2022 saw the largest increase in interest rates over the span of a year in Canadian history. This was done by the Bank of Canada to combat the increase of housing costs as well as national inflation. But is there more to the story? November saw the largest amount of insolvencies since early COVID, when lockdowns brought many to their knees. The so-called "solution" is already causing more problems, and 2023 could bring a lot of financial hardship for Canadians. Is a potential looming recession being created by our government, and if so, why? In this episode we try to make sense of all the madness, as well as try to guess at what is likely to happen in 2023.

Today we are joined by a Money Man, Ian Tootill. Ian provides investors with direct access to passive real estate related investments as a Dealing Representative with an Exempt Market Securities Dealer. Since 2019, after changes to the BC’s securities rules, developers and real estate asset managers with few exceptions must utilize securities dealers to access their external project equity via investors.

In this episode we discuss different investment strategies, in particular real estate development projects, as well as the latest absorption reports, how real estate can hedge against inflation, & some of the current development projects in Kelowna, BC.

Ian began his real estate career working as a commercial real estate realtor in California. He transitioned to the world of investing by joining an asset management company, later starting his own investor relations firm. His love for real estate led him to where he is today, as a senior dealing representative at Waverley Corporate Financial Services Ltd.   https://waverleycf.com/

If Real Estate Investing is Your Vehicle, Make Sure You’re Not Driving A Lemon To HellBy now, most of us understand that investing in real estate isn’t the end in and of itself; it’s about what real estate investing can do for your life. However, most people solely focus on the end goal and forget about the journey. Real Estate Investing can get you to a place of financial independence, but does that really matter if it blows up your life along the way? Anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, feelings of isolation, strained relationships, a failed marriage…. These are just some of the risks you take (in addition to the financial ones) when you decide to invest. On the flip side, real estate investing provides you with an opportunity to drive a fine-tuned machine; one where communication, self-awareness, ability to trust and be trusted all increase. One where your relationships improve and your marriage is filled with deep connections. We call this Living Richly through Real Estate!
