Men,

Your ability to master your emotions will determine your destiny.

Decisions are extremely important. Wherever you are or wherever you will be are a result of the decisions you have made and are making right no.

Decisions determine our destiny. Our challenge is to make decision the line up with who we want to be or who we are called to be.

How to we make decisions that we are consist with who we are called to be.

If logic isn’t driving our decision making, that means it is emotions that are driving our decision making.

It is our thought and feelings that determine our decisions.

We do what we do because we feel like it.

We need to stop chasing apples and receive what God has already placed in us.

You already have everything in you to make you who you want to be, God has already placed that in you, but you must receive it.

Three things you need to do:

  1. Read the word.
  2. Receive the word
  3. Reminded of the word consistently

You already walk in the image and the likeness of God.

Do not let analysis paralysis stop you from taking the next step

Let's talk about the power you have to :

  1. Increase your belief in the end result
  2. Do some research and make a plan
  3. Take the step

I know your prayer life has felt like a struggle lately. You've been asking for something for so long, but it hasn't happened—or if it did happen, you don't feel like God was involved in the process at all.

But here's the thing...

God is not a vending machine.

When we pray, he doesn't dispense our requests like snacks or drinks—he cares about us and wants what's best for us.

In this podcast episode, you'll discover how your prayers are really being answered. It's common for us to pray for things that aren't what God wants—so we never see Him answering our requests the way He intends.

Instead, He's planting seeds and waiting for His perfect timing to bring those seeds to life.

It may take longer than we expect, but this also means that we don't have to worry about asking God for things that aren’t meant for us or praying for the wrong things.

If this sounds like something that would be helpful or interesting to you or someone else in your life, check out the episode

Men, the challenge is that we all want to win.  But how do we know when we are winning?

Not all success is sustainable.  Not at all success is healthy.

You can be winning and losing at the same time.  You can be winning in at work but losing at life.

We define success by Material, Money, Media (social), Merit (what you do).  When we define success by these things there is no end.

You can succeed in a healthy way.

Winning is: Selfless, Service, and  Simultaneously Rewarding.

Why are you going after your goals?

What is the direction?  Become satisfied (fulfilled) then you can serve.  When you serve you succeed.

What is the subtraction?  What is the success costing you?

One of the more important issues that many men struggle with, and something I’ve struggled with in my past, is being inconsistent in practicing our faith. How does this look? Well, this looks like not spending time with God…not reading the Word…not slowing down long enough to get clarity in our lives. This inconsistency of faith shows up in other areas of our lives in the form of less peace, more stress, greater distractions and being more susceptible to the temptations, including…Getting caught up in focusing on Women, Wealth, and Winning too much. Ultimately, as a result of our inconsistency…we stray away from him and stray away from peaceful and productivity. We end up frustrated at ourselves for cyclically straying away and feel too ashamed to return to relationship with him.

We end up thinking…”I really ought to be more consistent. Will this viscous cycle of going to God, and going away from God ever change?”

Listen brother…I get it. I’ve been there. For the longest, this was the story of my relationship with God. About the only thing that was consistent was just how inconsistent I was.

Here’s a breakdown of how we think and what happens…

We definitely our faith and relationship with God is important enough to address and pay some level of attention to, but not important enough to prioritize.

We believe…

“I’m so busy…I don’t have time to commit to developing my faith.”

Therefore,

  • Life gets busy…spiritual life gets edged out
  • Next thing you know…you are feeling far from God
  • Then we end up living in such a way that is opposite of the man we desire to be

As a result:

  • Our faith becomes a part of life instead of the foundation our work and lives should reflect
  • Relationship with God becomes convenient and comfortable instead of consistent

HOWEVER, here is what I’ve found…

  1. Our relationship with God is not just A PART of our lives…but our lives fall APART without a consistent relationship with God.
  2. Greater the Cost = Greater the consistency. What I mean is this. What matters the most to us is…guess what? US!!! We were born and have always been selfish. We eat, breath, and sleep thinking about us and our problems. God asks for the exact thing we care about the most…which is us. Once we pay up…once we pay with ourselves, we WITH NO DOUBT become more consistent in our relationship with God. I can prove it! I paid almost $200K to go to medical school. And guess what…I CONSISTENTLY SHOWED UP. When we pay a significant cost for something, we will consistently show up. God is asking us to yield our lives, ourselves to him. I get it’s scary…but you have no idea the greatness that awaits on the other side of that cost! Better said…that investment of yourself to him!

Which leads me to the #1 reason why men struggle with consistency in their faith:

PRIDE!!

  • We fail to see or accept, that we really ain’t running things
  • We fail to accept help around us
  • We fail to follow something greater
  • We fail to yield to God as the only one who sits on the throne of our lives

Since we believe these things…then our behavior reflects it.

When we know we don’t know something…we are more willing to follow someone’s lead. Think about it:

  • When we lost, we ask for directions (at least I hope you do…lol) and yield to help from someone who knows more than us.
  • When we need expert advice, like from a doctor or a lawyer, we again yield to someone who knows more than us

Not until (1) you willingly admit you can’t do it on your own, OR (2) it hurts bad enough to ask for help, do we conclude that we need God.

That was my story. I tried to work on my actions…change my decisions…work harder…tried to focus more. It wasn’t until I finally said…”God, I need your help, and I can’t do life without you”, that things changed!

So how can we be more consistent in our relationship with God.

  1. Cost:
    1. We must pay the cost. We must INVEST in our relationship with God. We must continually invest more and more of ourselves. And as we do, we will experience more and more consistency. The greater the cost (aka investment), the greater the consistency. Therefore, we must yield.
  2. Community:
    1. When we surround ourselves with other ELITE MEN…men who desire to walk with God and value the importance of prioritizing a relationship with him, then we can improve our consistency with God.
  3. Chronicle:
    1. What I mean by ‘Chronicle’ is we must understand ‘The story of God’. Read the Bible and understand it is NOT a religious book. It is a great instruction manual on how to be effective in life

So, question…Are you willing to yield?

I want you to imagine a life of being the man you’ve desired and dreamed of being. It awaits on the other side of investing in your relationship with God, by yielding.

3 Critical Mistakes That Prevent Men from Reaching Their Full Potential

Truth be told, one of my greatest fears is that I will not reach the potential that God me put on this earth for. That I won’t complete my assignment. That I will fall short of what he’s asked me to do. This has kept me up many of nights…A fear and deep concern of not fulfilling my potential while here on earth.

And for many men it’s the same fear. However, it is a real thing that we are not currently fulfilling our potential. We are not showing up as the husband, father, business owner as we can be. We are allowing the ‘3 Killer S’s’ to destroy our life: Sex, Status, and Salary to destroy us. We are not optimizing our health, wealth, and have a distant relationship with God that is better described as convenient or have completely left him out of our work and lives. This causes us to feel frustrated, stuck and unfulfilled. We are left wondering, “Is this it?” “How did I succeed professionally but fall short in every other area of life?”

Listen though man…I’ve been there! I know exactly how you feel! There was a time in my life where I was successful, but stuck & unfulfilled. My life was burdened by painful & sinful decisions that, little did I know, was destroying my work and my life. Today I’ll share how I went from successful yet stuck to mastery of work and life.

We often think…if I can only succeed at my goals, then I will be fulfilled.

  • So we attack our goals with relentless pursuit
  • And we do it at the cost of our faith, our family, our fitness and overall wellbeing
  • And we become stuck! Stuck in our goals…Stuck in life.

…Ultimately living in fear of mediocrity. Living in fear of the constant cycle of staying stuck and wondering if we will ever advance past our demon of being stagnation: Being better than most, but not what we know we are capable of as men.

However, this is what I’ve discovered to be 3 critical mistakes we make that keep us stuck and failing to get to the next level in our work and life:

  1. Isolation: We hide when we are struggling
    1. This is exactly what Adam did in the Bible. Made a mistake…led to shame…and then hid. We do the same thing.
    2. Solution: Community. Once I got around a community of like-minded men that were where I wanted to be in life…I began to get unstuck.
  2. Ignorance: We fail to seek knowledge that can get us to the next level OR we look for knowledge in the wrong places
    1. We lack knowledge of Mindset
    2. We lack knowledge of Identity
    3. We lack knowledge of Purpose and Influence
    4. This knowledge is ALL in the greatest peak performance guide ever: The Bible
    5. Solution: Curriculum…Biblical knowledge. Once I did this, I began to have practical ways to tap into my potential as a man.
  3. Inflation: Pride. The unwillingness to ask for help. Think we know it or can figure it out on our own
    1. This is the biggest killer!!
    2. Definition of inflation: a persistent, substantial rise in the general level of prices related to an increase in the volume of money and resulting in the loss of value of currency. Basically, the more inflation and pride we have the less value we provide as husbands, fathers, business owners, entrepreneurs, and leaders!
    3. Solution: Coaching and Mentorship…ASK FOR HELP!!!! GET HELP!! This will accelerate your results!!
    4. Every area where I have eventually received help and coaching has had exponential growth in the shortest possible time. This is the secret to success…but really isn’t a secret at all.

Action: Here is what I want you to do…choose 1 of the 3 above to work on. Either community, curriculum, or coaching. But remember, seeking help will ACCELERATE your results.

Imagine what it would be like to reach the level of performance in your work and life that you’ve dreamed of. Imagine fulfilling your potential…and having the income, impact, influence you’ve always imagined. Imagine becoming the ELITE MAN that you desire to be, that God made you to be, and that I know is inside of you! It’s closer than you think…but you must give up isolation, ignorance, and inflation…and seek help!

“We seek the approval of other people at the demise of our soul…”

  • Pastor Vincent Campbell

Ain’t that the truth!!

Pastor Vincent Campbell is a BEAST when it comes to leading and mentoring men! I’ve had the privilege to see him speak live at multiple men’s conferences and after hearing his personal story and the impact he’s had on other men (including myself)…I HAD to interview him. He is the lead pastor at The Faith Center in Atlanta and an author, successful entrepreneur of multiple businesses, and national speaker.

In this interview we discuss why men prioritize our success in our career and business over our success in other areas of life (i.e. faith, family, health, etc.). He talks about the difference between ‘success vs pseudosuccess’ and how pseudosuccess is destroying our lives. He believes one of our problems is that we seek to be validated as men in all the wrong places.

We then talk about the tips and strategies that he believes we should apply to begin to live like ELITE MEN…by succeeding at work AND winning in life. He talks about the 3 H’s men need to address in order for us to overcome the problems preventing us from being ELITE. We also discuss two (2) ways men can learn…either by (1) mistakes or (2) mentors. We both agreed that mentorship is a much better way to learn because it limits mistakes.

Make sure you follow Pastor Vincent Campbell @pastorvincentcampbell on Facebook and Instagram

A Key To Overcome Inconsistency

Have you ever known you are supposed to doing a certain action but you still don’t do it? Have you ever been inconsistent at something…are aware of it…but still choose not to do it?

I understand. I’ve been there before…many of times. Too many to count.

Why is it important?

  • Consistency is required for lasting results. Without consistency…we can kiss our results goodbye.

How it manifests

  • It shows up in every aspect of life
    • Faith: Not spending time with God and the Word
    • Family & Relationships: Not spending time with family and wife
    • Health: Not working out
    • Wealth: Not saving money
    • Career: Not advancing in career or business

We often think this way to attempt to be more consistent…

  • “I just need to work harder, focus more, and/or take it more serious”
  • This turns into temporary motivation
  • And ends up leading right back to where you started
  • Now you become afraid to set a goal again because of fear of failure and lack of commitment and consistency

7 Reasons why we are inconsistent:

Why are we inconsistent? Why do we lack commitment?

  1. We fail to understand the cost of inconsistency. It costs us more than we think by not being consistent.
  2. The commitment to our goal doesn’t cost us enough. The greater investment, the greater commitment.
  3. We don’t understand our identity, and our gifts and talents. We were not made as inconsistent beings. But we will be more consistent with tasks that employ our God-given gifts and talents.
  4. Distraction: We allow ourselves to do things that don’t optimize the efficiency of our time. We are typically consistent in things we enjoy doing or that bring us joy. And inconsistent toward things we are not excited about.
  5. Lack of clarity on what we want. Lack of clarity leads to doing tasks that are not congruent with what we really want.
  6. Low capacity: Our mindset doesn’t allow us to operate at a higher capacity
  7. Pride & Selfishness: Trying to do it all on our own

What I’ve found is that consistency and commitment has nothing to do with working harder. It has everything to do with investment and cost.

“Your Level of Commitment and Consistency toward a goal is equal to the level of Investment or Cost of Inconsistency”

The way to accelerate results is to get help. Period! This costs you your pride and selfishness because you have to be willing to do things their way. The reason why you are consistent is because you’ve been attempting to do it your way this whole time…that’s why it’s not working.

It doesn’t matter the goal…Commitment & Consistency is equal to investment of acceleration or cost of inconsistency

  1. Health: Money for personal trainer…or heartattack
  2. Marriage: Counseling…or potential divorce
  3. Career/Business: Money for leadership training…or fledgling business
  4. Finances: Money for financial expert/education…lack of wealth
  5. Faith: Costs you your pride and selfishness…or death

The reason investment works:

  • We show up when we invest a lot of resources.
  • We justify the cost when we invest. We look for the positive things in whatever we invest in.
  • You cannot place a monetary gain on what happens from the investment

Things to do:

  1. Pay someone
    1. Make the investment an uncomfortable investment toward yourself so that you show up. Similar to the way I showed up for medical school because it was an investment of $200,000. This level of investment created consistency and commitment on my part
  2. Fast forward the end
    1. Think about all the consequences that will happen if you remain inconsistent. Play it forward. You can avoid those outcomes and lack of results by being consistent now.

God is proof and the perfect example of this idea. The reason he is so committed to us is because our salvation cost God the life of his son. Jesus is committed to us because our salvation cost him his life! Thank God!

I know we all want to succeed. But for many of us the question is…how do we simultaneously succeed AND maintain our faith and relationship with God? Is it really possible to succeed professionally without sacrificing your faith?

For many of us success has come at a great sacrifice. It has come at the cost of…

  • Our faith
  • Our family and marriage
  • Our Personal relationships
  • Our Health

For many of us we believe that you must choose between one or the other…Choose between success OR faith and fulfillment. We’ve been lead to believe that success and a strong faith and walk with God cannot happen at the same time.

Since we accept this belief as truth, we end up choosing success…but success that comes at a great cost.

Also, since all we see are examples of success costing people their personal lives…then we feel that there’s really no other way.

Therefore, we hunt success and justify not being close to God, not spending time with our spouse and children, and not prioritizing our health. Eventually, we achieve but we look at what it cost us…

  • Feeling far away from God
  • Marriage that feels more like having a roommate
  • Children wish you spent more time with them
  • Relationships that are transactional
  • Health is not optimal…high stress and high blood pressure

And we justify our actions by saying…”I’m busy….busy building my dream”. We say “once I achieve” or “when I have more time”, then I will…

  • spend more time with God
  • spend more time with family
  • and do all the things that matter

We edge God out of our lives saying we don’t have the time to spend more time with Him and wonder why our lives aren’t working. The reason our lives aren’t working is because we aren’t working with God.

Here’s what I found…

Faith must come first, if I want to succeed without it costing your life and fulfillment.

Your personal relationship with God MUST come above all if I want everything you’ve ever dreamed of.

You don’t have to choose between success and faith. As a matter of fact…your level of success IN ANYTHING is completely dependent on your level of personal relationship with God and the faith that comes from that.

  • Personal relationship with God is the path to peak performance.
  • Personal relationship with God is the path to success and being highly effective in what you do.

There are 2 different ways to achieve your goals:

  • Without God: When we try to succeed without God, it costs us our sweat, and sorrow from the relationships we sacrifice to achieve our goals.

  • With God: When we try to succeed by prioritizing our faith and personal relationship with God, the currency is faith…the currency is letting go of how you want to do it. The currency is surrendering.

My story: I tried to succeed without God and it nearly cost me my marriage, my family, and certainly cost me my fulfillment. It wasn’t until I started working WITH God, that I experienced my work & life being more effective than it ever had working alone.

Having it ALL…which is the ability to achieve at a high-level, and have great integrity, and great relationships and get it all done, is contingent upon a strong relationship with God.

One of the main reasons why faith must come first in order for you to succeed is because your relationship with God will serve as your primary means of fulfillment, instead of trying to replace the incomparable lasting fulfillment from God, with temporary fulfillment from your achievements. Being fulfilled by God will cause you to live life from a place of abundance and eagerness to serve others from your filled cup.

So here is the challenge: Live out Matthew 6:33

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you”

Believe it, and trust it.

The CHALLENGE:

We have multiple responsibilities in our work, businesses, and personal lives and it is often times struggle to get everything done. More often than not, we are only getting a portion of our tasks done…and many times it’s coming at the cost of…

  • Overwhelmed
  • Stressed
  • Being busy but not much to show for it
  • Sacrificing our family and personal lives

I’ve been there before and know what it feels like to work really hard, and really busy, but at the end of the day seems like not much actually got done.

The SOLUTION:

Here is the simple key to greater productivity in work & life:

SLOW DOWN & PLAN

I’m talking about taking the time to think about your next best step. We often times are moving too fast to stop and think. We are running so fast that we are slowing down long enough to see if we are running in the wrong direction. What’s the benefit of speed if it’s only getting me to the wrong place faster?

Here are the steps to slowing down and planning:

  1. Take time daily to plan:

    • Think about the area of life that needs the most attention (i.e. faith, family/marriage, health, wealth, career, calling)
    • Daily: Look at that area of life and figure out what needs to be addressed daily in order to achieve your goal
    • Weekly: Take time weekly to reflect on how the prior week went and what needs to be done or tweaked this week to improve toward your goal in that area of work or life.
  2. Ask yourself questions:

    1. “What is the most effective use of my time?”
    2. “What’s the best next step I need to take to make my next step easier?”
      1. Example
    3. “What worked/didn’t work last week? How can I improve?
  3. Execute

    1. Take action after slowing down and planning
    2. Implement what you’ve discovered needs to be adjusted.

THE RESULT:

Here’s what you’ll experience if you regularly slow down and plan:

  • Less stress
  • Less overwhelmed
  • More effectiveness leading to productivity

“Our fulfillment is rooted in clarity of our identity”

Hold on to your seats!!! This interview is REAL, RAW, AND RELEVANT to you and your life!!

WOW! This was one of the most energetic and also one of my favorite interviews! Myron Edmonds is a pastor, leadership consultant, author and Founder of The Winning Circle coaching for men.

So many nuggets & bombs dropped in this interview! Myron talks about how we as men ‘don’t have to have it all together’…yet this stereotype we continue to fulfill is one in which we hide behind trying to be perfect in the world. When we feel like we have to have it all together…we fall victim to not being authentic and vulnerable, which causes us to lead these secret lives filled with distractions and devices that draw us farther and farther away from our full potential. Vulnerability and authenticity is the cure for this…which are IMPERATIVE traits to being an ELITE MAN.

He talks about the difference between the ‘persona’ vs the ‘person’ and the problems we create for ourselves when these two ideas become disconnected…which leads to what he describes as a ‘Crisis of Faith’.

The good news is he gives us some GREAT practical things we can do as men to eliminate this ‘Toxic Masculinity’ from our lives and how we can become the men we’ve all envisioned for ourselves.

Be sure to follow him @itsmyronlive on Instagram and Myron Edmonds on Facebook

How do you feel about yourself when you don’t succeed at something?

How do you feel about yourself when you fail to reach your goal?

Do you define your identity, self-worth, and value based on your results?

For example, do you self-identify with being of value and worthy only once you succeed at something? Do you beat yourself up if you fail to accomplish something?

A ‘success mindset’ can be very helpful in our ability to achieve, but if we become dependent on success for our self-worth…it can go from helpful to hindering our effectiveness and fulfillment.

Don’t beat yourself up when you don’t succeed at something!! Don’t go down the self-destructive mindset of becoming dependent upon success to have a sense of worth and value.

I’ve experienced this self-destructive success mindset before. I only saw myself as accepted and validated once I accomplished something…and if I didn’t, I would feel really bad about myself. I needed to succeed primarily to MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT ME!!

Many of us are striving to achieve something to help us have a sense of value, worth and significance…feel validated. Often times it is success!! Achievement!! Once we achieve something or succeed at something it brings us a sense of worth and value as a man.

  • Once I earn the money, I will have made it…I’ll feel better about myself
  • Once I lose the weight, I will have made it…I’ll feel better about myself
  • Once I launch that next project……I’ll feel better about myself
  • Once I succeed at the next thing……I’ll feel better about myself

We become dependent on success and achievement to validate us…to feel worthy…to feel valuable.

Definition of dependence: relying on or being controlled by someone or something else

A synonym for dependence is…addiction! We often rely and become controlled by success…it becomes an addiction.

The self-destructive success mindset poses a challenge in 2 ways:

  1. When you don’t achieve…you feel inadequate. Because your value is tied directly to your success
  2. No amount of success ever becomes enough. Just like any addiction…what satisfied before, won’t continue to satisfy. Now it becomes a viscous cycle of shame and guilt and feeling less than, because of a constant chase for something you feel you need but can’t ever get to.

When we become dependent on something external from us (success, money, titles, what others say, etc.)…aka things we cannot control…to provide validation and fulfillment, we set up an addictive relationship with whatever the outcome is that we want.

  • For example:
    • Money
    • Titles
    • Status

Here’s a good way to check if you may be affected from the self-destructive success mindset. Ask yourself these questions:

  • “How would you feel about yourself if success in your career or business completely stopped?”
  • “How have you felt about yourself in the past whenever you failed to accomplish a goal?” Do you take it really hard? Beat yourself up?
  • “Would you feel inadequate? Like a failure?”

It’s ok to feel disappointed, but you can’t stay in those emotions. You can’t turn your mistakes and failures into what defines you.

How do you avoid becoming dependent on success for your validation?

3 things to understand:

  1. Your validation MUST come from INTERNAL, not EXTERNAL from you!

    1. You cannot completely control external circumstances
    2. If you rely on external circumstances to define you, then your emotions and self-worth will be defined by things you cannot fully control
    3. You will become your mistakes
      1. For example: If you failed as a business owner, you cannot define yourself as a person who’s not good at business. It was simply a mistake to learn from…not to self-identify with
    4. Your validation MUST come from who God says you are!
      1. This is validation from INTERNAL, not EXTERNAL
      2. This validation doesn’t change. This validation is consistent.
      3. This validation is the truth of who you are
        1. You are fearfully and wonderfully made
        2. You are made in the image and likeness of God
  2. You are more than a conqueror

  3. You will safely experience more success once you depend on your identity in God, than your identity in yourself by your results.

Once you see yourself as God sees you…WATCH OUT!!

Similar to basketball, a mistake is no more than a missed shot. Just because Steph Curry misses a shot, he doesn’t self-identify himself as a bad shooter...it’s simply a missed shot. A missed shot doesn’t define who he is as a basketball player. Part of why he’s a good shooter is because he believes himself to be before he ever picks up a ball.

Once you see yourself as God sees you, you won’t be a slave to time and circumstances…you’ll rest in the inevitability of your results, because you’ll know who you are…an ELITE MAN!

Have you ever been in a season of consistent challenges? Where it seems like you can’t catch a break?

Recently I’ve been navigating a season where I’ve been faced with challenges in multiple areas of life, including…

  • Major transitions within in my career
  • Unexpected Financial dilemmas
  • Fatherhood challenges of an adolescent daughter
  • Health & Fitness challenges

In the past…this is type of stressful season would be a prime setup for me making horrible decisions. Stress is a trigger for poor decision making. Stress is a trigger to develop ‘escapes’ from negative emotions of adverse circumstances. Escapes are defined as poor decisions, bad habits, and vices take away value from your life or adversely affect the well-being of others.

This leads to potential bad decisions in any area of life including…

  • Poor health decisions
  • Poor marital decisions
  • Poor financial decisions
  • Neglecting faith & Family…just to name a few

Here is the typical sequence when we face significant stress:

Stress -> Negative emotions -> Bad decisions -> More stress -> on and on…

In the past, I would also would get in the habit of working harder during this time. It was easier to work harder and neglect the poor decisions being made, instead of slowing down to stop the cycle of stress and poor decisions.

This can become really discouraging. So, How do you successfully navigate this season of consistent challenges?

What I’ve found is that in the midst of challenges and stress, it is not the time to just put your head down and keep on working. That’s a setup for neglect and snowballing problems.

There are 2 strategies I’ve found that have been gamechangers when it comes to successfully navigating the valleys along the way to future victory:

  1. Slow down
  2. Share your thoughts

First let’s discuss Slowing down:

Definition: Taking dedicated time to THINK!

  • “What is my greatest challenge right now?”
  • “What’s the best next step for me to take?”

  • Allows you to work smarter, not harder

  • Allows you to be reassured that everything will be ok
  • Puts things in right perspective and limits worry
  • Allows you to get clarity

Action item: Prayer and silent time in the morning! This time will allow you to gather your thoughts and have clarity on what’s the best next step to take.

Second, Share your thoughts:

Definition: Sharing your challenges with someone you know and trust

  • Allows for clarity also
  • Allows for release of the weight of overwhelm…it’s therapeutic!

Action: Choose someone who is close to you that you trust to be transparent with (i.e. spouse, brother, friend, etc) Call them and ask if they would be willing to lend an ear simply so you can get your emotions off of your chest.

Remember this: These seasons are important…very important! Because how we navigate these valleys determines how we navigate the future victories. This adversity is a precursor to future achievement.

Therefore, Slow down & Share your thoughts

The best gameplan for results in your work and life, is dependent on how solid your God-Plan is for building a personal relationship with God.

We need to get used to expecting the unexpected. Unexpected adverse circumstances (aka. crisis & challenges) are going to happen…it’s a guarantee. When it comes to dealing with these adversities…How we respond will determine our results.

Much of success and fulfillment is related not so much on what you do at the mountaintop of life but how you manage the valleys of adversity.

We are pretty good at setting goals for the different areas in our lives where we want to see results.

We then set a gameplan in order to hit the goal.

However, it’s not uncommon that an unexpected adverse outcome/crisis/challenge will force you to change the gameplan. (i.e. covid pandemic, job loss, decreased business, relationships challenges, etc.)

And how you respond to that crisis and challenge will determine your results:

  • Responses to unexpected crisis/challenge that ruin our future results consist of:
    • Panic
    • Fear
    • Lack of Action/Stuck
    • Depression
    • Focusing on the problem
    • Negativity

However, a God-plan can handle ANY challenge and adverse outcome…PERIOD!! You don’t have to change the God-Plan!

Gameplans change. Godplans don’t. Godplans work when gameplans won’t.

Your gameplan for results, should be a GodPlan for relationship.

What is a God plan?

  • A personal plan to build a strong relationship with God
    • A schedule to spend time in prayer
    • A Bible plan
  • The more you practice a plan for God, the more God can share his plan for you!

Why a God-plan?

  1. God-Plan establishes the right belief that leads to the results you desire.

    • Belief -> Thoughts -> Feelings -> Behaviors -> Results
      • Defines your TRUE identity: You cannot outperform your self-perception
      • Example: If you drive a Ferrari but believe you have the equivalent of a Ford Focus, then you won’t get out of the Ferrari it’s true potential. Therefore, you cannot outperform how you perceive who you are or what you have.
  2. God-Plan provides confidence to have more faith than fear

    1. Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”
  3. God-Plan provides redemption

    1. Turns past wrong into right; Past pain into future purpose; past trial into triumph
      1. Genesis says what the enemy meant for evil God turns into good
      2. God is the ONLY way our permanent poor past, can be changed into future purpose and triumph
  4. Example: Despite my past pain and bad decisions in marriage, fatherhood, career, finances, and business…God continues to redeem prior poor decisions into future good.

  5. God-Plan helps you avoid getting stuck & helps you take ACCURATE action!

    1. It is a fact that what you focus on expands. Therefore, if you focus on your problems and stuckness, it will get bigger. However, a God-Plan will help you focus on God and his Power in you…and HE gets BIGGER!!
      1. Example: When golfing, it is taught not to focus on the trees or sand traps, because you’ll hit them. Instead, focus on the fairway and you will be more successful.
    2. God-Plan provides fulfillment
      1. Fact: We cannot have true sustaining fulfillment outside of God…he’s our creator. Therefore, closer connection with Him will make you whole and fill your cup. Outside of relationship with God, lasting & sustainable fulfillment cannot happen
      2. God plan allows us to get our personal cup FULL, and then FILL the cups of others. Therefore, we become FUL-FILLED. But we can’t do it with an empty cup. We need relationship with God to fill our cup.

So, what is your God plan? What are you going to do to ensure that you build a consistent relationship with God so that no matter the circumstance…you can still see results because of how you respond to crisis?

Succeed in Your Goals Without Neglecting What Matters

Fulfillment is the precursor to success, not the product of success

Many of us are stuck & unfulfilled…despite our success. Despite the goals we’ve achieved and the material things we’ve accumulated we still feel like, “there’s GOT to be more to life than this”. We often ask…”Is this it?”.

It is not uncommon for high-achieving men to think…”If I can succeed at the next goal, then I’ll be fulfilled”. Our fulfillment is directly tied to some achievement or measurable success.

This way of thinking fuels a drive to succeed at our goals in order to soothe an underlying lack of fulfillment in our lives…and are completely unaware of it. Our lack of fulfillment becomes our motivation to succeed….because if we ‘can just achieve our goal, then we will be fulfilled’.

This results in achieving the goal, but still feeling stuck, and your goals coming at the COST of your fulfillment, instead of your fulfillment being the CATALYST for your goals.

Here is what I’ve learned…

Fulfillment is what you are REALLY looking for…not success. You just believe success is going to fulfill you.

Ultimately, we are looking for lasting fulfillment in all the places that only provide temporary satisfaction.

What I’ve learned is that in order to succeed at your goals, without it costing you your fulfillment…we must flip the current way of thinking…

Fulfillment is the PRECURSOR to success, not the product of success!

Fulfillment First, Success Second!!

We have it backwards…it’s not success first, fulfillment second. It’s fulfillment 1st, Success 2nd .

The goal is to attach your fulfillment to something that will not be affected by circumstances out of your control. Unfortunately, we place our primary source of fulfillment in things external from us that we have little control over including…

  • Our work
  • Our success
  • Our status
  • Our relationships
  • Our health
  • Our wealth

The goal is to be 100% fulfilled before you ever set foot in your building for work, before you ever get the promotion, before you ever earn a certain amount of money, before you engage within a relationship. To have your cup full, before you ever have to fill the cups of others.

The only thing that is NEVER going to move or change due to the circumstances of life is God. We have complete control over this relationship because God is ALWAYS there and available and willing to build this relationship. However, we are in control of whether we engage in his invitation for the relationship.

For example: It’s like grocery shopping when you are hungry. When I grocery shop while I’m hungry (aka, not full), I continue to make poor choices of what I’m purchasing because I’m looking for things to fill my appetite and quench my hunger. However, when I grocery shop and I’m full already, I don’t make poor choices because I’m not purchasing things based on a need to satisfy my hunger.

Life is very similar. If we are unfulfilled, we look for things that will satisfy our hunger that is only temporarily filling. However, when our cup is perpetually filled by God, then I make better choices, because now I’m not making decisions to satisfy an underlying lack of fulfillment.

Benefits of fulfillment first:

  • Emotional stability: You don’t experience the rollercoaster of emotions associated not succeeding
  • Peace of mind = Better decision making: We don’t make decisions that compromise our character
  • No pressure!: We have no added pressure to succeed because we are already fulfilled. Pressure produces added stress, and stress is NOT consistent with peak performance.

How to build this relationship with God

  • Reserve time & space:
    • Create consistent daily time and space both in your schedule and a physical space at home where you’ll invest in building your relationship with God. For me it’s first thing every morning in my office.
  • Open your heart
    • Any meaningful relationship requires us to open our hearts and be vulnerable and transparent. This relationship with God is no different.
  • Daily time
    • This MUST be practiced daily. I can’t say this enough. Consistency of this daily practice will dramatically create change in your life in the form of greater fulfillment and sustainable success that doesn’t come at the cost of what really matters!

Don’t let going in the wrong direction, take you off of the right path!

Our pain:

We often get discouraged when going after our goals. It’s easy to get discouraged when pursuing our goals.

We lose hope because we meet resistance or feel like we are going in the opposite direction of our goal.

  • Family/Relationships goals: Goals to become closer with our spouses and children…but seems like relationship is getting farther apart
  • Health goals: Goal to lose weight but seems like scale is going in the wrong direction
  • Wealth/Financial goals: Goal to get out of debt or earn a certain amount but income, are going in the wrong direction
  • Careers goals: promotion or elevated income but it’s not happening

Our aspiration:

We want the straight line approach when pursuing our goals. The shortest path between 2 points is a straight line…and that’s exactly what we want. We don’t want obstacles or resistance.

We want to achieve our goals without:

  • Resistance
  • Challenge
  • Obstacles
  • Detours
  • Without the scenic route

Our challenge:

The challenge we have is that we look at resistance, challenges, obstacles, detours, and the scenic route as BAD!

However, what I’ve learned is that resistance is not all bad. Challenge is not bad. Obstacles are not bad. They are opportunities to learn and grow.

  • Relationship: Marriage challenges turn into marriage triumphs
  • Relationship: Child challenges turn into child triumphs
  • Health: Physical health challenges lead to health triumphs
  • Financial challenges lead to financial freedom

Our lives are filled with different dichotomies:

  • No freedom without restraint
  • No triumph without trials
  • No light without darkness

We often want the triumph without challenge, but the challenge is necessary for the triumph!

In every challenge, obstacle or opposite-direction type situation…no matter what the situation…there is an opportunity to do 2 things: “Learn and/or Lead!”

This is what I’ve learned…Life is about staying on Right path, even though it may be riddled with wrong/opposite directions.

For example, this is very similar to driving to a destination that has detours. Sometimes along the way, you may be driving east, when you destination is west. However, just because you are going the opposite or wrong direction, doesn’t mean you are on the wrong path.

Action Step:

How do you ensure that you are on the right path, despite it seemingly going in the opposite direction?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I have a solid personal relationship with God? Do you trust him?
    • Ensures that you are on the path he wants you on…even if it seems like the wrong direction
    • Nobody knows better than God, what’s best for you
    • Sometimes it’s a holding pattern…sometimes it’s the opposite direction
  • Do you know someone who has successfully gotten to where you are trying to go?
    • Can accelerate your progress along the path
    • Can help you avoid some of the potholes along the way
  • Are you more dependent on the “future” or your “faith” for your fulfillment?
    • If fulfillment is dependent upon your future success, it will make for an emotional rollercoaster ride along your path
  • Are you seeing obstacles along your journey as opportunities to either learn or lead?
    • Sometimes we don’t know what to do in a season…we don’t have clarity where are next step to take is. This is on purpose. But you can ALWAYS lead or learn at this point in your path.
      • Lead: Either by example or help someone else out
      • Learn: Self explanatory
    • Do you have clarity of the end goal?
      • What does the destination look like?
      • Why am I doing this?
      • Clarity on your destination is MUCH more important than clarity of your path to get there

I can guarantee that any goal that is worth going for, will have its fair share of. But it’s about mentally managing the turns along the path. If you do this…you’ll enjoy the journey instead of fighting through it.

This ONE DECISION Can Lead To Breakthrough Success & Fulfillment

Ever feel like you’ve tried everything in your power to succeed or achieve a goal and you are still not where you want to be…either in your career or life? Maybe you’ve tried the ‘secrets’ that others talk about but it doesn’t work.

I call this place in life “The Crossroad”, because you have to make a decision to do something different so you can get something different. If you continue to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result, then that’s insanity.

That crossroad often comes down to this question…

“Am I going to continue to do things my way and in my own power OR submit to God’s way with God’s power??” It’s either your way OR Gods way

MY STORY:

After doing everything I could possibly do to succeed in my home-based business and take my practice to the next level…I found myself getting the same results. In addition, my pursuits were coming at the cost of everything that mattered in my life…my faith, family, physical health, and overall fulfillment. The things that worked in the past to achieve my goals weren’t working anymore. I tried “the secrets” the gurus talk about for business…I tried conferences…I tried just about everything and nothing turned into results for me. The proverbial “well ran dry” after trying everything I could do...went through every option…and it cost me important relationships. Until I finally took the option I’d avoided the whole time…God’s option.

After I finally submitted to God’s way and God’s option of success and fulfillment in my work and life…everything changed! I started experiencing peace of mind, fulfillment, and clarity in both work, business, and life.

OUR PROBLEM:

  1. We believe our way is the right way…or better put, we believe our way is superior to God’s way. As crazy as this sounds when you read this out loud…it’s true. If we believed God’s way was better we would have been doing it a long time ago.
  2. We believe we are completely in control of our results. We believe that our results are 100% dependent on ourselves and our decisions. In reality, the ONLY thing we are in control of on this life IS OUR DECISIONS…but we ARE NOT 100% IN CONTROL OF OUR RESULTS! We can decide to plant a seed, but we aren’t guaranteed that because we plant it, that it will grow. We are not in control of the weather or the elements. This is the same for our businesses and relationships. All we can do is try to make decisions that will hopefully put us in the best place to succeed…but it’s not guaranteed.
  3. We are stubborn and selfish. We want things to happen our own way. We don’t want obstacles or challenges along the way.

If you are at a crossroads regarding some area of your life, here are 3 questions you can ask yourself to help you decide on what direction you should go (your way OR God’s way):

  1. Do I believe God knows better than I do about my current situation?
  2. Why am I REALLY going after this goal I’m struggling with? (be honest with yourself)
  3. Do I trust God?

Consider this…

Sometimes I have patients that come to see me in my clinic for a certain pain…knee pain for example. They have sought me out as an expert to help them with this problem of knee pain. However, they currently have a treatment plan that they have been doing, that isn’t completely working out for their pain. They often time will share that plan with me, hoping that if they continue doing that plan, that the pain will improve…despite the fact that I’m the expert and recommend doing something else that will work.

We do the same thing with God…the expert of ALL things. We come to him with a problem but try to convince him of our plan and not accept his plan.

THE SOLUTION:

  1. Accept that you are not in control
    1. God controls everything
    2. The only thing you can control are the decisions you make. The choices we make.
  2. Accept that God is the expert
  3. Accept God’s help

THIS ACCEPTANCE REQUIRES TRUST!! TRUST REQUIRES RELATIONSHIP!

ACTION PLAN:

  1. Build a relationship with God that will reinforce trust in him
  2. Decide to trust in God’s plan more than you trust in your plan.
    1. Difference between belief and trust.
    2. Story of tightrope walker

Here is what you can expect as a result of building a relationship with God, trusting Him, and choosing God’s way…

  • Clarity on your “Why”
  • Your Purpose
  • Clarity
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Fulfillment

If you don’t…you will continue to struggle, stress, and strangle your future success and fulfillment.

We all have big hopes and big dreams and big goals. Sometimes so big that they are scary! Not only do I want to reach my goals but I want you to reach yours as well.

With that said, the key to every goal or dream becoming reality is TAKING ACTION (aka. the ‘behaviors’) toward it. There are certain actions & behaviors that must be taken in order to…

  • Strengthen your faith
  • Have a happy marriage
  • Earn a certain level of income

However, every behavior we take OR don’t take…is attached to some underlying belief.

I’ll prove it…

My story:

I once thought that my level of success was dependent on how hard I worked. My formula for success was: Hard work = Success.

  • Therefore, I worked hard and became a doctor.
  • However, my hard work was completely influenced by how I thought…my beliefs. The reason I worked so hard was completely dependent on my underlying thoughts & beliefs.
    • If I didn’t believe I could become a doctor…I would have never worked hard enough to excel in school
    • If I didn’t believe becoming a doctor was possible…I would have never considered applying to medical school
  • Therefore, your beliefs influence your behavior. Your attitude toward an idea determines your action!

Therefore, the hard part of achieving your goal is not the doing…it’s the believing!

Once I figured this out it changed the game for me…because I then knew what to work on in order to get a desired result.

But the question is…

What must you believe in order to achieve??

The 5 things to believe in in order to achieve:

  1. Belief in the inevitability of the goal
    1. There is absolute certainty in its future reality
    2. Time is the only separator between you and your goal
    3. Circumstances don’t matter
      1. Think about driving to a predetermined destination such as work. Detours, traffic, and construction don’t stop you from reaching your destination. It is certain and inevitable that you’ll get there.
    4. This is faith! Certainty and expectation of your goals no matter what the obstacles.
  2. Belief in the possibility of the goal
    1. It can actually happen…FOR YOU!
    2. It’s impossible until someone does it.
    3. The story of Roger Bannister (1954)
      1. No one prior to 1954 ran below a 4 minute mile because of the belief that one’s heart would be damaged.
      2. He was the first to do it. After he did it, others found it possible FOR THEMSELVES and now a sub-4 minute mile is standard in high-level running
    4. You MUST believe that ‘All things are possible with God’ (Matthew 19:26)
  3. Belief in your ability
    1. You are capable. You are able!
    2. There are countless stories of people who have been able to achieve amazing things with less resources…even significant handicaps
    3. What you MUST believe: You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you (Phil 4:13)
  4. Belief that your goal is worth it
    1. The end goal must be something that MATTERS to you!
    2. It must mean something to you
    3. For example, I believe I could be an amazing figure skater…however, that doesn’t matter to me at all. Therefore, I don’t take action to become a figure skater.
  5. Belief that you are worthy of it

    1. This is a test of Self-value and how you view yourself
      1. ”Who am I?”
      2. “Am I worthy of what I’m capable of?”
  6. “Am I worthy of an unbelievable life?”

  7. We pursue what we feel worthy of

  8. You can believe in all the above 4, but if you don’t believe you are worthy of different, you’ll continue to get more of the same
  9. Someone can be royalty, but if they don’t feel worthy of the title, then it’s no different as not having the title at all
  10. We are children of God and citizens of the Kingdom of God…which means we have all the rights and privileges that come with it. However, if we don’t feel worthy of that inheritance…then it’s just as if we don’t believe we are God’s children or part of his kingdom!

Always remember this…

You get what you believe!!

Whether we want to admit it or not, both you and I, are currently achieving to the level that we believe those 5 ideas above. Therefore, we must work on our belief to change the trajectory of our lives and impact on the world!

And THE BEST way to increase all 5 of those beliefs is to increase your faith and belief in God. By working on your belief in God alone, will fuels the beliefs in everything you do and dramatically positively transform your life to greatness!

Have you ever felt like you are trying to juggle everything in life and it’s become stressful and overwhelming?

If you desire to have less stress, more peace, and more fulfillment…today I’m going to discuss the right order of life’s priorities in order to perform at a higher level with less stress

THE CHALLENGE:

We are stressed and overwhelmed. Work and life are disorganized.

With the juggling of work and life it feels like a ball is always dropping or we are scrambling to try and prevent it from dropping.

It seems like we can’t catch up with life.

Stress is a killer! Stress causes us to live in a ‘survival mode’ as opposed to ‘thriving mode’. This stressful survival mode expends a lot of energy to maintain, and unfortunately, it doesn’t leave enough energy for recovery and sustaining life. Ultimately, this stress can influence issues such as…

  • Digestion issues
  • Chest pain & Heart issues
  • Cancer, etc.

Just to name a few physical characteristics of stress.

THE PROBLEM:

We have poor ways of managing stress and lack a framework or ‘order of living’ that can ultimately help us prevent stress…instead of reacting to it.

There was a time in my life when I was very stressed and overwhelmed and it seemed like no matter how much daily work I did…it seemed like not a whole lot got done. I had no order…no structure to my work and life. Life was very reactive instead of prepared and organized.

However, I eventually learned that much of my stress was because of a lack of a framework or structured order for how to prioritize all the aspects of my life that matter. Once I learned the combination of “STRUCTURE & SPACE” in my life…I began to get more done daily, weekly, and monthly in every area of my life. My faith, fatherhood, marriage, work, health,…everything improved.

THE SOLUTION:

Non-negotiable Order of life’s Priorities: 1. God, 2. Marriage, 3. Children, 4. Work (Others),

  1. God first:
    1. Why?
      1. We are designed to perform at our best, as men, by being in direct relationship with God
      2. Success in ALL other areas of life are contingent upon this relationship and your spiritual growth
    2. 2 Ideas Prevent us from prioritizing God 1st
      1. We don’t connect our relationship with God with our performance in work and life
        1. God provides clarity!!
        2. Spiritual Growth = Greater Work/Life Performance
      2. We believe if we put God 1st, that somehow we will sacrifice our quality of life
        1. This couldn’t be any further from the truth!
        2. Relationship with God = Results in HIS WAY!
      3. My Story:

Once I began to place God as the #1 priority in my life…EVERYTHING got better! However, it took me surrendering to his will and not my own.

  1. Action Item: Create Time & Space for God
    1. INVEST Daily time with God. Start building and cultivating that relationship
  2. Marriage second:

    1. Why?
      1. An unhealthy marriage is a setup for stress and draining energy, which translates into poor performance in other areas of life
    2. Problem:
      1. We don’t see our marriage as a part of our performance but it is.
      2. We see time spent with our spouse as pulling us away from our work…instead of helping it.
  3. Happy marriage = Greater Performance

  4. My Story:

Once I began to invest quality time toward my spouse and marriage…I noticed my work life was better, because I didn’t have personal stress distracting my focus on my work and business

  1. Action Item: Create Time & Space within your marriage:
    1. INVEST in time with your spouse
      1. Weekly talk time
      2. Monthly date night
    2. Children
      1. Why after marriage?
        1. If mamma ain’t happy…the kids ain’t happy
      2. Problem:
        1. Similar to marriage…we think time with our children takes away from our work. However, we work better when relationships at home are healthy
      3. My Story:

I once thought that time with my children was drawing me away from work and preventing me from work tasks. However, once I created a routine of quality time invested in this relationship…my entire life got better!

  1. Action Item: Invest consistent Space & Time with your children

The Reason this works:

We can NEVER see or measure the magnitude of neglect of our personal life!! We are BLIND to the magnitude of neglect on both our personal and professional lives!

This way of thinking prevents neglect

Neglect = Eventual Disaster

It reinforces and FEEDS the things that matter

Prioritizing my faith and personal life made all of life better

  1. If forces you to be more efficient and effective with your professional tasks

It may give you less time to do work, but we typically give ourselves too much time to do work that actually takes less time. Give yourself 6 hours to do an 8 hour task and you’ll find you can do it in 6 hours.

  1. It puts life into perspective
    1. God is in control no matter what you think.
    2. We aren’t making things happen nearly as much as we think we are

RESULTS?

Go from stressful to stress less.

Go from no peace to peaceful.

Go from empty to fulfilled…and more results in work and life!

THE CHALLENGE: Inconsistent Action

We want to live amazing lives…crush it at work, achieve our goals, and live fulfilling lives. The results we are looking for is entirely based on the actions and behaviors we habitually do. Our Actions = Our Results. Unfortunately, we aren’t achieving our goals and living the lives we desire because we aren’t consistently taking the actions that lead to the results we want. We get stuck because of a lack of consistent action.

THE PROBLEM: We believe working harder on the ‘behaviors’ is the answer

We believe if we just work harder…put in more reps…do more work and, just do more actions that we will reach our goals.

We believe we need more self-discipline, more will power, and even accountability. We just need to ‘get our act together’ and ‘do the work’. ‘Just do it’.

I once thought the same way. I would think…

  • Just lift more weights and do more cardio…to get in shape
  • Just see more patients and work harder to achieve my career goals
  • Just try harder at loving my wife and do more for her to be a better husband
  • Just be a better father
  • Just see more clients for my business to grow

This lead to temporary and inconsistent results. It seemed no matter how good I would do in a certain area of life…I would always do something OR something would always ‘happen’ that would prevent me from leveling up and sustaining new results. Some people refer to this as self-sabotage. It was like basically a lid over the level of success and fulfillment I had in my work and life.

Now don’t get me wrong…Taking more action and doing more work isn’t entirely wrong. But HOW you go about doing the action is where most people fall short.

THE SOLUTION:

Here is what I found…no matter how hard I worked, even if I hit my goal…I didn’t sustain it. I discovered that my success wasn’t determined by how hard I worked, but by what I was actually working on! I needed to work on my mindset in order to get the results. I needed to work on my self-development to get the success. I needed to personally grow and develop.

Here’s a reminder about The Success Sequence:

IDENTITY/BELIEFS…lead to… THOUGHTS…which lead to…FEELINGS…which lead to…the ACTIONS/BEHAVIORS …that lead to RESULTS

Which means that every action/behavior is rooted in a certain belief. It wasn’t my behavior that was stopping me…it was my beliefs! Work should be done more on BELIEF vs BEHAVIOR!

For example…consider planting seeds that grow fruit.

The belief is like the seed and the results are the fruit. Many of us are trying to grow fruit (aka get results) by planting a branch…instead of planting seeds of belief that lead to new grow of it’s respective fruit.

You cannot outperform the level of your mindset and identity

Consider how your cruise control in your car works. If it’s set to 70mph it won’t let you go much faster or slower than that speed. Even if you drive downhill or uphill, the car may temporarily go faster or slower but will always go back to the speed it’s set at. The mindset/identity and beliefs you have is what sets the speed! The only way to level up the speed…aka the results…you have to level up the mind!

Beliefs determine Behaviors.

Your beliefs determine your behavior…which determine your results!

To change your beliefs you must work on it. You must have a personal development plan…a way to develop, grow and strengthen your mindset.

You have to change the story you tell yourself about you…in order for you to write a different story in the future!

My Question to you…

Do you have a personal development plan?

You change your beliefs with what you consistently input into your head.

  • What do you consistently listen to?
  • What do you consistently read?
  • What do you consistently watch?

When you change your mind, you will change your life…but if you don’t believe this concept of person development…then it will never work!

ACTION PLAN:

Develop a personal growth plan:

  1. Consistency:
    1. Needs to be daily. Pour into yourself (i.e. read, listen, or watch) daily in order to help you move the results cruise control speed.
  2. Comprehensive
    1. Look at each area of life and determine where you need the most growth and development in
    2. You can never go wrong with mindset and identity development/discovery
  3. Christ-influenced
    1. The Bible is the best personal growth and development book that exists
    2. Build a personal relationship with God and believe what he says about you. You then actually behave in such a way that you CAN do all things, because the God of all things lives within you!
    3. Your potential becomes limitless…since God has no limits!

If you believe what I’m discussing…your life will change. But you have to believe it. If you don’t believe it, your behavior will show it. BELIEVE what I’m telling you. The reason why most people don’t consistently stick with it is because they don’t get immediate results. This is why it’s called FAITH!!!! Faith is your biggest contributor to your results!!

THE CHALLENGE:

Have you ever struggled with perfectionism or feeling like no matter how well you do something…it seems like it’s not quite good enough? Do you ever place a large amount of pressure and stress on yourself to perform at a high level and you find yourself beating yourself up when you don’t achieve?? Do you ever feel that you can never meet a certain standard you’ve set for yourself?

I’ve struggled with this idea of self-doubt, feeling like I’m not good enough, and having to achieve more in order to prove my worth and value as a man…and beating myself up when I don’t achieve “up to par”.

As men we all have a need for validation. The definition of validation is…”the act of affirming a person, or their ideas, feelings, actions, as acceptable and worthy”. Every man, including you desires to be affirmed and to feel as acceptable and worthy. Validation is what defines our self-worth and value.

THE PROBLEM: “External Validation” (aka Kryptonite)

Validation is needed and good, but only if it is coming from the right place and is not dependent on something external from us or outside of our control.

More often than not, we seek validation from and depend on validation from the wrong places…from things that are external from us.

-This becomes a setup for dependence on something (similar to an addict dependent on drugs or alcohol)

  • This becomes a setup for future crisis. If we become dependent on the validation, and it leaves, then so does our value & worth

-Top 3 things men receive external validation from:

  • Success
    • Success becomes a way to soothe our own underlying insecurities. We strive for success in order to validate our worth and value instead of knowing our own intrinsic value and creating success from it. If we don’t achieve our goal or fall short, we end up feeling shame and self-doubt which shows up by beating ourselves up.
  • Status
    • Status and influence becomes something we chase in order to feel better about ourselves. The titles and followers, and likes we use to help define our significance. If we don’t get the status, again we will often beat ourselves up OR do anything to get more status…even compromising our character.
  • Sex
    • We often times use sex as a way to be validated. We unfortunately feel like ‘conquering another woman’ or performing well in bed will contribute to our feeling of worth and being masculine. This leads to troubled relationships and adultery, because you continue to use what should be an intimate experience as a way to soothe insecurities.

Our identity (how we define ourselves) is closely linked to what we get validated by most!!

For example, If you are dependent on success as a means of validation, then you will self-identify as a success ONLY IF you succeed at your goal. Unfortunately, the opposite will destroy your self-perception. Meaning, if you don’t succeed or not actively succeeding…then you’ll identify yourself as a failure.

Ways to determine if you are becoming addicted/dependent on some external validation

  • You beat yourself up
    • Feel like a failure if you aren’t succeeding at something
  • Succeed at any cost
    • Compromise your character in order to get the success, status, or sex
  • Perfectionism
    • Feel like things have to be perfect, and if they aren’t you take mistakes very personal

How to Turn Kryptonite into Cure

SOLUTION:

  1. RECOGNIZE the things you are dependent on for validation:

    1. Ask yourself: “Do I get caught up more with how this makes ME feel or how it will help someone else feel??”
      1. Success: Are you more focused on what you receive from success, as opposed to the service others recieve?
      2. Sex: Are you focused more on how it will make you feel vs how it will make your spouse feel
  2. Status: Are you more focused on achieving the title and influence vs. the people that you help to earn the status?

  3. RECEIVE validation PRIMARILY FROM YOUR IDENTITY as a Son of God

    1. What does God say about you?
      1. Made in the image and likeness of God
      2. Fearfully & Wonderfully made
  4. More than a conquer

  5. Able to do all things through Christ’s strength

  6. This doesn’t change!!

  7. This is truth
  8. This sets you up to CREATE success, elevate influence, and improve relationships (fruit) instead of CRAVING those things to prove you have value…because you now KNOW who you are!

  9. Remind others of the same thing

    1. Help others see the same in themselves and it will be reinforced in you.

ACTION ITEM:

Daily remind yourself of who God says you are. His creation and your identity in him validates you!

The result? There will be no circumstance that can stop you! You’ll become unstoppable and unbreakable!

THE CHALLENGE:

We don’t have enough time in our day to get the tasks done that we want to in order to achieve our goals. It seems as though we just don’t have enough time to get things done. Ultimately, we are trying to maximize our time to get as much done as we can in our day. The more we get done, the sooner we can achieve our goals.

But, we only get 24hrs in our day, and much of it is accounted for…

  • Sleep accounts for some of it (approx. 6-8 hours)
  • Getting ready, showering, bathroom
  • Eating
  • Family time
  • Working out

And the remainder of the time we have is working on our professional goals within our career or business.

Ideally, we are trying to be efficient AND effective…that’s the formula for productivity.

Productivity = Efficiency + Effectiveness

Being efficient is doing a lot of work in a short period of time.

Being effective is working on the right task that will bring about the greatest result.

Efficiency often requires more work…AND…Effectiveness often requires more thought.

For example…

Being efficient is being able to read a lot in a short period of time.

Being Effective is reading the right book for what you are trying to learn.

Being efficient is running really fast

Being effective is running in the right lane or the right direction

We all get the same 24 hours. But some individuals who are high performers can get A WHOLE LOT more done with their 24hrs than others…and make it seem effortless.

So it begs the questions…

How do we get more done in our day?

How do we maximize the time we have to get the most out of our 24hrs?

THE PROBLEM:

Most of us believe that if we work harder we will get more done in our day. Basically, in regards to the formula for productivity we focus on efficiency. I once thought the same way.

This is how we think…”How can I get more work done in less time?”

  • The reason we like focusing on efficiency is because we like getting stuff done. It makes us feel better about ourselves. We feel accomplished when we do work. We like the feeling of doing something.
  • That turns into less sleep, and stealing away time from things that matter…faith, family time, fitness
  • Therefore we end up tired and frustrated, but we got more done…but it came at too much of a cost

Does this sound familiar? This was exactly how I once thought and performed.

However…I learned one of THE MOST IMPORTANT keys to being more productive in my day and life…

THE SOLUTION:

I learned that even though efficiency is the more glamorous & glorious part of the equation to productivity…but it’s not the greatest part of the equation.

Effectiveness is greater than Efficiency

I’m all about working and getting a lot done…but the question is, “Am I working on the right thing?” “Are YOU working on the right thing?” “Are YOU running in the right direction??”

For example…

You might be doing a lot of networking, but are you meeting the right people?

You might be working out a lot, but are you doing the right exercises?

You might be working hard on your business, but are you working on the right thing for your business?

Effectiveness requires less doing…and more thinking. But thinking isn’t glamorous! Nike says “Just do it” not “Just think about it”

The world would have you believe that you have to grind and hustle your way to the top…which is only part of the equation for productivity and success. If you are a high-achiever…typically your problem is not doing…it’s not thinking enough!

Abraham Lincoln summed it up perfect in this quote: “Give me 6 hrs to chop down a tree and I’ll spend the first 4 hrs sharpening the axe”

Thinking means…

  • Slowing down
  • Sitting down long enough to ask the right questions
  • Setting aside/Scheduling time to think
  • Stop DOING long enough to see if you are still heading in the right direction

Here’s why people don’t think more…

  • It means they have to actually slow down…We don’t like slowing down
  • It means facing your fear, swallowing your pride and humbling your ego, coming to a conclusion that you may actually be going in the wrong direction
  • It doesn’t seem cool or glamorous
  • Seems like nothing is getting done. It challenges our patience.

Benefits of thinking before doing:

  • Less Mistakes
  • Sooner wins
  • You get better at it!! You’ll get better at asking the right questions and get more efficient at being effective!!

My Story:

When I started creating daily and weekly space and time to thinking more…I was able to get more done, with less effort in each area of my life…by simply asking myself the right questions.

It was scary and nerve racking at first…but priceless and beneficial in its results.

Here’s the action I want you to take…

  1. Spend time daily trying to figure out what’s the best step to take toward achieving your goal
  2. Ask the same question once a week

Ultimately, here is what I want you to understand…

Think More, Do Less, Get More Done!

This is a topic I’ve been meaning to address for awhile. However, I have recently been very convicted to share, due to an overwhelming concern we may be placing our focus, and more importantly our dependence, on something that could be ultimately hindering our growth & development in our work and lives.

The reality is that we ALL want to live amazing lives…but I believe we are relying and depending on the wrong things and are ultimately going in the opposite direction of what will allow us to experience the amazing life we envision.

Here is what I know, and believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, because it is true…

Consistent & Close Relationship with God will make EVERY AREA of life better!

Relationship with God Will make you a better man and the man you are looking to be. Psalms 37:4 makes it very clear…

“Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart”

Very simply put…’delighting in the Lord’, means to build a healthy delightful relationship with the Lord…and you can expect life to get better (aka. the desires of your heart).

However, my concern is that people are NOT seeking RELATIONSHIP because they may be distracted by religion!!

I define religion as ‘the set of rules and regulations’ one must follow to be in ‘right standing’.

Example: Because I know how powerful relationship with God is…when I ask someone to describe their personal relationship with to me…they immediately reply with something related to their attendance to up church.

MY CONCERNS:

  1. People(including us men) are relying more on religion than we are relationship with God
  2. People(including us men) are missing out on the real transformative power of a close relationship with God

  3. There is a misconception, within many that believe in God, that in order to live a life of success, significance, impact, fulfillment and meaning, that it you find this outside of relationship with God

  4. Let me make this clear. When you have a consistent and close relationship with God, he becomes your…

    • Source of strength, energy, & fulfillment (providing endurance and happiness)
    • Secret to peak performance in your work and life (providing more productivity)
    • Solution to any problem or challenge you face (providing peace of mind)
  5. People live like their faith is a part or aspect of their life…instead of a way of life.

Therefore, this results in…

  • Many church goers…not a lot of Christ followers
  • Not enough examples of real men Christ followers for other men to model after

This idea of religion and traditional church vs relationship with God, what brought to my attention as a result of my personal story during the peak of the Covid pandemic in 2020. I noticed when the churches shut down, one of 2 things happened to peoples’ faith:

  1. It decreased because their faith was dependent on ‘traditional church’
  2. It increased because they learned how to build a more personal relationship with God that was NOT dependent on traditional church.

I experienced #2. And the more I developed a more personal relationship with God, I saw every area of my life (family, marriage, work, business, health) improve, including my ability to handle conflict and crisis.

THE CHALLENGE: Many are depending on church more than they are God

Traditionally we have associated our faith with (1)church attendance, (2)serving in the church, and (3)tithing to the church. Therefore…

  • Church has traditionally been perceived as the place where you go to worship God
  • Many believers view service as primarily taking place within the walls of the church
  • Tithing is associated with being a good ‘church goer’

We feel like we are doing what we need to do for the ‘faith part of our lives’, by checking those 3 boxes off of the list…and therefore believe we are doing what we need to do for our faith.

Yet unfortunately, many people still feel stress, depressed, unhappy, unfulfilled, life lacking meaning, don’t know our purpose, making bad decisions, can’t hit our goals, etc DESPITE checking off all the boxes of faith.

I once thought this exact same way…but here is what I discovered…

We often depend on religion and traditional church to replace the relationship God is seeking with us in order to transform us. Relationship is the answer…not religion and traditional church!

Don’t get me wrong...i’m not saying church is bad! However, what I am saying is that it doesn’t replace the thing that actually transforms you…it doesn’t replace what you are ultimately looking for and need!

Example:

Imagine being dehydrated. Water is what you need…water is what will rehydrate…water is the solution. However, if someone gave you orange juice instead…it would give you hydration, and maybe even some good flavor…but it IS NOT WATER! Don’t get it confused…relationship with God is the water you need for the dehydration of your spiritual life. And dehydration looks like stress, unfulfillment, vices, bad habits, etc.

Church as we know it…is supplement, not sustenance! Relationship with God is sustenance! Nothing replaces it!

MY STORY:

Once I realized this…my life drastically changed! I was no longer dependent on any place, event, or deed for a connected spiritual life. I became personally responsible for my faith and building this relationship as the foundation and sustenance for my life. This translated into showing up as a great husband to my wife, father to my children, leader at work, clarity in business & life…aka REAL LIFE CHANGE!

Nothing replaces relationship with God…not even church!

Spend DAILY TIME with God that is NOT DEPENDENT on anything but you and your time with Him. Build an actual relationship…I Dare you!! Watch what happens!

How to Make Your Success INEVITABLE!

Do you ever get frustrated when going after your dreams?

Have you ever felt like your goals and dreams just won’t happen and consider giving up on them?

I’ve been there! And I get it! Sometimes we can get pretty frustrated and disappointed on our road to our dreams.

However, I’ve discovered something VERY UNIQUE that gave me confidence to achieve my goals. As a matter of fact…there is almost an inevitability and predictability to your success. Yes…I said the word ‘Inevitable’! There is a way to nearly guarantee and secure the accomplishment of your future goal!

OUR CHALLENGE:

Typically, the way many of us see our goals as being far away, far removed, and separate from us. Therefore, we ‘go after’ our goals. It becomes an arduous struggle to get to a place or become a person that we don’t ultimately believe is who we are. So the pursuit of our goals includes a lot of stress and struggle because the internal belief of who we believe we are is completely different that who we want to become. Therefore, any challenge along the way toward our goal, actually confirms in our own mind that we ARE who we currently are, and NOT who we want to become.

The Result? Stress and a lack of achievement of our goals.

OUR SOLUTION:

However, what I’ve seen is that it’s actually more of a difference in mindset and perception that prevents us from achievement. The reality is that it’s not so much that we are far from our goals but that the way we see ourselves relative to the goals doesn’t help us achieve it.

There is a difference between…

Working FROM Success vs Working FOR Success

Working from Success says…

  • I AM, therefore it’s simply a matter of time
  • I AM an expression of who I believe I am, which is the person that is connected to the achievement of my goal
  • IT IS inevitable…I just have to continue working

You have to BE it…before you SEE it!

Working for Success says…

  • I’m not, I’m trying to become
  • I need to achieve the goal to prove and validate that I am the person I’m trying to become
  • I don’t know if it’s really going to happen

Think about a seed of an apple, and it’s inevitable future…an apple.

  • The seed of an apple…when planted will inevitably be an apple

Think about a caterpillar, and it’s inevitable future…a butterfly.

  • The caterpillar…when in the right environment will inevitably be a butterfly

THIS IS WORKING FROM SUCCESS!

Working FOR success is taking an unknown seed….planting it and hoping it turns into an apple.

Working FOR success is taking an inchworm and hoping it turns eventually into a butterfly

You inevitably develop into who you believe yourself to be!!

ACTION STEPS:

How to work FROM Success: (Think about a planting a seed)

  1. Define the seed.
    1. Who are you? Connect ‘who you are’ to your person who is connected to the achievement of your goal. You ARE NOW CURRENTLY MENTALLY the person who has accomplished your goal.
  2. Cultivate the seed. Place it in good soil.
    1. Place yourself in the right environment
      1. People: What kind of people are around you to help you be your best self. Encouraging and supportive people. People who can coach and guide you.
      2. Settings: Are you in the right places that are putting you in position to succeed?
    2. Water the seed.
      1. Consistent watering: Active pouring into yourself!
        1. Audios and Books: What books and audios are you consistently listening to?? I encourage you to ALWAYS be reading or listening to something that is strengthening your mind, faith, or knowledge.
      2. Expose it to the light.
        1. Expose that goal to God, aka…The Light
          1. Bring your goal to God! Discuss it with him. Include him into your goals and dreams
            1. This provides discernment and clarity on what decisions to make
            2. Relationship with God provides fulfillment. This way you don’t feel like you are IN NEED of your goal to be happy. You can pursue it with no pressure.
          2. Believe & Trust in God for the transformation & increase
            1. We can only plant the seed, cultivate, water it and put it into the light. However, the actual transformation is up to God…not YOU! Do what you can do, and let God do the rest! You are NOT responsible for the transformation…you are responsible for being obedient to YOUR PART (Steps 1-4 above)

“You end up chasing the high you imagine, instead of the fulfillment you actually need”

-Fredrick Bussey

Whaaaat?!?! Wow! This is SO true for so many of us!

One of our BIGGEST problems as men, is we have THE WRONG DEFINITION of success and a POOR MEASURING STICK for how we determine whether we are successful.

In this bonus podcast episode, I interview executive leadership coach, speaker, and author of the book Breaking Orbit: Rip Out the Regular by Unearthing the Power Within, Fredrick Douglas Bussey. I had the privilege of interviewing Fredrick during the virtual ELITE MEN Summit event, that I hosted back in December of 2020. In this interview he helps to redefine for us what success REALLY is!

Fredrick is one of the wisest men I know and he drops a TON of knowledge on this interview!

He breaks down why we, as high-achieving men, struggle with being successful in one area such as our business or career, but struggle in other areas of life and end up unfulfilled. He talks about how the ‘Definition of Manhood’ that many of us learn when we are younger is false, and how this false understanding of manhood puts us at great risk for unfulfillment and the overall neglect and poor relationships we see as fathers, husbands, and friends.

Fredrick says we end up “chasing the high we imagine, instead of the fulfillment we need”…SO GOOD, and SO TRUE!

One of my biggest takeaways from this interview was the 3 Laws of Giftedness. You’ve gotta hear his framework for your gifts! It will help you in ALL areas of life! Number 3 was my favorite!

Be sure to follow him on social media on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn: Fredrick Douglas Bussey

Enjoy!

Blessings,

Let me make this clear…

You are more than what you do for a living!!

Your identity is more and deeper than what you do for your career or business!

Fellas, ultimately, we are destroying ourselves because we are defining ourselves primarily by what we do for a living…instead of by the TRUTH OF WHO WE ARE!

Our identity is HOW we see and perceive ourselves…how we define ourselves. How we perceive ourselves has great impact on whether we have positive or negative self-esteem toward ourselves. This identity dictates how we show up in the world.

PROBLEM: WE IDENTIFY OURSELVES BASED ON OUR CAREER

  1. We often identify & define ourselves by what we do (i.e. doctor, lawyer, business owner, etc.), and how well we do it.

  2. If you were asked…”Who are you?” How would you answer? Often times our professional title is used to answer that question.

  3. When first meeting someone we often immediately talk about what we do. The first question after greeting someone and sharing our name is the question, “What do you do?”

  4. We connect our WORTH and VALUE to what we do and how well we do it

  5. We often automatically translate our level of success or failure within our career or business, to a measure of what our personal value and worth is.

  6. We often think…”Once I achieve this next career goal…then I’ll be happy”. This in essence is saying, “I will feel better about myself…I will feel of value and worth only AFTER I achieve this professional goal”.

Unfortunately, this dependence of our identity on our career is a setup for…

  1. Perpetual failure: In essence we never believe we are good enough because our worth will always be connected to the next goal we are in pursuit of and therefore only happy and fulfilled once we achieve it. That means the rest of the time while in pursuit of achieving the goal, you feel ‘less than’.
  2. An emotional rollercoaster: If (and only when) we achieve, then we are happy about ourselves. But if we don’t achieve, then we feel horrible about ourselves.
  3. Conditional self-worth: Your self-worth and self-esteem is completely conditional upon performance…which is false!! Your self-worth and value has NOTHING TO DO with your performance or achievement! You have intrinsic value that fuels your ability to achieve…not that achievement fuels your value.
  4. A lack of self-control: We can NOT control many circumstances that influence our results in life. Therefore, when we connect our value to our results, we are in essence connecting our value to things we have zero control over.

What I’ve found is that when our identity and value is tied to influences that are external from us, such as our job or titles, it creates what I call a conditional performance identity:

  • If I perform well…then I have a temporary positive self-esteem and value
  • If I don’t perform well…then I have a constant negative self-esteem and value

The challenge with this way of thinking is that our career, jobs, and businesses can change based on circumstances we have no control over (i.e. market changes, Covid, etc.) And if circumstances change the results within our career…then so does our identity and self-value.

Examples:

Professional sports

  • Post retirement identity issues: Athletes struggle with retirement because their identity was primarily defined by their career as an athlete. As the career retires, so does their identity and feeling of self-worth.
  • Career Anxiety & depression: When they don’t perform at a certain level, they will struggle mentally because their value and identity is tied to their level of performance.

This happens within our careers as well…but it just more on full display with professional sports.

SOLUTION: ANCHOR OUR IDENTITY ON SOMETHING FOUNDATIONAL THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE

Your identity is WHO YOU ARE…not What you do!!

Your identity should help you in ALL areas of life! Not just for your career!

Who you are is based on THE TRUTH who YOUR CREATOR says you are and the INTRINSIC UNIQUENESS AND VALUE YOU WERE BORN WITH.

You ARE…

  • A child of God: Therefore by definition you are
  • Royalty: You are a chosen child of The King
  • Capable: Made in the image and likeness of God himself
  • A Citizen of heaven: You are a representative of The Kingdom of Heaven
  • Great: God is great, and the Spirit of God is IN YOU…therefore you are great
  • Complete: You are already equipped with greateness. You don’t NEED anything to be great.

Therefore, you show up great, because your intrinsic value is great! You don’t need to prove your value by performing because you ALREADY ARE GREAT!

I envision God asking…”Who told you, that you were just a doctor…lawyer…business owner?”

When you come from this place of known intrinsic value and greatness…the pressure is off! You don’t have to perform to prove your worth or value. You can now create to the level of who your TRUE identity is, based off of who your creator says you are.

ACTION: DISCOVER WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE

Do some simple research. Google this phrase: “What does God say about who I am in the bible?”

Write down your top 3 things of what God says about who you are. Start telling yourself this daily to remind yourself about who you really are and your true identity!

THE CHALLENGE: MAKING CRITICAL DECISIONS

Do you have a system for making critical decisions?

Every single day we are faced with making lots of different decisions

  • Decisions within our career and businesses
  • Decisions within our marriage and family
  • Decisions for our health
  • etc

Ultimately our decisions determine our destiny

Depending on the decision…the outcome can go left or right…good or bad…favorable or unfavorable.

  • If I decide to marry my wife…life looks different
  • If I decide a different career…life looks different
  • If I decide to hit the snooze button…I’m late for work…
  • If I decide to not workout or decide to eat something unhealth…then there’s a different future than if I do…

Therefore, the decisions we make are EXTREMELY important! They determine our destiny.

So with that said…

  • How do you make decisions such that, given the same circumstances, no matter the outcome, you would make the same decision again?

  • How do you create consistency in your decision making to reflect where it is you want to go in life?

  • How do you make decisions that are congruent with how you want life to be?

  • How do you make decisions that you would never ever regret?

THE PROBLEM: A CURRENT UNRELIABLE SYSTEM FOR DECISION-MAKING

One of the ways many of us make decisions is seeking the wisdom and opinion of others. We come to a crossroad and try to see what decision other people (people who hopefully have wisdom to offer wise suggestions) would make given the same situation.

There is certainly benefits to gaining the wisdom of others, but it does present a challenge. We are trying to make a decision based off of what a completely different person would do, but standing in your shoes. This presents a challenge because of the nuances of the situation and differences of personality. If we strictly use the opinions of others…we may regret the decision if things don’t go as we desired. Ultimately, the opinions of others is good to gather information of ideas or perspectives that maybe you haven’t considered in making your.

THE SOLUTIONS: CORE VALUES

What I’ve found is that…the wisdom of others helps me gather information to make a decision, but the most effective practice for making a decision I won’t regret and is congruent with where I want to go is…

Using my Core Values as a Compass for my Decision Making

My definition of Core Values: The central ideas, principles, and/or standards that your life is guided by

Benefits of having a set of core values:

  • They set a true north, like a compass, to ensure decision making will ultimately stay consistent with the destination of your goals – Keeps you going in the right direction
  • It adds power to your decisions by making them more definitive and without ambiguity
  • Allows you to know what to say ‘NO’ to
  • Encourages action: If your core values are being compromised then it encourages (1) a needed critical conversation, (2) ideas for change, or (3) decision to leave!

Examples:

  • I was recently invited to be on the board of directors of a local non-profit…aka a critical decision. However, because of my core values it was easy for me to say yes to the opportunity.
  • However, I was also recently invited to be part of a real estate project. It would have taken more time and energy and was not currently in alignment with my core values. Therefore it was easy to say, “no thank you”.

(Nugget: Getting good at saying no to the right things is JUST AS, IF NOT MORE important than knowing what to say yes to)

ACTION: CREATING YOUR CORE VALUES

How to Make a list of core values:

  1. A good number is between 4-7 Core Values
  2. Write down a longer list
    1. What values really matter to you?
    2. What principles of life do you value?
    3. How do you want life to look? What values need to be in place to get there?
  3. Narrow it down to 4-7
  4. Write them down and put them in a place where you will see them consistently (memorize them)
  5. Do it with your family and your business

Last question: Are your core values in line with your faith?? Your Faith should influence your core values.

My Core Values:

  • Live as a reflection of God and Jesus Christ
  • Embrace God’s Will Over My Own
  • Relationships over results
  • I am 4th (1.God, 2.Family, 3.Employees/Patients/Clients, 4.Me)
  • Love and serve others unconditionally with looking for nothing in return
  • Consistency

This will simplify and standardize your decisions to ensure that life is navigated toward how you want it to actually be…and avoid regretting decisions.

I know you have BIG goals that you are excited about! I’m talking about the BIG ones!! The visions, the dreams, and the hopes that are almost SCARY when you think about them! I get it! I have those same ones.

Here is what typically happens…

  • We get excited about our goals and dreams…
  • We write them down
  • We start going after them

And we think that the biggest challenge to achieving our goal is the hard work & consistency of doing the actual tasks that will help us achieve the goal.

Therefore, we invest our time, money, and energy toward things that help us with those tasks

For example:

  • Health goals à Get Gym membership
  • Business goals à Purchase and take an online course or conference
  • Career goals à Development of new skills
  • Husband & Fatherhood à Spend more time with wife & family

But how many times have you tried the NEW THING or some NEW TASK that sounds like it’s supposed to work…and then results never change?? OR it only changes temporarily??

Trust me…I’m not saying these tasks and behaviors are not important, because they are…HOWEVER…what I’ve found is that it IS NOT THE TASKS AND BEHAVIORS that are your greatest challenge in achieving your goals.

The greatest challenge you have in achieving your goals is NOT GETTING BETTER…it is BELIEVING BETTER!!

  • It’s believing enough to get started, but also believing enough to continue when everything around you says…it ain’t possible!!

Remember the ‘success sequence’ and embed it in your memory:

Beliefs à Thoughts à Feelings à Actions/Behaviors à Results

We are trying to change our results by changing our behaviors only. And the reality is, we aren’t going back deep enough into the success sequence to create new lasting change. To create new results you have to have new belief…not just new behaviors! The new belief will translate into new behaviors which will eventually turn into new results. The beliefs that go in are the results that come out!

Also, consider this. Typically, the way our internal beliefs are formed is by our external environment. Our external environment includes everything around us including (1) people around us, (2) things we watch and listen to, and a HUGE one is (3) our current results. Our current results, which are often not where we want to be, is constantly convincing us that WE ARE OUR CURRENT RESULTS! Our current results, shape our internal belief and identity. For example, if you currently earn a certain income, but want to make more, then your current income is shaping your mind to believe that you ARE your current income…and therefore leading to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep you at that income.

The good news is that your mind and the beliefs you have are equally influenced by your internal environment, just as strong and effective as your external environment. Your internal environment includes (1) things you tell yourself, (2) memories, (3) new intentional directed thoughts. Therefore, you can literally direct your thoughts to create beliefs that will lead to new behaviors and new results!

However, your greatest challenge is maintaining the thoughts that create a belief that is consistent with the goals you are pursuing…when EVERYTHING AROUND IS TRYING TO CONVINCE YOU THAT YOU ARE YOUR CURRENT RESULTS!

I’m here to tell you…YOU ARE NOT YOUR CURRENT RESULTS! YOU ARE YOUR FUTURE GOAL!!

For example…I was once a night owl. I HATED getting up early. However, I needed to change my routine. I did everything I could to switch my habits from night owl to early riser…bought books, set my alarm earlier, etc. But it wouldn’t happen. Not until I started working on a new belief, by directing my thoughts toward believing I was an early riser…did I change. I now get up consistently between 5-6am and get more done in my day. NEW BELIEF = NEW RESULTS

Here are some steps you can practice to start building a new belief:

  1. Train the brain
    1. Write an affirmation (start with 1…whatever your greatest goal is):
      1. Begin the affirmation with the words…”I AM __________” and fill in the blank with the vision you have of yourself. (i.e. I AM a millionaire, I AM in great shape, I AM a great & loving husband, etc.)
    2. Reinforce the affirmation:
      1. “I AM the type of man who _________”. Fill in the blank with behaviors that the person described in your affirmation would do. (i.e. I am the type of person that calls more clients…that works out 3 times a week…etc.
    3. Say the affirmations daily multiple times a day
      1. Believe what you say. Envision and experience the future achieved goal when you say the affirmations and reinforcements. Connect emotionally with your goal and FEEL it happening!
    4. Create a positive external environment
      1. What are you listening to?? Listen to things that inspire and help solidify your beliefs…like this podcast J

Stay consistent with these actions to create a new internal environment and watch what happens! But remember…your toughest challenge will be actually believing it. Stay consistent and you’ll get better…and so will your results!

How To Get More Time To Achieve Your Goals

I can remember struggling with having a lack of time in my day. I was so busy that it seemed like I didn’t have time for everything…including my faith, my family, or my fitness.

Have you ever felt like “If I just had more time in the day”.

For example…

  • You have a goal of losing more weight, but don’t have enough time in the day
  • You want to spend time growing in your faith, but don’t have enough time in the day
  • You want to start a business, but don’t have enough time in the day

Trust me, I get it! I’ve been there before.

Here is what typically happens…

We believe we don’t have enough time in the day. The thought is, ‘if I add more tasks to my plate (even if its tasks getting you closer to goals you care about) then it’s going to take away from the areas of my life of importance’…which is typically work. Then you become overwhelmed and stressed just simply thinking about putting something new on your plate. As a result, you talk yourself out of going after certain goals…and don’t take action.

Therefore, no action = no results

No action in our faith means continued worry and stress

No action with our family and spouses means poor relationships

No action in our fitness means poor health

No action toward our finances means lack of future wealth

I thought this way for a LONG TIME! However, I’ve come to realize that it’s not so much that we DON’T HAVE TIME, but more that we have a MISCONCEPTION of HOW WE SEE TIME.

What I’ve found out is that we look more at time as spending time…as opposed to investing time

By looking at our time more as an investment of time…we can see how investing time toward our goals now, can prevent us from losing more time later because of neglecting our goals.

Look at it this way…You are going to have to pay with time NO MATTER WHAT!

You can invest in a relationship with God now, so you aren’t paying for the stress and anxiety later…

You can invest in your marriage and children now, so you aren’t paying for it in a divorce and poor relationship later…

You can invest in your fitness now, so you aren’t paying later for it in the form of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart issues later…

You get the picture: Invest now…or Pay for it later!

Too many of us are putting our goals on credit…trying to not pay now, but paying it back with interest later…and then regretting never investing the upfront time.

When I finally understood this concept, it had dramatic effects in my life…

For example…

  • I started slowly investing some time toward my faith & relationship with God…and my return of investment (ROI) was peace of mind and high performance
  • I started slowly investing some time toward my family…and my ROI was great relationships, fulfillment, and actually more time to spend on my work and projects since my family was now happy.
  • I started slowly investing some time toward my health, and my ROI was feeling great & having more energy
  • I started slowly investing some time toward my finances, and my ROI was getting closer to my financial goals

The reality is… You’ve gotta put reps in!

In order to improve or grow in anything…you must put reps in…PERIOD!

In order to put reps in, there MUST BE CONSISTENT SPACE & TIME DEDICATED to doing the reps.

Without creating space and time to put the reps in…then you have no shot at seeing change in your results!

In order to create space and time you have to do 2 things:

  1. SLOW DOWN!!
    1. You MUST slow down long enough to (1) stop, (2) think, (3) strategize
  2. Ask “How”
    1. After stopping and slowing down you have to then ask yourself this question, “HOW can I find the time?” By asking this ‘How-To Question’, it will trigger the mind to figure out a solution instead of immediately saying…”I don’t have the time”
  3. Honor the time.
    1. Once you figure out how you’ll find the time…then put it on your calendar, and HONOR IT!
    2. Once you find the time to invest in your faith…honor it! Once you find the time to invest in your family…honor it! Etc.

Here are the steps to creating more time:

  1. Slow down
  2. Ask How
  3. Put it on the calendar
  4. Honor the time

Do this for each of these pillars of life: Your Faith, Your Family, Your Health, Your Wealth, Your Career

But here is the GREATEST & MOST IMPORTANT PILLAR OF LIFE TO INVEST YOUR TIME, that will have THE MOST RETURN OF IMPACT ON EVERY OTHER AREA OF LIFE…

YOUR FAITH…aka YOUR PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Imagine investing your time in this relationship and experiencing more success and fulfillment in your life!

10 minutes of quality time spent with God, is more effective than 10 hours trying to work do life without Him.

As always, if you need help with finding more time OR strengthening your faith by building a more solid relationship with God…I’m here.

“The life we want to live, is currently above the level of identity we are operating at”

-Anthony Trucks

BOOM!!! Mic drop!!

This is the concept that Anthony Trucks uses to help individuals become aware of the identity shift needed to match the results they desire in life. I had the privilege of interviewing Anthony Trucks during the virtual ELITE MEN Summit event, that I hosted back in December of 2020.

Anthony is a former NFL athlete, Founder of Identity Shift Coaching, International speaker & podcast host. He is a phenomenal human being with a heart of gold to help people use the power of identity to achieve their dreams.

Our interview was so well received during the virtual summit…that I decided to replay it on the podcast for everyone’s benefit…and trust me, it is WORTH THE LISTEN!

This interview is JAM PACKED with VALUE! He shares his story of how he went from a successful yet unfulfilled entrepreneur that was stuck in both his personal life & business…to tremendously fulfilled and more successful in all areas of life by using ‘The Shift Method’. He describes The Shift Method in detail and breaks down how YOU TOO can do the same thing to become the man you want to be.

One of the biggest ideas we discuss is this concept that the life you want to live is currently beyond the identity that you currently have for yourself. However, there’s a way to shift your identity and therefore your results in life…through the SEE – SHIFT – SUSTAIN model.

Make sure you follow him on social media: @anthonytrucks

Have you ever had a bad habit…something that you knew would not benefit you or help you in any way, yet you do it anyway? Or maybe it’s something that you need to do, but for some reason you avoid doing it?

These are BAD HABITS! And this is something I can definitely relate to. We all have bad habits…It doesn’t matter who you are, you have one (or some).

For example, I have a bad habit of procrastination. If there is something I know I’m scheduled to work on, but not in the mood to do it…I’ll procrastinate by spending time doing something else that doesn’t help me reach my goals. For example, when it’s time for me to create more podcast & YouTube content, but I’m not in the mood, then I’ll find something…ANYTHING to do…even do the dishes of all things, just to avoid the work I scheduled to finish.

A friend of mine was sharing how watching SportsCenter on ESPN is a bad habit b/c, by watching it, he fails to fully engage with his wife…particularly during times when he knows his time can be better spent with his spouse.

This is true in all areas of our lives, right? For example:

Our Faith: We know in order to grow in our faith, that we need to pray and spend time with God…but we don’t

Our Family lives: We know in order to have a healthy marriage and relationship with our kids, we need to spend consistent & quality time with them…but we don’t

Our health: We know in order to live more healthy lives, we need to consistently workout and have better nutrition…but we don’t

Our wealth: We know in order to achieve our financial goals, we need to be more wise with our spending…but we don’t

I can go on and on…you get the point.

So this begs the question…

Why do we do things that we know we aren’t supposed to do?

Why do we do things that we know are not beneficial for us?

To answer this question, we’ve gotta understand WHY this question is so important.

The reason this topic is so important is because our habits, whether good or bad, heavily influence our results in our work and life. Therefore, our results in any area of our lives WILL NOT CHANGE if our habits STAY THE SAME.

Our faith and level of fulfillment won’t change if we don’t habitually pray…

Our relationships won’t change if we don’t habitually invest our time and presence in them…

Our health won’t change if we don’t habitually work out & eat better…

Our wealth won’t change if we don’t habitually save more…

Our career or business won’t change if we don’t habitually put in the work.

So let’s breakdown how bad habits are formed:

  1. We are emotional beings that are always trying to either (1) avoid negative or painful feelings or (2) pursue a desirable good or pleasurable feeling.

  2. Bad habits are often birthed out of a desire to escape from a negative feeling or emotion!!

  3. These negative feelings & emotions include: fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, frustration, stress, overwhelmed, guilt, shame, self-doubt, worry

  4. These emotions develop in response to life experiences…which are broken down into internal (thoughts of past) or external (events)

This is the sequence:

Experience(Trigger) à Emotion (Feeling) à Escape (Bad habit)

Therefore, The escape, aka the bad habit, is simply a temporary external bandaid to an internal emotional bleeding wound

Here are a host of different Escapes…aka Bad Habits:

  • Internet
  • Gambling
  • Women
  • TV
  • Food
  • Drugs & alcohol
  • Work
  • Procrastination

The bad habit is the escape…the bad habit is the bandaid.

Question: Can you cure internal bleeding with an external Band-Aid on the skin?? NO!!!

Then the cycle of bad habit begins because now you feel bad that you didn’t do what you were supposed to do in the first place….and therefore go right back to the escape to run from the negative feeling…

Now a new Identity is formed because you begin to play a new narrative in your mind. You begin having thoughts that sound like this…

  • “God doesn’t care about me…”
  • “I’m a bad person”
  • “I’m not a good husband”
  • “I can’t lose the weight”
  • “I’ll never overcome my struggle”
  • …and a host of other negative thoughts that reinforce the bad habits

Here is THE BIGGEST STEP that you can take to BREAK YOUR BAD HABIT:

SELF AWARENESS!!

You’ve got to become more self-aware of your habit, and the thoughts and emotions connected to them. Once you become self-aware, you can then begin to eliminate the bad habit. But self-awareness is the first step…nothing changes without it.

Here are the steps to become self-aware:

Step 1. Create time & space:

  • Take 20min to dedicate to doing this exercise

Step 2. Identity the worst habit or addiction you have that you want to change:

  • Choose only one bad habit. Work on one at a time.

Step 3. Identify the feeling/emotion you have around the time that you are doing the bad habit

  • Answer these questions:
    • “How do I feel just before deciding to do the bad habit?”
    • “What am I escaping from that leads me to the bad habit?”

Step 4. Identify the trigger that causes that emotion

  • Answer this question:
    • “What are the consistent triggers that leads me to do the bad habit?”

Now here is the solution!

Step 5. Manage the negative emotion that you are trying to escape.

  • Build a relationship with God: Spend consistent time with him
    • Remember what he says about you!
      • You are fearfully and wonderfully made
      • You can do all things through Him who strengthens you
    • Rely on this relationship as your primary source of satisfaction & fulfillment
      • The relationship with God is ALL YOU NEED! You don’t need any external thing from you, or any bad habit to satisfy you. When your cup is full, you won’t need to fill it with anything else

Listen,

I really want you to practice this…for real!! This will be a life-changer. Consider what life would be like with your greatest bad habit behind you!! REALLY IMAGINE IT!! It’s possible, and it’s real!

As always, if I can help you with breaking that habit…don’t hesitate to reach out!

Your struggle IS NOT meant to last forever

Have you ever felt like you’ve been struggling with a certain challenge for a long time, and seems like nothing is changing?

Here’s what I NEED you to know…

Whatever your current struggle is…it IS NOT meant to last forever…

Your struggle is meant to LEARN & GROW from…not last forever!!

If there is a struggle in your life that seems to be lasting really long time, then I’m going to challenge you to begin asking yourself this question…

“What have I yet to learn or grow from in the midst of this challenge in my life?”

For example:

Remember the video game Super Mario Bros? There would be circumstances where I would get stuck and couldn’t move on to the next level. There was something I hadn’t learned or a task I hadn’t done on that level that was preventing me to move on to the next level.

Also think about working out or weight training in the gym. In order to lift more weight and get stronger, you have to be able to eventually grow and eventually master a certain pound of weight before you can increase the weight.

Our struggles and challenges of life are no different. We must GROW THROUGH, and not just GO THROUGH the struggles of life…in order to get to the next level.

Listen, I completely get it…I’ve struggled with:

  • Being a loving husband that respected my wife
  • Anger as a father
  • Forgiveness of others
  • Being out of shape
  • Building quality trustworthy relationships
  • Feeling stuck

Thank God, I was able to eventually grow past these hurdles in my life. It was not overnight, but it was worth learning and applying new ideas to my life so I could grow through my challenges and not remain stuck.

Therefore, I’d like to offer 5 key principles to understand to help you get past your current greatest struggle:

  1. You are at your optimum performance the closer in relationship you are with God

Getting unstuck and growing past your challenge requires you be at your best performance. A high-performance car requires high-performance fuel and maintenance. Without God, it’s like putting old oil and regular unleaded in a Ferrari…it won’t perform at it’s best.

  1. This whole life is designed to either get closer to God and grow and improve, or get further away and stay stuck and unfulfilled.

Think about a doctor-patient relationship. If a patient is ill (aka stuck and struggling), and they refuse to go to the doctor, then they will continue to struggle and not improve. However, as soon as they establish a consistent healthy relationship with the doctor…they can get better and improve. This is no different in our lives without struggle. The more we put off going to the doctor of our lives…aka God, the longer the struggle will take to improve.

  1. God has been chasing you this entire time to be in relationship…and the sooner you take his hand…the sooner you can see things change. He wants you to depend on him instead of you depending on you!

God knows what he is capable of, and what your limits are. Therefore, he’s always with you waiting with his hand out, offering his help. However, it requires us to put our pride to the side and accept his help. It’s THE BEST decision we can make.

  1. Be reminded of your TRUE IDENTITY.

Often times we forget who we are OR have never understood who it is we REALLY are. Typically we define our identity by something external to us. For example, we define ourselves by our occupation, our title, status, or level of success. Your TRUE identity is defined by God. You are MORE THAN A CONQUEROR! You are FEARFULLY & WONDERFULLY MADE! You are made in the IMAGE & LIKENESS OF GOD! Therefore, you are more than equipped to overcome and grow through whatever struggle you are facing.

  1. The rate of your transformation is directly tied to how soon you reach out and receive help.

You were not meant to do life alone! Typically we, as high-achieving men, look at reaching out for help as a sign of weakness. This is not true! Reaching out for help is a sign of WISDOM! And the sooner you do, the sooner you will be on the road to more success and fulfillment in life.

So, here’s what I want you to do. I want you to make a decision. Decide to embrace and establish the greatest relationship that will be directly related to you being your VERY BEST SELF in ALL AREAS OF WORK & LIFE! Decide to start building a relationship with God, And decide NOW!

If I can help you form that relationship…don’t hesitate to reach out!

Have you ever felt like your goals are so far away?

Or

Does it seem like the vision of who you want to be is far away?

Believe it or not…this way of thinking will ultimately hurt you…and today we will talk about THE RIGHT MINDSET to have to win in ANY area of life!

Let’s define what I mean by this ‘flawed mindset’. I’m talking about the mindset that you are striving to achieve something that you currently don’t have or be someone that you are currently not.

I used to think this way. I thought I was so far removed from who I was and what I wanted to achieve.

Therefore it was a struggle to…

  • Be a better father
  • Be a better husband
  • Be in great shape
  • Be closer to God
  • Be successful in my career as a doctor
  • Be a great speaker
  • Be fulfilled

I saw myself as a failure or underachiever in those areas because the way I had currently viewed myself was so different than how I wanted to be. Therefore, everyday was a consistent reminder of WHO I WASN’T.

The reality is this…

How you see yourself, is how you’ll be yourself!!

Basically, this means that in order for you to become the person you want to be…you MUST FIRST IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS THAT PERSON! You have to BE IT, before you BECOME IT!

Here is the difference between (1)‘striving to be something you currently are not’ versus (2)‘being the person you want to become’:

  1. In (1) you are trying to be something I’m currently not
  2. In (2) it’s understanding that you currently ARE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BECOME, but just not expressing it yet.

Here are a couple of analogies to help you understand the concept:

  • ART:
    • Within a slab of stone is a future sculptured masterpiece. It lives beneath and within the stone, but eventually gets expressed with time and work.
  • BUTTERFLY:
    • Just because a caterpillar doesn’t have wings, doesn’t mean it’s not a future beautiful butterfly that flies. It’s simply a matter of time and transformation.
  • FROG:
    • A tadpole has no legs and looks like a fish but is undoubtedly a future frog that can leap ridiculous lengths relative to its size. It’s just a matter of time and transformation
  • DOCTOR:
    • I had to believe I was a doctor before I was a doctor. Therefore, it was simply a matter of time, work, faith, and transformation to eventually express what I believed I was.

You must first understand this sequence:

  • BELIEFS (aka. How you identify yourself) lead to -> THOUGHTS that lead to -> FEELINGS that lead to -> ACTIONS that lead to -> OUTCOMES/RESULTS

Therefore…

Belief comes before Results!!!

Here’s what is awesome…

YOU WERE DESIGNED, BY GOD, TO BE EXTRAORDINARY!!

YOU WERE DESIGNED, BY GOD, TO BE A BEAST!!

YOU WERE DESIGNED, BY GOD, TO BE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR!!

YOU WERE DESIGNED, BY GOD, TO BE A WINNER!!

Here’s the problem:

  1. We’ve forgotten our identity!
    1. We were…YOU WERE created in God’s image and are fearfully and wonderfully made!
  2. We’ve forgotten that Christ is in us…is IN YOU!
    1. We can…YOU CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens you! (Phil 4:13)
  3. We have conformed to the way the world sees us instead of the way God sees us
    1. We are like Eagles amongst chickens. We were meant to fly and sour but have been convinced that we can’t fly and are restricted to the ground. Once you realize and accept who you REALLY are and what you are capable of, your potential will be realized!

Here is the goal we should all seek…

Attempt to see yourself as God sees you!!

Once you build this habit…you express the ELITE MAN that you have been made to be! However, this requires relationship with God. Prioritize relationship with God above all else…and experience life like NO ONE ELSE!!

Have you ever had an internal struggle (or maybe even have one now)…that NO ONE knows about…and it’s preventing you from reaching your full potential?? But you tell everyone that everything is ok…yet you continue to silently struggle?

This is what I refer to as…THE MASK!

Definition of ‘The Mask’: a well-decorated display of a hidden internal struggle

The Masks we wear are SILENT KILLERS!!

As a physician I’m familiar with certain diagnosis that are silent killers. For example, Hypertension (aka High Blood Pressure) is silent killer. You can’t see it, feel it, hear it or witness it. But it effects every organ and system in the body…and can ultimately result in death if left untreated. The masks we wear work the same way. They are silent…no one knows about the struggles we hide…but ultimately it’s killing our faith, relationships, and destroying our ability to live out or greatest potential.

Here are some examples of the masks we wear:

  • Faith: Attend church with a smile…yet distant in your relationship with God
  • Marriage: Happy couple pictures on Facebook…yet living a lustful lifestyle
  • Fatherhood: Attend kids sports events…yet an angry or otherwise absent father
  • Health: Saying you gonna get in shape…but struggling to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits
  • Wealth: Nice house, car, and vacations…yet struggling to make ends meet monthly
  • Career: Great job or business…but unfulfilled & failing to grow and advance

Listen!! I get it!! This was my story! I wore the mask of a successful doctor and business owner…happily married man with awesome children! But behind that mask was a man that was barely holding it together. I was winning in ONE area…my career. Beyond that, I was struggling in my faith, as a husband, as a father, and living far under my potential in my health. Add on top of that…I lacked clarity on what my purpose was in life.

The problem with the mask is that it causes…PROLONGED PAIN!!

It prolongs pain in 2 ways:

  • Pride: A false sense that you can ‘fix you’ all on your own, with no help
  • Persuasion: A false sense that “I’m not that bad off”

The mask does not protect you! The mask prevents you from growing and developing…by keeping you quiet and silent!

The mask is made to keep you quiet for several reasons:

  1. Influences you to feel like you are the only one to go through your type of struggle, and that nobody else is dealing with what you are dealing with
    • False! Plenty of men have a very similar struggle!
  2. Pressure to keep up with the Joneses and live the model life…The ‘Everything is Great and ain’t nothing wrong’ Life
    • The truth is…everyone is going through something!
  3. Worried about what other people think. Fueled by #2 above

THE SOLUTION: CONFIDENTIAL COMMUNICATION

Confidential communication is being able to discuss your issues with someone you can trust and without judgement and condemnation.

This allows you to take off the mask and stop being suffocated by it!! This is THE BEST step to take to safely remove the mask, overcome your struggle, and ultimately fulfilling your greatest potential!

Here are the steps to Confidential Communication:

  1. Surrender to the idea that you can ‘Fix You’ all on your own. Reach out for help.
    1. This is NOT WEAKNESS…IT’S WISDOM!!
  2. Share:
    1. Share with God your struggles and ask him for clarity and guidance
    2. Share with someone you trust to be vulnerable with and will not judge you!! Preferable someone who can provide some guidance as well.
  3. Do #1 and #2 regularly!!
    1. This is not a one-time process…this is part of a healthy high-performing lifestyle.

If you follow these steps, here is what you can expect: FREEDOM! And the path to fulfillment & growth to the person you were designed to be

Surrender and Share today!!! If I can help…hit me up. But regardless, share with someone!!

Have you ever felt like something was missing…despite the fact that you’ve experienced success in your career or business?

Or..

Ever feel like there is more to life that what your success has to offer?

I get it…

As a successful sports medicine physician and home-based business owner…I thought that would be enough to have me fulfilled. I thought, once succeed in my career and make a certain amount of money that I would have ‘made it’ and that it would bring with it a certain sustaining joy and satisfaction. But…I was wrong. As a result, I basically resorted to other things to try and be fulfilled (i.e. working harder, earned more money, went on vacations, spent more money…and more) and it never brought lasting fulfillment. As a matter of fact, it only drew me further from the things that mattered. I was further from God as I’d ever been, and was failing as a husband, father, and was not living up to my best potential.

However, things eventually changed. And as a result of doing this ONE THING…everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING in my life changed. My confidence, marriage, fatherhood, health, career, and clarity on my purpose…ALL drastically improved as a result of this ONE THING!

The ONE THING I’d missed and overlooked was…

A personal relationship with God.

And here’s the crazy thing…I didn’t know what that really meant despite going to church my whole life!

I was spiritually underdeveloped…I was like a baby that grew physically, but was developmentally delayed. Except in this instance I was spiritually developmentally delayed and had NO IDEA how much it was affecting my life.

There are 3 things I had to do and that I believe you can do as well, to build a relationship with God and begin to spiritually develop and experience lasting fulfillment:

  1. Come to the understanding that this relationship is what’s been the missing piece to getting unstuck

He’s been calling you the whole time, but we tend to resist…and focus on the shame of our poor decisions. You’ve felt it…and you know you’ve been away too long. It’s time to come back. He’s calling for you…and patiently waiting for you.

  1. Understand there’s a difference between religion and relationship.

Religion is the systematic routine and tradition of church. This IS NOT relationship and will never and should never take the place of a personal relationship with God.

Relationship on the other hand requires mind and heart. It requires more than just showing up once per week. It requires more than just presence, it requires attention! And just like any good relationship, it requires consistent intentional time invested toward it.

Your life is designed to be at its best when you are in close relationship with God. It’s like a relationship between an illness and its cure. An illness ceases to be an issue once it’s linked to its cure. The further from the cure, the more illness takes over.

  1. This often times requires the help of someone whose been down this path

Being able to reach to someone who knows what it’s like to have a great personal relationship with God will help you develop this relationship faster. They can give you insight…i.e. relationship advice with God…on how to build this healthy relationship you need.

So I invite you to have every aspect of your life improve by having a relationship that has possibly been resisted up to this point.

Make the decision…It’s time to develop the most important relationship you will EVER HAVE, so you can have a strong faith that will spawn future success and sustaining fulfillment in your life.

If I can help foster that relationship…let me know.

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail” – Benjamin Franklin

TRUTH!!

And this is true for our spiritual lives as well!! If you have ever felt like you are far away from where you want to be spiritually or like you are disconnected from your faith…then you have to ask yourself this question…

“What is my spiritual growth plan?”

PROBLEM: We lack a spiritual growth plan

We have a plan for so many things in our lives, including…

  • Retirement plan
  • Vacation plans
  • College fund plans
  • Dinner plans

You get the point. But unfortunately, THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of our lives we neglect to have a plan for…our spiritual growth and development. Without a spiritual growth plan we are planning to remain spiritually immature…which is unacceptable!

Remaining stuck is unacceptable!

Struggling with the same problems for years in unacceptable!

Not advancing in our relationship with God is unacceptable!

SOLUTION: 4 Components of a solid spiritual growth plan

Therefore, I want to share 4 components of a solid spiritual growth plan to help get you on the right path to developing a strong faith, making better decisions in life, and therefore winning at a high level in every area of life:

  1. Curriculum
    • Simply put, this is ‘structured information’. You must CONSISTENTLY learn more about God. This can be in the form of bible study, or a class, or even a podcast!! (including ELITE PerforMENce podcast)
  2. Coaching
    • You must learn from someone who has been down the path you plan to journey into. Preferably someone who has a plan and is CONSISTENTLY growing in his relationship with God.
  3. Community
    • You need a group of men that meet with some level of CONSISTENCY and regularity. This helps with support, encouragement and accountability.
  4. Confidential Communication
    • You need someone (or several people) AND a safe place and person who you feel comfortable with to share your dirt with…without a sense of judgment.

I can assure you…if you apply the principles discussed within today’s message…you WILL spiritually grow and drastically transform into living your best!

And I’M here to help!

Have you ever felt stuck and unfulfilled despite your success and achievement?

Have you ever felt like…”This can’t be it!”…when thinking about your life?

Listen man…I get it…

That was me for years! Outwardly successful doctor and business owner, but secretly stuck and unfulfilled. Was far from the man I’d always envisioned myself to be. Wasn’t the husband, father, doctor, business owner, or man of faith I knew I could be and was consistently making poor decisions that was keeping me breaking the cycle of unfulfillment and subpar performance in life.

THE PROBLEM:

In hindsight, I had 3 big problems that didn’t allow me to grow and develop into the person I’d always envisioned…and is often the same problem many high-achieving men have:

Problem #1: I didn’t know God.

Here’s the interesting part…I’d gone to church my whole life…but still didn’t REALLY know or have a relationship with God. I had a false sense of who he was and was unaware of

Problem #2: I didn’t know me.

My identity was defined by what I did (i.e. doctor, business owner, etc.) and my validation and worth was tied to whether I was winning or failing in those areas. Therefore, if I was a ‘success’ is things was going well and temporarily felt good about me…but if I was failing as a doctor or business owner, then my value and worth was defined as a failure.

Problem #3: I didn’t know how to get on the right path to fulfillment & success

I was clueless how to go about getting to the place where I was excelling in all areas of life instead of just my career and business.

THE SOLUTION:

Thanks to God and the ‘BIG 3 C’s of Change: Curriculum, Coaching, & Community…I was able to learn a blueprint to go from secretly stuck and unhappy to greater success & fulfillment than I ever thought possible. As a result of implementing this blueprint I’ve experienced change in every area of life:

  • Awesome relationship with children (better father)
