Luke 24:36-49 - Jesus Reveals Himself (Key Verses v44-49)
44He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Luke 24:44-49 NIV
We must confess before God every sin in our past life that has not been confessed.
We must remove anything that is doubtful in our lives.
Total Surrender. We must say and do all that the Spirit tells us.
Make a public confession of Christ.
PRIVATE CONFESSION AND REPENTANCE
Jesus Announces the Good News
14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Mark 1:14-15 NIV
REMOVE ALL SIN
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-10 NIV
SURRENDER AND OBEDIENCE
23Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. 25What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?
Luke 9:23-25 NIV
PUBLIC CONFESSION
15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:15-16 NIV

Emmanuel - God With US (Not Just You)
Join us as we begin our exploration through the Book of Luke.
We are taking a deeper look into the depths of The Gospel, or The Good News.
Luke 2:41-4:13
Join us today as we explore Genesis 28:10-22 and take a look at "The House of God" as revealed to Jacob by God.
Today we look at two terms "Back-Sliding" or "Apostacy" and how they call into question the heart of believers.
Who is your God?
Chasing Approval
How many of us find ourselves seeking the attention and acceptance of those who have no eternal effect on our lives?
Thank you for joining us today!
Who is God of your life? Today we tackle the masks that we use to hide our truest self.
How often in life do we have to see in order to believe, when in fact our faith should give us the ability to believe before we physically see?
Who is God in your life? Who do you worship? We laugh at Aaron and the Israelites for their idol worship of a golden calf, yet we spend hours a day glued to a 3x5in pieces of plastic where we pretend to be the best version of ourselves for others acceptance. Examine where your time is devoted, there your heart is devoted.
We are the Church. The bride of Christ. Do you do your part, or are you a part of the problem? Church hurt exists due to our undervalue of what the Church actually means.
Today we take a look at the last part of the Trinity. God the Spirt, The Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Truth, The Advocate or Helper.
Today we look at the second part of the Trinity. We look at salvation. Salvation is available only through God the Son, Jesus Christ.
Here at City Growth Church we want to encourage and support the type of faith that moves mountains, the type of faith that is responsible for MIRACLES.
At City Growth Church we believe DISCIPLESHIP is one of the five integral or "vital" concepts that mold and shape who we are and how we serve.
Teaching - Grow Like Jesus
“He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.””
Matthew 15:24 ESV
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”
Matthew 18:12-14 ESV
“Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Luke 15:1-7 ESV
Wisdom
A fathers talk with his son
(Solomon to his son)
(Gods advice to us through prayer)
Mediate on verses:
5, 13, 20-22, 23
“My children, listen when your father corrects you. Pay attention and learn good judgment, for I am giving you good guidance. Don’t turn away from my instructions.”
Proverbs 4:1-2 NLT
“My father taught me, “Take my words to heart. Follow my commands, and you will live.”
Proverbs 4:4 NLT
“Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.”
Proverbs 4:5 NLT
“Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.”
Proverbs 4:6 NLT
“Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.”
Proverbs 4:13 NLT
“The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over. My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
Proverbs 4:18-23 NLT
Wisdom x 5 (insight/wisdom 6 esv)
Don’t x 8 (do not 7 esv)
At City Growth Church we believe DISCIPLESHIP is one of the five integral or "vital" concepts that mold and shape who we are and how we serve.
Discipleship - Share Like Jesus
“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.” Luke 6:40 (ESV)
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. Matthew 4:18–22
At City Growth Church we believe EVANGELISM is one of the five integral or "vital" concepts tht mold and shape who we are and how we serve.
Evangelism - Share like Jesus(Witness to the lost)
How can I best communicate Jesus to this person?
1 Thessalonians 2:8
Evangelism can never be “one size fits all.” Each encounter will be different.
A. Everyone Is Different
Our personalities, our schedules, our intricacies set us apart.
B. Everyone Is the Same
Our need is all the same, we have a God shaped hole.
Five Keys to effective witness
Be friendly.
For many of us, the initial challenge is not making disciples, it’s making friends.
Matthew 7:12
Keep the gospel in view.
Anything might come up: politics, reasonable curfews for teenagers, the exact dimensions of heaven. But through it all, the goal is to steer the conversation back onto the road of gospel clarity and conviction.
Col. 4:3–4
Eph. 6:12
Invite them to be your guest at a gathering of Christians.
You want your non-Christian friends to see Christian love reverberate in other people’s lives. Let these gatherings serve as an appetizer before the entrée—when they see Christians gathered together as local churches worshipping the risen Savior.
John 13:34–35
Ask them to read through one of the Gospels with you.
Many non-Christians, even those who grew up in churches, have actually never read the Bible. Yet they often have all kinds of opinions about God, Jesus, Christians, and truth
David Helm’s One to One Bible Reading. It includes an eight-meeting plan through the Gospel of Mark
1 Cor. 1:18
Keep the bigger picture in mind.
Let me encourage you to remember that success in evangelism doesn’t depend on your skill, personality, or immeasurable Bible knowledge
Mark 4:26–27
Rom. 10:15
At City Growth Church we believe WORSHIP is one of the five integral or "vital" concepts that help mold and shape who we are and how we serve.
Worship
To love like JESUS
noun
the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.
"the worship of God"
verb
show reverence and adoration for (a deity); honor with religious rites.
"the Maya built jungle pyramids to worship their gods"
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in My Father’s kingdom.””
Matthew 26:26-29 BSB
“And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”
Matthew 26:30 BSB
On the eve of betrayal, persecution and physical anguish The Lord “worshipped”
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.a 2For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin.c He thus condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1-4 BSB
Passover Psalms
Psalms 113-118 (Hallel or BeBeTaCh)
Psalm 113 - before Passover Seder (emphasis on praise)
Psalm 118 - a journeyman’s song (emphasis on gratitude, admiration, joy and praise)
Jesus sang A SONG OF PRAISE (antiphonally or recited with a return praise) after the conclusion of our very first communion. Then again as they marched to the garden of Gethsemane (to be betrayed)
In this episode we lay out from a fundamental standpoint exactly who we are as a Church and what beliefs we lay at our foundation. Please contact us for my notes or for any clarification or things you may have missed.
We exist in a continual story of:
One Triune God who introduced the inspired scripture. To show we are image bearers with aneed for reconciliation. Jesus is LORD and SAVIOR; Salvation is in Christ alone, Salvation is by grace not works. The Church is the bride and family of Christ Our Messiah who will return again.
How we serve:
Worship is to love like Jesus
On both a corporate and personal level
Evangelism is to share like Jesus
To assist in spreading the Gospel
Discipleship is to lead like Jesus
To help mature followers
Teaching is to grow like Jesus
Through exegetical, historical, systematic and practical theology
Fellowship is to live like Jesus
To live in a community of love, hope, encouragement, unity and giving.
Join us as we explore the early Church and the introduction of Saul to the gospel narrative. We examine the evolution from Acts 1:8 to 8:1 to 9:1. Thank you so much for tuning in!
