Stillness and waiting before diving in is not what many of us do very well. This episode was inspired by Joshua 3 and the understanding I was blessed with to see the important role waiting can have on our lives and others' lives.

When I was given the initial vision of the dam that is holding us in the muck and mire which started this whole water analogy, I never pictured this waiting at the edge of the water so to be honest, I don't know exactly how this fits into the timeline of events because we went from a mud puddle to flowing waters and navigating this to standing on the river bank, but when I came across Joshua 3 (and a lot more in Joshua) it stood out as being very significant in this adventure so bare with me. We can dip back into that water shortly.

Joshua 3:8-10, 13, 17

When they gave time to work, they were now on dry firm ground and it didn't just affect them, it affected others and kept them safe. Are you picking up yet when I am putting down? Really, what God laid before me, I am just laying in your path. The impact of this one act of stillness and obedience has far greater reach than imaginable.

Joshua 5:1, 8

He doesn't always work how we expect but he is always working and this was BETTER than they could imagine.

I was given the perfect example the other day of how I (any many others) tend to communicate and rely on God. I went to a different post office that was sort of out of the normal line of travel but still on the way home. I left and was headed home and I turned on my GPS because I wasn't 100% sure the best way to get home since it was mildly unfamiliar. I realize where I am at and went against the GPS. I felt I didn't need to rely on it anymore so I head home the way that was more familiar to me. It kept wanting me to turn around and I thought how ridiculous so I turned it off. Imagine my surprise when I came to the "road closed" sign. I was really frustrated and I have to turn where I am, even less familiar of roads and now the time to get home has almost doubled. Right when all of this happened, I was listening to the most recent Life church sermon and he was saying how Ruth didn't plan for all these things to happen but now God was using it regardless. I thought to myself, "well, I didn't plan for a road closed sign". Then, all of these thoughts started flooding in. Sometimes we rely on God when we feel uncertain (just like the GPS or what some people call the God positioning system) and then when we feel like we have it, we turn it off. We stop listening or seeking and we rely on ourselves. Sometimes, we pass by what was intended for us but sometimes, like in this case, we still end up in the same place but our way took far longer than it needed too. It also took me going back to the GPS (how we often need to back to relying on God after we got ourselves into trouble) to get myself out of the jam. Then there is the thought, but what if I had just waited? What if I had just relied fully on God (GPS) from the start? How much better would the path have been or in some cases, how much better might the destination end up?

Let's reframe waiting and being still and realize we are still acting but in more of a biblical way.

  1. Healing
  2. Relying on God
  3. Trusting
  4. Growing
  5. Conditioning
  6. Seeking
  7. Listening
  8. Obeying

Today I ended a plan called "Crazy Faith" by Michael Todd and he said, "Don't waste your wait. The waiting is where God makes you into who you need to be when he gets you there.

These are bigger than currents and small obstacles and often they sneak up on you. Storms can make tiny things very difficult and you can't prepare enough for them on your own. They will come ready or not. Have you ever been on the water in a boat and had one of those popup storms? No warning and the water and sky turn dark. Then, you are in trouble. These will be some of your most life-changing moments. This is the moment that will determine what is beneath the rough surface when all of that is ground away. Sometimes you feel like they steer you way off course but often they put you right where you were meant to be.

This episode almost didn't happen because the recording was lost and it had to be redone but this may be the most significant story I can share with you. This is the story of our road through Katrina and our renewal that strengthened my faith like nothing else.

Isaiah 49:19-20

Isaiah 54:2-3

Lessons-

  • God can restore better than we can imagine
  • No matter how bad it seems someone’s is always worse but we aren’t to dwell on that, we are to love and endure it together.
  • Our perspective has everything to do with our reaction.
  • When we look to God and the bible for answers, we can find better wisdom than anywhere.
  • If we focus on the bad, all we will see is the bad, but if we focus on his desire for goodness for us, we will find that goodness.
  • We grow most when we start Changing thoughts from Why me to What is God trying to teach me or someone else?

John 6:16-21

Deuteronomy 31:5-6, 20-21

I was reminded that the sad and difficult truth is often, when things are good, that's when we are easily distracted, less reliant on him, and tend to drift away more than ever. While we want the good times to keep coming, this is so often the time we spend less time praying, less time in the word, and less time communing with God. It was when they ate their fill and were thriving, they turned straight to other gods. For us maybe other priorities, other people, or material things. Then, when they strayed from the one true God, trouble came, as it often does. It is usually a result of our own choices and decisions but we turn to God and want help. The good is that we turn to God but the bad is that we had to turn at all. This isn't to guilt you or to bribe you to stay focused on God just to keep bad things from happening. It is just to serve as a reminder that it happens often and rather than asking "Why is this happening to me", asking "What can I learn from this?" or "How can I grow in this?" What happened has already happened and you don't have to go back upstream and start over, just look to God, especially in the storm, and let him redirect you. Then, the biggest key here is to TRUST that He has plans for your future that will be better than your plans. Jeremiah 29:11

As you begin to move from the stagnant water to living water, breaking the dams that kept that water stagnant and letting go of the things that held you in place, some of you will start to move but many of you will be fighting against the current. My husband is an avid kayaker, his father was on his way to the Olympics when his best friend and kayaking buddy died in a log jam while kayaking. They named my husband after that friend. Of course paddling has been a rather big part of my life since being with him and my kids entire life. Paddling in still water it is about moving from place to place but paddling in moving water is more about shifting with the flow. Ever tried to paddle up stream? Good luck! Depending on how good the current is, it can be extremely difficult to pretty much impossible. It also exhausts you very, very quickly. Further more, good kayakers (not me) learn to roll a kayaker because they know they are highly likely to flip it in rough water and rather than fight that as well, they learn to pop themselves right back upright without moving out of the kayak at all. I am not going to lie, the process of learning that is terrifying to me and I did not jump in on that other than helping my husband teach my son to do it. You spend a bit of time upside down in the water not strapped into a kayak but secured with a "skirt" and I just can't overcome that right now but I have no plans to go in the rapids either. My point with all of this is that kayaking is an excellent analogy for how we are to navigate life as we are out of the stagnant water.

  1. Don't fight the flow.

  2. Don't stop or turn around at obstacles.

  3. Don't rely on the wrong strength. I was looking for something to support this and found an article on threesisterskayakrental.com that expressed it better than I could on my own.

  4. Start with humility: “God, I can do nothing apart from you. I need your help.”

  5. Act out of trust: “God, I trust in Your strength and ability. I acknowledge that my efforts are only able to succeed if You are fighting for me.”
  6. Give God the credit: “God, I am thankful for Your faithfulness to me. Any recognition or praise I receive belongs to You.”

  7. Is there an area of your life that you take wrongful pride in?

  8. How would your life change if you fully relied on God’s strength and greatness instead of your own?
  9. What is one thing you need to start doing or stop doing to trust in God instead of your own strength in that area?

Reflect:Philippians 4:6-7

Try a prayer like this:God, I have been fighting this battle and I am tired of trying to do it all on my own. I am tired of trying to control the outcome and I don't have enough strength to keep going without you. I know you have done great things for me in my life and I thank you so much for all you have already seen me through, protected me from and comforted me through. I am sorry I try my way first instead of bringing it to you, but I am bringing it now. I am asking for your help. I am asking for strength. I am asking for peace. I am asking that your will be done. Direct my steps; correct me if I am going the wrong way. I trust that your ways are higher and better than I can even imagine and I want your will in my life. Thank you Jesus, Amen.

Pray daily. Tell him your worries and concerns daily. Humble yourself daily. Thank Daily.

Some of you are clinging on so hard to something to stay in stagnant water, it doesn’t matter what changes around you, you won’t let go and let things really change. I keep picturing the water starting to rush by and yet someone is grabbing onto a tree branch or tree trunk and holding on for dear life. I understand that you don't know where you are about to go but the safety of the cesspool of stagnant water is a flat-out lie. It isn't as safe as it looks. You may fear it can't get better or that it could get worse, but that is a lie from the enemy to keep you stuck. Just let go.

1) Deal with your doubt

Know your worth- Psalm 139:13-14, Zephaniah 3:17

Know where you belong- Galatians 2:20, Psalm 100:3, Matthew 18:10-14

Psalm 86:10-12,Psalm 46:10

Don't doubt that he can care for your needs- Psalm 23:1, John 10:11

If you are doubting your ability to do hard things, remind yourself you aren't alone and God is with you. - Psalm 46:1, Philippians 4:13

2) Stop trusting in the wrong things

One thing that happens when we have a clear direction guided by the Holy Spirit and the confidence that it’s God's will is we don’t quit before we reach the peak of the mountain. Ever been a little lost hiking and can’t decide if you are super close or so far off track that you would be better off turning around. It’s a really tough spot to be in and it’s where we land all the time when we are trusting in our old will's guidance and leaning on God.

The holy spirit does guide us and it is hard to really explain how it works but if you haven't tried before, I would proceed this way:

Prayer - reflect on all the times he has taken care of you, and thank him for all he has already done. Then, lay your problem, decision, or whatever at his feet and pray for his will and your peace in whatever that is. Maybe also pray for clear guidance and patience. Rest in stillness and quiet for a bit.

Read the bible and maybe even try without looking things up, just where ever you happen to be regularly reading or if you are not regularly reading just sort of open the bible and start reading where ever it opens. If that still doesn't work, you can try to look up topics but I am always cautious there because I don't want to insert my will in his word.

Keep listening to pastors you trust, audio books by authors you trust (or read) and other Christian mentors.

3) Stop caring too much about other people's opinions - Proverbs 29:25, Galatians 1:10

4) Holding onto past hurts

5) Holding onto feelings - 2 Corinthians 10:5, Ephesians 4:26-47

Practice saying, my reactions are in my control. My feelings don't have to be dictated by outcomes. I am a child of God.

Other things that can help you finally let go and get out of that stagnant water.

  1. Change your conversations or thoughts from what if all these negative things happen to positive what ifs. Not what if I fail, remember you can't fail if you don't quit anyhow but what if I succeed, what does that look and feel like. Focusing on this can help each finger that is tightly gripped onto whatever is holding you back, finally release.
  2. Gratitude can be one of the most healing and beneficial things you will ever do for yourself. Most importantly, thank God every day in prayer before you come with anything else.
  3. Change all the routines. I looked for areas of routine and started changing all of them for right now. I prepped dinner in the morning, I did other activities in the evenings that were my norm, etc. I just keep mixing it up and what I am finding is that no matter how silly or obsolete it seems, it shakes loose the roots, it leaps you out of the rut, and just changes everything even your mindset.

We often get so comfortable being uncomfortable that we stay in the safety of discomfort even if we are miserable due to the safety of what we know. I know we have talked about fear plenty but so much of this stems from fear: fear of failure, fear of unknown, fear of changes, fear of "difficult"...

Often we find ourselves sitting stagnant. Nothing is moving or changing and we feel the impact of that. Our minds and feelings become a cesspool of muck and mire that we want to desperately get out of but we are just stuck. We have become comfortable with the misery just because it is at least a misery we know and we would rather face that than what we don't know.

Just like that stagnant water, there is a dam or blockage often in our minds or life that keeps us stuck. Sometimes there are more than one. Today, we are going to break the dam and we are going to seek the living water. We are going to start with three steps.

Seeking - Seeking needs to start with prayer. Ask God to show you what is holding you back and to work with you to defeat it for good. Then, just start opening the bible and let God work.

The Bible promises Matthew 7:7-11.

Fear

This is not facing it alone, this is praying on it, memorizing scripture, or having scripture in hand andthen walking with Jesus right beside you into that Lion's Den.

2 Timothy 1:7

ForgivenessIt can be forgiving yourself, it can be forgiving others but the power that forgiveness has is tremendous. Also, don't underestimate the power the lack of forgiveness has to keep you in place. Forgiveness isn't always reconciliation and it doesn't dismiss actions someone does. It is a process of letting go and sometimes it has to be continually let go, but again, this isn't a path you have to walk alone, you go to battle with Jesus and the only offensive weapon in the armor of God, the word.

Ephesians 4:31-32 & Hebrews 12:11

Step 2 Trusting -

Some of you have been stagnant for so long that it's more of a boulder that you have to removed but if God gave Moses the power to strike a rock and have the water flow from it to relieve the thirst of all the Jewish people, he has the power for you to flow freely again too.

Exodus 36

When they started gathering materials to build exactly to his instructions, they are stirred to give and they realize they have more than enough to do the work and they are lacking nothing.

John 4 God had a bigger plan for that well and he needed it to be just in the right place. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says everything has a season and a purpose. Proverb 19:21 Many plans in a person's heart but Lord's purpose prevails. Sometimes when you are being forced to move physically, mentally, spiritually, etc. when you do not want to, it's because God needs you in a different place to fit the plans he has for you. Jeremiah 29:11 didn't just apply to Jeremiah. They are plans to prosper, not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Psalm 33:11, Romans 8:28, Ephesians 2:10

Step 3 Giving

Sometimes the quickest way to get over your own blocks are to focus a little on someone else. Get off the selfish treadmill and look for those that need love or something else. Keep reading the bible and praying over the rest, but take time to focus elsewhere. This doesn't mean giving up so much of yourself that your cup isn't filled. You can't pour from an empty cup, but if you are only focused on yourself, you will likely miss at least some of your purpose.

Here is the thing about God's plans, it is never without him but it rarely is all by yourself.Ephesians 4:11-16 talks about how each person is like a part of the body (Christ is the head) when we are working for the Kingdom.

1 Peter 4:10-11

John 6:1-14

God comes with abundance and he always comes with that living water. We can be like the Sea of Galilee which is far better than the dead sea.

What is your filter?

Are you set on success and being a certain image?

Are you seeking approval from other people?

Are you bitter and angry at the world?

Are you hiding from problems trying to protect yourself?

Are you certain only bad things happen to you?

What if suddenly your filter is Yirah?

If you truly look to our creator, what changes?

It honestly can look rather radical.

  • An attitude of Gratitude for everything
  • Realize ownership is a lie and stewardship is necessary
  • Love people
  • Material items are no longer a goal
  • You are seeking him more than anything
  • Your selfish behavior falls away
  • Addictions are broken
  • Relationships are healed
  • You serve earnestly
  • You give generously
  • You live righteously
  • You seek wisdom
  • You look to him when its time to make decisions
  • You rely on him

So many would think this means you now live under a heavy burden of rules but that is a LIE from the enemy. This is where you dwell in true freedom and purpose.

Don't try to do it on your own. Luke 9:37-45 and Mark 9:14-29 Demon-possessed boy and forgetting to pray.

Without Yirah, we cannot be in God's presence.

Without Yirah, we cannot gain Godly wisdom.

Without Yirah, we don't make changes that align with whom He intends us to be

With Yirah, we have hope.

With Yirah, our priorities completely change.

With Yirah, we are humble and our comfort, needs, etc are so much less important

Woodrow Kroll said, Fear God and you will have nothing else to fear.

This changes EVERYTHING.

There is so much in life that can crowd us and make us lose sight of what is important but we can reclaim the victory that he intended for us. I am so excited to share with you what he gave me for you.

Mark 4:3-20

Roots

  • vascular system (like your nervous system) spreads and travels from the bottom and connects to the rest of the plant
  • provides anchorage for the plant
  • takes in the nutrients and water that allow the plant to grow
  • store nutrients

Parallel this

Roots

  • Vascular - The spiritual ties to prayer, scripture, fellowship and more have to run throughout, interconnected to all the parts. The roots have to have vessels to reach the rest of the plant.
  • Anchorage - the stronger it is, the stronger we are. There are some very large trees that have roots that are more like a ball and in a hurricane, we know those are the ones that will go first. The trees that I have seen stand 200 years of some of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded were the live oak. Did you know that the deep lateral roots can grow up to 90 feet from the trunk of a large tree? Did you know that the horizontal roots can run up to 7 times the width of the tree top? If you want to really grow, you want to go places and not fall down in every storm life throws at you. You have to have to be really rooted in the wisdom of God. Your roots need to be deep and wide, like the old bible school song.
  • Nutrients + storage - our spiritual roots are what feed us, and encourage us all the time. It should be a constant flow but there should also be storage to call upon when times get rough.

Thorns

  • Sometimes we have God plus the other things
  • Then the other things are allowed to creep in and are getting too much attention and nourishment, it starts stealing and taking away from God until the spiritual side is choked out.
  • Asparagus is one plant that if you can keep the weeds down for long enough for it to grow up and nourish it well, it will grow big enough to choke out the weeds. The weeds aren't the focus, the weeds don't get the attention, just God.

Remember the 2 greatest commandments are LOVE GOD with ALL of your heart, ALL of your soul, and ALL of your mind, and LOVE OTHERS as yourself. Matthew 22:36-40

Psalm 136:23-26His faithful love endures forever. He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever. He saved us from our enemies. His faithful love endures forever. Nothing feeds my soul more than this.

Examine Jesus and 40 days. How did he fight back? With scripture and knowing how what the enemy was using was being twisted- he knew the context. Matthew 4:1-11

Psalm 23 - table in the presence of our enemies (Don't get the enemy a seat at your table - Louie Giglio)

Recognize the enemy.

Put thoughts, behaviors, etc to the test:

If God is love, test it against 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 - patient, kind, not broad, not boasting, not envy, not dishonoring, not self-seeking, not easily angered...

Philippians 4:8 - is your thought honorable, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent?

Distractions:

Food is often used as a temptation - Adam and Eve Genesis 3:1-24, Jacob and Esau Genesis 25:29-35, Jesus in the Wilderness - it isn't too small to use for the enemy, it isn't too small to glorify God.

Nothing fills as Christ fills - the vase; Jesus is the living water John 7:37-39 and John 4:10

So when you write your story and change the person you identify with, I hope you can take these visuals and become the person that God created. He formed you with a purpose and we are all intended to produce fruit but it doesn't always mean our fruit looks the same.

  1. Not good for Man to be alone” Genesis 2:18

    • God said there were many things good but this was the first that was “not good”.
    • He also goes on to say “I will make a helper suitable for him”
    • Hebrews suitable helper = Ezer Kenegdo * ezerkenegdo.org
    • Ezer - Ezer has originally two meanings in Hebrew, depending on the pronunciation: to rescue/to save and to be strong. Ezer used for the woman, used for nations to whom Israel appealed for military aid, and used for God as Israel’s helper. Ezer is used consistently in military context. The Ezer is a warrior. You are a warrior.
    • Kenegdo means opposite as to him or corresponding as to him. A woman is no better or less than the man. Man and woman are equally and uniquely created, a perfect fit.
    • Just as a jigsaw puzzle is incomplete if half the pieces are missing, so a man is incomplete without his wife. God designed it so that the man needs the woman and the woman needs the man (see 1 Cor. 11:11).
  2. We need God in the mix and in the lead.

  3. Marriage has been described as a triangle with God at the top: the closer each partner moves to God, the closer they move toward each other. (3 ply cord Eph 4:12) The further each moves from God, the further they move from each other. As soon as Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they experienced alienation from each other and Adam began blaming Eve for his problems (Gen 3:7, 12). Broken marriages always involve at least one partner moving away from God *lost the reference for it

  4. Mutual submission

  5. Ephesians 5:21-33 Submission begins with the gospel. 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

  6. explains that women are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ, and the husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. Marriage is first and foremost an example of the gospel.
  7. Mutual is not simultaneous.

  8. Covenant not contract

  9. What God joined together, let man not separate Matthew 19:3-6 This also is referencing Genesis 2:24.

  10. Jesus says: Moses granted divorce to satisfy the hardness of the hearts but that was not Gods original design
  11. Malachi 2:14-16 also references the covenant
  12. Genesis 15 - Abraham covenant

Blueberry story Why do we keep showing up for battle single-handedly? Genesis 2:18 The first thing Jesus did when we started his ministry is to go and find his people. He gathered his disciples, his team, his community. He met with others, but he had his core. Matthew 4:18-22 Hebrews 10:24-25 James 5:16 MSG From Daniel plan Oxford research showed increased happy hormones and decreased pain reported when working out together. Harvard physician discovered that relationships, love, intimacy etc had more impact on our health than anything! Koinonia - we usually translate as fellowship, but it was bigger than that. It was love, intimacy, and joyful participation in deep communion with one another- putting others’ needs before your own. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 read Story of the man lowered in - saw THEIR faith. Luke 5:17-39 The Faith Train – we pour into each other. Sometimes we are in the engine and sometimes the caboose. The harder I tried to be independent, the more I was put in places I couldn’t do anything but rely on others. Why we struggle: 1. Mistrust of others 2. We don’t want to feel vulnerable or exposed Romans 12:9-19 Notes Verse 9 - stay away from the gossip, cling to the good, focus on the good, be sincere and honest. Verse 10- devoted to each other in love is huge and you can also read devoted to loving others. Honor others before yourself - don’t build yourself up or worry about your appearance to others but build up others, focus on loving others (and “others” are not perfect) Verse 11 - don’t lack the zeal, you must stay pumped up. You must keep that cup filled with the Holy Spirit, church time, bible time, prayer time, etc. Serving the Lord. Sometimes you are going to breathe in the love of the Lord and breathe out the Lord like a pipeline. It can help you to put up with things. Verse 12 - This is almost like a math equation for having a community- being positive and joyful and hopeful plus patient in the rough times plus faithful prayer Verse 13 - practice generosity and hospitality without thought of reward, kudos, etc. Verse 14 - Bless those that aren’t so nice or worse and don’t curse them Verse 15 - rejoice when it’s time to rejoice and mourn when it's time to mourn together Verse 16 - Focus on harmony blending of different voices, let go of the pride which is honestly the most often “hurt” issues or causes, don’t worry about status or positions of others (or yourself). Lots of humility and setting aside your feelings Verse 17 - don’t participate in vengeance or just repay one bad deed with another plus do what is right basically all the time for everyone Verse 18 - live at peace with everyone sometimes that means more space but sometimes it means putting aside pride, etc. Verse 19 - Let God fight your battles The big thing also when it comes to hurts is why are you hurt? When building relationships Pray Observe/listen Offer Show up Givers and takers - shouldn’t be always one or the other Abram and lot example Genesis 13 The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Lifebook by Daniel Amen, Mark Hyman, and Rick WarrenFind Your People: Building Deep Community in a Lonely World by Jennie Allen--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/habitsandhope/support

What does the bible say about health?

1 Corinthians 6:18-20, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Psalm 31:17, Ephesians 5:18, 3 John 1:2, Hebrews 12:11-13, Matthew 4:4, Proverbs 25:27, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Do your writing your story and write about your personal health ideal.

Example:

Ideal story

  • Eats a diet that is nutritionally enriched to give energy, vitality, mental clarity, and empowers for every good work.
  • Stays hydrated with water
  • Avoids foods, chemicals, or substances that would cause health issues or prevent me from feeling my best.
  • Has muscle tone that will allow me to do the things I want or need to do.
  • Able to outrun at least a couple of zombies in a zombie apocalypse (just in case). *thought I would through entertaining one in to show it doesn’t have to be serious
  • Good mobility in joints, spine, etc. even when older
  • Do not get sick very often at all.
  • Able to keep up with people of all ages
  • Health does not hold me back on anything

Things that serve this story

  • I get 8 hours of sleep a night
  • I eat 50% vegetables at every meal
  • I prep my water every morning and track my water every evening.
  • I read nutrition by labels - the goal is 5 ingredients or less and watch the sugar!
  • I shop more in the outer aisles of the grocery store than in the inner
  • I cook 90% or more of my food myself
  • I always have a workout plan and prepare the day before to do it.
  • I stretch daily
  • I will set a reminder to move once every hour during work hours *just learned how huge the health benefits are for moving a couple of minutes each hour
  • I will meal plan so I have great options all the time, even when away from home
  • I will plan extracurricular activities that keep me active
  • I will go on regular walks
  • I will incorporate weightlifting regularly
  • Bike rides with husband

Things that do not serve this story

  • Staying up too late especially just sitting and watching TV
  • Working without breaks at my desk
  • Eating out especially fast food
  • Eating sugar
  • Regular wine, etc.
  • Procrastinating working out
  • Overfilling my schedule
  • Mindless snacking

Celebrate wins daily.

Prepare for willpower or decisions before you need to make them and before you are worn out.

Think about day the evening before.

Workout: Bedtime needed, when are you going to workout, how will you preserve or boost energy, where will you workout, what is your workout going to be, pack your gym bag, remove obstacles.

Food: How are you going to get your meals and make sure you aren't starving when you start to eat, have a list of food you CAN eat, plan snacks rather than planning on not snacking, prepping it ahead, emergency bag, insulin drop prep, use your crockpot.

Stress: How can you protect your peace, needed boundaries, make more margin by eliminating things, what can you do at night to set you up better for tomorrow, how can you recharge?

Spiritual: What are you placing before God, How can you arrange your day better, How can you get more time in with God, Memorize scripture throughout the day and how, Have a group of Christian like-minded people in your life and spend time with them.

Verse for the week (memorizing) Psalm 127:1

Song lyrics to What a Friend We Have In Jesus by Paul Baloche

*Key is O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Research shows only 9 or 16% follow through with their resolutions according to the economic times. Resolutions already are set up to fail since they have negative connotations and they dwell in lack, deprivation, and removal of behaviors of things. Resolutions don't work because they are often said not written down, they don't have all the components: the why, the how, and so forth. There is no planning generally. They are often all or nothing and they are unreasonable. There is no follow-up, tracking, or review.Resolutions are also often fighting against things you identify with - being overweight, spending lots of money, etc.New Year, New You is based on forgetting all you are -good and bad, life lessons, etc and as if something is broken. Don’t we all love a good underdog story? A good comeback story? Your past is a part of that story. Resolutions don't work because they are often said not written down, they don't have all the components: the why, the how, and so forth. Writing it down is scary but it is a more concrete plan. What is your story? What do you want your story to look like?Where all this originated was one song and one sentence at the Christmas show at church where they mentioned, “writing your story”. I felt like an arrow hit my heart and I was sure this was what we were supposed to be doing! I didn’t even understand what it exactly meant or what it would look like. I just understood that this was significant. I couldn’t even research because I didn’t understand it enough to know where to start. Little by little the ideas started to form and in true Godly fashion, information kept crossing my path. I kept working on this and every time I was planning to record, something would happen and I would have to wait. Every time I waited, a new piece entered the scene. Think of what you first think of when you hear the word goal. There is a good chance you may relate it to a sport of some type. It could be soccer, basketball, football whatever but this is often a sports term. This often refers to someone sending an object through a small area, in just a moment of time, and then that moment is done. One thing this doesn’t focus on is the time that this person potentially dedicated to their sport, other than the one with the lucky shot which is unlikely to repeat and certainly isn’t going to help you achieve anything in life. It doesn’t tell the story of how this player practiced when others were playing. It doesn’t say how this player woke up early, trained hard, ate to fuel, and sacrificed endlessly. It also doesn’t tell the story of the player that doesn’t just stop because they put the ball in a net or through a field post. They don’t stop, satisfied with hitting the mark once, and go sit on a couch to eat potato chips and watch TV.What if we built our story, that only ends when we are no more, in a manner that is shaped by what we really care about? Not what anyone expects or tells you it should be. What if we wrote it like we lived in a void of outside pressures and decided what our story would look like when someone stood up and read our life story to our great great grandchildren? I know this isn’t the first time I talked about your life being a reflection of your priorities, but what if someone could clearly read your story and see what mattered most to you? What if someone could see at a glance even, your priorities and your values? What if we start writing our story? What does this look like? At least immediately, my thoughts are like an outline. There is an example in the free download on the website. It was today that it came clear that the final piece is to basically reflect, write and celebrate each day as a part of that story. Yes, you do not have to write, but you should document even if it is a video or pictures something that you did today that served your story of who you are becoming.

https://advice.theshineapp.com/articles/the-7-types-of-fear-that-block-us-and-how-to-overcome-them/

https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-fear.html

Types of fear:

3 types large groups of fear:

  1. Rational- real, Imminent threat (life in danger) based on current factual evidence
  2. Primal - fear that is based on innate survival skills
  3. Irrational Fear - fear that is not logically based, not threat-based and manufactured by your mind. Consumed with the what-ifs spinning out of control

Less thought of types of people based on fear (irrational)

  1. Procrastinators: need to push past the fear of starting

  2. The Rule Follower: need to practice self-compassion

  3. The People Pleaser: fill your cup so you can better serve others

  4. The Outcast: Don't think about the worst-case scenario but focus on the benefits of the situation

  5. The Self Doubter: Step outside of the comfort zone and then take note of the result

  6. The Excuse Maker: Set small (SMART) goals daily and stick to them

  7. The Pessimist: look at hardships as lessons to learn from instead of roadblocks and keep moving

  8. Fear of Failure

The Bible has 2 types of fear:

1) Fear of God (healthy respect that is wise and beneficial)

Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 19:23,Proverbs 14:27,Proverbs 14:26.

2) Spirit of Fear that Holds us Back:

This is the “spirit of fear” mentioned in 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). A spirit of fearfulness and timidity does not come from God.

Psalm 115:11 tells all who fear the Lord to trust the Lord for he is your helper and your shield.

Psalm 112 reminds us that we don’t have to fear bad news but can confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly

So a healthy respect for the Lord and what he is capable of accompanied by the understanding that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear and he is looking out for us can lead us really far.

“Let go and Let God”.

Keep giving it to God, keep praying and keep trusting. Pray for Peace beyond understanding. Pray for him to close the doors that are meant to be closed and then trust that he will.

Stay in the word, he gives you what you need when you need it. It also reminds you of his character and how he has taken care of so many.

Refuse to speak “curses over your life”

Remember the Bible says his power is made perfect in weakness. Focus on many of the promises in the Bible.

Memorize Scripture - here are 20 pick one

Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 27:11, Psalm 46:1-3, Psalm 118:6, John 14:27, Deuteronomy 31:6, Deuteronomy 31:8, Isaiah 41:13, Isaiah 43:1, Hebrews 13:6, Deuteronomy 3:22, Luke 12:32, Lamentations 3:57, Psalm 56:3-4, Psalm 18:2, Haggai 2:5, Luke 12;7, Romans 8:28, Phillipians 4:6

We don't really fail unless we stop trying.

Courage and bravery isn't the absence of fear.

"Feel the fear and do it anyway"

Don't let it paralyze you, let it propel you. Let FOMO (fear of missing out) push you by knowing he has plans to give you such great things.

Boundaries

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/rethink-your-way-the-good-life/201809/why-is-it-so-hard-set-boundaries https://brilliantio.com/why-is-it-so-hard-to-set-boundaries/ https://www.hardinlife.com/blog/2021/10/10/top-5-reasons-we-dont-set-boundaries

12 Signs you lack boundaries

  1. YOUR RELATIONSHIPS TEND TO BE DIFFICULT OR DRAMATIC.
  2. YOU FIND DECISION MAKING A REAL CHALLENGE. You can end up spending so much of your life doing what others want that you lose a sense of self.
  3. YOU REALLY, REALLY HATE TO LET OTHER PEOPLE DOWN. AKA people pleaser - always saying yes or going along to please others.
  4. TWO WORDS – GUILT AND ANXIETY. * and depression
  5. YOU ARE OFTEN TIRED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *I think you really know the reason, you are overburdened
  6. YOUR RADAR IS OFF WHEN IT COMES TO SHARING. You tend to overshare private details of your life with people you just met, leaving you open to hurt and manipulation. But then, when someone wants to be close with you, you panic.
  7. YOU ARE CONSTANTLY THE VICTIM OF SITUATIONS. Perhaps you you feel overlooked or blamed at work, in your family, and in your social circles. You might even be the sort of person that things always seem to go wrong for.
  8. YOU ARE A TINY BIT ANNOYED MOST OF THE TIME.
  9. YOU SECRETLY FEEL THAT OTHERS DON’T SHOW YOU RESPECT.
  10. YOU MIGHT JUST BE PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. or acting like a martyr This website and its content is copyright of Harley Therapy Ltd. - © 2006-2022 https://www.harleytherapy.co.uk/. God Models Boundaries Genesis 2:15-17 – The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden – except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Psalm 8:29 when He set a limit for the sea so that the waters would not violate His command, when He laid out the foundations of the earth. Rules about who can go past the curtain in the temple 40 years in the desert and who could enter the promised land and who couldn't 10 Commandments Why we don't set boundaries • Pride • Perfectionism • Social Conditioning • Fear of being alone • Fear of losing love • Fear of being misunderstood • Fear of not getting a raise • Fear of Rejection • Fear of Conflict • Fear of Missing out • Fear of disappointing someone Common thread is Fear (by the way podcast is coming on Fear). "Fear of man brings a snare but who trusts in the Lord is Exalted Psalm 29:25 * What is a snare? Trap and the harder you try to get out the worse it can be. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Why we should set boundaries • Strength • Self Esteem • So we aren't burnt out or exhausted • Avoid resentment • Martyr • Protects peace • Preserves priorities • Stress - affects health (blood pressure, heart disease, etc), relationships, etc. • We make better choices before the heat of the moment What kinds of boundaries o Physical - protecting your bubble (hugging the non huggers), protecting your property (non lending things you would be devastated if you didn't get back), kids can hang out in certain areas and not others, etc. o Emotional - gossips, drama, forgiveness doesn't mean you have to keep getting burned o Mental/Intellectual - what we allow to enter our mind, what we focus on, stress, perfectionism o Spiritual - not allowing others to impede on your faith, not protecting others right to not be offended so much that you sacrifice your own right or your faith o Relational/Social - Media, time, lending money, how someone speaks to you, gossiping, emotional dumping, negative attitudes, time for yourself and God. You will never please everyone. o Time -

Another fantastic talk about money and what the worldly perspective is versus what the biblical perspective is, which often differs greatly.  There is so much goodness and guidance that comes from his word to help us navigate every day life!

We talk about:

1) God Owns everything - Exodus 19:5, Job 41:11, 1 Timothy 4:35, and Psalm 24:1

2) Not Loving Material Goods or Money - Luke 12:15, Matthew 6:19-20, Matthew 13:44-46, Ecclesiastes 5:10, 1 Timothy 6:10, Luke 14:13-14

This episode kicks off our theme for a bit of what Gods says versus what the world says.  Sometimes this gets very muddled in our mind, but the reality is most of it differs very greatly.  As I deep dive into these biblical truths I hope and pray he reveals to us what we need to change in our thinking, actions and more.  Come with me as we transform ourselves with the renewing of our minds

Lord, you want me to do what? Put out an imperfect episode without any editing or changes? What about doing everything as if it is for you and doing it well? Are you sure?

This was how my conversation with God started this morning when he put on my heart to let go of my desires to "straighten" up this episode or even release it in the order I had intended. However, I listened out of obedience and hope you feel him move the way I have! I didn't think that I had a perfectionistic attitude until I was struck by the words from Cas of Clutterbug.me this week. Feel free to take the same quiz I did, but that isn't the most important takeaway. The important takeaway was that many of us have at least part of a perfectionist attitude and how much it affects our lives! Perfectionism paralysis should be considered a serious epidemic and I am ready to do my part to help all of us break these chains. I don't have all the tools but I have some exciting information to share with you this week. Let's get comfortable stepping out of the comfort zone together!

It is essential in our process to examine our priorities and what that looks like in our life.  How does that reflect in the decisions we make and the actions we take?  We are to be more intentional and yet we are to leave room for God to work things according to his will.  As always, it is a balance but let's continue on this journey together.

Sometimes we discount small things to be insignificant and unworthy of our attention.  The bible actually tells us a much different story and gives a fantastic example of how life can significantly be impacted by small choices.  We are given little so we can prove we can handle much, let's work together on being good stewards of everything we have.

Buckle up buttercup, because I have quite a story for you.  This is the first part of our forgiveness journey, but I felt it was very important to share the story behind my struggle with forgiveness in the most condensed version I could come up with.  I think most of us have a story of hurt somewhere in our lives and in no way is mine more significant, but it is quite a crazy tale (Lifetime Movies?).  We won't park in this lot of unforgiveness however, join me in part 2 as I have learned the path to forgiveness and best of all freedom. What could be better for your future than that?
