Hello friends, welcome to the Pinkleton Pullaside Podcast! In over 2 decades of past youth ministry my leaders and students poked fun at me when I would be in groups of people and peel off with one person to encourage and challenge (make better) it became known as a Pinkleton Pull-Aside. Sit back, grab a cup of coffee or head on that drive down the road and let’s lean in and get the good and the gold from authors, pastors, sports personalities and their influencers, leaders and followers. My name is Jeff Pinkleton, the executive director of The Gathering of the Miami Valley - we connect men to men and men to God.

In 2019, Kari Hoffmann's son, Landen, was thrown from the third-floor balcony of the largest mall in America—a 39-foot drop onto a concrete foundation. Medical professionals who happened to be at that exact place at that exact time found Landen lifeless—no breathing and no pulse. However Landen’s mother, Kari Hoffmann, immediately began praying and pleading for everyone in the mall to pray for her son.
What happened next was a series of breathtaking, science-defying miracles. Not only was Landen’s broken body revived back to life, but over the course of the next several months—as people all over the world prayed and fought in faith for this little boy—Landen made a full recovery.
After all of the worldwide media coverage, most people know at least part of this story. But what you probably don’t know is that God’s fingerprints are all over this story in many other amazing ways.

Leslie Weirich in her own words:
Life is full of highs and lows, and I’ve seen my share of both. I’ve had a successful career, married the love of my life and was blessed to be the mother to two beautiful children. But I’ve also known incredible loss. It was 2:30 in the morning on September 10th, 2016. I awoke to the doorbell ringing and the news that my 20-year-old son, Austin, had taken his life. It was the moment that changed everything.
Because of the unique circumstances surrounding our story, it would eventually capture the attention of national news. The response we received made me realize that our story is meant to be told. It has the power to save young lives and spare other parents the devastating loss we experienced. Telling our story to save others is what gets me up and going every single day. It’s my passion and has become my life’s work. I left my career as a successful financial recruiter and now speak to thousands of people across the country about suicide prevention –sharing our story and giving practical tools to build resilience. In addition to traveling and speaking, I work as a Suicide Prevention Specialist for the community mental health center serving two local counties, where we are transforming suicide prevention in schools.

Heather Parady in her own words:
The real story.
Here’s a little about my unconventional path: I grew up in Arkansas, was homeschooled my entire life, and played Mary, the mother of Jesus, in more church human videos than I can count. Originally, I wanted to go into full-time ministry (that’s what Southern Christian Bible Belt folks do, y’all). I even got ordained. But through a series of events, I realized that wasn’t the path for me. I still wanted to make a difference in the world, so I went to school to be a nurse. I almost failed A&P 1 (yes, the first class), switched to psychology, and eventually earned a master’s degree in it. Therapist? Done deal.
But then I stumbled into the online space, fell in love with media, and discovered the world of creativity. Ironically, I feel like I found my way back to God through the creative process. This time, there wasn’t a weird institution behind it—it was just a straight connection. After graduating and getting my license as a Therapist, I turned down three perfectly good job offers to see if I could build something on my own.
Along my journey, I’ve hosted several top-ranking shows (conducted over 1,000 interviews), been hired by Old Navy to create content for their socials, ran a podcast with over 1,000,000 downloads in 8 months, spoken on stages about creativity, and worked with over 50 brands on their storytelling and content creation journeys. I’m more convinced than ever that the way to make an impact in your work is to bring every single ounce of you to the table.
Unashamed. Unbashful. And lit UP. I also believe there’s something greater at work—and It can be trusted.

His ultimate goal would be to land significant roles in big budget films so that he can then win support to help produce/act in faith based films. Christ centered...and not ashamed.

About Renee Vidor:
You are more than just a parent, a spouse, an entrepreneur or an employee–you want your life to matter. You’ve been taught to make money, live with purpose, and make a difference…but it’s easier said than done, isn’t it? I know how you feel. Been there, done that and have learned so much.
Maybe you can relate with looking for your ‘passion’, putting it into a box and calling it your purpose, your career, or your way to have an impact in the world–but still struggling and feeling like you couldn’t quite measure up.
Years ago I was a young wife and mom doing the ‘work from home’ thing, striving to find meaning. While I was blessed to stay home with our two children, I felt alone and frustrated as I tried to figure out what I should do with my life.
That was me. But not anymore! After years of research, coaching, trials and failures, I finally realized that I was doing it all wrong–I was looking for what I was created to do before knowing who I was created to be.
When you learn who you were created to be, you are then empowered to grow into what you are created to do. Life becomes a journey full of adventure and excitement as you discover your way to implement impact, influence, and income.

Hey, y'all! I'm Lauren Sisler. I’m a former collegiate gymnast, an Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster, ESPN sideline reporter, author, and keynote speaker. Whether I’m on sidelines or on stages, my purpose lies in helping people tell (and love) their stories, live more courageous, resilient lives, and find their own sideline shimmies.
However, I didn’t always know how to own MY story. As an 18-year-old college student, I lost both of my parents to their hidden battle with prescription drug addiction within hours of each other — and I spent years and years living in the throes of grief, shame, and fear. I was devastated, I was angry, and I was confused… and it took a long time to find the courage and strength to stand up again.
When I finally learned to fall in love with my own story, I took hold of my shame — a universal feeling we all share — and repurposed it into something meaningful. Most importantly, I learned that I was (and am) shatterproof. And SO ARE YOU. Now, when I’m not reporting live from the sidelines, I’m taking the stage as a keynote speaker who helps others fall in love with their stories, harness their authenticity, and revolutionize their approach to life by leading with purpose.

I’m Rachel Faulkner Brown, a girl with a past like your worst nightmare and a present that is pretty darn fun. I have lived through losing two husbands tragically in an instant, one to an aneurysm and one in an Air Force plane crash. I love marriage so much that I took a chance on it again and married the most interesting man in the world who is our rock and our secret weapon on most days. My favorite jobs are being a wife, clearly, I’ve done it three times, and being a mom to my two love nuggets, Davis and Campbell. My kids are tweens and they are so honest that you want to laugh so hard and in the next moment squeeze their little faces off because you love them so much. What a season of extreme everything we are in but I relish every minute. From recorder torture aka practice to slicked back hair for ballet recitals, it is just pure joy to watch your kids grow in wisdom and stature. My role as a mom is the hardest most rewarding thing I have ever done or will do.
I love ministering to women! Whether I’m on the road speaking or through my ministry Be Still, I especially love the women who are the younger version of the girl I once was. You know the ones….bored Christians who know there has got to be something better, emotionally bankrupt, broken, and great at hiding. I love freedom more than anything else on earth and find myself saying at least once a day..it is for FREEDOM that Christ has set us free. I really want to be your friend and I would love to take you bargain shopping and walk out of a store in a new outfit that cost us less than a cup of fancy coffee. Jesus, healing, freedom and my family are my jam.

“You have a destiny, but your destiny is fulfilled by investing in the destinies of others.”
These words are the lifeblood of Stephen Mansfield’s work and the reason why this New York Times bestselling author, entrepreneur, and popular speaker is often to be found serving vital social causes.
Stephen grew up as the son of a US Army officer, and spent many formative years living in Berlin during the dark days of the Cold War. Returning to the US, he attended college, earning a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy and later a master’s in history and public policy and a doctorate in history and literature. He also began acquiring a reputation as a speaker of both depth and humor. During this season of his life, he wrote books, hosted a radio show, spoke widely, and led a number of social-service organizations.
While managing his busy writing and speaking life, he founded a company that helps prominent figures and top organizations produce high-quality books. He began training leaders, often appearing at conferences around the world. He also began coaching leaders to speak well, something he has done with politicians, leading artists, bestselling authors, and at major universities.
Stephen and his beloved wife, Beverly, split their time between Nashville, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.

About Chip Dodd as told by Chip Dodd...
I have guided thousands of professionals from all walks of life and their families across the “Badlands” of addiction, stress illnesses, and burnout to the lives they were created to have. For 23 years, I was the Executive Director of The Center for Professional Excellence (CPE), which I founded in 1996. CPE was a powerfully effective treatment center that helped thousands get recovery of their hearts. Since 1991 up to the present, I have also had the privilege of getting to share the purpose and life-changing benefits of the Spiritual Root System with countless others through consulting, mentoring, speaking and writing. Those people, in turn, have helped thousands awaken to the lives they were created to have. I want us to have impact for ourselves and the society we can benefit. Together we can do more than we could ever do apart.
The Spiritual Root System (SRS), I developed in 1991. It is a simple and effective way of seeing how we are made, and integrating how we are made into the lives we desire. The SRS’s starting point states that we are created as emotional and spiritual creatures, created to live fully through relationship with ourselves, others, and God.
I wrote The Voice of the Heart in 2001, which teaches the importance of feelings as tools and gifts that can assist us in living fully. This seminal work continues to impact people’s lives all over the world. Each successive book, Needs of the Heart, Keeping Heart, The Perfect Loss, Anthem to the Invisible (a novel), Parenting with Heart, Hope in the Age of Addiction, and How Are You Feeling Today? (children’s book), all speak to our desire to live a full life, love others well, and lead lives that benefit others.
In 1990, I completed my Ph.D. in Counseling at the University of North Texas and beforehand, attained my M.A. in English from the University of Mississippi in 1985. While in Texas, I cofounded Bent Tree Counseling Center in Dallas. I served as the Clinical Director until moving to Tennessee to continue work with organizations, professionals, and their families.
Sonya and I married in 1983; we found each other in high school. We have two grown sons and we currently live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, our hometown.

Grant Edwards served as Senior Pastor of Fellowship Christian Church in Springfield, Ohio, for 49 years.
His ministry began during the Jesus Movement during the early 1970s when he led a group of newly converted, scraggly, non-conforming hippies to start a ministry called the One Way House. This ministry grew into Fellowship Christian Church.
Over the past decades, Grant has traveled internationally over 90 times, and throughout the USA teaching First Steps Conversations, a discipleship curriculum, along with other materials. His interest in discipleship began when he realized that 80 percent of those accepting Jesus walked away from faithfulness soon after conversion. His book, First Steps Conversations, is a 49-year researched and practiced one-on-one discipleship plan that reverses this trend.
Grant writes a six-days-per-week blog called Interruptions that focuses on grace, following Jesus, and practices for living with peace, power, and provision in difficult times.
Focusing on training in discipleship and writing blog posts, Grant is now following a calling to be a “good steward of the teaching material” that God has given to him.

Pat Morley.
After building one of Florida’s 100 largest privately held companies by the age of 35, Patrick Morley thought, There must be more to life than this. There’s gotta be.
Motivated by his own search for meaning, purpose, and a deeper relationship with God, he started a weekly Bible study in a bar with a handful of guys in 1986—a study that now reaches thousands of men around the world every week.
Inspired and challenged by those studies and conversations, he wrote The Man in the Mirror, named one of the 100 most influential books of the 20th century.
The deep hunger he saw in men for a more authentic life led him to start Man in the Mirror—a global men’s ministry impacting thousands of churches and millions of men.
Widely regarded as a leading authority on men’s issues, Patrick has written 22 books and more than 750 articles—all focused on helping men solve their most compelling problems. His books have been translated into numerous languages and printed in 48 countries.
“The ministry of Man in the Mirror exists,” says Patrick Morley, “in answer to the prayers of all those wives, mothers, and grandmothers who have for decades been praying for the men in their lives.”
He graduated from the University of Central Florida, earned a PhD in management, completed postgraduate studies at Harvard Business School and Oxford University, and graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary. He and his wife live in Winter Park, FL. They have two married children and five grandchildren.

Chuck Lawless is Dean of Doctoral Studies and Vice-President of Spiritual Formation and Ministry Centers at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, where he also serves as Professor of Evangelism and Missions. In addition, he is Team Leader for Theological Education Strategists for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Dr. Lawless was awarded an MDiv and a PhD in Evangelism/Church Growth from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he also served as professor and dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions and Evangelism. Prior to that, he was pastor of two Ohio churches. A conference leader and author of several books, including Discipled Warriors, Putting on the Armor, Mentor, and Nobodies for Jesus, Dr. Lawless has a strong interest in discipleship and mentoring.
Dr. Lawless is also president of the Lawless Group, a church consulting firm. He and his wife, Pam, have been married for more than 20 years, and they live in Wake Forest, NC.
Andy Gullahorn is a singer/songwriter originally from Austin, TX. He moved to Nashville, TN back in the 1900’s to attend Belmont University and upon graduating, he married a girl who was about to sign a record deal with Word Records. This was Andy's greatest achievement. After years of playing guitar on the road with his wife and writing songs for various other artists, he started recording his own records again and returned to the road for solo shows as his wife wanted to be home more with their beautiful children who resemble their father. Before pandemic-land, Andy would spend most of the year on the road performing at conferences, house concerts, clubs, retreats, festivals, churches and stairwells. During COVID-time, when he is not resentfully monitoring online school for those beautiful kids, he spends his time writing songs and performing online shows accompanied by a fake applause machine. He also has a healthy appetite for hobbies. His favorites include bowling, badminton, collecting used Christmas trees, creating haunted trails for neighborhood kids, and giving high fives.
His eighth and most recent record, Everything As It Should Be, released in 2018 to great fanfare (from his mom).
James Cary is an unusual mix. He is a writer of situation comedy for BBC TV (eg. Miranda, Bluestone 42) and Radio (Think the Unthinkable, Hut 33) and blogs about the technicalities of the process. He has also produced a video course called Writing Your Sitcom. In case you’re wondering, his favourite sitcoms of all time are Yes, Prime Minister and Seinfeld.
James Cary is also a Christian, with tendencies towards Calvinism (see? I warned you he was odd). He is also a member of the House of Laity of the General Synod for the Church of England for the Diocese of Bath & Wells, and a Lay Representative of Synod on The Archbishops’ Council. He has a degree in Theology from the University of Durham, preaches at his church from time to time and has no plans to become a vicar. For over a decade, he wrote a column for the now defunct Third Way magazine.
James is especially interested in the interaction between church, faith, culture and politics. His heroes include GK Chesterton, CS Lewis, William Wilberforce, PG Wodehouse, PJ O’Rourke and David Gower.

Jonathan is the father of four daughters and was blessed with fifteen intentional years of marriage to Wynter.

Rhett Walker is not your typical Christian artist. The 25-year-old preacher’s son who was raised in the South has come full circle with his faith after a period of rebelling against it.
“We moved away from my hometown when I was 16, and I didn’t like that. I just went nuts, doing whatever I wanted to do in the moment,” he said. “I mixed with the rough crowd, got into fights and drugs. It wasn’t long before I was expelled from school—just always in trouble. So they sent me to this Christian school, the only one that would take me, and I met this girl. It wasn’t long after that we found out she was pregnant. That was the stop in the path for me.”
Being faced with being a father at 17, Rhett knew it was time to make a choice - he could continue going down the destructive path he was on, or he could change. “It was like, Man, what am I doing?” he recalls. “My girlfriend’s having a baby, and I have no job. I finally sat down with April, who is now my wife, and said: We’ve done everything wrong that we possibly can. Let’s do everything right from here on out.”
Rhett and April went on to get married, and rededicated his life to Christ. From there, the Lord began opening doors for Rhett to lead worship and pursue music. “I always knew I wanted to do music, but I couldn’t sing as a kid; I was just terrible at it,” he said. “So I was a drummer at church growing up until one day they called me out front to sing ‘Grace Like Rain’ by Todd Agnew, and I never went back to the drums. The more I sang the more things started opening up.”
Rhett’s first single with his new record label Essential Records was "When Mercy Found Me" off the album Come To The River. The record speaks of the singer's personal journey and is refreshingly raw and honest. One theme that is apparent throughout the entire album is that of grace.
“There’s just nothing we can do without grace; we’re all dirty, messed up people, but Christ still loves us,” said Rhett. “So there are two things we must do. One: rejoice, because now we have a purpose on this earth—to share that grace with others. Two: take up the calling. You can’t just take that love and not tell the story that goes with it.”
The song "Come To The River," was the result of a season where Rhett was having a difficult time dealing with the burdens of life. “I was kind of in a moment in my life where I felt like I was I just but being overwhelmed by the stresses of life. I started getting so overwhelmed that I got in my car one day and got alone with Christ, and I ended up in front of a river and said, ‘God I can’t do this alone, I'm just a man.’” he explains. “I felt like God was telling me, ‘Just come to the river. You've got to wash yourself clean of this. And you've got to let me be in control.’ There are moments in everyone’s life when they come to that point. Mine just happened to be in front of a river.”
Rhett used his God given talents once again while serving with K-LOVE's Scott and Kelli at Denver's Sharefest this last summer. While in Denver, 12 people were killed and 58 injured during a shooting spree at a local movie theater on July 19, 2012. The following day, he worked with Moriah Peters to write and perform "Just Pray" in memory of the victims and gave it away for free.
His newest single "Believer" was created "to combat the daily struggles and thoughts of 'I'm just not good enough,' because we serve a God as a believer that says, 'Yes, you can't be good enough, but I sent my son to die on the cross and pay the ultimate sacrifice so that way your foundation can be freedom.'" Rhett continues, "So, to end anxiety - we can be truth speakers. To stress and frustration - we can be mountain movers. We are Gospel preachers with hearts on fire, and I want to walk in that freedom."
