Dr Hilary Grant is a Forensic and CAMHS consultant, in the role of Medical Director for Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation from 2016- June 2022.

Hilary spoke about her humble beginnings, working in a cheese factory, developing new cheese to get herself through medical school, through to becoming a medical director- and so many experiences in between.

We spoke about the use of QI within a team and how it stopped an essential service from being closed down, reducing from 100 assaults to <1 assault a month, and reducing 2 million pound overspend.

With Hilary retiring from her role as Medical Director we caught her in her last 5 days in the post, a perfect time to reflect on her career.

This is a must-listen to ensure this learning can be carried forward!

Dr. Tobias Rowland is an ST6 trainee in general adult psychiatry, currently completing an acting-up consultant post. Tobias has completed all his training within the West Midlands at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. During his ST5 year in Coventry, he completed a QI project within the Home Treatment Team.

QI is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate, and more importantly, develop leadership skills. In this episode, Tobias demystifies the process of starting and leading a QI project as a trainee. It started with a clear vision of wanting to improve care for patients and evolved into a multi-disciplinary project, which has been sustained even in Tobias' absence.

This episode of inspiring, refreshing and is the perfect listen to boost your confidence if you want to embark on a QI project.
