Two Chicago transplants living a Phoenix life. Were breaking down social issues, community awareness and whatever else comes up in conversation. Were for the people, by the people. Grab a seat and lets go!
Today we’re talking about The Tulsa race massacre. Have you heard of Black Wall Street and what happened during those two days? We sat down the day before May 31st, the 100th year anniversary, to talk about what happened before, during and the after.
These are some of the things we wish people would stop doing. (Im sure we've all done these things at one point in time, but just stop)
Tune in every Can You Not episode to listen to us vent. Until next time, much love.
As 2020 wrapped up we wanted to sit down and talk about Covid. It has been a pain in everyone's ass for almost a year now. I guess time flies by when theres a pandemic. The service industry has suffered severely, health care and essential workers are over worked and under paid, our teachers are treated like garbage (that hasnt changed much) and everyone is just tired of everything. We have hope for the future. Happy New Year & stay safe out there!
It's a new year and were wrapping up our last episodes from 2020! We sat down and asked each other some interesting questions. Tune in and get to know the voices behind the pod.
Have you ever stopped to think about what drives our fears?
We had a long talk about the different forms that fear comes in and how we face them. From people hiding under the bed to changing careers, fear is the most prominent emotion. Tune in for a heart to heart with your favorite girl duo.
Martina & I talk about culture. . . cultural appropriation to be exact.
What is culture appropriation you ask? Well, culture is defined as the beliefs, ideas, traditions, speech, and material objects associated with a particular group of people. Appropriation is the illegal, unfair, or unjust taking of something that doesn't belong to you. Put two & two together.
From Rita Ora, Kim Kardashian, Jeffree Star and Arianna Grande, these celebrities are among the many who have appropriated Black/Hispanic culture.
Come along as we unpack decades of this shit.
These are some of the things we wish people would stop doing. (Im sure we've all done these things at one point in time)
Tune in every Can You Not episode to listen to us vent and talk about our new Phoenix Finds. Until then much love.
We’re talking about mental health; how it has affected us & how it’s viewed in our communities. We share our experiences, how we’ve dealt with it & how we’re dealing with it now. We’ve all gone through something, more than likely, we can all relate.
Were talking about all the things that help us keep sane. We dont need to all do the same things for self care, but there is one common denominator... LOVE YOURSELF! We talk about gratitude, Lizzo & self care society. Need some ideas for self care? We got you
Things we wish people would stop doing. Tune in every "can you not" episode to hear about the other stuff that gets on our nerves. Much love.
Grab some donuts (you might need a dozen or more) and stress eat with us. Were talking about the third most violent police department in the United States today. And if that wasnt enough excitement for you, lets throw in a conversation about the sheriff who "reigned" down on Phoenix for 24 years. We recommend deep breathing and some quiet time after this.
Edit notes: Podcast about the history of the police and policing: Behind the Police (Host is from Behind the Bastards)
Pour a cup of coffee & come along with us on this journey while we talk about how change starts at a local and state level. One might think, why should you listen to our opinions about this. . . well why not? Were just like you and are a part of this community. Plus, were probably saying all the things youre thinking anyway...
Edited Notes: Paul Peterson was in office from 2013-early 2020 (not 2016) Hey! Its been a long week. Voter registration has passed and tomorrow is the last day to mail back ballots. Happy listening!
Come & hang with us for this minisode about Maricopa's County Attorney and why shes in the hot seat. We're not saying who to vote for, we're just letting you know who not to vote for. We talk about her platform, how she got this position & what shes done (or not done) for our community. Hang tight, its going to be a bumpy ride.
Edit Notes: Unfortunately, the voter registration deadline changed after we recorded this episode.
Come along with us as we talk about the pros of the Biden X Harris Administration, how their platform will effect marginalized communities. This is why we FEEL, we need to dump Trump. We suggest yoga and deep breathing after this episode.
Edited note: Stef mentions "Ben Armisted", we all know its Fred. Its been a long week.
Welcome to our first segment of things we wish people would stop doing. Tune in every "can you not" episode to hear about the other stuff that gets on our nerves. Much love.
