystery fly tipper of Wrexham and brought his dirty habit across the country with him.
There's the usual listener questions and news roundups, where the boys divert onto many tangents, such as how long to moths coccoon for?
Have a terrible week, people. IJP 😉 (Matt's emoji of choice)
Back again, with a shorter show for once as all three of us are still in recovery mode for one reason or another. I think this is the lowest ever combined mileage training week, so instead we recap the marathon in Manchester, Chicago and Boston and answer some listener questions.
Josh Lunn must have the sorest thumbs in Britain from all the DM’ing he’s been doing since the great social media blackout, and after his many London marathon posts. He once again got locked out of his flat this week and now thinks he's a master in breaking and entering. He also discusses his diet this week and gets into trouble with Matt for his unscheduled gym work.
Matt Clowes is adjusting back to the running life after 9 days off running, he ponders why there's so much toilet roll in lay-by's and has been busy blagging himself a new job. He also delights Aaron by admitting he does love cats after all, with a particular shining to little Suzie.
Aaron Scott has been on a stag do in Newcastle and once again failed to complete a week of running. He performed poorly in the beer mile, but thinks maybe the alcohol related events might have helped kickstart is Seville marathon training block.
Right, that's what we've got, we will be doing some guest interviews this week, so stay tuned for some more interesting content soon.
Love you lots, IJP.
Big week coming at you as we get a full race debrief from Josh Lunn after his little jog around the streets of London.
His 14th place finish at London means he has the highest place finish at a marathon major amongst the other hosts, so he is now officially king of the pod... well for a few months anyway.
Just before we went to record, the world has imploded, with WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram all going down. So we won't be able to promote this show much yet, other than pushing it out on iTunes, Spotify, and all other podcast platforms.
For now then, that'll do. I'll post more when the social networks return, and Josh can get back DM'ing.
Episode 19 is here, day later than usual as we let Matt come off his IV drip and recover a little before interrogating him.
As you might have seen, things didn’t go quite to plan for Matthew Clowes in Berlin, who like many others struggled in the humidity. Matt discusses his race in detail and despite being disappointed with the outcome is still thankfully in one piece. Look, he’s still our hero and that final 2.2k of his shows the depths he can go to when the going gets tough.
Josh Lunn manages to irritate Matt more than that 35-40k of his marathon did, as Josh tells us how he has been up late playing his silly games and wants to start doing yoga during his final week of the taper.
Aaron Scott is on the mend, and nearly hits 50 miles for the week. He’s seen the doc this week, who has given the green light to continue training at a low intensity, so is ready to start planning for Seville marathon in February.
Thanks for downloading people, and remember when the going gets tough, drink some Maurten.
Episode 18 is live, and we talk through all the important topics of the week, such as how you pronounce brands such as Bose and Ritter Sport (other electronic and confectionary brands are available). We also go deep into our milk preferences, so if you want to learn some valuable insights into Josh’s ‘intolerances’ then you won’t want to miss this show.
Matt’s fully into his taper now and wonders why the people of Wrexham are so keen on Fosters. We learn about his chocolate intake per week (basically a lot of Lindor balls), and we link his taper into listener questions this week, so go through all your race week taper queries.
Josh has been racing again in Swansea, he talks us through his hair dye colour of choice, his thoughts on full tracksuit runs and learn the revelation that he has never had a kebab before. Josh spends the show doing a range of weird stretches, much to the distraction of the others, so apologies for the bad radio it produces.
Aaron’s had a poorly daughter this week, so on Matt’s advice is considering reducing her alcohol intake to singles moving forwards. He’s been up to watch the Northern Road Relays in Redcar, done a little bit of running and is keen to kick start his running career again now he’s feeling a bit more normal.
Enjoy the show, people, and have a bang average week.
Episode 17 is here and it's a big one as we finally catch up with John Beattie and talk all things Great North Run.
Josh has been practicing his marathon effort in Newcastle, but got very distracted by the big boys lining up. He spent more time fangirling Stewy McSweyn than he did playing his silly games on the computer this weekend, which says it all.
Matt finished off his last big week of training with two quality sessions, but more importantly he fills us in on his review of a flat white in a can, in addition to updating us on his fruit harvest this week. Matt puts out an appeal for people to grow up and stop using acronymns in text and in life... FML he is hardwork.
Aaron has had a bit more discussion with the GP's on his health issues, but helps read out Josh's week of training, due to Josh being in the car whilst recording. He is not best pleased with Josh still wearing spikes on the track for his marathon sessions, but the question is, will Josh ever take note?
Thank you for all your 5 star reviews last week, feel free to comment a review too if you get two minutes spare and can think of anything useful. All of this will help us reach even more people, which should help us be able to bring you more great content ideas we have such as the tales of the farmers dog, or soiled pants weekly.
On that note, we’d love it if you tag fellow runners when we post out this show on social, if you don’t that’s of course your choice, but what I will say is that i’ll think much less of you as a person. We haven’t quite come up with the right idea for thanking our listeners just yet, as Clowesy is too busy to provide home delivery of his fruit produce, so drop us a message if you have any ideas, maybe some merch or a spot in Josh’s computer game team.
The Juggernaut keeps rolling, as Matthew Clowes completes the "Grand Slam" of Wrexham with a win at the Village Bakery Half Marathon (Run Cheshire). Excellent talk from Matt this week, as he details why Costa Coffee makes such a bad flat white, and pushes for a sponsorship deal from Lindt in discussing his love for Lindors.
Josh Lunn has been trying to put his bad experience in Antrim behind him as he pushes out another 100 mile plus week in his build up to London Marathon. He discusses his ability to relieve himself effectively during sessions, and gets dropped by Dan Osborn-Nash on his weekend 24 miler. He might be off to Barcelona for a romantic weekend with his Bowerman Track Club boys, he's so big time...
While Aaron Scott is still struggling, maybe it's time to just put him down.
We answer a whole host of listener questions, giving poor insight into topics such as who is the @stravawanker, Dan your secret is safe with us, mate.
Have an average week, people. Keep that heart rate low, and give us a 5 star review on iTunes.
This week we talk through Josh’s trip over to Northern Ireland for Antrim half, Aaron’s update on his lack of running, and Matt as he goes big in his buildup for Berlin.
Apologies for recording this show a couple of days late, at the end of the day we’re all blue collar boys on this pod, well Matt maybe is, and had some very busy bank holiday weekend.
Have a good rest of the week, people.
We're back again and we’ve got an action packed show this week, as Clowesy speeds around the streets of London and cements his status as the king of the podcast.
Josh has been smashing the miles and he’s hit 200km in his last 7 days, which sounds a bit better than 124 miles in the last 7 days.
We dial into Jake Smith fresh off his race victory at the Big Half and ask whether he needs a trip to Specsavers, as he resorted to asking strangers how far he had to go, instead of using any one of the massive markers by the side of the road.
We’ve got a listener question to tackle, round up some other results from the week, and then call our guest for the week, 28:32 10k man and 2010 commonwealth games representative, John Beattie.
Shorter week again, as Aaron has been very poorly and wasn't able to do the extensive prep that we always do. Interviews will commence again from next week, but for this week you'll have to do with just us.
Josh and Matt have had a romantic weekend away at the England Athletics marathon camp, and recap their training weeks.
There's been the announcement of elite fields at London, which feature our very own Josh Lunn, and we run throught the list of who Josh will be spending 2 hours studying the backside of.
Apologies for the delay in uploading, and please send your messages of love and encouragement to Aaron on social media. Man flu is a very real issue and should be discussed more openly.
Thanks for listening, share it please, and have a terrible week.
The Olympics has come and gone, and it’s been a hectic week trying to catch the action, whilst trying to get some sleep and still putting in the miles. We do the usual and talk through our weeks, catch up on the best of the Olympic action, take some listener questions and generally talk rubbish.
Josh has been busy moving house, although it's debateable he actually did anything, and assures us tiredness and a lack of energy are two separate things. Big session of 16 x 1 mile in the books this week for Josh with his new best friend "the Nasher".
Matt has been midweek long running, knocking out 20+ miles before most of us have even woken up. He's got a niggling achilles still, but at least he knows where his achilles is... unlike some people. He also discusses the farmers dog on the 2 mile Redwick loop, be sure to listen in to find out what he named it.
Aaron has finally managed a half decent week of training, thanks to two long runs on coaching duties. He tried out a new long run session on Saturday and is keen to get Matt's thoughts on it. Plus, he's still busy trying to work out which marathon he should run this Autumn.
Give it a listen, give us a review, send us your feedback, and share the pod!
Have a beautiful week, people.
Episode 11 is here, as the Olympics gets under way, so does the boys marathon prep. Download all good podcast providers, and some terrible ones too - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast Matt has been dropping some outrageous marathon sessions this week, completing a 12 mile session in under an hour. He wants to start a campaign to clear up the UK footpaths, and gives us his thoughts on finding soiled pants out in the middle of nowhere on his runs. Josh thinks he's in 2:13 shape again and is bullish about his philosphies on training, despite pressure from Aaron to change his ways. He's nine weeks out from London and has hit his first 100 mile week of the training block. Aaron has had another week of not doing much, but promises to get back into the swing of things next week. He's been busy betting on the Olympics, in the hope he wins big and can put Eliza through life. He lets Matt know why cereal was invented, and is want an IRP v IJP marathon smackdown.
Thanks for downloading people, keep sharing the pod, and as always have an average week!
Episode 10 is here, an Olympic special featuring Ross Murray, download on all platforms, link is here - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast
Big episode coming your way as we chat to Ross Murray about his 2012 Olympic experience and get some insight into what it will be like for the athletes in Tokyo. Athletics kicks off on Friday, so make sure you get those distance events in your diary.
Another week, another win for Matthew Clowes as he takes the W at Helena Tipping 10k in Wrexham. He talks us through his hate for footpaths, and ponders why there are naked people in fields at 6:30 in the morning...
Josh Lunn has been nursing his achilles/calf/foot/leg/body injury, but seems to be on the mend. He's been at a wedding this week and shocks the boys with his evening wear attire.
While Aaron has decided against London and is busy trying to source an alternative marathon this Autumn. Valencia seemed the best bet, but that's proving difficult, so if anyone fancies helping him find a marathon then send us a DM!
Parkrun is back, we answer some listener questions and round up the results. Thanks for downloading people, keep sharing the pod, and as always have an average week!
Episode 9 is here, download on all platforms, link is here - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast
Shorter show heading your way this week, as the interview I have lined up is still pending. Quieter week in terms of results, but there's action on the roads to catch up with and we discuss the Soar MK 5k PB special. It turns out there was an England champs on the track too this weekend, not that any of us (or a lot of athletes) knew about it! The boys discuss all things running and meteorology, which according to Josh and Clowesy is the study of Meteors...
Josh Lunn is not best pleased about reporting for co-hosting duties a few hours earlier than scheduled, and being pulled out of one of his Gameboy games. His achilles seems to be on the mend, but his HR got very elevated on Sunday, maybe because it's well hot... might be too hot... might be.
Matthew Clowes is back taking W's on the local road racing scene, with a hilly victory at the Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno (no-one on the pod is pronouncing it correctly, so apologies real Welsh people). His build up to Berlin is getting serious, but his build up to raspberry season might be reaching a peak too.
Aaron Scott has had it with social media, and can't get his head around the toxicity on some of these platforms these days. He's had a big weekend of training to make up for some of the rubbish days during the week and is busy doing lateral flow tests, to check he's not contracted COVID during any sessions this week. Just to note, Inside Jogging Podcast is part of a government pilot scheme, where by the hosts don't need to self isolate, and can test themselves every day instead.
Don't be shy, send us in your comments, feedback and reviews and we might give you a shout out on a future show. In the mean time, have an average week and we will be back next Monday. The next one will definitely/maybe include an interview, so stay tune for next week.
Episode 8 is here, download on all platforms, link is here - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast With my day ruined yesterday by penalties on Sunday, we recorded a day later than usual. Big week in British running as Bird & Muir set records in Monaco, the U23’s were in action at the Euro Championships in Tallinn and 10000m English champs are crowned at FastFriday (which Josh Lunn was absent from). Huge week in English football too, but I’m not prepared to talk about yet.
Josh Lunn professionally announced his injury for the fans on Instagram, and was a DNS for Fast Friday 10,000m (another DNS for the Inside Jogging Podcast team...). He's been busy not running, but we don't think he's entirely sure that he knows what his achilles is. He's also not the happiest this week, so its a cheery show for you all!
Matthew Clowes kicked off his week with a 4:45am run, and has been out on his travels again. Only one brief hotel review this week, but has a nice downhill tempo and a beautifully consistent long run session to talk about. He's happier than the other two, and talks us through a work morning that involves decapitated heads.
Aaron Scott is depressed, but tries to put on a brave face, after all it's only another 55 years to wait until the next one. He has had an up and down week, but finished it off with a half decent tempo on Friday and a solid long run with the boys on Sunday. He's not happy about the UK footpath scene, and is considering writing into the local councils with his complaints.
Don't be shy, send us in your comments, feedback and reviews and we might give you a shout out on a future show. In the mean time, have an average week and we will be back on track with a show next Monday. The next one will include a big interview, as we finally get our lives back on track and organise this thing!
Episode 7 is here, download on all platforms, link is here - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast
A quieter week in terms of results this week, but the Olympic Team is out and British Athletics couldn't resist being controversial, leaving out Mark Pearce depsite making the cut based on the rankings.
Matthew Clowes is back being the big dog (even if he misses the first 5 mins of the show), with three quality sessions banked last week. No tractors were in his way on his Friday tempo, and he knocked out 8 miles under 5 min pace. No hotel reviews neither, and he's not entirely sure whether Wrexham is in the West...
Josh Lunn has been doing track sessions while England play Germany, much to Aaron's annoyance. His week is cut short by an achilles niggle, maybe he shouldn't be pushing the pace targets Clowesy has been giving him. He's also Pfizered out, and wants some sympathy, which none of us are willing to give him.
Aaron Scott is on the road to recovery, but lost a lot of sleep time this weekend looking for his cat, and celebrating England's victory in the pub. He has been causing a stir on Strava with some generous GPS, but promises from next week the cricket pitch sessions will be no more.
Keep sending us your comments (positive only), and pass the pod far and wide. We hope you have an average week, it's coming home!
Episode 6 is here, download on all platforms, link is here - https://linktr.ee/insidejoggingpodcast
Another big show coming your way this week, we’ve got an interview with Sapporo-bound Kevin Seaward, alongside his coach Andy Hobdell, where we talk in depth about the marathon build up and key sessions along the way. It's a cracking interview so you can always skip our terrible chat and go straight to this instead!
I don’t blame it if you missed it, considering how terrible our governing body is at marketing the sport, but the British Olympic trials have been on this weekend and we round up the winners and losers on what has been a huge weekend for British athletes.
Matthew Clowes has been given the all clear by the doc, and is back on track for Berlin. He's spent the week at home for once, and has been dodging tractors on tempo runs.
Josh Lunn manages to get to the show on time for once, but his new hair is questionable to say the least. We get some valuable insight into his reasoning behind the look, as well as hearing why he's spent the day at work doing litter picking around Cardiff.
Aaron Scott is now taking any pills he can get his hands on to resolve his low iron issues. He talks about his big fat DNF in Leeds, and his plans to take it easy for a few weeks.
What you waiting for, listen in. We hope you have an average week, guys.
Big show this week as we look ahead to the British Trials in Manchester, with the expert help of world record course organiser, Chris Barnes.
We discuss the latest domestic running news as Jamie Webb and Elliot Giles run 800m PB’s in Poland. We also go Stateside to discuss the American trials in the week which saw Shelby Houlihan receive a four year doping ban for eating a burrito.
Matthew Clowes comes up with a new feature this week (Tripadvisor would argue it's been thought of though), as he rates his hotel stays this week. He looks like he is on the mend, so that's good news as he declares he's building for Berlin marathon.
Josh Lunn is late to the pod once again, and spends the first half an hour trying to connect to the call. He's hyped up after a good week of training, but has he been going too hard too soon?
Aaron Scott is still suffering from hayfever as he builds up to Leeds 10'000m next Thursday. He's also celebrating Father's Day for the first time, not that any of the other two care.
Adam Bull tops our Strava leaderboard this week with 106 miles out there in your boys neighbourhood - 100+ in group now.
Listener Questions 10 mins
Go to session for the week of a race and when would you do it?
If you race 10k on Sunday and planned a 5k the following Friday would you easy run to the 5k, or do some sort of session in between?
I’m someone who loses fitness mega quick and takes ages to get it back, so intrigued how people get through racing blocks and get the balance right.
DAVE ARCHER
At the start of a marathon block, how caught up should you be on your ability to run MP. Say for example should running 10k at MP at marathon pace be achievable 10 weeks out? At what point in theblock do you look at the paces you’re achieving in sessions and hone in on a realistic target race pace.

My thoughts, surely you’d be more careful. If she ate Offal then surely you’d know after one bite. Whether guilty or not, why have so many athletes come out in full defence of her, how could you possibly 100% guarantee your friend isn’t doping?

Chris Barnes Interview
Another huge week in British distance running, Oliver Dustin is looking v.nicey (copyright Lucian Allison) in Nice, Dever wins the NCAA title, and Butchart sets a BMC record.
Matthew Clowes been here there and everywhere (Thinks he's Will Smith from Seven Pounds), but hopefully has a plan to recovery after seeing the doc.
Josh Lunn is back at peak levels of excitement following a couple of half decent sessions. If anyone wants to take over our WhatsApp chat for us then feel free, as myself and Matt don't have the time to respond to his incessant messaging.
While Aaron Scott bagged his podcast head-to-head win if he simply toes the line in Leeds. He's been suffering with hayfever, and generally feeling pretty tired thanks to Dad life.
No interview this week, but we will try to go in depth into a couple of listener questions, and we will be back with a big interview next week. Have a distinctly average week people, and enjoy the pod.
NCAAs
The week started in an exciting way when Patrick Dever won the NCAA 10,000m final in Eugene with a stunning performance. Six athletes were still in the running with 200m to go but Patrick Dever absolutely smashed the last 50 meters to finish in a winning time of 27:41.87. That puts him 15th all time in Britain and is a huge 46 seconds faster than his existing PB.
Charles Hicks placed seventh and another big PB of 27:47.63 breaking Dave Bedfords British teen-best of 28:24.4 which was set in 1969. Poppy Tank made sure it wasn’t just the gents setting new bests, as she ran 32:50.57 for ninth in her 10000m final.
Meeting International de Nice
Revee Walcott-Nolan ran a PB of 4:06.28 to place second in the 1500m and in the mens 1500m George Mills was seventh in 3:37.00. Earlier in the week Mills had been at the WA Continental Tour Bronze meet in Prague and ran a 3:36.42 for fourth place.
Eilish McColgan was racing again, running herself a 5,000m second place finish in a time of 14:55.79. She now has the Olympic qualifying time for 1500, 5000 and 10,000!
In the men’s 5000m it was great to see Jonny Davies clocking a fine 13:21.56, a performance hat has gone under the radar a bit this week but which was a near 10 second PB for the former European u/23 XC Champion.
Mark Pearce was in action in the chase running a big PB of 8:25.43, another athlete coached by Luke Gunn delivering top results.
In shorter news but absolutely the jaw-dropping moment of the week was Oliver Dustin’s (Border AC) performance of 1:43.82 over 800m which secured him the title of European U20 champion and 6th place on the UK all time list.
Issey Boffey was in action in the women’s 800m running 2:05.53.
Meeting Pro Athlé Tour de Marseille
Charlie De-vall Grice cut down his distance to 800 where he clocked 1:45.63.
At the same meet, Elliot Giles went the other way and ran the 1500 where he was 2nd in 3:33.80, Piers Copeland ran 3:34.62 which is his first OT, Jake Heyward continued his fine form with 3:34.63 also with George Mills running 3:36.
Butchart breaks BMC best Andy Butchart put in a strong contender for performance of the night, setting a BMC record over 3000m to win his race in 7:43.57, beating Jack Rowe’s PB run of 7:49.71
The men’s 5000m was PBs all the way for the podium placers – it was won by U23 Isaac Akers in 13:47.31, followed by Ellis Cross in 13:50.53 and Daniel Jarvis in 13:55.02. In the B race there was a breakthrough performance from welshman Osian Perrin who was first in the u20 5000m in 13:53.20 and set a new Welsh junior record.
The women’s 5000m had a strong lineup of new and very experienced talent, including one Jo Pavey who took to the track for the first time in three years. With Euro u/23 places up for grabs youth won out here too though with the U23s claiming the top three spots and new PBs in the process thanks to Izzy Fry with 15:49.25, Charlotte Dannatt with 16:06.70 and Naomi Land in 16:09.13.
On the roads, The City of Norwich Half Marathon was back with Natasha Cockram winning in 1:16:31 and Norman Shreeve was the winning man running 1:08:30.
In other news…. Good news from Parkrun this week, it's back in England and will restart on June the 26th.
Listener Questions - 10 mins
As the Euros have started, and Lunners knowing even less about football than I do, who would win the following football match: 1 horse with Lunners’ head, or 11 Lunners’ with a horses head - SHANE ROBINSON
I have a question if you don’t mind… do you all do S&C and if so what are you doing and how often? Do you periodise your S&C alongside your running programme? And, should a hobby runner, like me, with time goals (2:45 marathon at London) prioritise S&C over recovery or junk miles outside of the main sessions? SEAN DARNEY
How much do you know notice the crowd in a race and does a good cheering/support crew help you race? KAT CHANNING PHILLIPS
Alright lads. Looking to break sub 3 hour marathon time in Liverpool in October. Wondered if you could all recommend an interval session and a long run session I can build into my weekly training. Planning an 18 week block to give myself the best chance to achieve it. (Currently 3:19 PB with a 14 week block). Cheers. MARC JOYCE

British Trials 25th - 27th June in Manchester
Aaron continues his build up to Leeds 10000m (24th June, 1.5 more weeks).
Josh asks for friends to play COD with him.
A massive week in British distance running with the Olympic 10000m trials and we've got Tokyo-bound, Marc Scott, on to talk us through his race.
Matt has been gracing the trials with his presence in the B race.
Josh is hitting the miles, and worried about a hot air balloon ride.
Aaron is also racking up the miles, whilst moaning about pussies who use the treadmill when it's only 22 degrees outside.
The British Olympic 10,000m trials were exciting, with Eilish and Jess booking their tickets in the women's race, and Marc Scott securing his spot in the Men's.

TOM RAWLES had some feedback for us.
"One feature I'd love is a mention of how to view/stream upcoming UK events. As an outsider I find it really hard to find out ahead of time about races and where to watch them."
Follow us on insta, and we will try and share any events and streams we know of, to allow people to watch the best we have on offer.

Episode 2 is in the books (day late as Aaron has been sunning himself in Suffolk). Slight change to the plan, with @jennynesbitt1 stepping in last minute for a chat, after our planned interviewee fell ill. We discuss some terrible performances by @josh_lunn and @aaronscottruns, plus check in with @mattclowesy to see if his heart is on the mend. There’s the usual results & news roundup, which still needs work, but least we got most of the names right this week, and we answer a couple of listener questions. Please send us any feedback and we hope you all have an average week.
We're basically, jumping on back (copying) our idols at Inside Running Podcast in Australia. First weekly running pod with @mattclowesy (2:13), @aaronscottruns (2:16) and @josh_lunn (2:17). Talking training and interviewing big names on the UK scene.
There’s worrying news from North Wales were @mattclowesy needs some advice from any cardiologists out there. @aaronscottruns has a moan about footpaths that lead nowhere and @josh_lunn still hadn’t done his Sunday long run, despite it being 7pm at the time recording ended. We’ve got some listener questions and a little interview with @jakeliamsmith98 to kick the pod off. All feedback welcome, whether we take the feedback on board is another question though.
