I'm a former professional hockey trainer turned professional country music singer and I've picked four people to interview from 3 different areas in my life (personal, sport, and music) that I think most people will find interesting, inspirational, and motivating. The interviews of these four initial people showcase many of the inspiring experiences, successes, and advice that they have for the listener. In turn, I ask each of my guests to recommend a single person that they feel have a story that needs to be told... that the world needs to hear from ....someone that I need to be talking to. Each guest will be connected to the last by the final question of "Who should I be talking to?" and we will see if there truly are six degrees of separation if and when they all intertwine as the episodes reveal themselves.
Kwaku immigrated to Canada from Africa as a youngster and grew up in the GTA. A fantastic human that gives his impression of life lessons from his grandmother, leaving the world a better place, and general wholesome humanity. It was an absolute pleasure having him on the podcast.

Joe Vickers lives in seasonal rotation. In the summer he is an Alberta grain farmer and when the snow falls he hits the road as a storytelling folk singer. The travelling troubadour has logged countless miles touring across Canada and the USA as the front man for folk punk group, Audio/Rocketry. As a solo artist he has backpacked across Europe with a guitar in tow, playing everywhere from all-night bars to punk squats, travelling by whatever means necessary - from camper van to train or hitchhiking. Over the years, Vickers has shared the stage with traveling artists of a similar mind, such as Trampled by Turtles, Chuck Ragan, The Strumbellas, The Rural Alberta Advantage and Elliot BROOD.

Dean Stott is a world-leading security consultant. From corporate assignments to UHNWIs, he has delivered bespoke security solutions at all levels, for clients including governments, presidents and royal families. Dean was one of the first army soldiers to make it through the gruelling, six-month Special Forces selection process to join the Special Boat Service (SBS). The next stage of his military career took him to some of the world’s toughest and most unwelcoming places – hostile environments in which his life and the lives of others were constantly under threat. This real-world experience, in tandem with his elite Special Forces training, is what enables Dean to do things that terrify normal people. In 2016 Dean began training for the biggest challenge of his life. His plan was to cycle the entire 14,000-mile length of the Pan-American Highway (PAH), the longest motorable road in the world. There was just one problem. Despite his long military career and proficiency with a huge range of vehicles and weaponry, he had never cycled more than a few miles. But Dean believes in the ability to adapt to new challenges; in having the confidence to overcome the insurmountable. Together with his wife Alana, he prepared to do more than just complete the ride. He was going to do it faster than anyone had ever done it before.
He passed through 14 countries on his expedition, cycling for an average of 10 hours per day. He experienced extreme terrain from the Atacama Desert to the mountains of Alaska. He even rode through a tornado. In the final stretch, he rode for 17 hours and he covered 340 miles on his longest stint.
In May 2018, he completed his journey, gaining not one but two world records: the fastest person to cycle the length of South America and the fastest cycle journey of the Pan American Highway. With his final time of 99 days, 12 hours and 56 minutes, Dean smashed the former world record by 17 days and became the first person ever to make the journey in under 100 days.

Alana Stott MBE Wolfraven Omnimedia
Author, Producer, Publisher, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur
Alana Stott is a protector and problem-solver. A true multi-hyphenate, Alana founded and developed Wolfraven Omnimedia as a vehicle to help tell amazing and inspirational stories, including her own, while fiercely advocating for causes aimed at making the world a better place. Stott has written the game-changing business and philanthropy book, “How to Ask for Money”, her powerful memoir “She Who Dares”, and a series of empowering children’s books – all to be published in 2023.

In 2018, Stott raised $1.3 million dollars for a mental health awareness campaign at the request of Prince Harry and Stott’s husband Dean Stott, a double world record-breaking cross-country cyclist, TV presenter and former UK Special Forces Operator. This was not her first stint in fundraising. Much like her working life, her business and philanthropic career paths started early.
Stott qualified as a Ship Security Officer and one of the first women to receive the Company Security Officer designation, qualifying her to run security on any vessel at sea. She is also a fully-qualified Close Protection Officer. Stott is an honorary member of The Special Boat Services Association, the UK equivalent of The Navy’s Seal Team 6. She has organized multiple grand red carpet events to raise funds for injured special forces soldiers and their families.
In her non-profit work, Stott sources, researches and meets with potential donors personally, builds relationships and has received multiple accolades for her work, such as ‘Fundraiser of the Year’ (2018) and Scottish Businesswoman of the Year runner up (2019).
Alana was award the title of Member of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) on the King's Honor List 2023 for her work supporting vulnerable women and mental health awareness.

Two Hours Traffic was a Canadian indie rock band active from 2000 to 2013. Hailing from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the group were performers of power-pop songs. Core members included Liam Corcoran (lead vocals, guitar), Alec O’Hanley (lead guitar, vocals, keyboards), Andrew MacDonald (bass, lead guitar), and Derek Ellis (drums), with Nathan Gill (bass) replacing O’Hanley in 2011. Their fourth album, Little Jabs, was short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. The band held a farewell tour before disbanding in 2013. Since then, the group has reunited occasionally.
Each of the band members has since moved on to other musical projects: Corcoran pursues a solo career and plays with The Express; O’Hanley is part of Alvvays; Gill is part of North Lakes and Baby God; and MacDonald and Ellis are part of Golden Cinema.
Solo career
Following his ensemble experiences with Two Hours Traffic and The Express, Corcoran has developed his career as a solo artist. Although his material continues to exhibit the catchiness of pop, it has grown in other different directions. His debut EP Rom-Drom can be neatly categorized as alt-country, but Nevahland, his first LP, is a stylistically-complex blend of rock, pop, indie, hip-hop, and alt-country. In March 2020, Corcoran released his latest album, Giving Tree and Other Songs ー an album split into two parts: simple acoustic songs and more elaborately-orchestrated songs, each with their own flavour including punk, rock, alt-country, lo-fi, and indie-pop.[ His first two releases also feature extra-musical themes: Rom-Drom explores separation from a distance, and Nevahland tells the story of three couples fleeing an oncoming disaster. Liam has a 9 song solo album debuting 7 July 2023!
Personal life
Liam Corcoran works as the Program Manager for Holland College’s School of Performing Arts (SOPA). He has also worked in other branches of education, notably co-writing a song with students from Prince Street Elementary School. In recent years, Corcoran has become a father and husband; this is encapsulated in his album Giving Tree and Other Songs which reflects ideas of domesticity and fatherhood. Corcoran is a cousin of songwriter and former Hey Rosetta! member Kinley Dowling.

Nick Doneff was born in Fort Erie, Ontario and has called Prince Edward Island home since 2013.
The Charlottetown-based musician and songwriter has become a staple within PEI’s musical landscape by way of his earnest songwriting, laid-back demeanour, and singular approach to the guitar. Tom Power, host of CBC’s “Q”, describes him as a cross between Joel Plaskett and John Prine and an artist that “you need to hear.”
Doneff is a musician’s musician; he is a past recipient of MusicPEI’s Musician of the Year award and occasionally works onstage with some of the island’s finest acts, including Tara MacLean, Liam Corcoran and is a member of indie rock band Two Hours Traffic.
Doneff released his sophomore LP, The Late August Days, in November of 2021. The 9-song album boasts contributions from Jim Creeggan (Barenaked Ladies), Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson), Dave Haskett (Shawn Mendes), Catherine MacLellan, Union Duke, Aaron Comeau (Skydiggers), Blair Packham (The Jitters), and more.

Kelsi Sheren is a combat veteran and artillery gunner in the Canadian military who served in Afghanistan in 2009 with the Canadian, American, and British armed forces. She was a competitive Tae Kwon Do champion from the ages of four to nineteen and holds a second-degree black belt.
After deploying to Afghanistan at nineteen, Kelsi was diagnosed with PTSD and sent home only to begin a new war—the war with herself.
When her therapist recommended art therapy, Kelsi started making jewelry out of spent shell casings. She began with a warrior bracelet that led to the creation of a successful jewelry and eyewear brand, Brass & Unity. Twenty percent of net profits go toward helping veterans who are suffering from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and suicide.
In 2020, Brass & Unity was nominated for Canada’s top fashion award, The CAFA Fashion Impact Award. Spencer began his brewing profession with the PEI Brewing Company in 2013. Upon completing his Chemistry degree from UPEI the following year, his passion for producing quality fermented beverages only grew. Now, Spencer is an experienced brewer with an expertise in product development.
Spencer is currently approaching completion of a Master’s in Science, more specifically, his research involves the chemistry of wild growing local hops. He has been able to directly translate his academic learning to his brewing profession. In addition, Spencer is part way through his Diploma in Brewing Science from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London, England.
With the PEI Brewing Company, Spencer has played a role in beer creations that have been awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the Canadian Brewing Awards. He is also an active member of the American Society of Brewing Chemists and has given multiple presentations at their international conferences.
Over the course of his career, Spencer has gained a great deal of experience in all aspects of the brewing industry and is excited to share his future creations with the customers of Lone Oak Brewing Co.

Lawrence Maxwell cut his teeth on beer caps, rough waters, and country music. His latest album, Ballad of Miles has been nominated for seven Music PEI Awards and has received airplay on: Sirius XM’s ‘Top of the Country,’ Country Hits Radio UK and CBC ‘Q’. With its neo-traditional production, and comparisons to both John Prine and Merle Haggard, Roots Music Canada has dubbed the record “the first great Canadian alt-country album of 2022.” His music video for "Back to Cape Breton" was a finalist in the Canadian Independent Music Video Awards and his song "Better You" was selected in the Top 100 for CBC/Toyota Searchlight in 2022. As an ECMA award nominee and two-time Music P.E.I. award winner, this Prince Edward Island singer-songwriter will tell it to you like it’s folk, and sing it to you like it’s country.
Maxwell hails from Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province but one with a rich country music history based on every citizen’s relationship to the land and sea. In fact, before launching his musical career, Maxwell served in the Royal Canadian Navy upon graduating high school where, during downtime aboard his warship, he would compose thoughts that would lay the groundwork for his 2018 debut album Not Your Outlaw.
That record immediately put him on the Country Music map and earned him his first Music P.E.I. Award. Maxwell followed it up in 2020 with Almost Natural, which further displayed his skill at blending the traditional sounds of folk and bluegrass with modern themes and production values. It garnered Maxwell his first East Coast Music Award nomination and an AmericanaFest-UK showcase in 2021, while proving his music’s ability to unite fans of both the old and new. Now with his latest album, Ballad Of Miles, Maxwell is poised to expand his audience even further.

Carl Thiel is an award winning composer and producer who splits time between Los Angeles and Austin, Texas.
At age 6, he began taking classical piano lessons under the tutelage of Carlos Alcaráz -from the National Conservatory of Music- and within a couple of years, he was already improvising and composing his own music. He had a natural talent for figuring out how to play music by ear, and by his early teenage years, he had built a vast repertory of pop songs that would amuse his family and friends. At age 14 he landed a summer job as a pianist at an upscale restaurant, where he played Billy Joel and Elton John favorites, as well as Frank Sinatra standards and the like.
His high school years were spent at Trinity College School in Ontario, Canada, where as a boarding student, he flourished in art and music studies.
As a self-motivated young man, he used his 4-track recorder to create a demo reel of mock radio commercials, and score them with his own original music. He distributed this reel to the various contacts he had made in the TV production circles and eventually landed his first opportunity with a local agency. The job was a very low budget local :30sec TV ad that paid him a modest $150.00, but it marked the beginning of his professional scoring career. That exposure led to more jobs scoring local ads and corporate videos.
Eventually he was given the opportunity to pitch (competing against many other well-established music houses across Texas) for the official jingle of the Texas Lottery’s inaugural campaign. His winning composition (the vocals for which were recorded in his bedroom closet with a borrowed microphone) earned him the multi-market contract and opened the door to many more regional and then national campaigns for clients such as Coors Light, Subaru, Pepto-Bismol, Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola and many more. In between projects, he continued to develop his production and engineering skills by producing album projects for regional, national and international artists.
Carl's recent projects include: "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”, the highly acclaimed independent feature “The Teller and the Truth”, Rooster Teeth's sci-fi comedy "Lazer Team 2", the breathtaking documentary "Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy", and "Seis Manos", an exciting new Netflix original Animé series, produced by the same team that brought you "Castlevania".
Besides working with Robert Rodriguez, Carl has had the privilege of collaborating with amazing creative forces such as Sandra Bullock, Willie Nelson, John Debney, Bob Schneider, Billy Gibbons, and many more. He's received multiple accolades, including a Latin GRAMMY® nomination and four ASCAP Film & TV Awards. He has served many years on the Board of Governors of the Texas Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and frequently volunteers his time to teach and work with high school and college students across the state during educational events such as GRAMMY U Speaker Series and GRAMMY Camp.

Growing up the fifth of seven children in the border town of Brownsville, Texas, Rick del Castillo took full advantage of his older siblings large record collection. From The Beatles to Bach, Black Sabbath to BB King all musical styles were welcome. Around his 6th birthday Rick began banging on his mom’s old Folgers coffee cans. Sports eventually quelled his musical fire until his older siblings took an interest in the guitar. Rick caught the bug at twelve and has never looked back.
In Austin, he hooked up with his younger brother Mark and formed Del Castillo along with vocalist Alex Ruiz. With an incendiary blend of Gypsy passion meets full-throttle Rock the band immediately became a local sensation, grabbing the attention of film director Robert Rodriguez. In exchange for Rodriguez directing Del Castillo’s live DVD the band provided music for the film Once Upon A Time In Mexico. During this period Rodriguez hatched the idea to form a movie band. Chingon was born providing their iconic version of the classic “Malaguena Salerosa” for the movie Kill Bill Vol. II. Rick has continued to work with Rodriguez and has provided music for the last seven of Rodriguez’s films and now works with him for his new El Rey Television network.

San Antonio, Texas has always been the musical and cultural crossroads of the Lone Star State. It’s the blurry line of demarcation between Texas’ modern Anglo-centric history and its centuries-old Latino past. Music collides in San Antonio, with rock, country, Tejano, punk, Tex-Mex pop, blues and horn-driven mariachi and norteño bumping into one another like boxcars on a freight train. San Antonio native son and musical godfather Doug Sahm once sang, “You just can’t live in Texas if you don’t have a lot of soul.” That goes double for the Alamo City.
Patricia Vonne is a product of that cultural menudo, if you will. As one of ten wildly creative offspring (including her older brother, film director Robert Rodriguez) growing up in the historic Monte Vista section of San Antonio, she and her siblings were encouraged to find their own creative paths. Her father, a native of the Rio Grande Valley, came to San Antonio on a musical scholarship. Her mother, of Spanish descent, played guitar and sang Old World folksongs for her kids. On weekends, the family would attend matinee performances of classic films and MGM musicals. Vonne absorbed those influences and melded them with a passion for rock ‘n’ roll born of her first exposure to Fort Worth rocker Johnny Reno and his band, the Sax Maniacs.
“Growing up as a Tejana, I listened to the diverse music of San Antonio—country, rock, jazz, pop, conjunto and Tejano styles,” she recalled. “When I started writing my own music, which is also a hybrid mix of sound and flavors, I felt a need to preserve and honor the rich cultural heritage of my upbringing.”
Beginning in 1990, she spent a decade in New York City pursuing music and acting, career moves which went on to inform her riveting onstage persona. While in the city, she answered a want-ad for a backup singer for a local band. After building a following in the New York area, singing and playing bass with Mick & the Maelstroms, and meeting longtime musical partner Robert LaRoche, she began writing her own material and concocting her own ensemble in 1998.
New York toughened her up, she said. “It sharpened my survival instincts while also teaching me patience, tenacity and resilience.”
Vonne felt comfortable exploring her own hybrid musical territory, but not everyone got the picture. “I have a vision for my music,” she said years later. “In New York, I would sit down with these CEOs of these record companies who would say, ‘We can make you the Mexican Celine Dion.’ I love Celine Dion but I want to be Patricia Vonne."
Vonne moved back to Texas in 2001, but not back to her hometown. Rather, she relocated to Austin and quickly became a standout attraction in a city of earnest singer-songwriters, indie upstarts and quirky iconoclasts. In a career that spans more than four decades, Flores has proven to be a musical chameleon. She’s jumped feet first into punk rock (with her ’70-era band, the Screaming Sirens), country of both the Bakersfield and Nashville varieties, the Texas singer/songwriter scene, alt-country, straight-up rock and rockabilly. So much so the latter that her onstage moniker for years was “The Rockabilly Filly.” But always and throughout, she has been the Chick with the Pick.
Over the years, Flores has been profiled in Guitar World, Premiere Guitar and Guitar Player magazines. Venuszine cited Flores as one of the “Top 75 Greatest Female Guitarists of All Time” by Venuszine magazine. She performed at a tribute to Chuck Berry at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. She has worked with, and helped propel back in to the spotlight, pioneer female rockabilly artists Wanda Jackson and Janis Martin. In 2007, she won a Peabody Award for her narration of the rockabilly documentary, Whole Lotta Shakin’. She worked with Martin in producing the latter’s 2012 album, The Blanco Sessions, which would prove to be Martin’s last recording.
Throughout, she released her own work. To name but a few, they include her solo debut, 1987’s Rosie Flores, 1995’s Rockabilly Filly, 1999’s Dance Hall Dreams, the acoustic live set Single Rose in 2004, 2009’s Girl of the Century and, in 2012, the aptly-named, self-produced Working Girl’s Guitar. Since then, her time has been spent on her labor of love—Simple Case of the Blues.
Though she has toured around the world, Flores always returns to her adopted hometown of Austin, Texas, where she was honored with Rosie Flores day in 2006 (an honor she was accorded once again in 2017). Cover stories in the Austin Chronicle and Austin Woman magazine have codified her status as one of the city’s most celebrated musicians.
“She’s a hard-working, independently minded artist who’s well-respected for her gritty, energetic vocals and fiery guitar solos,” writes the authoritative website Allmusic.com. “Prolifically creative, Flores deserves to be numbered among the creators of the alternative country movement.” Now, with Simple Case of the Blues, Flores is making a full musical circle, back to her roots—and ours.

A little about James:
James Mullinger is an award -winning writer, comedian, and filmaker from Loondon, England. He moved to Saint John, New Brunswick, in 2014 and has described the move as "the best thing that ever happened to me." Prior to moving to Canada, Mullinger worked at GQ, interviewing everyone from Chris Rock and Paul Rudd to Rachel Weisz and. Scarlett Johansson and directing short films with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and One Direction for the magazine's digital division.
Mullinger's work has been described as "Britain's greatest gift to Canadian comedy" (Montreal Times) and as "compulsive viewing" (Huffington Post). Considered one of Canada's top comics, he's been nominated for a Just For Laughs Comedy Award and a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Live Show. Stephen DIxon could possibly be one of the most liked teammates in hockey history. Stephen started his hockey career playing minor hockey up through to AAA Maj Midget in Halifax, NS. He was a first round draft pick of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in 2001 where he played out his junior career before being drafted to the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. For two seasons back to back Dixon graced the roster of the the Canadian team in the World Junior Championships winning Gold and Silver medals.
Dixon spent 2 years in Wilkes Barre Scranton rooming with Spitting Chiclets host and now broadcaster Paul "Biz Nasty" Bissonette. Dixon was traded to Portland and played his 3rd AHL season with them.
After his 3rd season, Dixon made the jump to Europe landing first in Sweden, and then moving from country to country for the next several years including Russia, Finland, and Wales. He currently occupies a roster spot with Cardiff Devils of the EIHL who won their playoffs this past year.

Check out this episode where former QMJHL enforcer Nathan Veinot and I reminisce about some of the good old days with the Cape Breton Eagles. Nathan is the follow up guest to Dr. Nikole MacLellan who recommended him as the next guest for the podcast.
Throughout the conversation and amongst the laughs of this spitting chiclets style episode, you can see the Nathan's resilience. From a small town in the Annapolis Valley, he ended up playing Major Junior hockey quite literally fighting his way through that career against some of the biggest heavyweights of that era despite being a middleweight size himself.
One key message that might just pass the listener was when he mentioned that he would always get back up when he got knocked down. That continued for him as he wandered into the workforce eventually becoming an Engineer on the trains, and his eventual run in with the COVID environment and regulations. It was a great time catching up with him on this episode. We shared some great laughs and stories here.

Dr. Nikole MacLellan a.k.a Dr. Kokes (nicknames always stick) was fortunate enough to have the opportunity at a young age to play many sports. She found herself leading national ringette teams to gold medals, playing provincial soccer for New Brunswick, and her amazing hockey career lead her to play for the Dalhousie University women’s varsity team. She has been extremely fortunate to take invaluable leadership and teamwork skills from sport but has always had a strong passion for education.
Dr. Kokes completed her Bachelors of Commerce at Dalhousie University with a major in Marketing Management. She always had a keen interest in nutrition and health so she pivoted and obtained her Bachelors of Applied Human Nutrition with Dietetics from Mount Saint Vincent University. Through this degree she was able to experience so many amazing opportunities from working at the Halifax Rehabilitation centre, working with at risk youth, to working with QMJHL athletes, and in hospitals all across Nova Scotia.
She built a solid foundation in nutrition but was looking for more ways to evoke change in patients so she attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine where she completed her Doctorate in 2017.
Through her training Dr. Kokes primarily focuses in sports medicine and pain management. She has completed her certification in sports nutrition through the International Society of Sports Nutrition and has taken Sport Medicine training at Harvard University. She has a strong passion for regenerative medicine and has seen first hand its ability to improve recovery outcomes.
All of these skills have culminated into total performance optimization. When we speak of performance most minds go direct to athletics but we perform tasks all day every day. Performance encompasses optimizing your total daily experience from wake to sleep.

Brandon is a Physiotherapist from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A graduate of Dalhousie University, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and a Masters of Science degree in Physiotherapy. He is also certified in Biomedical Dry needling. During his training to become a physiotherapist, Brandon completed his senior clinical placement at PROactive Health & Performance Centre.
Upon graduating, Brandon gained further professional experience in a private orthopedic setting. As Brandon developed his own treatment approach, his learning was guided by regularly attending the teams bi-weekly education sessions held by the clinicians at PROactive.
Brandon has devoted over 10 years to studying and teaching the martial arts. He practices wrestling, muay thai kickboxing, and holds the rank of black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu. To balance and supplement the physicality associated with these activities, Brandon incorporates several daily mindfulness practices, including yoga, meditation and breathwork.
Growing up, Brandon has competitive sport experience playing hockey and soccer at the provincial level, and has intermittently explored other activities including rugby, kayaking, ultimate frisbee, crossfit and bouldering. He has also performed many different forms of resistance training over the last 15 years and is continuously seeking different methods of exercise.

What a fantastic episode today...a chat with CCMA Hall of Fame Member ... Patricia Conroy. To start with,...I am a big fan of Patricia's music prior to any of my own involvement in the industry so was a thrill to chat with her in this episode. Here is a bit of a bio from Patricias site and I will include a few links to some of the great things we chatted about below.
Throughout her musical career, songwriting has been an integral a part of Patricia's success. In her career, she has released six albums, one compilation album and released 25 singles, including the RPM Country Tracks number one singles, "Somebody's Leavin'" and "What Else Can I Do".
From her debut album, "Blue Angel", where she wrote many of the tracks, it became apparent songwriting was in her blood, crafting hits like "Direction of Love", "Keep Me Rockin", "Bad Day for Trains", "I Don’t Wanna Be the One" and many more.
She has been the recipient of many awards in Canada, including CCMA Rising Star (1990), CCMA Female Artist of the Year (1994) and CCMA Album of the Year (1993), just to name a few.
Patricia is now focused on songwriting for other artists, having her songs recorded by some of Canada's brightest country stars, like: Meghan Patrick, Leaving Thomas, Jake Mathews, Rivertown Saints, Michelle Wright, Jimmy Rankin, Emerson Drive, Bobby Wills, Chad Brownlee, Kansas Stone, Smalltown Pistols, Jessica Mitchell, Aaron Pritchett, Beverley Mahood, Leah Daniels and Tebey, among others. She also has landed cuts with US artists Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire, scoring a U.S. and Canadian number 1 hit with Lady A’s “Champagne Night”.
In 2021, the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awarded Patricia Conroy with Songwriter of the Year and inducted her into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.

In this episode I get to speak with Tom Eagles, who was the Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion from 2014 to 2016.
Tom is a life member of the Marble Arch Branch in his hometown of Plaster Rock, N.B., and has served as branch president, district commander and provincial command president.
In 2003, Eagles joined Dominion Executive Council and since then has served at the national level as chairman of veterans, services and seniors, RCEL and dominion convention and vice-chairman of pay, finance/budget, investment and staff pension and a member of veterans consultation, constitution and laws, poppy and remembrance and outreach and community relations committees. Currently he is vice-chairman of public relations, sports, RCEL and leadership development as well as a member of pay and finance/budget committees. In 2012, he was chairman of the Canvet Board of Directors.
He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada medal, Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals and Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation. Eagles has worked for the municipality of Plaster Rock for 37 years. He is past president of Plaster Rock’s Minor Hockey League and spent five years on the Tobique Valley Manor Board of Directors. His hobbies include hockey, baseball and golf. He and his wife Cheryl Giberson have four children, Ryan, Daniel, Brook and Brett and two granddaughters, Killian and Ella.

Todays episode features the brilliant Brian Allen. Brian was referred as someone that I should be talking to by one of the first guests on the podcast, Jason Barry. Jason certainly was not wrong about this one. I thoroughly enjoyed our chat in this podcast. Some of the highlights from the conversation were discussing his band house when he moved from home at the age of 17 and how he cut his teeth with that band doing covers and eventually originals in bars 6 nights per week.

Terry Kelly is an east coast musician who has seven full-length recordings to his credit. He has gained international recognition as an athlete, award-winning singer, songwriter, and entertainer, speaker and lover of life.

LCol (Ret'd) Brad White is the follow up guest to Episode 2 Guest Col (Ret'd) Randy Price.
In this episode Brad and I discuss his involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion as the Dominion Secretary National Executive Director. We chat about his role in bringing the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier to Canada and the ceremony of the internment of the remains at the site.

Paul Kennedy was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and started his radio career at CJLS Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1968. For the next 28 years he dedicated himself for the most part to country radio, including 20 years spent at CHFX Halifax on air and as Music Director. He was also a broadcaster at CKDH-Amherst,
CHSJ in Saint John, CKBC-Bathurst and in recent years since 2002 – on Seaside fm in Eastern Passage.
He has interviewed many of country's biggest stars such as Marty Robbins, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, Reba, and Keith Urban … from Hank Snow to Shania Twain. Paul has taken great pride promoting many of Canada's finest artists over the years.... his first interview was with Anne Murray .. a year or so before her International fame.
Kennedy formed his own company in the mid-nineties, "Kennedy Artist Promotions" to further his work covering Canadian artist achievements, including reporting for National radio programs such as "Today's Country". He was a country radio promoter-tracker for independent artists between 1998 and 2017.
He was a sought-after feature writer for publications such as the Halifax Daily News, Country Wave, Halifax Chronicle Herald, and for 25 years – a writer Country Music News in Ottawa with his "East Coast Country" column.
Kennedy won the Canadian Country Music Association (Major Market) Music Director of the Year Award five times and captured On Air personality on three occasions. He is most proud to have attended and reported from Country Music Week numerous times … including a stretch for 24 consecutive years.
Paul was thrilled to be elected to the Canadian Country Music Association Hall of Fame in the radio category in 2005 in Calgary.
In our podcast today, Paul and I discuss radio of today and yesteryear, his affinity for people of good character like Charlie Pride; the first interview he ever did on air which was with none other than Anne Murray; and how he was converted to country music.

Jimmie Inch is the fourth and final of my initial episode guests that are the starting point of all future guests on the show. I cannot think of an individual that approaches life quite like Jimmie.
A native of Glace Bay, Cape Breton (kind of), Jimmie weaves a tale over our chat about his start in music, ditching University to tour and coming full circle back to the same university to open for Great Big Sea a short time later; how he went on to become a structural engineer and decided that perhaps the Arctic was the best place for him to practice the trade.
We chat at length about his bid to win "The Great Canadian Music Dream" with an original song written by his bandmate and guitar samurai Glen MacIsaac.
Jimmie goes into a bit of detail as we explore how good it feels to win and how he wishes his entire family could experience that feeling.
We touch on the way that He and Jack Bonaparte came up with an idea to create and host a syndicated radio show from their apartment called "The East Coast Countdown", which would garner him several East Coast Music Awards.
Over the afternoon we definitely had to talk about turning his basement into a TV studio to host his own tv show; and of course the time he decided to teach High School Band on a whim.
Finally we get to hear about how Jimmie found and created a relationship with his 19 year old son that he had when was 15 yrs old.

Jason Barry is an award winning producer, songwriter, post audio engineer, and musician who has collected dozens of Canada's largest music accolades including Juno's, CCMA Awards, Canadian Music Awards, SOCAN Awards, and countless others.
In this podcast we talk about him overcoming adversity as a he beat being completely hearing impaired from birth to the age of 5; and once again in his prime as a touring and studio musician later in life.
He has toured with, produced, played on, and engineered for countless major musical acts including Dean Brody, Charlie Major, Terri Clark, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Steve Earle and countless others.
As a songwriter he has penned multiple hits with many established songwriters. One he is most proud of is his own song "Yes I Can" which he wrote specifically for a special needs children's charity. That song boasted a Two Thumbs Up from Hockey Icon Don Cherry on an episode of Coaches Corner.

Todays guest is Col (Ret.) Randy Price, a former Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue Pilot who incidentally is my Dad.
We chat about his upbringing in the Alberta Prairies in the Neutral Hills, and the lessons that my Grandparent gave him doing their best to raise a family on land that was reported as uninhabitable as farm land.
We talk about his time in Tactical Helicopters flying for the Army, and a few stories that that brings about, including how he was ordered to blow poplar dust off a camp in Wainwright that essentially knocked the whole place down.
