It's crucial to recognize the significant impact that sleep, or lack thereof, can have on our employees' productivity and overall well-being. As managers, we often overlook the various factors that can affect their sleep patterns, which in turn influence their performance during the workday.
Factors such as travel, dietary habits, level of physical activity, stress levels, and excessive use of gadgets all play a role in disrupting our employees' sleep routines and personal circadian rhythms. For instance, frequent travel can disrupt one's sleep schedule due to jet lag and changes in time zones. Unhealthy eating habits or consuming stimulants like caffeine late in the day can interfere with the ability to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night. Similarly, inadequate exercise or high levels of stress can lead to restless nights and decreased sleep quality. Moreover, the excessive use of electronic devices before bedtime, such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops, can disrupt the body's natural sleep-wake cycle due to the blue light emitted by these devices, thus making it harder for individuals to fall asleep. As managers, it's essential for us to be mindful of these factors and create a supportive environment that promotes healthy sleep habits among our employees. This could involve offering flexibility in work schedules to accommodate varying sleep needs, providing resources or workshops on stress management and sleep hygiene, and fostering a culture that prioritizes work-life balance.By acknowledging and addressing the impact of sleep on our employees' lives, we can ultimately enhance their well-being, productivity, and satisfaction in the workplace.Bijoy E. John, MD, is a board-certified physician and practicing sleep specialist currently in private practice with over 25 years of experience in Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Acklen Avenue has been a remote work environment since they started back in 2011. What started as a 2 person business has grown to over 120 team members today - all working remotely. Colin shares some of the "experiments" they have done that has worked, and others that they have had to refine over time. Key points are1. Relationships being developed2. Good listening3. Having metrics that team members are measured against4. Simply as cameras on for all meetings5. Open communicationMost of these apply to any business but when you are remote - you have to make them your mission and commitment to create that environment that people thrive in.Colin Callahan's passion lies in cultivating an environment conducive to employee flourishing. Serving as the CEO and co-founder of Acklen Avenue since its inception in 2011, he has dedicated himself to this endeavor. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Colin relocated to Los Angeles at 21 to pursue studies at the Musician’s Institute. It was in 1999, while attending programming classes, that he unearthed his passion for software development. Subsequently settling in Nashville, he embarked on a career as a software engineer. Over the next decade, Colin noticed a scarcity of outstanding workplaces catering to software developers. Motivated by this realization, Colin and his business partner Byron Sommardahl founded Acklen Avenue with the vision of building an environment where employees would thrive.Contact Information:

AI can be like jumping into a swimming pool , but not knowing how to swim. Peter Mares shares with us an approach that applies to technology/AI.So like any person that wants to swim - you take lessons, and start with the basics and then work your way up to swimming laps. This applies to Technology and AI. There are basic things you have to learn and do well before you move to the next level.
The 4 key steps in Technology is 1. Descriptive - (the What) 2. Diagnostics - (the Why) 3. Predictive - (What is likely to happen) 4. Prescriptive - (What should I do now)Steps 1 and 2 are the basics. You have to be able to do this well before you jump in for 3 and 4.Peter J. Mares is a former partner at a “Big Four” accounting firm who brings an innovative and entrepreneurial background to the mid-market. Wade Fulton shares about automation and AI in the home and office. There are new things coming out it seems daily to make our lifes easier and better. What used to be expensive or out of reach is no longer. Wade opens our eyes to new tools that make your environment more effective and functional.Wade Fulton, a Nashville native, is passionate about helping people get the most our oftoday’s latest technology. After spending 15 years in sales and marketing in the healthcare sector, Wade decided he was ready for a change. That’s when he went to work for Apple, working on the Business Team to help businesses integrate Apple products into a Windows-dominant work environment. He left Apple in 2012 to pursue a career as an Apple Consultant.
After guiding countless business and individuals to a world of working smarter, not harder, he saw an opportunity to go way beyond Macs, iPhones, and iPads. The market was getting flooded with “home control systems”—some were decent options, but many of the ‘solutions’ were simply falling short of their promise to make your home simple to control.
That’s when Wade founded The Fulton Group in 2015 to expand his services beyond Apple Consulting to designing easy-to-use audio/video/theater/control systems. A designer at heart with degrees in Graphic Design, Photography, and Art History from Savannah College of Art & Design, Wade was able to embrace his passion for design and take a new approach to the ‘smart home’ market. Most people don’t consider how they will use their home until construction is complete. Unfortunately, builders, homeowners, contractors, etc. don’t think about Wi-Fi, whole-house audio, control, motorized shades, and lighting design until it’s too late.
The Fulton Group prides themselves in being an essential part of the design process. They work with homeowners, business owners, builders, designers and more to ensure the end-product results in a space that is state-of-the-art with built-in and invisible speakers, hidden TVs, elegant lighting, and more—all built on a solid, stable, and fast Wi-Fi network and the world’s most advanced control system. All of this allows you to live or work in Iron Man’s house.

There are so many things I am thankful for this year, but at the very top of that list is our listeners. Wishing you a wonderful holiday filled with the warmth and happiness of the season.
In this episode, Matt Hubbard is here to dicuss citizen developer and why it would help your business. Three key points are People, Technology, and Process.
Matt Hubbard is a pioneer on a mission to usher in a new era of productivity through citizen development. Matt caught the citizen developer bug in 2011 after he built his first no-code app on TrackVia in 2011. The app took him 8 hours to create but saved him 200 hours of manual labor per year. Given that success, Matt proceeded to build more apps and teach others to do the same. He later co-founded a consultancy firm that specialized in business process improvement and low-code/no-code technology. Today, Matt is Head of Operational Excellence at TrackVia where he teaches individuals how to become citizen developers and organizations how to scale that capability in a safe and effective way.

Marketing is not just for big businesses. Mark Howells shares effective ways small businesses are approaching marketing.
Biography
Mark has over 15 years of experience across all areas of marketing which started in the trenches, covering everything from content to analytics and advertising to automation. In diverse industries from accounting firms to cycling apparel ecomm, he has been both a jack of all trades employee as well as consulted small to enterprise level organizations.
This base of knowledge allows him to pool information on what works and what doesn't when looking across an entire multi-channel marketing strategy.
As both an employee and consultant, he noticed a trend across most small and medium businesses. They usually had grown through word of mouth and minimal marketing, but struggled to scale. They didn't have cohesive strategies in place to take advantage of most of the opportunities in digital marketing.
Dakota Ridge Marketing was born to alleviate this exact problem. We offer a streamlined approach to developing the strategy and a team to fully handle the execution of B2B company's marketing, so the C-Suite has the time to work on the business instead of in it.
Working with IT/MSPs, SaaS companies, Consulting firms, Accounting firms, Staffing agencies, plus more diverse B2Bs, has resulted in unprecedented goal achievement and boosted growth.

Steve shares his insight and experience around how to make customer focus truly your number 1 area of focus for your whole organization. We all talk about it, but Steve highlights how you really do it.
Bio
I’ve spent the past 20 years working in and around call centers, hospitality, and casinos. I am eager to bring all of that knowledge to you and do what I love most: Fine-tune your business and prepare it for success! For years I have led Customer Service departments which needs to be the heartbeat of the company. This gave me the drive to become an inter-operations expert to best serve customers. It also exposed me to ‘industries’ inside the casino like fine and casual dining, nightlife, entertainment venues, hotels, and spas. Each came with its unique set of challenges to understand, but I was lucky to learn from some great experts in each area. Since that time, having worked or consulted for several start-up businesses has further equipped me with a new perspective of building things from the ground up and having them be successful. These same strategies have worked for start-ups and struggling businesses that were on the brink of losing everything. If you’re looking to achieve best in class results, we would love to guide your business in: • Customer Experience Journeys & Mapping • Hospitality Operations, including operational excellence in: • Hotel • Restaurant • Spa • Nightlife • Special Event/Concert • Retail • Contact Center • Full location build-outs • Software Procurement & Programming • Quality Assurance Programs (Training & Coaching) • Workforce Planning (Forecasting & Staffing) • Organizational Structure (Hierarchy & Roles/Responsibilities) • Marketing Review & Recommendations •Communications Continuity Planning • I-Gaming Expertise in: • Casino & Sports Betting • Customer Service & Operations Support • Fraud & AML Policy and Procedure

At 64 , Joyce started her business and has been doing it for over 9 years. An expert in her field, LinkedIn and Social Media are important for anybody conducting business today.
Bio of Joyce Fuestel: As a lifelong learner, I began using social media to extend my outreach and connections in 2008, the year I turned 60. Already an experienced and savvy networker, I immediately saw how I could use these skills on Facebook and LinkedIn.
In March of 2010 my manager told me I did a great job explaining social media to our clients. He then asked me if I had ever thought of helping others in my baby boomer age group to understand social media.
That’s the day I figured out what I was supposed to do when I grew up! Within six months I decided to create my business which I called Boomers’ Social Media Tutor.
I spent a few years ramping up my business while still working at that job. Then in March of 2013 I left the job to work full time as a social media trainer and tutor. In this encore career I focus on the social media sites of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
My goal is to make social media simple, easy and fun for those who use my services. I like to use social media to:

When you think about payroll, it is certainly an important part of your business. But what are some of the pitfalls and traps you should be aware of? John Bacon, President of PayThrive stops by to teach us about how this important aspect of running your business isn't as scary as it might sound but provides us with insight into what we should be doing right now.
Bio:
John S. Bacon is the president & founder of PayThrive. He was born & raised in the Detroit metro area & moved to Colorado in 2004. He currently live in the Metro Denver area with my wife and daughter.
He worked briefly in the supplemental benefits space & was a group health insurance broker for a time. He then became an independent sales representative in the payroll / HCM industry, forming his own consulting company in September of 2006. Being independent & a business owner gave him a unique perspective because most industry sales professionals were employee or ‘captive’ salespeople.
He saw an opportunity to disrupt this dysfunction & empower the client with choices. Small to medium sized businesses needed more options & better advice when seeking a new payroll vendor. He wanted to increase candor & reduce conflict of interest – something that would benefit the industry & clients both. He truly felt that clients would greatly value this approach & see it as liberation.
This was the genesis of the PayThrive business model. PayThrive was born, with Human Capital Gains, Realized. They now independently represent 25 different service providers in Colorado & across the country- from Pacific to Eastern time. They represent all the different service levels, from small business payroll to single-database HCM, up to PEO's.
