hand in hand with bibs & dan…

podcast meets vlog meets asmr with this one.

sit by the ocean with us, as we unwind from a long day at work. we don't discuss much of anything in this episode. the intention behind it is that we just exist for a few moments together. no big convos or revelatory thoughts. just enjoying nature, and each other's company.fair warning, I snack throughout the whole thing so if crunching isn’t your thang then maybe skip this one.

also, this is probably best enjoyed on youtube/video, as easy background watching/listening. but figured I'd upload across all podcast channels, because maybe it's chill to just listen to, too. :) —let's be internet friends!follow me on instagram https://www.instagram.com/bibs.live/follow me on tiktok: @bibs.livesupport this podcast by becoming a patron: https://www.patreon.com/bibslive/membershipsign up for my monthly(ish) newsletter here: http://eepurl.com/hm866f* this description may include affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase on the site after clicking these links, I could earn a commission. thanks for supporting my work!—timestamps:00:00 — hand in hand with bibs & dan02:29 — how our days were07:28 — straight up bragging09:20 — watching the birds & waves12:13 — snack time asmr14:10 — admiring those who do water sports18:45 — monetizing sunsets20:10 — acknowledging the chewing22:00 — remaining rambles—bibs leitzmann, bibs.live, who are you and what are you doing here, podcast, sunset cliffs in ocean beach, san diego, california vlog, travel vlog, asmr, chewing asmr, satisfying eating sounds, internet best friend, couple goals, how to become the best version of yourself, real talk, glow up tips, wellness, lifestyle, fitness, health, female podcast, personal stories, advice, girl talk, earthy girl diaries, introvert diaries, routines, evening routine, night routine, life advice, healing

Back when I left the church, I lost a lot of my community, and all of the rituals we'd do together, along with it. I've been intentionally inviting magic back into my life lately. The other day, I asked God for a sign, and I got an answer...

'Where two or three are gathered...'

voice memo vibes. welcome to season 3. :) i hope this feels reminiscent of the old social media days and/or a cozy hang with a friend.

things I thought about after recording that I’d like you to know now:

  1. the audio quality will not always be this bad. i start using my external mic (and add video back into the mix!) in the next ep.
  2. re: me saying you’re in an MLM if your biz meets certain criteria. edit to that: you MIGHT be in an MLM.* i really shouldn't assume. AND if you are in an MLM and you know you are, and you're happy... much love and respect. you do you.
  3. re: my thoughts on parts of the coaching industry being MLM-y. i just want to reiterate: i <3 my coach-friends. your work is so valuable and I am not talking about you in this hot take of mine.
  4. asking on 01.01.24: are you a video/podcast editor looking for PT work? email me your portfolio at podcast@bibs.live. :)

nikki rae bose is the founder & leader of reunify yoga in ocean beach (san diego, california). I couldn’t think of a better conversation to close out the second season of this podcast with.

nikki left a career in molecular biology to pursue something that felt more in alignment with her/her values. through this, reunify was born. through reunify, nikki has created a community-based yoga studio based on selfless service.

this conversation was deeply inspiring to me. i hope it will be for you, too.

here’s a preview of what we get into —

00:00:00 : intro.

00:02:35 : warm up.

00:05:15 : who is nikki & what is she doing here?

00:09:00 : what is selfless service?

00:10:43 : how does reunify ground itself in selfless service & also survive financially?

00:14:44 : what nikki was like as a kid. (borrowing from the interview questions i used in my recruiting days…).

00:16:45 : how did reunify come to be?

00:19:20 : why selfless service?

00:21:00 : how nikki keeps reunify from becoming culty.

00:24:00 : did you know how special a place you were creating, when you started reunify?

00:26:50 : how can we build true community?

00:29:50 : do you ever run into your own ego?

00:31:39 : how do you deal with relational challenges when you have such a close-knit community?

00:36:40 : a tangent on cancel culture & boycotting.

00:39:58 : the challenges of being responsible for people’s livelihoods & being close to those people.

00:43:00 : what’s one thing you’re learning right now?

00:44:30 : grief & praise circles.

00:47:55 : an embarrassing story.

49:55 : how to support nikki & reunify.

alex blue — mother, artist, singer-songwriter, earth-angel/human — joins us for the second to last episode of season two today. and it is hands down, one of my favorite episodes to date.

I hope you love this conversation as much as I did. It was recorded a few months back (we took a break for the summer) & this is such a fun one to come back with.

Go follow Alex on socials so you can buy her record when it comes out!

Topics discussed —

  1. 00:00:00 — intro.
  2. 00:02:20 — a little zoom warm-up. our (public-facing, outside-of-therapy) highs & lows.
  3. 00:08:40 — we touch on deconstruction. how alex & torri met in a church cult in LA.
  4. 00:11:10 — who is alex & what is she doing here?
  5. 00:15:00 — first impressions. listen to me recall, in real-time, how I found alex in the beginning days of her career, when all I’d do was search for & watch youtube song covers.
  6. 00:17:40 — an accordion of time. reflecting on the ways alex has changed (out loud) & what that’s been like. we discuss our parallel journeys & what alex’s experience was like, as the public figure, versus mine, as the consumer.
  7. 00:22:25 — the impact that alex has had on me. I realize (again, in real-time) the ways I took alex’s vulnerability for granted, and the ways I benefited from her courage, as a free consumer.
  8. 00:25:50 — the beginning of alex’s career on youtube. how she’s moved from focusing on numbers to community.
  9. 00:30:50 — social media. long-form versus short-form content.
  10. 00:44:30 — alex’s kickstarter campaign. I start by sharing my naive impressions of it.
  11. 00:48:30 — alex shares what led up to the decision to start crowdfunding for her next record.
  12. 00:53:00 — we learn about what alex was going through throughout the kickstarter experience. we touch on fear, undiagnosed OCD, anxiety, marketing, algorithms & a story about a particularly challenging livestream.
  13. 01:04:05 — low lows to high highs. vulnerability meets vulnerability. reflections on lessons learned from the kickstarter campaign. a riff on capitalism (gotta have at least one per ep).
  14. 01:19:10 — how to support alex (see below).
  15. 01:20:35 — outro.

CW: RELIGIOUS TRAUMA & DISORDERED EATING.

Today’s podcast episode is a big one y’all (in the best way). emily wilson (@erose.shop) & I open up about our experiences working at a mega church after college + the journeys that followed.

I feel equal parts protective & proud of this conversation. I’ve never been quite this open about my past (although it’s been a long time coming). And emily’s story is so profound & moving & she shares it with us in such a raw, vulnerable & empathetic way…

I really, really hope you’ll listen. words can’t really sum it up, ya know?

emily, thank you for saying yes to having this conversation. and thank you for encouraging me to say yes to it, myself.

for anyone that has left (or is thinking about leaving) a religion / institution / career / degree / life path / etc… tune into this one. you're not alone.

P.S. full disclaimer can be heard at the start of the episode, but tldl: no hate towards my christian loves out there.

Topics discussed —

00:00 — welcome. some trigger warnings + disclaimers.

02:03 — Emily didn’t get triggered at her GI appt today! The challenges of finding good medical care, especially when it comes to chronic stuff.

06:15 — CW: disordered eating. Our first impressions of each other & how pea flour was involved.

08:08 — CW: religious trauma. Emily shares about her experience of being pregnant while working at a church. Bibs reflects on her regrets during that time. We open up about our deconstruction journeys, grief, and what we miss about that time in our lives.

25:50 — Who is Emily & what is she doing here?

27:45 —Emily’s life & parenting philosophy. Getting to the root cause of things. Teaching emotional literacy. Learning to not dissociate.

31:10 — Lessons learned in motherhood. Not being all things to all ppl (or even one person). How the nuclear family is harmful (to kids and their parents). Learning to accept help & let go of control.

36:45 — Our post-church relationship; finding healing in unconventional places. Our parallel journeys; getting closer after leaving the church.

43:39 — finding contentment. what’s bringing emily joy & connection today. reflecting on how she never thought she’d be here. the lie of capitalism. shifting timelines. mental health. and learning what happiness is.

49:45 — emily’s an artist. she tells us what it’s like. giving herself permission to create. scaling & growing her business and etsy shop. her desire to wear fingerless gloves in a cottage by the ocean.

57:19 — How to support emily (see below).

EMILY’S AN ARTIST!

And she has an incredible etsy shop, full of beautiful watercolor prints, embroidery, stickers & more.

Emily has so generously offered our listeners a 15% discount (!!)

Use it here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/eRoseShopCo?coupon=BIBS15

Discount code: BIBS15

each of her pieces hold such deep meaning; on top of being gorgeous & so calming to look at. do yourself a favor & support small businesses / support artists & buy some of her work, will ya?

final thoughts: let us know if you enjoyed this episode. it’s vulnerable to open up about stuff like this; so encouragement & ~kind~ words are welcome, in the comments / DMs. 😌

our march episode is here (my birthday month!). welcome, or welcome back, to who are you and what are you doing here: a podcast about - well - who we are and what we're doing here. thanks for tuning in!

sean inderbitzen (therapist, author, professor) sits down with us today, and we go on a JOURNEY together. I hope you'll join us.

some topics we cover —

  1. 00:00 — sean's legacy — doing things you don’t want to do, to get to where you want to go.
  2. 14:45 — dreams — strategic moves, dumb luck + a willingness to fail.
  3. 20:57 — failing & succeeding nonchalantly — sean opens up about challenges in his career and personal life, and the importance of believing in yourself, even if no one else does.
  4. 30:25 — the difference between professional + personal relationships — how fighting for what you want should look different in both.
  5. 33:55 — dead air — a riff on silence + the power of not rescuing people from it.
  6. 36:30 — a lesson being learned — 'it’s not my fault.' we talk situationships, dating, attachment styles, and finding safety in predictability, even when that feels uncomfortable.
  7. 45:00 — a new segment (an embarrassing story) — buckle up for the story of sean's worst date ever.
  8. 49:20 — one thing sean wants — UP (the movie).
  9. 57:10 — how to work with sean — buy his book (coming soon!) + mayo study (info below).

where to find sean — seaninderbitzen.com

sean's book — coming soon! late 2023, early 2024. keep an eye out for it on his website, on amazon, or at barnes & noble.

sean's mayo grant — sean is leading a grant to help medical & mental health professionals in rural mayo clinics work with people with autism. be on the lookout for a publication on that towards the end of 2023.

the study — sean is leading a study on clinicians doing sensory motor psychotherapy on kids with autism and trauma. if you know any children (ages 8-17), with autism and trauma, consider reaching out to sean, as they may be a good fit for this study.

happy february, everyone & welcome back to way(dh)! we’re so glad you’re here.

today we have emily frank (ig: @emileyefrank) on the pod. one of my oldest and dearest friends, and also the reason I am a yoga teacher today (you'll have to listen to the episode to hear the full story of how that happened).

here’s a glimpse into our conversation —

  1. how emily and I know each other. first impressions.
  2. 00:06:05 — who is emily & what is she doing here (✌️😘). she asks me those same questions, too! we talk about the process of becoming, and what it looks like to iterate and evolve (plus go down a brief rabbit hole about covid & not thinking before I speak).
  3. 00:17:50 — what made emily decide to go to university in England. we cover working smarter not harder & her curiosity about life outside the american dream.
  4. 00:31:40 — self-confidence & learning through experience. inspired by anthony bourdain, emerson and thoreau.
  5. 00:36:40 — emily’s relationship with yoga & what prompted flying to india to become a teacher. how the physical became emotional and spiritual.
  6. 00:41:53 — reconciling, integrating, and honoring yoga in the east and the west. remembering things you were never taught but always knew. a note on religions in their purest form. (yoga teachers, I think you’ll especially appreciate this part).
  7. 00:57:57 - what’s bringing emily joy & well-being. we talk about living a good life, relaxing into herself, a 4-day work week and more.
  8. 01:06:35 - what emily’s learning right now. setting energetic boundaries as a recovering people pleaser.
  9. 01:12:15 - what emily’s working on and how to find her. instagram handle is @emileyefrank. direct link is below!

where to find emily — https://www.instagram.com/emileyefrank/

emily is working on her doula certification in atlanta, ga. if you or someone you know is expecting in that area, give her a shout!

huge thank you to emily for coming on the show and giving us a glimpse into who she is and what she's doing here. 🤍 I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation, and I hope you do, too.

happy new year & welcome to season 2, episode 1 of way(dh)! how have you been? we’ve missed you.

al melchior is kicking off the new year with us today. al is a writer for bandcamp daily, host of you me & an album (podcast), and can be found on ig @youmealbum.

i’ve been meeting with al every other week for the past 2+ years, and today’s episode gives you a glimpse into the kinds of things we usually talk about.

here are a few of the things we touch on in our conversation —

  1. how are we — a chill intro about new england weather.
  2. how we met — thank you rob bell.

welcome to episode 05 of way(dh)! on today’s episode we have one of my oldest friends of all time, sarah kawalek (@letsstretchwithsarah). sarah is a performer, an actor, a singer, a dancer, a founder (of stretchwithsarah.com!).

sarah and i grew up with each other and she’s one of the few people i know who knew what she was passionate about at a young age, and followed her dreams from then until now. we talk a lot about what it’s been like to know what you want to do, and learn to do it in a way that works for you, especially as an adult. i’m so grateful sarah was willing to share so authentically with us — i hope you enjoy every minute of our convo!

as always, here are a few of the things we talk about in our conversation —

  1. how our days were — sarah talks about getting present & i talk about my DIY cut-an-old-dress-to-make-it-a-shirt fail.

  2. who is sarah, and what is she doing here?

  3. first impressions — for me, there was no first impression. I truly can’t recall not knowing her. for sarah? well, turns out she really dug my glasses.

  4. performing as a child — what it was like to find her passion at a young age.

  5. how sarah knew she was meant to perform — she even shares how she used to naturally sing herself to sleep as a kid. you’ll have to listen to the episode to learn which iconic song she’d sing.

  6. pulling back the veil on what it’s like to pursue a performance career as an adult — we focus on what it’s like to be in the auditioning world, and how you must be okay with rejection to make it.

  7. what performing looks like for sarah today - we talk about sarah’s acting, modeling, and musical theatre performances in New York City.

  8. the shift sarah’s making in her passion-pursuit — as sarah puts it, here we get a glimpse into a ‘personal journal entry’ of hers. we talk about how the pandemic helped her establish a routine and how she’s learning what she is and isn't willing to give up as she navigates the present day.

  9. Stretch with Sarah — how she used what covid threw her way to build something great (listen to the full episode & see below for more info on SWS!)

  10. normalizing the challenges of starting a business — I ask sarah if she’s ever had a class that no one has shown up to, and how she navigates through any feelings that come up when that happens.

  11. social media — how we saw it go from non-existent to recreational to marketplace… and how self-promotion today makes us cringe.

  12. JOY — sarah shares that she is prioritizing what makes her happy in life, and shares what those things are for her. she shares a beautiful story about being present at a concert.

welcome to episode 04 of way(dh)! on today’s episode we have the one and only t.r.h. blue (@notesontheway). torri is an artist, poet, writer, photographer & advocate.

I was first introduced to torri years ago through brene brown and I’m so honored she came on the pod to share so honestly and openly with us.

here are just a few things we touch on in our conversation. I truly hope you love it as much as I do —

  1. way(dh) — who is torri, and what is she doing here?
  2. peace — where the desire for calm comes from for torri.
  3. social media burnout — torri’s journey of leaving social media and what prompted her to do it (in spite of her business being on there).
  4. journey into poetry — how she went from burnt out in a culty environment to a poet.
  5. entrepreneurship — how brene brown helped torri get 16K followers overnight.
  6. reflections on love — what torri’s partnership brings her today.
  7. both and — how to cope with life when it is full of both trauma and delight.
  8. an introduction to leafcutter bees.
  9. reflections on motherhood — and learning how to give your child what you realize you needed as a child.
  10. an introduction to torri’s grandmother — her lighthearted way of handling mistakes; how she loved the ppl around her; and how torri is learning to be unselfconsciously delighted through inspiration from both her and Alex.

welcome to episode 03 of way(dh)! I’m so excited to introduce you to an incredible person and one of my dearest friends, sarah.

i hope you’ll join us in our conversation. here are just a few of the things we discuss:

  1. getting acquainted — guessing how the other is feeling today & reminiscing on our decade-long friendship. we even confronted how sarah wouldn’t stop hurting me during our first time hanging out.
  2. adult friendships & chosen family — reflecting on how making friendships as an adult can be hard.
  3. way(dh) — who is sarah & what is she doing here?
  4. childhood — how sarah wanted to be a zookeeper as kid.
  5. figuring out post-college life — accepting her first job & learning that adults in the workplace can sometimes be surprisingly childish.
  6. burnout, quitting & selling all her things — encountering burnout, then jetting across the world (literally).
  7. ‘I do’ versus ‘I am’ — alternative ways to viewing career that sarah learned on the road.
  8. noise, but in nature — what brings sarah joy today.
  9. sarah’s driftwood phase — reflections on feeling lost.

when I asked today’s guest how we can support her she said, ‘the best way people can support me is by supporting the people around them.’ with that, I encourage you to support the people around you this week (including yourself). see you back here in a couple of weeks.

Welcome to 'who are you and what are you doing here' -- a podcast (surprisingly) all about who we are and what we're doing here, both as individuals and collectively.

This episode was more or less a sound check, but give it a listen for a little sneak peek into what we'll be talking about in this space. First episode drops in a week or so, which will share more about the intention behind this community.

If you'd like to be a part of this journey (and I do hope you'll join us!), subscribe and follow wherever you get your podcasts. Also, we know it's early, but if you like what you see (or hear) -- or think you will at least -- like and review the podcast wherever you're listening to this!

Thank you for being here. :)
