The EWangbang Podcast: Recent Episodes

Emile Wang

Just a podcast where I interview the people in my life and discuss anything and everything, mostly about comics, movies and sports, but who knows maybe I'll learn how to appreciate smart things. And how to not write run-on sentences.

As promised, a very special episode about one of the biggest days of my life - my wedding! Join me and previous EWangbang guests Eric Suen and Tan Nguyen as we talk our respective challenges,WTF moments, and lessons learned from our wedding planning experiences and wedding days. Hear about auspicious dates, my groomsen entrance music recommendations, fancy food parades to Despacito, Eric’s tale of IPad Uncle, an oral history of Tan’s epic dance, why your wedding day is like an Avenger’s movie, and much more!

For those who have had their wedding day already, we hope this episode also allows you some reflection on your own big day. For those still working on it, we hope to shed some light on what’s to come.

I realize the episode is long (and minor sound issues in the beginning), however once we lay the background of our planning the episode really takes off and is a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Join us as we discuss the quality of Hong Kong movies, the deeper themes of Infernal Affairs, telling Asians apart, and how I don’t get why Inspector Wong was so careless and got himself thrown off a building. Warrior WangBang Wednesdays are back! After a short but very busy NBA offseason, James and I are back talking GSW Hoops. Join us as we talk the roster moves and the player development we want to see from the Golden State Warriors, as well as discussions about the roster moves of the Cavaliers, Celtics, Thunder, Rockets, and Timberwolves and if we should be legitimately afraid of any of these teams de-throning us. This is a great episode to get back into the spirit of hoops as the Warriors preseason opener kicks off this week!

Jeff and I revisit the Netflix Marvel Universe by reviewing The Defenders, the poor man’s Avenger’s mashup of our favorite hero’s in New York City. Listen to us discuss how New York City really isn’t that big of a place, why I can’t stand Jessica Jones, our criticisms of the ridiculous action, a famous Jeff Liu rant about the leaders of The Hand, and finally an epic fail of a final episode on so many levels.

Apologies for the sound issues from my end!

Jeff and I are joined by a few new EWangBangers to review the world-famous disaster of a movie “The Room”, starring Tommy Wiseau. My good friends Eric Suen and Dan Luddy joined us to discuss fantastic storytelling, line delivery, marathon love scenes (with the appropriate music of course), macho football throwing, and ultimately what qualifies as a really bad movie. Enjoy!

The subject matter of this podcast takes a completely different turn with an episode with a new guest! Tan Nguyen and I have recently had the pleasure of participating in Catholic pre-marital counseling (no, not for each other). Hear our thoughts on our differing understandings of faith (and my severe lack thereof), why Catholics eat the cracker at mass, why we had to do the pre-marital counseling, and finally the experience itself, with a bonus discussion on the five love languages.

A different kind of episode that may require you to pardon your hosts ignorance (and poor sound quality!), however hopefully something to think over if you’ve experienced it before or will be sometime in the future!

Following our review of Ghost In The Shell (part 1), Jeff and I discuss the lack of Asian representation in American Film. We talk about the marketability and relateabiliy of Asian Americans, what needs to happen for them to be successful (continue to use stereotypes as leverage?), the whole chicken and the egg issue of why we may be under-represented, and finally tying in our own experiences in attempts at entertainment.

Listeners do not need to listen to Part 1 or have had seen Ghost In The Shell to follow this episode.
