In this episode, we break down the 2023 roster of our division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders. The outlook of this team points to them finishing last in the AFC West with 5-6 total wins. They swapped QB Derek Carr, who holds numerous team passing records, for the often-injured Jimmy Garoppalo. They are struggling to come to terms on a long-term contract with RB Josh Jacobs, who is currently franchised tagged. They added to their wide receiver that already included Davante Adams, and traded away their star tight end Darren Waller. The offensive line is the same starting five from a season ago and should gel better than the previous season. Defensively is where this roster starts to fall apart. Maxx Crosby is a bonafide defensive player of the year candidate, and the drafting of edge rusher Tyree Wilson will pay dividends in future years, but there are question marks with Jerry Tillery, Bilal Nichols, and a large number of young interior talent fighting for a roster spot. Devine Diablo is a breakout candidate, but a combination of Robert Spillane, Luke Masterson, and Darian Beavers shows the weakness of this position. The Los Angeles Chargers had their season ended with heartbreak. After starting with a 27-0 lead, the Chargers fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a last-second field goal. In Justin Herbert’s playoff debut, the Bolts failed to score points in the second half of the game and embarrassingly lost in one of the biggest playoff comebacks in NFL history.
Last year, it was the Charger's inability to defend the run on defense that lost them games. This year, it was their inability to establish the run on offense. They managed just seven total rushing yards in the second half of the wildcard round, paving the way for Jaguar's epic comeback and leading to the loss of employment for Joe Lombardi and Shane Day. We touch on some offensive coordinator replacements to close out the season.

Lots going on as the Los Angeles Chargers are headed to playoffs. First, the Chargers lost to the Denver Broncos in a meaningless game. To add insult to injury, Brandon Staley took quite a bit of slack for letting his starters play as much as he did with scared to Mike Williams, Joey Bosa, and Kenneth Murray, and keeping Justin Herbert in as long as he did. Nothing major, but the entire NFL world has had something to say about it. Now the Chargers travel to Jacksonville to play the 4th seed and AFC South Divisional winners. The Jaguars are the most surprising team to make playoffs, and if the Chargers are as good as the preseason hype indicated, they should make short work of Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars.
The first regular season battle for SoFi Stadium was won by the Los Angeles Chargers. The Los Angeles Rams were not at full strength, but the record books will show that the Chargers are 1-0 against their roommates. Austin Ekeler won AFC Player of the Week after averaging over 10 yards a carry and adding two touchdowns to his league-leading total. Joey Bosa returned on a snap count and will look to add more playing time against the Denver Broncos as the Chargers continue playoff preparations. The NFL regular season may be coming to an end, but there are still nearly two months of football left if the Chargers can keep this win streak alive. The Chargers started 2023 off with a jolt of lightning.
The Los Angeles Chargers punched their ticket to the NFL Playoffs following a 20-3 beatdown over the Indianapolis Colts last week on Monday Night Football. Head Coach Brandon Staley has his defense playing at an elite level over the past three weeks and it all culminated into one of the best performances of the year against Indy. The Bolts finished the game with three interceptions and seven sacks while holding the Colts to 173 total yards of offense. With LA playing dominant defense, it's now time for Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi to unleash the potential of superstar quarterback Justin Herbert fully. If the Chargers can do that, they will be an absolute force come playoff time.
This week the Chargers will wrap up their 2022 home slate as they welcome their cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, to SoFi Stadium. The Rams may be wounded but they still boast some great playmakers and will enter the game with nothing to lose. With no chance at the playoffs and with no way of improving their draft stock, the Rams have nothing to lose. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Los Angeles Chargers got it done in crunch time and kept their playoff hopes alive, narrowly defeating the Arizona Cardinals 25-24 last Sunday. Despite being gashed on the ground and allowing 181 rushing yards, the Bolts' defense dug in late in the fourth quarter and didn’t allow a single first down over Arizona’s final four drives. This kept L.A. in the game and opened the door for a majestic game-winning drive led by Justin Herbert who finished 35-for-47 with 274 yards and three touchdowns. The last time the Los Angeles Chargers played the Arizona Cardinals was in 2018 when the Chargers blew them out 45-10. Josh Rosen was the Cardinal's quarterback and their record was 2-7, eventually leading to them drafting Kyler Murray as the first overall pick in the next draft. Philip Rivers completed 25 straight passes in that game, breaking a record for most consecutive completions in one game in NFL history. Can Justin Herbert and the 2022 Chargers do something similar in Arizona this year?
The Shock Therapy guys are back to break down a thrilling, back-and-forth battle last week on Sunday Night Football. Josh Palmer hauled in his second touchdown of the game on a dime from Justin Herbert to put the chargers up with less than two minutes to play. The Bolts allowed too much time on the clock as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense stormed down the field. The Chargers defense had a great chance to close the game in the final seconds but Travis Kelce was able to find the endzone to give KC a 30-27 victory. The heartbreaking loss pushes the Bolts to 5-5 on the year as they sit one game out of playoff contention.

No Zac Alfers this week, but I had to break down the Chargers nailbiter at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Chargers beat the Falsons 20-17 after Cameron Dicker hit a game winning field goal. What an insane situation the Chargers found themselves after Austin Ekeler’s fumble. Dicker the Kicker became the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Speaking of Special Teams, I gave a pretty interesting history about the Chargers Special Teams Units over the last few decades that is worth noting.

The Los Angeles Chargers played a tight game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead. Justin Herbert showed guts and toughness and why he is one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. In obvious pain, Herbert gave the Chargers a chance in the football game with a dime to DeAndre Carter in the closing minutes. The Chargers had a chance with the onside, but couldn't close when they needed to.
Defensively, Patrick Mahomes nearly threw multiple interceptions, but the Chargers couldn't capitalize when it mattered most. Still, the run defense was stout but it takes one play to dramatically change the game's tide. Asante Samuel Jr. was the defensive star of the game.
The Chargers have 10 days of rest that should hopefully get Keenan Allen, Justin Herbert, and Corey Linsley back to total health. Up next, The Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Los Angeles Chargers successfully enacted revenge upon the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, defeating their division rival by a final score of 24-19. Khalil Mack silenced his doubters by vehemently dominating every snap he took, finishing with three sacks, six tackles, three TFL’s, four QB hits and a forced fumble, re-establishing himself as one of the baddest humans on the planet. Justin Herbert also impressed, going 26-of-34 passing with 279 yards and three TD’s while throwing no picks and never taking a sack. The most impressive part is that Herbert did this without having his favorite target in Keenan Allen for most of the game as Slayer came up hobbling in the 2nd quarter with a hamstring injury. The Bolts will have a short week as they head to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football. KC is fresh off a 44-21 beat down over the Arizona Cardinals this past week. Will the Chargers revamped defense be enough to contain Patrick Mahomes and Co.? The Las Vegas Raiders travel to Los Angeles to play the Chargers at SoFi Stadium to kick off the 2022 NFL season. Question marks for the Raiders include their offensive line that looks worse than it was last season, especially with Josh McDaniels parting ways with offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood who was their first-round draft pick in 2021. The Chargers will also need to find a way to stop Davante Adams if JC Jackson is unable to play. This will be the first matchup with the Chargers pass rush duo of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. This could be a record-breaking year for sacks if the hype comes to fruition.
