Who could be a better guest for this topic than Mike Liewehr? He is the founder and CEO of the company Build.One. Build. One provides a low-code platform especially for more complex business application with a set of unique requirements.  Everyone who knows Franks Thelen has heard of Build. One for sure.

In this episode, we are talking about two important topics. Of course, we talk about low-code and no-code, but also we talk about financial planning and starting a FinTech.

I'm happy to have Alexa with me here today. She founded a company called Uplyft which helps especially women to get their private financial planning in order. Just a couple of weeks ago, the first version of their App launched. The app was developed (of course) with the no-code platform Glide.

Even though Alexa had a very successful position in her former career, she was driven by her vision to help women to get their financial planning right.

In this episode, I had the chance to have a chat with Kristen and Sophie from the company Highliner Technology.

Both had the idea of developing a software product which helps their clients to stay focus and organized in a chaotic world.

Sophie had no experience with software development but started the challenge of developing their own with the Bubble low-code platform. She will explain their challenges and how an organized boot camp helped her enormously.

This episode brought me a lot of joy. At this time I'm interviewing David Rosenberg who is the founder of Budget Referee. He is building the first MVP version of its application within bubble.io.  As I'm a big fan of bubble and of personal finance, I was very delighted to have a chance to speak with him.

We will cover the challenges of developing a digital product with no software development background and how low-code enabled him to start his journey.

Enjoy this episode and learn not only how to develop a digital product with low code but also how to start getting the first users on board.

This episode is slightly different from the others. This time we are also talking about low code and give a concrete example of an MVP that was built with low code.
But we are also touching on an even more important topic. Low Code is only the tool for you to start your business.
What is far more important is that you keep an eye on yourself physically and mentally. Social media as an example can give us a strange view on how start-ups or entrepreneurs should be like. Mostly without sleep, proper food, time for health and a lot of caffeine.

Does it really have to be like that? Does it really have to feel that hard?

In this episode we will discuss whether they can be other ways to build a long-lasting successful business that brings you joy.

In this episode, we are talking about a very important topic - renewable energy. Charlotte is the CO-Founder of variate.energy. Her start-up is developing a risk assessment service that helps companies to calculate the business risk associated with types of renewables energy based on its location.

They are two very interesting aspects about their solution. First, the service can help companies to overcome the hurdle of finding the right renewable energy resource and location. The second is that they built the service with a combination of low code and programming. It is a perfect example that your horizon is expanded once you combine low code with programming.

We also talk about how an acceleration program can start-ups getting off the ground and which acceleration programs variate.energy is attending.

If you think about menopause, you won't think about a young girl in their twenties starting a company with a goal to help women in menopause. This is exactly what Janna does with her company femfeel. Together with the help of many experts, the company developed an individual digital program that can help women in their menopause.

This goes far beyond just providing online courses, videos, or general tips. The uniqueness of their value proposition is that everything is individualized to the specific needs of the users.

I'm still overwhelmed by the internal motivation and power Janna has for her company. It is one thing to start a company besides your Master Studies, it's another thing to start a company about a topic that is still taboo in Germany.

Being a non-tech person, Janna used low code to start their journey and developed their own web application. They are still using it and already started a beta phase and inviting test users.

I'm pretty sure we will hear much more about feemfeel in the future.

Janna is using the following low code tools:

  • Zapier
  • AirTable
  • Webflow
  • Memberstack

A digital product is a possibility to scale your solution. This episode shows that scalability is not only for the sake of revenue or profit. It also gives you the possibility to help more people in their daily life.
“No pain should be told to be accepted” - I see many start-ups and ideas, but only a few of them are solving physical pain issues. Hayv is one of them.

Marius builds data-driven technology to make neurocentric training more accessible to a wide audience in order to improve long-term performance and resilience in physical movement. Neurocentric training is the key to solve these movement limitations, and Hayv has a mission to democratize this treatment by providing options to automatically build your individual neurocentric toolkit.

Anyone has this small nudge here and there. Or some movement that is limited. Or something they want to improve on. Even professional athletes. Neurocentric Training is the key to long-term performance and resilience. However, it is only accessible to a fraction of people.

It is an exceptional story about a unique solution that can solve a problem which thousands of people have.

  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • AirTable

In this episode, we learn from Jan how he solved an actual business problem with the help of low code. The initial problem was how to find a potential podcast guest. Being a podcast host myself I can really feel this pain as I’m always looking for new guests who should share their stories and give practical advice.

HalloPodcaster is a very good example of solving a pretty obvious problem. How to connect Podcast Hosts and interview guests efficiently?

With a very lean concept, they started to bring their concept of HalloPodcaster into life. At the beginning, there was no advanced software development - just a pure website with simple contact formulas to validate the first hypothesis. While both (Jan and Anika) already had their main business they started this journey together as a side business to see whether there is business potential.

Jan was able to build the HalloPodcaster application with low code completely by himself. Just with the help of YouTube videos and forums.

Jan is using the following low code tools:

  • Zapier
  • Integromat
  • AirTable
  • Jetboost
  • Webflow
  • Memberstack

This vision of Lilith and her company VisualMakers is to enable everyone to build software. I couldn't agree more on that, as this was exactly the same vision I had in my mind when building my own company.

In this episode, we cover some very interesting aspects of low code, which are not technical. We are talking about the effects low code has on your team or organization. How does a team change if now everyone is able to develop prototypes and test their own ideas? We are talking about how low code can have positive effects on a failure culture within your organization, and how even creativity can be increased by low code.

I think Lilith and her story about funding her company is a role model and should get more public attraction. It is a perfect example that you can start a company with a CO-Founder which you don't know for a long time and is not even in your own city.

Lilith is using the following tools (her favorite ones):

  • Zapier
  • Integromat

In this episode, I had the pleasure to talk with Matt Bourn. He is the owner of the company fivexfive. He is an absolute expert when it comes to business automation and process optimization with low code tools. In this episode, Matt gives very concrete use cases when business automation makes sense and how a company should start automating its business. In addition to that, we were talking about the required change management. When it comes to business automation, there is not only a technical perspective. The more crucial is how to involve the people affected by these changes. Matt is sharing his very helpful experiences on that.
On top of that, we talked about the fear of selling your own services and make yourself vulnerable. Especially when you just started your own company and have no selling experience in your previous career.

Matt is using the following low code tools:

  • Zapier
  • Airtable
  • Parabola

Documint.me

He is a big fan of the company Documint.me. Maybe we will have the owner in of our episodes in the future ;)

This episode is for everyone who thinks about automating their own business processes. It is not only on a technical level, mostly on a strategical one. This episode is also interesting for everyone who started their own business and struggles with the selling processes.

In this episode, we will cover the advantages of low code for medium-sized companies. Especially in Germany, the Mittelstand companies or Hidden Champions have a very huge economical relevance.
Therefore, it is even more important to use the given technologies to further strengthen the business model. Low Code can help here in various ways. Either to improve internal processes and gain productivity. Other than that, the Mittelstand can use low code to develop new products and open up new business opportunities.

Can is using the following low code tools:

  • Wordpress
  • E-flow
  • Bubble.io

Can is an absolute expert in this field. He just recently founded his own company, 360 digital transformation. You can find much information about his company and upcoming webinars on his page: https://360dt.de/ On top of that you can find Can on LinkedIn and Youtube.

He also recently wrote an interesting article about the future of low code.

To improve the overall entrepreneurial spirit and its failure attitude, he organizes Fuck Up nights where knowledge can be shared and learnings gathered.

This episode is highly recommended for everyone working in medium-sized companies and want to learn more about the usage of low code.

When I first met Sandro, I was completely impressed by his attitude. Sandro is studying Business Administration and is working as an entrepreneur in residence. He is managing the product Start-up job list.  He gets much support from the company Pirate where he got his first insights into the start-up world.

Sandro is using the following low code tools:

  • Zapier
  • Wordpress
  • Airtable
  • Fastbill
  • Mailchimp

This episode is for everyone who likes to get more experience about entrepreneurship but can't afford to start a company from stretch.

We also talk a lot about the German start-up culture in general. What do we really need to change to have more of an entrepreneurial mindset? Where can universities support at the very beginning and what else can we do.
