Pink Power Walk Mondays is a weekly podcast for October, breast cancer awareness month, focused on women of color. The “Black Breasts Matter” series is designed to provide accurate information on the best care for black women, elucidate the specific risks facing black women, share evidence-based data about why black women are dying and how we can help each other survive, and to honor the stories of resilience of our sister survivors and fighters who are on the journey. In this episode I will interview Dr. Leslie Holmes who is a board-certified Radiation Oncologist with over 25 years experience. She has treated numerous black women with breast disease and will help me explore the socioeconomic factors affecting the breast cancer rate in black women.
In this episode I will interview the CEO of TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, Ms. Rickie Fairley. Rickie will share her heartwarming story of survival and her relentless work over the years to improve outcomes for black women diagnosed with breast cancer. Her new nonprofit organization is the first of its kind to focus primarily on the eradication of breast cancer in black women through galvanizing research, leveraging collaborative partnerships, supporting progressive legislation and pharmaceutical advancements targeting disease in black women.
In this episode I interview Dr. Stephanie D. Barnes and awarding winning author, writer and life coach who happens to be the daughter of a breast cancer survivor. She will share her personal story of the Mental health issues faced a by survivor, how she supported her mom, and how we can help others.
