Maria Benardis of Greekalicious shares her passion for food, eating and healing by adopting ancient Greek wisdoms and philosophies. An important ancient Greek wisdom practiced was that of “agapi” (the Greek word for unconditional love) to attain harmony – a state of being free of judgment, fear and ego. Agapi was practiced in the kitchen when eating and in life. With agapi all becomes unified and creativity flows. The ancient Greeks had an emphasis on cooking spiritually rather than stressfully. When we cook with agapi and positive energy we bring a joyful harmonious energy into the kitchen and into our lives. When we cook with agapi we are centered and are able to cook intuitively using all our senses including our soul. To achieve a sense of agapi the ancient Greeks incorporated many therapies such as light therapy and color therapy in the kitchen and in their lives. Our guest is not feeling very happy about the latest Supreme Court ruling regarding same-sex marriage. He feels that the ruling is a significant setback for Americans who believe in the Constitution, rule of law, and marriage itself which according to him is, and should only be, a union of one man and one woman. His name is Ryan Anderson and he’s a Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. He is the author of the new book called ‘Truth Overruled: The Future of Marriage and Religious Freedom’. Ryan explains his definition of marriage, and why changing it redefines marriage. In the process he also believes that the Supreme Court got it wrong. Apparently, homosexuality is found in over 400 species of life – but homophobia is only found in one. With the Supreme Court ruling in favor of gay marriage there has been a significant out pour of opinion – both in favor of it and those who are against it. Our guest today gives us a deeper insight into what it means to be a gay human being, a gay spouse, a gay follower of God and a gay parent – only because he is all four of them. Pastor Randy Eddy McCain from the Open Door Community Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas gives us an insight into the world of being gay. I ask him if gays have hijacked the word ‘marriage’, and now that gays can marry – does that mean incestual relationships also deserve the same right? There was a large level of support from the heterosexual community of the Supreme Court ruling, but when I asked if these very parents had any objection to their children being in same-sex relationships, I was met with a loud silence. And of course, no show is complete without some of my crazy questions such as: Who is the real man in the marriage? Who does the dishes? Who wears the real pants in the house? Who cries more? Whose surname is taken after wedlock? Randy tolerates me like never before.
I have to be honest that when this topic reached my desk, I didn’t give it much attention – simply because I thought it would be a boring one. But the more I looked into it, the more mystery and intrigue there was to uncover. While everyone celebrates his victory the underlying problems still exist. This is a story of a battle that has been won but where the war still wages on. We must ask ourselves if we want America’s military to look like America then what does an American look like?

Banking is probably one of the most boring and uninspiring tasks that I do in my life. It claims that existing banks charge us fees unnecessarily (no kidding!) and don’t reward our savings in the way Bankmobile can (ok, now maybe you might have piqued my interest!). This bank claims to be different and wants to disrupt the way banking exists. Well, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is – so I contact Bankmobile and speak with their Chairman, Jay Sidhu and the Chief Strategy Officer, Luvleen Sidhu. “A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke.” –Groucho Marx Only in America can you go from being a high profile lawyer to a high profile cigar aficionado. And quite frankly anything beats being the former! A good ol’ cigar or stogie conjures up different images in my mind. Part of me thinks of the good old days where leather club chairs were filled with men in tuxedos, dinner jackets and even smoking jackets holding crystal goblets sparkling with liquid gold. Conversations of philosophy, politics and culture filled the air, all by the fireplace that was stoked by the butler at hand. Roll forward to present day and here’s the more likely scenario: buck-eyed cigar smokers desperately looking for a venue that allows such a pastime to be conducted. Standards and expectations have also lowered. Their simple requirements are that such aforementioned venues have a roof, four walls and preferably, a door. Secondly, these so called establishments are multipurpose tobacconists with old chairs probably inherited from the owners’ ancestors, and if you’re lucky you can even find a plastic garden chair as a substitute. You are then probably in the company of patrons who show up in a style that resembles the fashion sense of those who indulge in tailgating, or those who have managed to escape the clutches of their spouses under the pretext of running errands at their local home improvement store. If you are looking for an accompaniment such as a liqueur or your choice of liquor then stay thirsty my friends. At best you are most likely to find a kettle, powdered milk and stale instant coffee…for two dollars and fifty cents. But who cares? Because you are in the company of like-minded individuals who will sacrifice these frivolities just to enjoy a smoke. And that, my friendly aficionados, is what the power of indulging in a great cigar has over those who enjoy a good smoke. Rocky Patel has taken the cigar world by storm, because neither does he come from the industry nor is he remotely South American by descent. He stresses that cigars should be a leisurely pursuit for those who wish to relax and value the stretch of time rather than the rush of it. Choosing a cigar is a very sensual experience.
