Then seeing the surf tourism industry booming I jumped ship: Just intime for the Pandemic, proving to myself once again, you just can't see into the future Somewhere in the last ten years while I was doing my best to sell surfboards for Euroglass to the biggest mover of fibreglass in Europe, Boardshop. Matt picked up the phone. Matt has sold more surfboards than you have had hot dinners ( Self-diagnoses surf nerd and board freak). We talked foam. Litres. Fin Setups. Shapes. Futures. FCS. FCS2. Fixed. Finless. Boardless. Aimless. The full circle. Episode 190 - The Run Down On Raglan & What's Predicted For Punta Roca.
What did you guys think of Raglan as an event? Well, here is what we thought. Listen in for our break down of the surfing, the wave, the broadcast and more.
Overall, we are positive on Raglan, yes the lay days suck, but that's surfing. The waves on some of the days before then and during were great. Hearing pro's say it's hard to surf, good, we want them challenged right?!
Some surfers, really stood out and it was super cool to see the different sides to the surfers actually going left on a wave like this.
Carissa was by far the best surfer of the whole event, regardless of the men's or women's. That was domination.
Along with this, we give some predictions and run down on what we think will go down in El Salv. Let us know your thoughts and get your fantasy teams picked!

How good was that?! Pumping waves, no lay days, some of the most outrageous rail work and every heat felt like a banger!
It's been a while since we have had an event this good, but the Gold Coast Pro just made up for Bells and Margs feeling a little bit flat. It must be easy when the waves are just perfect, swell for 4 days and the crowds just getting bigger and bigger.
We break down the event and discuss all the key events, what we loved, why we hate the Bonsoy ad in the final, dark horses going good and just eliteness from the Queen, Steph Gilmore and the young Prince, Ethan Ewing.

One of the greatest series STAB has ever created will now forever been clouded by controversy. We want to focus on the wider picture, the insight into Kelly, the shapers interviews, Episode 3, the surfing and almost everything else was on another level.
Sam Mac and STAB have smashed it! Yes people will focus on the last episode but they shouldn't.
Many people who were saying the Mayhem looked awful are now calling for it to win. What if Pyzel, Sharpeye, CI or even DHD got a chance to see their boards in the only AAA+ session of the series? It could all be different, but overall the Dan Mann looked the best board in the most surfs.
Hate it or love it, Kelly still reigns supreme. We want to just say thanks to STAB, Kelly, the shapers, filmer's and everyone except Buck... F**k you buck.

Britt Merrick started the series being a bit, well of a moron, but this episode lifts the lid on a lot more then an initial impression and maybe we have been won over by the big guy!

Darren's take on his earlier memories of Margo are: I first heard talk of Margo around ’91 at a Byron Bay Boardriders barbecue — before the name was really a name. Everyone was saying he’d progressed to something they’d never seen before. It felt like a myth had formed before most of us had even seen him surf.
A few months later at the Queensland titles in Coolum, I saw it. A frontside re-entry carve in the face — something I’d never seen before, and still not sure I’ve seen since.

From Yago's early 9+ scores for rail work with insanely difficult airs to end, to Connor going huge on finals day, the goofy foots really took the lime light this event.
For the women, Molly had the best waves throughout but Gabi got the back up's and took the W.

As the title says, this is a podcast of two halves.
In the back end of this podcast, we speak about the WSL and the newly released 2025 tour schedule, with the focus on the Abu Dhabi event and how this is a major issue.
Not to skip around the subject, over the last few years the WSL has positioned itself as a leader in "equality" and pushing the boundaries on being inclusive. Allowing athletes like Tyler Wright to wear the LGBTQ+ flag on her jersey along with push equal pay.
Now they are seemingly forgetting all that for money. Taking the tour to a location where Tyler could be sentenced to Death. Our view is the event has to be boycott. No athlete on the men's or women's tour should go. Could you support this? We couldn't. Anyway, listen for more thoughts on this.

I first heard of Gabe Davies back in 2000 when I started at Quiksilver, and these English clients of mine kept dropping his name.
We surfed with Gabe on the weekend, Gabe this, Gabe that. He was and still is one of those who leave impressions on people. We soon became acquainted thanks to the good friends we had in common, and from there, we became friends, as he was also living in Hossegor.
A talented surfer with a beautiful style and a guy that charged. Gabe comes from the unlikely surfing city of Newcastle on the northeastern coast of Mother England, where only the beer is colder and browner than the local slabs offer.
A pioneer of the northwestern coast of Ireland who, along with Richie Fitzgerald, surfed waves that would become iconic in our modern era.
After a long pro career with Quiksilver, Gabe left the mountain and the wave and joined Patagonia, which has become a match made in heaven.
In this episode, we talk about learning to surf in water that will freeze the balls off a brass monkey, the cleaner production of wetsuits, and even his dog joining in for a bark.

Wow. What a show. We are bringing you a full review of the first WSL event of 2024, the Lexus Pipe Pro, and how good was that final day?! Good enough to paper over the wall of hate for the surfing world for running some heats in terrible conditions and maybe missing some huge waves too.

Forgetting the choice making of JMD and others, the finals day was one of the best days in competition since the day Kelly got a buzzer beater against Barron, JJF and Joao went toe for toe and the first ever women's champ got crowned.
Caity Simmers, Betty Lou Sakura Johnson & Molly Picklum took the level of women's competitive surfing at Pipeline & Backdoor and went through the ceiling. Moana has achieved amazing Pipe waves but this was Pipe and Backdoor and it was SPECIAL!
On the mens side, JJF and Barron played with Pipe, stood out as the best male surfers on the day and Barron stopped John getting another Pipe win.
It has got us pumped for Sunset too, which we make predictions for too!

From the sand, Matt & Darren review this year's best surf comp as it happened in front of our very eyes.
The very first Quiksilver festival saw French royalty Jeremy Flores invite one of the best line ups, to come and feast on the world class beach breaks found here in South West France.
World renowned surfers like Noa Deane, Mikey Wright, Clay Marco, Mason Ho, Al Cleland Jnr, Keal Walsh, Coco Ho, Sierra Kerr, Josh Kerr, Shane & Jackson Dorian, Laura Enever, Dimity Stoyle, Sam Piter, Jeremy himself, Michel Bourrez, Marc Lacomare, Kauli Vaast, Maud Le Car, CJ Hobgood, Joan Duru, Aritz Aranburu, Vasco Ribeiro, Vahine Fierro, Balaram Stack and Adriano De Souza, all in town and all ready to go big.
This didn't feel like a comp, surfers paddling out side by side laughing, calling each other into waves and celebrating with each other when they scored solid waves, this was a comp where the surfers were put first, and when the surfers win, we all win.
Jeremy gave us everything, a competition with airs, barrels, combos and even a twin fin day too! Blending free surfers and free surfing with a format that shows off surfing at its best.

Episode 76 - J Bay Was Too Big This Year So Its Been Cut!
Rumours are swirling as to why the WSL have cut J Bay, arguably the best stop on tour. Whether the reason is money, the Olympics or our theory, that the waves where too big compared to all others this year. Maybe the South African jewel made the rest of the
waves look even worse... who knows, but we are not happy with this latest move.
Adding Cloudbreak is a silver lining but these waves should both be on tour, not replacing one with the other.
This isn't even touching on the finals day going back to Pip's back yard!
Its not all gloom and doom, thanks to Mr Liam O'Brien, his latest edit, named Wandering is extraordinary. Easily some of the best surfing and editing to drop in recent times. In LOB we trust. This is a must watch for everyone.

Is it fair? Is it right? Is it the best wave? Is it truthful? Probably not but it was undeniably fun and gripping.

Hawaii is giving us our fix for surf action right now. Darren has been sending it in France but then tuning into surfers going HAM at Waimea Bay.
They saying is "The Bay Calls The Day" and boy did they day get called. It was 20ft at a minimum and sets built all day.

Well, the insiders will give you our opinion very soon. I’ve been more impressed by Grade 2 teachers on whether the kids can have extra crayons or not. Good to see the most unfashionable surfer on planet earth is doing something for his coin.
Maybe the surf league’s obsession with how they aren’t making money has something to do with how much all these leeches ate sucking from pro surfing. Or not?
