Welcome to Brownell's Best. A podcast that will highlight the writing of the students of Brownell Middle School.
Fifth-grader Anthony M. shares his Grosse Pointe Writing Assessment piece with us. A lover of fantasy and Dungeons and Dragons, Anthony's piece is one of the most dramatic pieces yet.
In the first of our Grosse Pointe Writing Assessment pieces, 8th grader Michael W. shares his piece of adding a class to help learn about and fight racism. We also are joined by Ms. Guyton who recommended this piece and her thoughts on what Michael's piece means to her.
This summer we will be highlighting some of the best writing of Brownell students when they took the Grosse Pointe Writing Assessment. We give you a short history lesson in this episode, explaining what exactly the Grosse Pointe Writing Assessment is and why it's administered.
Eighth-grader Lauren returns for a third time. This visit has her sharing her graduation speech that she read at the Brownell 8th grade graduation on June 14.
In this episode, we go off script and talk to a student NOT about their writing, but their achievements in rowing. Eighth-grader Brennan has become a top-notch rower and is headed to Nationals to compete for a chance to go to the World Championships.
Episode 5 has us sit down with 8th graders Lauren, Lorelei, and Emilia as they read their Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest-winning essays. This year's topic honors the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. As Memorial Day approaches, this episode remembers those who gave the last full measure.
Fifth graders Addy, Chloe, and Maddie join us and share their collaborative piece "Alex in Wonderland". Combining several classic fairytale stories, these three put a new twist on the Wonderland epic.
Sixth graders Alexandra, Caroline, Tazmeen, and David share their poems that are based on the style of Ted Kooser's poem "The Abandoned Farmhouse". We learn more about what they value in their lives and the people they love.
In this episode, 8th grader Syrianna shares her social studies writing assignment, The Journal of Earl Cash. We talk about the significance of the quilt that is featured in this piece and how this writing has changed Syrianna.
