Allison Nelson is a business coach for solopreneurs who want to learn how to get consistent clients online. Using her past experiences in marketing, counseling, and education she strategizes with female, service-based entrepreneurs to build their organic marketing. With their newfound strategies, Allison’s clients take their side hustle to consistent income.

Though she started with a product-based business she noticed that a lot of women in her audience wanted to learn how she built and sustained it. This led her to the path she is on now that has enabled her to grow her business enough to bring her husband in full-time as her partner.

During our conversation, Allison shared a downward turn in 2020 when her husband's salary was cut in half, and then his job was completely gone due to Covid in April 2020. She’d started a very small, side hustle coaching business and had a small FB group with no real strategy. With many leaps of faith the business grew, but not without determination and faith.

Listen in to find out how, when her husband lost his job, they took the setback as an opportunity, not something to suffer with. We explore:

  • the dynamics of working with your life partner,
  • why you need to be clear on your money goals and the reasons for them, and
  • how to be who your business and clients need you to be for the results you want

“Belief in yourself and taking leaps of faith are a huge part of how I coach and what I try to instill in my clients, especially in the early stages of their business.” ~ Allison Nelson

Have you ever found yourself being weighed down by life? Or maybe it's not all of life but the thoughts keep you stuck. Leslie Urbas joined me for this episode of Zig Zag Leap, Freedom from what weighs you down. Leslie served as a dietitian in the United States Navy before transitioning to a civilian job at the base. She left that job for another civilian job that ended in a devastating way. After being fired from that job, she found herself depressed and wondering what was next.

Eventually, she started selling Beach Body but her higher calling told her there was more. She could use her hard-earned skills to start her own business.

What followed was a series of zig zag leaps that brought back her confidence, increased her self-awareness, and helped her flip how nutrition and dieting are approached. Following her higher calling down her own path has also changed the lives of the women she coaches.

Tanya and her husband are high-school sweethearts from middle-class America who went off to college, got married, followed all the rules, played it safe, and pursued the American dream. When they found themselves boxed in, we decided to make a U-turn and make the dreams they had as teenagers a reality.

In 2008, they left the safety of suburbia and bought and moved aboard a sailing catamaran, s/v Take Two—with our four children under age eight (a fifth was born while living on the boat). The boat became a kind of classroom for all of us, and I decided to write a book about our travels and what living on the boat had taught us about life and love. We returned to the U.S. in 2019 after several years in the Caribbean, and our kids are now teenagers, beginning to follow their own adventures. Living this way isn't easy, but it is rewarding!
