Most weeks, your marriage gets whatever energy is left after everything else. What if this week looked a little different?
We're walking through seven daily marriage challenges, one for every day of the week, pulled straight from what's live in the One Degree Marriage app. You don't have to start on a Monday. Pick any day, go seven days, and see what shifts. Along the way, we share why we started One Degree in the first place, what the "one degree" philosophy actually means for your marriage, and why we're convinced that small, consistent investments are what lead to a completely different destination years down the road.

We've all said "I'm sorry" and watched it do absolutely nothing: no softening, no reconciliation, just more tension in the room. In this episode, we get honest about the apologies that don't actually work: the quick "let's just move on," the defensive "I'm sorry you feel that way," and the classic apology with an unspoken "but" attached. We also talk about why most of us were never taught to do this well in the first place.
We walk through a simple, four-part framework for apologies that actually repair connection instead of just ending the argument: name it, own it, acknowledge the impact, and state the change. It's a small shift in wording and posture, but it changes everything about whether your spouse feels heard or just placated.
In this episode:
Grab a seat on the comfy, cozy, virtual leather couch with us for this one. It's practical, a little convicting, and genuinely hopeful about what a well-repaired conflict can do for a marriage.
This week's One Degree Shift: Next time you owe an apology, run it through the framework: name it, own it, acknowledge the impact, and voice the repair. No "but." No brushing it under the rug.

Christian marriage podcast, communication in marriage, rebuilding trust, conflict repair
We've all been there: it's 11:37pm, you're exhausted, and you're still hashing out a fight because somebody said don't go to bed angry. But what if pushing through to "resolution" at midnight is actually making things worse?
This week we're unpacking one of the most repeated pieces of marriage advice, Ephesians 4:26's "do not let the sun go down on your anger," and why the literal, deadline version of it can backfire. We walk through what Paul is actually saying in context, why exhaustion turns conflict resolution into surrender instead of repair, and what to do instead when you're both too tired to finish the conversation tonight.

Plenty of marriages survive without them. But if you want yours to actually thrive, there are four things worth building on purpose.
In this episode, we walk through the four things we believe every thriving marriage needs: a shared faith, deep trust, healthy communication, and genuine fun and friendship.
In this episode:
If this episode encouraged you, share it with one couple who needs it — and leave a review to help more couples find this Christian marriage podcast.
"Follow your heart." "Trust your gut." "Do what feels right." We've all heard it, and if we're honest, we've all let it shape how we treat the people we love most. But what happens on the days your heart doesn't feel like loving your spouse?
In this episode, we dig into why feelings-based decision making is one of the sneakiest threats to a healthy marriage. We unpack where the "follow your heart" mindset actually comes from (hint: it's not the Bible), why feelings are fragile and easily hijacked by stress, sleep, and hormones, and why 1 Corinthians 13 describes love as a list of actions, not an emotion you catch.
This is a Christian marriage podcast conversation about communication in marriage, choosing love over feelings, and rebuilding the habits that quietly shape your connection — one degree at a time.

We've all heard it: "When's the last time you two went on a date?" Like date nights are the magic fix for a marriage that feels stuck. In this episode, we push back on that, and we get real about what actually moves the needle.
We talk about why date nights became the default advice for every marriage problem, why they can even backfire if the deeper stuff isn't being addressed, and what we've found actually strengthens our marriage on a weekly basis... no babysitter or budget required.
In this episode:
Resources & mentions:
One-degree shift: Start a weekly marriage meeting: even 20 minutes on a Sunday night to talk through highs, lows, faith, finances, and intimacy. It won't cost you anything, and it'll do more for your marriage than any date night could.

Most of us know we should be growing spiritually. We even know we should be encouraging our spouse to do the same. But somewhere between good intentions and real life, it just… doesn't happen. We wait for the right season, the right Bible study, or for them to take the first step.
In this episode, we get honest about our own inconsistencies: the prayer ruts, the accountability groups that faded after the babies came, the moments when the spirit is willing but the routine has quietly collapsed. And we walk through four simple, doable ways to pursue your own faith and gently invite your spouse along for the journey.
This isn't about pressure or spiritual scorekeeping. It's about small, intentional shifts that create a marriage where faith is lived out loud, together.
In this episode:
Resources we mention:
Your one-degree shift this week: Pray for your spouse right now, specifically. Name a burden they're carrying. Ask God to soften both of your hearts. Then ask your spouse what they'd love for you to bring to the Lord on their behalf.

You scroll past an anniversary post or a friend's date night photo, and the thought slips in: why don't we have that? If that sounds familiar, comparison is quietly costing your marriage more than you realize.
In this episode, we get honest about comparison in marriage and why it is such a sneaky threat to contentment. We talk about why social media makes comparing your marriage to other couples easier than any generation before us, how comparison breeds ungratefulness and ungratefulness breeds discontentment, and what the Garden of Eden's blame game reveals about why comparison is really a trust issue. Then we get practical: the real difference between toxic comparison and a healthy desire to grow, and how to curate what we follow so it builds our marriage instead of quietly tearing it down.

You're probably pretty good at the logistics. Who's getting the kids, who's making dinner, who remembered to call the plumber. But when's the last time you and your spouse slowed down long enough to ask: where are we actually going?
In this episode, we're talking about the one conversation that tends to get skipped in even the healthiest marriages — casting a vision for your family. Not a financial roadmap or a five-year career plan, but the deeper stuff: What do we want our family to be known for? What culture are we building? Are we actually living out what we say we value?
We get into why this conversation stays missing for most couples (spoiler: it's not laziness), what it actually looks like to sit down and do it, and we model it live with our own answers so you can hear how messy and real it can be.

Every marriage needs guardrails. But does a rule about never being alone with someone of the opposite sex actually protect you, or just give you a false sense of security?
In Episode 160, we tackle the Billy Graham Rule head-on: what it is, why it exists, and whether married couples actually need to follow it. We share our honest take while also making clear that "not following the rule" doesn't mean "not guarding your marriage." The real protection, we'd argue, comes from something a lot harder than a policy.

You said "I do," and then assumed sex would just figure itself out. For a lot of couples, it doesn't. And the silence around that can make you feel like you're the only one struggling.
In this episode, we get honest about the first three years of our marriage, when sex felt more like a burden than a blessing, and what we wish someone had told us sooner. We unpack the lingering weight of purity culture, the lie that physical intimacy should "just come naturally," and the small shifts that slowly turned things around. Whether you're a newlywed, engaged and prepping for the marriage bed, or a long-married couple wanting to grow, this conversation offers a hopeful, faith-informed look at what healthy intimacy in a Christian marriage can actually look like, and how to start talking about it without shame.

Your marriage isn't in crisis. There's no betrayal. No big fight. No broken trust. You're both showing up, doing your jobs, putting food on the table, and somewhere along the way, "showing up" quietly turned into "going through the motions."
That's a rut. And it's the most common (and most overlooked) season in a marriage.
In this episode, we unpack a Yahoo column about a husband whose answer to "I feel unseen" was "but we have a nice house" and why that response is way more common than we'd like to admit. Then they walk through the five small habits they keep coming back to for getting out of a rut: the Weekly Marriage Meeting, the daily high/low/buffalo, praying together, intentionally mixing things up, and outside accountability.
A reminder that you can't coast your way to connection, but you can take one small step back toward each other this week.
What if the secret to deeper friendships, stronger family rhythms, and richer Christian community wasn't a bigger house or a better-cooked meal, but simply opening your door every Friday night?
Let's chat about our weekly "Sabbath Kickoff Dinner"—a standing Friday night meal with friends and kids that's become the most anticipated part of our week. We unpack the difference between cultural hospitality (perfect table settings, drinks-in-hand, flawless meals) and biblical hospitality (Mary vs. Martha, authentic fellowship, shared life), and why lowering your expectations is the key to actually getting started.
If you've ever thought, "I'd love to host, but our house isn't ready" or "I don't have time for that" — this episode is for you.
In this episode, we're getting honest about one of the sneakiest marriage killers: ungratefulness. We've found in our own marriage, and in the couples we talk to, that the longer you're together, the easier it is to start taking your spouse for granted. The things that once drew you to them? You stop noticing. And the things that bother you? They seem to get louder.

We wrap with a practical one-degree shift you can try this week: keeping a daily gratitude list specifically about your spouse.

What does it really mean for wives to “submit” to their husbands in Ephesians 5?
In this episode, we unpack one of the most controversial passages in the Bible about marriage: “Wives, submit to your husbands.”
Is submission blind obedience?
Does it mean tolerating sin or abuse?
Is it outdated or oppressive?
Or is it something deeper, and actually freeing?
We explore:
If you’ve wrestled with this passage (or avoided it altogether) this conversation will help you think biblically, clearly, and courageously about your role in marriage.

It’s easy to read Scripture with your spouse in mind.
In marriage, we often approach the Bible looking for what they should change instead of allowing God’s Word to confront us first. But Scripture was never meant to be a tool for managing your spouse’s obedience. It’s meant to shape your own heart.
In this episode of the One Degree Marriage Podcast, we talk about why the Bible addresses individuals before relationships, how passages like Ephesians 5 are often misunderstood, and why obedience in marriage isn’t meant to be transactional. We also discuss what faithfulness looks like when your spouse isn’t changing, how to pursue obedience without resentment, and when bringing in wise counsel is both biblical and necessary.
This conversation is for Christian couples who want a stronger, healthier marriage but feel stuck focusing on what their spouse isn’t doing instead of what God is calling them to do.
In this episode, we cover:

• Being more intentional about serving in our local church
• Slowing down and soaking up this sweet (and chaotic) season with our kids

What if sharing your faith felt as natural as chatting with a coworker over lunch? In this episode of One Degree Podcast, we break down practical evangelism strategies—like the “Three Circles” and the “bridge” analogy—that make it easier to share the gospel in everyday conversations without feeling preachy.
We also dive into the church’s role in equipping believers, looking at how the early church’s personal, set-apart approach can inspire modern evangelism. Plus, we share a powerful story of door-to-door evangelism that highlights the impact of small acts of kindness and prayer.
Join the One Degree Fam in the conversation on Instagram—we’d love to hear your thoughts! Tune in and learn how to make evangelism a natural part of your daily life.
If you’re a Christian, you probably know you should share your faith—but actually doing it? That’s a different story. Maybe you feel confident and wonder why others don’t share the gospel more often. Maybe you’ve tried, but it felt awkward and forced. Or maybe you don’t even know where to start and feel guilty every time you think about it.
Wherever you land, this episode is for you. Too often, Christians are told to evangelize but aren’t taught how to do it in a sincere, authentic, and non-awkward way. That’s what we’re unpacking in this two-part series.
Nathaniel shares how his views on evangelism radically changed during seminary—going from adamantly opposed to door-to-door evangelism to leading groups in his own neighborhood. While the takeaway here isn’t that you need to start knocking on doors, it is that sharing your faith is worth it and can be done naturally in everyday life.
In this episode, we cover the why and who of evangelism:
🔹 Why evangelism matters (hint: the Great Commission)
🔹 How our understanding of salvation fuels our desire to share
🔹 Who we should be sharing with (using the Oikos Map)
The One Degree Shift: Pray specifically for someone in your life who doesn’t know Christ. Ask God to soften their heart, open their eyes, and give you natural opportunities to share the gospel.

Plus, we’ll discuss what it looks like to observe the Sabbath today, how it benefits our physical and spiritual health, and why making rest a regular part of our lives is a crucial practice for honoring God. One of the hardest things for us to do is take joy in or recognize the purpose of mundane repetitive tasks in life.
This is especially true if you have young kids. Changing thousands of diapers, doing thousands of loads of laundry, doing thousands of dishes, etc...
It can be very easy for these tasks to become discouraging and for us to feel purposeless as we spend so much of our time doing them.
So here are ways we can foster an eternal mindset in the mundane

This is the final episode in our mini-series diving into different views on hell. Last week we discussed Universalism and Ultimate Reconciliation, and in this episode, we will cover the view of purgatory.
Purgatory can be argued from an orthodox, evangelical perspective. Recently, we’ve been familiarizing ourselves with this view.

This week we're starting a mini-series on a more serious, heavier topic: four different views on hell. This week, we're looking at the view called "Eternal Conscious Torment."
As we dive into our series on hell, we want you to have an open mind and search the scriptures for yourself. Evaluate your beliefs in light of Scripture. Oftentimes, we have assumptions about what we believe and throw around a few verses to support our arguments and don’t give it a second thought. So, we want to encourage you to dive in for yourself.
Also, let's remember the rules of hermeneutics (interpreting the Bible):
In Christian culture, it's common to use “Christianese” words without exactly knowing what they mean. So today we’re gonna break down one of those: sanctification. What does it mean to be sanctified? Is it our doing, or God's? Is there anything we can do to grow in sanctification?

If you haven't listened to last week's episode- before you read this, you should go back and either listen to it or read the show notes! Also, pause and watch this video: Francis Chan the REAL American Dream (it's only about 6 minutes)! Now that you've done the homework, we can jump into this episode!
In the last episode, we talked about our personal experience and why we decided to become foster parents. This week, we're talking more about how Christians are called to foster care. We'll also talk about some of the pushback we could (and do) get against this conviction.
We're not experts. We aren't coming at this conversation from a high horse. But we do want to challenge you to be involved in some way in the foster care system.

You've probably heard us mention over the past few months that we are now foster parents to a teenage girl! We are not pretending to be experts- we've only been foster parents for four months, but just wanted to share our hearts and thoughts about foster care. It has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding and growing experiences that we’ve ever had.
In this episode, we’re gonna talk about why we started foster care, and in the next episode, we are going to issue a challenge to other Christians on why they should consider doing it.

How do we reconcile verses like James 2:14-26 (which emphasizes the necessity of works) with verses like Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 4, and Galatians 2:16 (which emphasize the pure necessity of faith)? Does the Bible contradict itself?
We're going to be digging into these verses and discussing their differences and their applications for us as believers (because as always, we have these discussions to lead to more faithfulness in our own lives) in this episode.

On this week's episode, we’re gonna be talking about the importance of transparent, healthy, honest communication in marriage.
A lot of times we think about the big/”flashy”/obvious parts of marriage to diagnose how we’re doing –frequency of date nights away from the kids, weekends away, etc... It's actually about how we’re communicating and engaging each other in the everyday mundane that makes the biggest impact on the overall health of our marriage
Plenty of people get divorced after consistent date nights. They date a lot, but fail to focus on the essential communication skills that are necessary for a healthy marriage.
Let’s talk about how you can practically focus on the daily, mundane conversations!

Have you ever intentionally fasted for spiritual purposes? Maybe you've read about it in Scripture, thought about implementing it as a spiritual practice in your life, but weren't sure where to start or if it was right for you.
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is not talked about much in the modern church, and unless you are a Catholic during Lent, is practiced even less. Yet examples of fasting permeate the Bible.
In this episode, we dive into what Scripture lays out as fasting and discuss the implications for modern-day believers.

In this episode, we're continuing our occasional series where we take a deeper look at verses that are often taken out of context. We often hear one-liner verses used to justify something. But when you look at the context of the verse, you realize that verse doesn't really mean what people use it to say. We want to make sure that we use Scripture in the way it was intended.
In this episode, we're looking at 1 Peter 5:8...
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
Many people take this passage to explain any time they are struggling with sin...people use this verse when they are struggling with porn, coveting, anger, etc...but is it always really Satan? Let's talk about it.

In today's world where political and social issues are constantly full of tension, and often outrage, we must ask ourselves the question: How does my identity as a follower of Christ impact the lens through which I view politics?
We know that as Christians, we are called to live and engage in this world without becoming of it. We know that while we are citizens of our countries, our first and ultimate allegiance is to Christ and growing His Kingdom. Being a Christian doesn't mean we're a republican any more than being a Christian means we're a democrat. We're called to submit to and pray for our governing authorities, regardless of where they lie on the political spectrum. And ultimately, the demeanor we as Christians take when engaging in politics should exemplify Christ.
In this episode we chat all about politics through a biblical worldview, focusing on eight principles you as a Christian should consider regarding your engagement in the political realm.

"If an addict is talking about freedom from addiction, in my mind, humility is my journey away from an egotistical, "I am the center of my universe" mindset. I am a recovering "egotistian" (is that a word?). This conversation is not coming from a place of arrival, but a continuous journey." -Jake Hatfield
Living with humility is merely to recognize and live in reality. Anything that we pursue (money, fame, etc...) will come to an end. Humility is living in the reality that we are not in charge.

As the American Church, we've often come to view discipleship as a meeting with someone for an hour a week at a coffee shop, sitting, studying the Bible, and praying. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this, if this is allwe view discipleship as, we're missing out.
In this episode (part 1 of 2), we're chatting all about where we tend to miss the mark. Next week we'll be talking all about what discipleship should look like.

In this episode, we’re talking about a hotly debated question- should you give to people who beg for money?
This question was posed in one Nathaniel's classes (Ethics of Wealth and Poverty) for an assignment.
When you are walking on the street or driving in your car, and you see someone asking for money, should you give it to them?
Everyone has faced a scenario similar to this. Unless you live off the grid, in which case you probably aren’t actually reading this. This is a question Christians NEED to wrestle with and need to be prepared for.
Failing to plan is planning to fail. If we don’t know how we biblically and personally want to approach these kinds of situations we will default to either not giving money or giving a little bit of change but wondering if we’re doing the right thing.
FREE GUIDE TO STUDYING YOUR BIBLE THEOLOGICALLY
Today we're doing a deep dive into what can be a hot topic in the Church: speaking in tongues. Tongues is clearly described as a spiritual gift in Scripture, but there is much debate over whether it has ceased, whether it's required for pastors/elders, whether it's the true mark of a Believer, etc.
In this episode we break down what the Bible says about speaking in tongues, and how we believe those references should be interpreted.

There are many times that we hear Bible verses, whether through listening to a podcast, reading a blog, or even listening to a sermon. When we hear only a single verse it can sound like it means one thing, but when we evaluate the context (the chapters surrounding that verse, who the author was, who the audience was, the historical component, etc), it actually means something totally different than we originally thought.
In this part 2 of our "What in the Actual Context" series (here's part 1 where we break down Philippians 4:13 and Jeremiah 29:11), we break down 1 Corinthians 14:33 – "For God is not a god of confusion, but of peace."

When most people think of who they aspire to be like, or asked in their wildest dreams who they would want to trade places with for a day, they would say a famous athlete, a famous music artist, and popular celebrity, or even a popular Christian celebrity. These types of people are the most followed people in the world on social media.
They are the type of people we aspire to be like: we want to be rich like them, we want to be famous like them, we want to be as good-looking as them, etc. Maybe we want to have the same accomplishments or level of fame! If you're in the church culture, you're probably less likely to give these answers. But even if we don’t consciously say we want to be like these people, when we consistently fill our minds paying attention to them and following them, we will inevitably start being shaped by them. You are being discipled and influenced by them, in one way or another. We chat about the effects of this and how to be more mindful of our influences in this episode!

On this episode of the podcast, we're joined by Sean and Adrienne Robinson to discuss something they live out so well in their own life – hospitality.
If you've ever felt like you want to grow in hospitality but you don't have the right space in your home, or you're already up to your eyeballs with toddler routines, or some other hangup, this episode is for you. Sean and Adrienne drop some truth bombs about the biblical foundation for hospitality, how it fleshes out in their own lives, whether it comes naturally to them, the cultural trend of "me time," and what they'd say to the person wanting to grow in their hospitality within the local church.

So many people (ourselves included) talk in terms of "going" to church, but if we honestly look at the biblical definitions of these terms, it would be more accurate to say “we’re gathering with the church” on Sunday mornings or “I’m meeting with ______ at the ______ building.”

We’re coming at you today with a hot topic: is masturbation sinful?
We want to talk about this because too often we shy away from these types of topics within the church. Obviously, we don’t necessarily think that this should be a topic for the Sunday morning pulpit, but Christians need to talk about this.
We’ve heard godly Christians say that it is sinful, and we’ve heard godly Christians say that it isn’t. So what do we think? Let's talk about it.

This episode is all about something that we tend to think is not a big deal or something we don't give much second thought to–what we read, watch, and listen to.
Why should we be aware of what we read, watch, and listen to? How can those things affect us?
We talk about our personal experiences with media consumption and struggles, and what the Bible says about what we read, watch, and listen to. We close with six general principles for media consumption and evaluation through a gospel-centered perspective.

Why is online church so popular now? Is it okay to just watch the sermon from my couch on Sunday mornings? What is the purpose of the church?
We dive into all these questions in this episode!
To clarify before we begin, there are two different ways to talk about the church- the Big C church, and the little c church. The Church is the entire body of Christ- all born-again believers across the world. They make up the global church. The church is the local gathering of believers. To clarify- we’re talking about the "little c" church in this episode.

This episode is part two of a mini-series on Gender Roles in Marriage! Last week, in Episode No. 24, we talked about what the Bible actually says about the role of wives in marriage. This week, it's all about the husbands.
Like we said last week, please don’t dismiss what we have to say, give it some thought and prayer, and examine what we say against the Bible, and see for yourself if what we are saying is accurate and true.
What does Scripture have to say about husbands and the role of men in marriage? To be clear, we’re specifically talking about husbands and wives, not gender roles in general for men and women.

Before we dive in, we want to give a little caveat. We're only 3 years into parenting, so we're humbly recognizing our limitations in perspective, experience, and wisdom in parenting. But we're able to look to Scripture for wisdom, so the Bible is what we're relying on here.

In this episode, we're talking about whether or not you know what you believe and why that is important.
We're not necessarily talking about your political, scientific, social, etc... beliefs (although these are definitely important). We're talking about your theological beliefs. What do you believe about God, Scripture, Jesus, salvation, etc...? Hopefully, a solid theological foundation will transcend and shape your beliefs on other things.

What's all the buzz around "nontoxic living"? Should being a Christian change our approach to exercise, sleep, food choices, and the types of products we fill our home with?
In this episode we get real about two different camps people in our communities often fall into: the camp that tends to not take as good of care of their physical health, and the camp that tends to hold their control of their physical health maybe a little too tightly.
As always, we get into what the Bible says, and practically flesh out how this should transform our lives.
