As I wrap up Season 8 of The Modern Crone podcast, I realise that the stories of my incredible guests…have changed me!

Not only because of their courage, resilience and sheer willpower…

Not only because of the powerful testaments their experiences give on the strength of the human spirit…

Not only because they remind us that ‘hardship’ and ‘challenge’ are relative…

But because they have expanded my understanding of TRANSFORMATION itself.

I hope you enjoy my personal reflections.

Love,

Dani

She met her husband, Charlie, during a holiday back in Singapore ten years ago, and they married in 2023. Outside of work, Nina is a proud owner of three rescue furbabies, two dogs and a cat, and is expecting her first child in August 2026.

The power of love and how the presence of her man surged her healing.

How she managed the resultant PTSD and survivor’s guilt from the experience through her spiritual journey.

Bradley Montag is an interior designer based in Sydney, Australia. Prior to finding his way into the creative world, Bradley spent more than a decade in trial and error through various studies at university, including architecture, psychology, and, finally, law. After pursuing a career in corporate law, Bradley could no longer ignore the pain that it was causing him and turned inward to find something more - his purpose.

By finding courage within, his passions and gifts slowly re-emerged, and the path ahead became clearer once more. Always fascinated by people’s homes and the powerful ways that spaces made him feel, interior design felt almost inevitable, and so it was a natural step into business to offer this to others.

Join us as Brad shares:

His journey to find his purpose and true expression

The challenge of breaking free from family and societal expectations

How he dealt with others' fear projections when he quit his law career at a time when he ought to be chasing conventional success

How your body, mind and energy levels increasingly signal misalignment in your life path

His interesting take on when we deny our sexuality, we deny our creativity

Why listening to your inner compass is key

Embracing the in-betweens as sacred windows

How the spiritual arts of yoga, meditation and pilgrimage healed and realigned

His wonderful tips to nourish your dreams and find your path

How creativity moves through us, not from us, and we are all here to create

Erika Behl is a coach based in Singapore. Originally from the US, she lived in Africa and Europe before eventually settling in Asia for the past 18 years. After spending almost two decades building a traditionally “successful” life, a breast cancer diagnosis in late 2017 catalysed a shift in her priorities. A year’s-long sabbatical, several attempts at starting a business, and a divorce later, she concedes that sometimes burning down what you don’t want is easier than finding what you do.

She writes for other deep-thinking independents, tells stories on stage, hosts the "Every Moment is a Choice" podcast, and will publish The Clear-Eyed Chemo Journal, a system for cancer patients to reclaim their agency, in 2026. Her work centres on approaches to writing one’s own path.

Join us as Erika shares:

  • Her extraordinary and unusual journey as a young woman
  • The shock of her cancer diagnosis at 40 years old with a young family
  • Her coping strategies as an introvert and atheist
  • The usefulness and also peril of ‘the cancer warrior’ persona
  • Her subsequent full-blown breakdown after surviving cancer
  • The devastating impact of not speaking her truth and the building pressure of wearing masks
  • The power of choice and taking action
  • How shopping around through therapy, meditation, somatic practices, connection and discovery paved the road to her recovery
  • The rise of creativity through personal storytelling, writing, and podcasting
  • How her journey led to helping others through coaching and her soon-to-be-released Cancer Journal: The Clear-Eyed Chemo Journal
  • The seminal question - ‘Why not now?’

Born in Faridabad, North India, Surabhi Ahuja has been on a profound spiritual journey for almost ten years. Her awakening began through the experience of hypnobirthing with her first born, which opened her awareness to the power of the mind–body connection and her own energetic depth.

Much of her evolution since then has unfolded through her physical body. Experiences such as an ectopic pregnancy, hypothyroidism, chronic allergies, postpartum depression, debilitating sports injuries and a diagnosis of cancer in 2024, became catalysts for transformation rather than setbacks.

With each diagnosis, Surabhi chose not to accept the limited perspectives offered by family, society, or the medical system. Instead, she forged her own path—breaking norms and bridging the seen and unseen worlds.

Today, she is not defined by her cancer journey or any illness. She stands tall

Join us as Surabhi shares….

  • How her spiritual journey expresses through her physical body
  • Her very raw and real experience of being diagnosed with aggressive and advanced cancer
  • Her process of regaining self-advocacy, and constantly choosing life, love and health.
  • We talk about the best ways to support a loved one on a cancer journey (and what not to say),
  • Surabhi’s beautiful conscious connection with the Divine and how she knows when the Divine is speaking with her
  • Her go-to practices to stay grounded, in harmony and heal

G is a Scottish witch, folk magic practitioner, and the voice behind @thatglasgowwitch on IG, where she shares wisdom on Scottish folk magic, creating your own Wheel of the Year, herbal traditions, and seasonal rituals.

With over 25 years of practice, she weaves ancient practices into modern life, helping others reconnect with nature’s cycles and the magic of everyday moments.

A passionate advocate for dispelling fear and misconceptions about witchcraft, she highlights how these practices are deeply rooted in ancestral wisdom, land-based spirituality, and everyday folk traditions.

Her work focuses on practical, accessible magic, drawing from Scotland’s rich spiritual heritage. She grows, crafts, and integrates witchcraft into daily life and brings a deep reverence for ancestral wisdom, blending history, storytelling, and hands-on practice to inspire and empower others on their own spiritual path.

Join us as G shares:

Her upbringing just outside of Glasgow and the beautiful ancient historical pagan roots of the land; a childhood free from religious dogma and full of folk-magic and Jungian frames; how she found her way to intentional witchcraft and her divine understanding of witchcraft being a personal cultivation of powerful beliefs and practices rooted in animism, ancestry and deep listening. G lives to reclaim the title ‘witch’, from the legacy of the brutal burning times in Scotland and late repeal of the witchcraft act. Scouring the witch trail documents she finds the ancient Scottish practices of her ancestors and brings them back to life. Learn about her relationship with the Scottish goddesses the Cailleach and Brigitte and the gods and goddess of places, and why interest is growing in witchcraft, ritual and ceremonial gatherings in recent years.

THE MODERN CRONE

Season 5: The Spirit of Love with PhD Student and Commentator on Gender and Sexuality Representation in Australian Film and Society, Issey Kane

Issey Kane, is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne who is researching the intersection of public and cultural policy to explore the fifty year-long project that is curating Australia's national identity through film.

Raised in Singapore from an early age, Issey embarked on her academic journey at the Australian International School before graduating from the International Baccalaureate program in 2016. She pursued her passion for the arts, earning a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Media and Communication and Film and Cultural Studies from the University of Melbourne. Continuing her scholarly pursuits, she obtained a Master of Arts and Cultural Management in 2022 and has just begun her PhD as of February 2024 after spending a semester teaching at the University in film and visual media classes.

Beyond the surface of cinema, Issey's research delves deep into the nuances of representations and aesthetics within National Cinemas. Her focus lies in deciphering the cultural resonance embedded in films and understanding their impact on audiences. Of particular interest to her, as a lesbian, is the portrayal of gender and sexuality in these national films, and the industrial landscape that shapes their narratives through policy on funding, distribution, and exhibition.

Through her work, Issey strives to uncover the intricate connections between film, culture, and identity, shedding light on the broader socio-political landscape of Australia through a contemporary and historical lens.

Join us as we explore Issey’s journey as a young lesbian in today’s world and the subtle prejudices that still exist; the queer identity in public spaces; the importance of self-censorship when travelling; the continuous nature of ’coming out’ in a hetero-normative standard of most societies; the impact of Pride and D&I movements for young gay lovers; the impact of institutional gender dynamics; what’s the best way to navigate the queer gender labels; the importance of honest representation of self and listening…and so much more!

Rebecca Downie is an international personal branding photographer whose clients are based across the UK, Singapore and Australia.

Her great uncle was a photographer and it was the many old photos from her mum's life that instilled in her the value of photos. A tangible record of a life lived.

From teen years she often had a camera in her hand but with no creative role models in her life she followed the traditional path of uni and business, followed by a 15 year career in the media and marketing industry.

When looking to leave corporate to create a life on her terms she turned to her love of photography.

Her passion is empowering women leaders and founders to proudly take the space they deserve.

Her 'why' in business is to provide a service that not only creates a portfolio of stunning on-brand marketing images for their business, but one that shows them, via the power of her lens, just how fabulous they are. And how the world already sees them.

Creative Spirit with Professional Artist - Julie Williams

Julie Williams was born an artist, passionate and creative as a little girl. She was drawn to esoteric practice as a teen, a full-blown Hippy in the early 70’s and then became a dedicated Biba follower of fashion in London.

After studying art and ceramics at school she wanted to go to Art School in Brighton UK but her plans were thwarted so she went to Paris for a year in 1977. There her true passion for in Art and the History of Art developed, she returned home and completed a BA in business studies, tourism and law to appease her parents and shortly after emigrated to Sydney Australia.

Finding love and becoming a mother at 24 left no time for developing her artistic passion. She immersed herself in ‘Looking at Art’ until the age of 41 when she finally achieved her dream and enrolled at the National Art School in Sydney in 2000.

Since then Julie has been in numerous exhibitions in Sydney, Regional Australia, and Singapore including a satellite exhibition during ARTJOG in Jogjakarta Indonesia in 2018.

It was whilst living in Singapore for five years that Julie also developed her esoteric practice and deepened her Spiritual enquiry that really shifted her creative practice.

Her paintings are conceptual, based on an idea and constructed with attention to her craft, but lately she has felt drawn to clearing her mind of all thought and trusting her Spirit to pull her through a painting. A painting is an illusion of space and it is this playing with space through shape, form and colour that keeps Julie painting.

Join us as Julie shares her unique journey into claiming her creative expression fully later in her life, how her process feels as she nurtures concept to finished work, and how important her spiritual practice is for staying in flow and aligned with the truth of her works.

Creative Spirit with Creative Director - Anastassia Selezneva

Anastassia Selezneva first began her creative exploration as a painter in her youth, and transitioned to jewellery design as a new medium in 2012. The desire came spontaneously when she walked into a jewellery supply store on Queen St in Toronto.

This chance encounter ignited an immediate curiosity. Anastassia taught herself basic goldsmithing techniques late into most nights and early mornings. Moving between her kitchen counter and her makeshift studio, she experimented with wire wrapping gemstones, fusing metals, and stone setting.

Her life began to form a duality; she was a business analyst by day, and an artist by night. The pull to be immersed in creativity was clear and in 2015, Anastassia quit her job, began training as a professional goldsmith at George Brown College and simultaneously, launched her line, Anastassia Sel Jewelry.

Synonymous with her roots, Anastassia’s collection is handmade in Toronto, using 100% certified Canadian gold and ethically sourced materials.

Since then, Anastassia’s work has been featured in Vogue, Elle, Wedluxe, Brides, among other publications, has walked the New York, Milan and Toronto runways, and can be found in select boutiques in Canada, US and online.

Join us as we explore Anastassia’s journey into her full creative expression, how our greater purpose keeps finding us until we respond, her incredible melding of spiritual travel and downloads into her jewellery, and how working with gold as supreme medium.

AFTERLIFE with Author and Psychic Medium - Kerry Alderuccio

Kerry Alderuccio’s introduction to all things of a psychic nature came to her relatively late in life. It was after the loss of her adored 19-year-old son, Sam, that she realised that the instinct that she had always had, might be something more profound.

Throughout her life she has always been aware of changes in the energy around her, naively assuming that everyone felt such things. But as her loved ones gradually passed away, she always remained very aware of their presence.

It was after Sam’s untimely passing that Kerry decided to act on this instinct and look for answers as to where Sam was and how contact could be made. She began her mediumship studies initially by sitting in circle in Melbourne and then attended Arthur Findlay College in the United Kingdom, where her psychic and mediumship gifts became very apparent.

Kerry’s studies continue at Arthur Findlay College with yearly visits for two weeks at a time. Kerry believes that knowledge and learning have no ending, just like life itself. It is Kerry’s wish to work with and help as many people as possible to assist them in coping with their own grief, whether that be through simple conversation, a mediumship reading or a tarot reading, where she can gain insight into them in a psychic way.

AFTERLIFE with Intuitive Artist, QHRT Practitioner and Psychic Medium- Biba Logan

Biba Logan is an intuitive artist who began painting after a vision she received in a dream. She began painting with the understanding that she is not the artist, but the vessel that the spirit of creativity needs to be expressed through.

Biba attunes to what she describes as ‘golden access to the light’ which contains all the information she needs as an artist and intuitive and all that we will all ever need. Her focus is learning to attune to that energy and allow it to be.

She began to understand that her paintings are healing in nature. They are encoded with frequencies that are assigned to the people that are drawn to them. Each piece is created for a specific person and when that person receives the painting, the light information within the painting sets a frequency within their environment and they will be able to communicate with their spirit team and receive the healing that they need. They are multi-dimensional paintings and so the healing and connection is multi-dimensional.

After several months of non-stop painting and much success with acknowledgements which was not her initial intention, Netflix took several of her paintings for one of their tv shows being made in Ireland.

Painting released in her a deeper awareness of the way the mystery works.

Biba knows how to paint and how to communicate with those in the unseen realms and bring messages of hope and love to those seeking solace, guidance, love and healing.

She has since qualified as a Quantum Healing Hypnosis Practitioner and has begun to write a book about her journey to discovering the mystery within. It’s to help people enquire and discover their connection to a greater power of light and love within. As within so without

AFTERLIFE with Psychic Medium, Tarot Consultant and Crystal Healer - Bronia West

Bronia West is a Spiritual Psychic Medium, Tarot Consultant and Crystal Healer who studied with the Spiritual Venturers Association to obtain her Diploma in Crystal Healing. This was founded by Edmund Harold who was a trance medium and linked the clear quartz crystal to trance mediumship. She is also a member of the Affiliation of Crystal Healing Organisation.

Bronia believes that our own personality and the uniqueness of our very being, allows us to open and expand the mind, body, and spirit, awakening and igniting the flame within our souls. It is the very essence of the divine spark that gives us the zest to search for knowledge, truth and understanding. If we do not understand our own awareness, the energy of our own spirit, we cannot begin to understand the awareness and energy of others, both on the physical plane and those who reside in the spirit world.

She is a great believer that our sensitivity and heightened awareness is contained in the very core of our being, within our soul of personal belief system - this is the unique universal energy and power of your spirit.

Since her journey’s unfolding in 1990 (and well before then as she can recall events that she experienced in childhood), Bronia has found that there is always something new to experience through our sensitivity of sight, feeling, sensing, and knowing. She is a great believer in unlocking the awareness of the spirit and she has produced an inspirational card deck, “The Awakening of Your Spirit” where each card can be a focus and message for what you truly seek.

AFTERLIFE with Trance Medium and Circle Leader, Carol Blake

After a few years in an awareness group Carol started trance mediumship groups in 2007, every week with her mentor and tutor Pat William Ellis. Pat had 75 years in Spiritualism and passed away in 2021 at the age 93, still working. He was a wonderful trance philosopher, and Carol feels so privileged to have worked with him. He went to the Author Findlay College when Gordon Higginson was there.

Fifteen years later Carol is still doing trance every week. Carol used to say that getting into the physical energies was by chance because it wasn't planned. But she has been told many times that she is a physical medium, and nothing happens by chance, when working with Spirit.

Twelve years on with the physical circle all Carol can say is “wow what a privilege!”. She has her own awareness group and trance group every week plus a physical mediumship circle of which she is circle leader. Carol’s husband is the physical medium. It is very much a home circle. They are allowed by the ‘Spirit Team’ to have a couple of demonstrations a year for other trance workers to experience the physical energies with the intelligent phenomena. Carol still loves her mediumship one-to-one work which has grown alongside her other mediumship work.

AFTERLIFE with Trance Medium and Teacher, Sharon Harvey

Sharon is a tutor at the Arthur Findlay College where she is known for her lively, humorous approach.

Sharon is from a travelling family who only settled in a permanent home following the tragic death of her Grandmother's children. Following this, her grandmother would not move far away from where they were buried and so they settled down.

She never forgot her roots and kept the barrel top caravan in her garden. Her Grandmother was a great influence on her and was well known for her 'gifts' especially in healing, including animals.

As a child Sharon was always drawn to God and would skip school to sit in churches and graveyards where she felt close to him. As a teenager she saw spirit but didn't understand it and it frightened her.

Eventually however her interest was aroused again and she began reading Tarot cards and doing sittings. Her real love was to be found at the Arthur Findlay College where her proper mediumistic development began.

Her great inspiration was Mavis Pittilla, and Sharon joined every course of hers that she could. Mavis once said:

"The Spirit World is Sharon's World and she has to be a medium."

These words have meant everything to Sharon and have inspired her through good and bad times.

Sharon's love of life is infectious and she enjoys sparking the interest of new students which she does with ease. Her favourite expression is "God doesn't want you to be miserable", and she certainly practices what she preaches.

Sharon is married with three children and four grandchildren, some of whom already exhibit her mediumistic traits. Sharon's grandfather was also very psychic and he used his abilities in a very enterprising way.

Earlier this year I spent a week at The Arthur Findlay College in Sharon’s Trance Mediumship class…which was incredible on so many levels.

On today’s episode I am joined by Mark Flood. Mark has a passion to work with various shamanic techniques and perspectives – to open up the spaces he holds for direct and revelatory contact to pure existence.

He feels that in an age of information proliferation, we can all forget where to go to find our own visions- while being surrounded by so much of the sight already seen.

Mark has learnt from shamanic teachers over the past seven years and also acknowledges the teachings from the unseen and inner ones that have been with him and felt since a young boy.

He considers himself to still be in training for his shamanic becoming, as he believes in the long road, and the long ways in which learning arrives through the measures of walking this path through great distances of time.

Mark moves deeply and reverently within the spaces he holds and really enjoys the connective moments that arise out of the hearts of human beings gathering in sacred circles.

He practices the shamanic work daily and has allied himself through this work to a purpose and a type of medicine that helps to reveal a vision of life that Is unique and available to every one of us.

Join us as we explore Mark’s story of a felt-knowing of the Great Mystery from his boyhood, the ecstatic path of the soul, the disruptive dynamics of Shamanism, the soul’s call, working with spiritual allies and finding the resonance of ‘wonder within’. Mark shares with us how his poetry moves through him as an extension of this ‘felt knowing’ and a sublime revelation of the nonlinearity of who we were, who we are and who we are becoming, all coexisting in every moment. We end the podcast with a reading of Mark’s beautiful poetry. Divine!
