I enjoyed being in a routine, but it got to a point where I caught myself thinking about each part of it from sunrise to sunset. It was mentally exhausting. I felt stressed and overwhelmed. So, I tried a different approach. I went with the flow while getting my entire routine done. I’ve been moving down my list of things to do by doing them as they come. I pace myself.

It got to a point when I got bored of my home. My bedroom and living room became repetitive. I needed a change of environment. I could go for a ride or a walk, but I’ll always end up home. One morning the sun was out, and the weather felt just right. It was a Sunday late afternoon, and I wanted to be cozy at home. I made my bed in the morning, and since I didn’t want to undo it until it was time for me to go to sleep. I laid a blanket on the carpeted floor with a ton of pillows and opened the windows. I listened to music while I brainstormed a creative project.

I woke up feeling alive. I watched the sunrise and its colorful clouds. I made my bed, and I went about my day. I felt relaxed yet vibrant. At sunset, I washed the dishes, then I relaxed for the evening. I went to bed thinking it was a good day, and most importantly, I felt good. My mood that day made me long for that same feeling the following morning. Somewhat unconsciously, the next day, I caught myself tidying up my space as I did the day before. I’ve been doing so since then. The thought of not straightening up before turning the lights off for the night gives me an unfulfilling feeling. I have a routine, and the consistency makes me feel proactive.
