Welcome to UnSpun - your current events podcast and YouTube show. Every week, Jody Vance and George Affleck unspin the latest news in local, provincial, federal politics, and much more.
Episode 318 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck is a catch-up episode after weeks away. George is back from his daughter's wedding in England, and the world has changed.
Here's what's inside:
๐จ๐ฆ Liberal Majority Is Official โ Carney locks it in through floor-crossings and by-elections, goes straight to camera with state-of-the-economy updates, takes every question in English and French, and lands on Lawrence O'Donnell. Poilievre attacks his economics credentials. George calls it a bizarre angle when Trump is doing all the opposition work for the Liberals.
๐๏ธ David Eby Is Doomed โ Flip-flopping, record outmigration from BC (worst in 50 years), no major projects, and the knives are coming from within his own party. George says he'll be ousted before the next election.
๐ณ๏ธ BC Conservative Leadership Race โ Three front runners: Fulmer, Ian Black, and Catherine Elliot. George predicts Black is most likely under a ranked ballot but won't put money on it. Membership sign-up gamesmanship is in full swing.
๐๏ธ Vancouver Municipal Mayhem โ Ken Sim pushes 0% tax increases, $400 million in community centres, and a motion to bring MLB to Vancouver with 17 potential stadium sites. George calls the baseball bid pure PR. Jody asks why the city is building a 25-metre puddle at Sunset when it should be building Olympic-sized pools. COPE, Greens, and OneCity announce a coordination deal that George calls collusion.
๐งน FIFA Cleanup Exposes Vancouver's Neglect โ The city launches a massive cleaning campaign ahead of the World Cup. Graffiti, bike lanes, sidewalks. COVID-era distancing stickers are still there six years later. Jody and George ask: why only when the world is watching?
๐บ๐ธ Tucker Carlson for President โ George is convinced the mea culpa tour is a 2028 campaign launch. Marjorie Taylor Greene is positioning too. Their pitch: Trump betrayed traditional MAGA, we'll bring it back. Pam Bondi is out, Cash Patel faces allegations of drinking on the job, and George shares his two rules of politics: never be in a dunk tank, never shotgun a beer in public.
๐ฌ๐ง View from England โ Trump dominates UK news. Some Carney coverage given his UK ties. Hungary's landslide shows what a real political reckoning looks like. The Finnish PM floats Canada joining the EU.
๐ณ๏ธ Municipal Elections Across BC โ Doug McCallum running again in Surrey and George thinks he could win. Kirk LaPointe in West Van. Brad West untouchable in Port Coquitlam. The border boycott has US tourism down 30%.
๐ From a federal majority to a provincial meltdown to a city that cleans up only when FIFA is watching, Episode 318 is a full reset.
๐ฌ Tell us: Is Eby done? Should Vancouver build Olympic-sized pools instead of chasing MLB teams? And is Tucker Carlson really running in 2028?

In Episode 317 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck, the US war on Iran shakes the global economy, Canada eyes a historic European pivot, and Jody drops a bombshell on the Park Board's pool staffing scandal โ before signing off for a four-week spring break.
Here's what's inside:
๐ The Iran War & Global Fallout โ Trump's military strikes on Iran have shut down the Strait of Hormuz, sent oil past $110 a barrel, and rattled supply chains worldwide. Gas prices surge, groceries climb, and TSA agents work without pay. Jody and George break down how one man has upended the global order in 16 months.
๐จ๐ฆ Canada + the EU? โ The European Union floats the idea of Canada joining. George explains what free movement of goods and services would actually mean for Canadians, and why โ with the US becoming an unreliable partner โ this conversation is suddenly very serious.
๐ฐ Carney's Economic Tightrope โ Canada's PM is doing the rounds, making deals, and projecting confidence. But George warns that until Canadians actually start spending again, all the diplomacy in the world won't fix the economy. Construction stalled, renovations on hold, real estate frozen.
๐ Deficits Everywhere โ From BC's vanishing property transfer tax revenue to Quebec's massive debt, George traces how governments built budgets on unpredictable revenue streams and are now paying the price.
๐ฅ American Healthcare Workers Fleeing to BC โ Eby's government has been quietly recruiting US physicians and scientists. The response from those who've moved? Vancouver feels like relief.
๐ Kits Pool & the Lifeguard Scandal โ Jody has been investigating and the story is bigger than a staff shortage. A Park Board manager has reportedly said they want to "break the system." Jody names names next episode โ and is calling on insiders to come forward. George reminds everyone: the Park Board has been dysfunctional for 20 years.
๐ World Cup Warning โ Vancouver is hosting thousands of visitors this summer. The city's plan to pull lifeguards from beaches to staff pools? George points out he'd like a lifeguard at the beach too.
โธ๏ธ Spring Break โ George heads to the UK for his daughter's wedding. UnSpun returns in four weeks.
๐ From global war economics to Vancouver's pool politics, Episode 317 covers the big and the hyperlocal โ as only UnSpun does.

Episode 316 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck dives deep into Vancouver's City Hall soap opera, a wave of journalists jumping into politics, the slow walk to a Liberal majority, and a war with no end game in Iran.
Here's what's inside:
โ๏ธ Sean Orr Sues Ken Sim โ The councillor launches a GoFundMe to sue the mayor for defamation after the drug dealer comments. George questions whether it'll succeed, raises campaign finance red flags, and explains why the city will likely cover Sim's legal costs. Meanwhile, the affordable housing debate that started it all is completely buried.
๐๏ธ Vancouver's 2026 Election Chaos โ Too many parties, too many candidates, and the left keeps splitting the vote. George breaks down why ABC could still win despite Ken Sim's implosion, and why celebrity name recognition alone doesn't win council seats.
๐๏ธ Journalists Jump Into Politics โ Frances Bula, veteran civic affairs reporter, announces a run for Vancouver council. Janet Brown enters the race in Surrey. George compares the policy wonk versus retail politician skill sets and shares his own 2011 campaign strategy of winning through micro-markets.
๐จ๐ฆ Crossing the Floor to a Majority โ A Nunavut NDP MP joins the Liberals, the first New Democrat to cross. Three Conservatives already have. Carney's now within one or two seats of a majority, with by-elections set for April 13th. George disagrees with floor-crossing on principle. Jody says this one actually makes sense given Nunavut's unique position.
๐ณ๐ด Carney Heads to Norway โ The PM visits the North, then flies to Norway to talk oil, pipelines, and resource management. George points out Norway's $5-trillion sovereign wealth fund, no debt, and protected coastline as the model Canada should follow.
๐ฃ Iran War Escalates โ The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Ships are being attacked. Terror threats emerge on US soil. No congressional approval, no stated end game, and a new reason every day for why the US and Israel went in. George says Netanyahu benefits from regional chaos and Trump thought it would be as easy as Venezuela.
๐ From a GoFundMe lawsuit at City Hall to a war with global supply chain consequences, Episode 316 covers it all.

Episode 315 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck goes from a Vancouver City Hall apology tour to the end of daylight saving time to an actual war breaking out in the Middle East.
Here's what's inside:
๐๏ธ Ken Sim's Full Mea Culpa โ After video surfaced of the mayor himself calling Councillor Sean Orr a drug dealer, Sim held a second press conference and went full apology mode. Orr rejected it. George breaks down the crisis comms strategy and what Sim should have said instead.
๐๏ธ Affordable Housing Gets Lost in the Spin โ The controversy started over housing for seniors and people with disabilities. Not SROs, not the Downtown Eastside. Jody's frustrated that the real issue got buried under political mud-slinging.
๐ BC Kills Daylight Saving Time โ Premier Eby announces BC will spring forward one last time and stay on permanent daylight time. 97% of the public wanted it. Every business group, the airport, and the border opposed it. George predicts Eby will reverse it within a month under pressure from Washington State.
โฝ Granville Street Goes Pedestrian for FIFA โ Vancouver plans to close Granville to traffic for the World Cup fan zone. George and Jody reminisce about the 2010 Olympics energy and hope FIFA brings the same magic. The new PNE amphitheatre โ $184 million, triple the original budget โ will host a 10,000-person fan zone.
๐ด Musqueam Agreement โ The federal government quietly dropped a First Nations ocean and waterway management deal on a Friday afternoon. MP Wade Grant and Musqueam leaders try to calm the backlash while the news gets buried by the weekend's war coverage.
๐ฃ US Launches War on Iran โ Operation Fury begins. Six US service members killed, over a thousand Iranian casualties, and no clear articulation of an end game. Congress wasn't consulted. George and Jody debate whether toppling the regime is justified when there's no plan for what comes next.
๐จ๐ฆ Carney's Global Trade Blitz โ While the US wages war, Canada's Prime Minister is in Australia, Japan, and India signing defence and trade deals. Saskatchewan farmers get canola relief through a China deal. The steel and auto sectors still suffer, but momentum builds.
๐บ Media Landscape Shifts โ CNN may become Fox 2.0 under new ownership. Netflix circles displaced journalists. YouTube lands the Academy Awards through 2030. Christy Noem gets fired. Her replacement can't tell Iran from Iraq.
๐ From Ken Sim's apology to a new war in the Middle East, Episode 315 is the wildest UnSpun yet.

Episode 314 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck swings from Olympic hockey outrage to Vancouver City Hall scandal to the geopolitical chess game Canada's playing on the world stage.
Here's what's inside:
๐ US Hockey Team's Locker Room Moment โ The men's Olympic gold medal team's call with Trump and Cash Patel goes sideways. The women's team laughs it off in real time. Jody goes deep on why "locker room talk" stopped being an excuse decades ago. Some players are apologizing. Most aren't.
๐๏ธ Councillor Lenny Zhou's WeChat Scandal โ A Vancouver councillor goes on WeChat in Mandarin and calls fellow councillors drug dealers and users. He apologized โ but only because he got caught. Mayor Ken Sim's response? A thank-you note for saying sorry. Then he literally ran from the media.
๐ Mexico Under Siege โ George just got back from Puerto Vallarta as cartel violence erupted. Buses, banks, and taxis on fire. Tourists watching from hotel rooftops. A bizarre personal encounter with what may have been a cartel message at a resort.
๐จ๐ฆ Canada's Unity Surge โ Polling shows Canadians more united than they've been in decades. Mark Carney's approval hits record highs, Poilievre drops to minus 16, and defence deals with South Korea, Norway, and the UK fly under the radar.
๐บ๐ธ Trump's State of the Union โ Ten thousand words, zero connection to reality. George and Jody break down the "bizarro world" speech, the sycophant applause, and why Andrew Scheer's "where's the deal?" line may be the worst political read of the year.
๐ค AI, Anthropic & Pete Hegseth โ The US Defence Secretary pressures Anthropic to loosen AI safeguards while Canada pushes to tighten them. Jody and George discuss what that means for the future.
๐๏ธ Vancouver's Official Development Plan โ A massive public hearing on March 10th will codify the Vancouver Plan into policy. Over 130 development projects are in the pipeline for 2026, double last year. The sidewalk budget triples โ but it'll still take 500 years to catch up.
โฝ World Cup & ICE in Vancouver โ Pete Fry's motion to ban US immigration agents from Vancouver during the FIFA World Cup gets ruled out of order. George calls it performative. The question remains: what happens at the border?
๐ From Olympic hockey scandal to Vancouver's biggest planning decision in 40 years, Episode 314 is packed.

Episode 313 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck drops on a news-heavy day โ from Olympic heartbreak to Prince Andrew's arrest to Conservatives jumping ship to the Liberals.
Here's what's inside:
๐ Women's Hockey Heartbreak Canada loses the Olympic gold medal to the USA in overtime after holding a 1-0 lead until 40 seconds left in the third period. George blames the Canucks curse. Jody's devastated but hopeful for the men's tournament.
๐ Conservative MP Crosses the Floor Edmonton Conservative MP joins Mark Carney's Liberals, citing the Davos speech as the turning point. George hates floor-crossing on principle โ but predicts the MP will get an ambassadorship or a soft landing for his trouble. Poilievre calls it "dirty backroom dealing."
๐ค David Letterman in Vancouver Jody sees Letterman live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre filming with Zach Galifianakis. Both go hard politically โ Letterman apologizes for Trump, Zach calls Poilievre "Vladimir Poutine." The sold-out crowd cheers. The separatists in the room were not feeling it.
๐บ Colbert vs. CBS Stephen Colbert was ordered not to air his interview with Texas Senate candidate Colin Allred โ so he talked about it on air and dropped it on YouTube instead. The interview got 10 times the eyeballs. Same Streisand Effect that boosted Jimmy Kimmel.
๐ธ BC Budget Disaster The NDP delivers another brutal budget. George blames a decade of no big projects, increased government staffing by 30%, and thwarting real estate development. Hidden in the fine print: property tax deferral rates jumped from prime minus 2% to prime plus 2%.
๐ฎ Surrey Police Budget Cut The province pulls $46.95 million from Surrey's police transition. George predicts policing will be 40-50% of Surrey's budget within three years.
๐ Prince Andrew Arrested On his 66th birthday, formerly known as Prince Andrew gets a knock at the door โ not gifts, but cops with a warrant. Charges include extortion and selling state secrets. George says Fergie's next. Meanwhile, America still has zero arrests from the Epstein files.
๐ฐ๐ท South Korea's Insurrection Sentence The former South Korean president just got life in prison for insurrection. George asks: sound familiar?
๐จ๐ณ China's Green Leap Jody reflects on how much her worldview shifted after visiting China โ it's now easier to travel there than to the US. Meanwhile, Trump's pushing "big beautiful coal" and bringing back DDT while China builds massive solar and wind farms.
๐ณ๏ธ Action Soothes Anxiety Jody quotes Scott Galloway: when you feel helpless, do something. Stay on the platforms. Call things out. Democracy depends on people showing up.

Episode 312 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck opens with condolences and closes with corruption โ a full rollercoaster from local to international chaos.
Here's what's inside:
๐ Super Bowl Recap Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots. Bad Bunny's halftime show stuns with 360 sugar cane dancers. Canada gets a shoutout. And the team's owner, Jody Allen โ sister of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen โ raises the trophy while the Epstein cloud hangs over Bill Gates.
๐ Tumbler Ridge Mass Shooting British Columbia mourns after a mass shooting in a small mining town of 2,000 people. Nine dead including the alleged shooter, 25 injured. The RCMP keeps details close โ confusing American media used to instant coverage. George and Jody praise Canadian politicians for not politicizing the tragedy.
๐๏ธ Another Mayoral Candidate One City's William Azaroff enters the Vancouver mayoral race. George jokes that at this point, who isn't running? Maybe Jody and George should run as a duo โ she does public hearings, he does the events.
๐๏ธ Granville Street Transformation A major development gets the green light near the Commodore Ballroom โ but George argues Granville should be hotels, not rentals. Residents will just complain about noise. Make it like Times Square. Also: orphan properties still block progress across downtown.
๐ธ Vancouver House CAC Scandal The city wasn't tracking Community Amenity Contributions properly. George breaks down how CACs became cash grabs instead of actual amenities like parks and public art. The chandelier under the Granville Bridge? Originally valued at $5 million โ and the accounting is a mess.
๐ฆ NATO Bank to Vancouver? There's talk of bringing a NATO-affiliated centralized bank headquarters to Vancouver. George notes: if Alberta keeps pushing separation talk, head offices will flee โ just like they left Montreal in the 1970s.
๐ฐ Casino Expansion Concerns The Parq wants to double in size. River Rock already gutted its entertainment spaces for more slot machines. George worries Vancouver casinos are heading the same ugly direction.
โ๏ธ Congress Votes Against Trump Tariffs Republicans flip โ the Senate votes to strike down Trump's emergency tariff order on Canada. It'll likely get vetoed, but it's a crack in the dam.
๐ Pam Bondi's Epstein Circus The Attorney General refuses to answer basic questions about Epstein co-conspirators while survivors sit behind her ignored. The UK strips Prince Andrew's titles. France and Norway take action. Meanwhile, one woman sits in jail in America. Where are the men?
๐ง ICE Leaves Minnesota After disastrous optics, ICE pulls out of Minnesota. George: "They'll just pop up somewhere else to torture people."
๐จ๐ฆ US Meddling in Alberta American officials are meeting with Alberta separatists. George says the ambassador should face consequences โ this is an attack on Canadian sovereignty.

Episode 311 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck goes hyperlocal on Vancouver controversies before diving into BC's provincial mess and the chaos unfolding south of the border.
Here's what's inside:
๐ Pacific Spirit Park Victory Jody wins one for the dog owners. Metro Vancouver backs down on restrictive leash rules after community pushback. The secret? Personalized emails with solutions โ not copy-paste campaigns. Rebecca Bligh gets credit for bringing common sense to the table.
๐ Kits Pool Lifeguard Challenge Jody officially asks: Has Vancouver Park Board posted lifeguard job openings yet? Every year they claim they can't find staff โ but only advertise days before opening. Free Kids Pool!
๐ $2 Million Fireworks Gamble Ken Sim announces city-funded fireworks โ but is it good policy or election-year politics? George breaks down the math: $2 million equals a quarter percent of property tax. Where's it coming from? And why wasn't it in the budget?
๐ธ BC's Budget Catastrophe Tens of billions in debt, highways washed out, wildfires, trade chaos โ but also massive government bloat. George goes off: the NDP has done nothing significant since 2017 except "pavement politics." No big projects, no economic stimulus, no plan.
โ๏ธ BC Conservatives: Too Extreme? The opposition can't capitalize because they're obsessed with culture wars instead of fiscal policy. Trans athletes in school sports? Four kids in the whole country. George and Jody ask: where does the political middle go?
๐จ๐ฆ Harper Backs Carney Stephen Harper publicly endorses Mark Carney as the leader Canada needs โ right after Poilievre's divisive convention speech. Jason Kenney and George W. Bush now look moderate by comparison. The Overton window keeps shifting.
โฝ Pete Fry's ICE Motion The new mayoral candidate puts forward a motion to ban ICE from FIFA events in Vancouver. One problem: the U.S. isn't even playing games in Canada. George calls it pure political spin.
๐ Epstein Files Keep Coming Almost all the files are out โ and only one person is in jail: Ghislaine Maxwell, now in a "country club" prison with yoga and a dog. The Clintons are set to testify. EU countries are launching their own investigations. The redactions still protect powerful names.
๐ From dog parks to billion-dollar deficits to global scandal, Episode 311 covers it all with the unfiltered spin you expect.

Episode 310 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck kicks off the new year with a bang โ from Davos diplomacy to Alberta separatism to Vancouver's crowded mayoral race heating up fast.
Here's what's inside:
๐ Carney's Davos Speech Goes Viral Mark Carney delivers a self-written speech at the World Economic Forum that trends worldwide. "Canada is open for business" โ a roadmap for trade diversification without once naming Trump or the U.S. Polling shows his approval surging coast to coast (except Alberta, down 5%).
๐ Chinese EVs & Trade Pivots Canada opens the door to 40,000 Chinese electric vehicles, South Korea makes a deal, and the UK's Keir Starmer lands in Beijing. The message is clear: if the U.S. shuts doors, Canada will find new ones.
๐ค First Ministers Meet Monthly David Eby, Mark Carney, and Danielle Smith sit down together as premiers commit to monthly in-person meetings while CUSMA hangs in the balance. George explains why face-to-face diplomacy changes everything.
โ ๏ธ Alberta Separation Talk Eby calls Alberta separatists "treasonous," First Nations leaders remind them the land stays put, and George unpacks why this feels more like a protest vote than a real movement.
๐ณ๏ธ Poilievre's Leadership Review The Conservative convention kicks off with a Friday vote on Pierre Poilievre's leadership. His polling is terrible, and there's talk of removing abortion and DEI protections from party policy. George predicts he'll survive โ but not for long.
๐ฑ Media, Bots & the Fight for Truth Only 38% of social media users are real people. Jody explains why staying active on platforms like Twitter matters more than ever, while George calls out CBC for leaving the space to bots and billionaires.
๐๏ธ Vancouver's Mayoral Race Explodes Pete Fry expected to announce Friday. Shauna Sylvester publicly warns him not to run. Karim Allen adds Victoria Young to his slate. Colleen Hardwick circles again. And Jody pitches George Affleck for mayor (yes, really).

Episode 309 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck is a holiday edition that covers everything from BC weather disasters to provincial political turmoil to some alarming new US travel requirements.
Here's what's inside:
๐ง๏ธ Atmospheric River Returns Jody shares her 2021 PTSD as another atmospheric river slams BC and Washington State. Boulders on highways, flooded roads, and the question nobody wants to ask: are we prepared? George thinks we need better warnings. Jody thinks we need boats.
๐๏ธ BC Conservatives: What Comes Next? With Rustad gone, the party faces a long road to rebuild. Could Brad West make a provincial play? What about Eleanor Sturko? George explains why the leadership race could take months, the party is broke, and the path to victory runs through the Lower Mainland, not the far right.
โ๏ธ Land Rights and Pipeline Politics Brad West is making noise on the Richmond land rights issue and First Nations consultation debates. Meanwhile, the pipeline to the north coast remains stalled. George argues Canada needs to get its resources to market or risk economic stagnation. Jody asks why there's only one proposed route through some of the most dangerous waters on the coast.
๐ New US Tourist Rules The US is rolling out invasive new travel requirements: five years of social media history, 10 years of email addresses and phone numbers, IP addresses, family member information, fingerprints, and DNA. George figures Canadians are next. Both hosts wonder if this podcast alone could get them flagged at the border.
๐บ๐ธ Tourism Collapse Hits Washington State A Washington State senator pleads for help as Canadian tourism drops 30%. The Port Angeles to Victoria ferry lays off 30% of staff. Tariffs and hostility are crushing border state economies while Canadians book trips to Chile, Spain, and Germany instead.
๐ฝ๏ธ Grocery Prices Still Climbing A quick nod to the ongoing affordability squeeze. Jody's Christmas roast is still $100. The cost of living conversation continues.
๐ From flooding highways to fractured parties to fortress America, Episode 309 wraps up the year with classic UnSpun honesty.

Episode 308 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck kicks off with a victory lap โ George called it again. John Rustad is officially out, Surrey's police budget explodes, and American politics somehow gets even stranger.
Here's what's inside:
๐๏ธ John Rustad Removed as BC Conservative Leader The BC Conservative caucus finally pulls the trigger. Rustad gets labelled "professionally incapacitated," refuses to accept it, tweets that he's "not going anywhere," and then... goes. Trevor Halford steps in as interim leader. George breaks down the timing โ and whether Rustad delayed his exit just to collect a bigger paycheque.
๐ณ๏ธ What Comes Next for BC's Opposition? With Rustad gone, the Conservative Party of BC faces a leadership race while Premier Eby sits comfortably unchallenged. George explains why clinging to power never works and why some politicians just don't know when to leave.
๐ Surrey Policing Budget Blows Up Brenda Locke is furious. The Surrey Police Service budget comes in way higher than expected โ exactly what George predicted months ago. The transition from RCMP continues to cost taxpayers, and questions mount about accountability.
๐ต Grocery Inflation vs "Affordability" Jody and George dig into the gap between official inflation numbers and what people actually pay at the checkout. A Christmas roast that cost $40 two years ago now runs $100. The word "affordable" sounds fancy โ the reality is just expensive.
๐บ๐ธ Trump Falls Asleep in Congress While Republicans push through their agenda, Trump literally dozes off during a caucus meeting. The same guy who mocked "Sleepy Joe" can't stay awake. Meanwhile, healthcare premiums climb and the Epstein files deadline looms.
โ๏ธ Costco Sues Over Tariffs Costco files a lawsuit demanding their tariff payments back, betting the Supreme Court will rule the tariffs illegal. If they win, the government's already spent the money.

Episode 307 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck delivers a packed week of drama โ a surprise pipeline agreement, a budget thatโs โzeroโ in name only, poll shocks in Vancouver, and another chaotic turn in US politics.
Hereโs whatโs inside:
๐ข๏ธ A New Pipeline to BCโs North Coast Alberta and the federal government sign a major memorandum to advance a new pipeline route to the BC coastline. Premier Eby is boxed in, environmental groups are furious, and First Nations partnerships could flip the politics on its head.
๐จ๐ฆ Carney Balances Climate & Industry The Prime Minister argues Canada must lead on both resource extraction and environmental standards. Jody breaks down why Asian markets want Canadian oil specifically because of Canadaโs ethical standards. George explains how you canโt pay for environmental change without resource revenue.
๐๏ธ BC Politics: Rustad in Trouble, Eby Unchallenged Rustadโs party is cracking from within โ caucus splits, angry riding associations, fundraising problems. Meanwhile, Eby sits comfortably with no effective opposition. A snap election becomes more plausible by the day.
๐๏ธ Vancouverโs Budget Games Ken Sim passes his โzeroโ budget, despite rising fees, higher police spending, and vague details. Eight political parties at City Hall accuse each other of spin while residents complain about affordability, crime, and basic services falling apart.
๐ต Park Board Fee Hikes Fees and parking costs at community centres, VanDusen Garden, and the Conservatory all go up โ while the Park Board insists itโs making recreation โmore affordable.โ The irony is not subtle.
๐ Crime Numbers Donโt Match Reality Eighty percent of residents donโt bother reporting break-ins or smashed windows. Vancouver Police drop 93,000 calls per year. Crime stats look rosier, but the streets say otherwise.
๐ณ๏ธ Election 2026: Pete Fry Rising, Ken Sim Falling New polling from George's new organization, AccountabilityVancouver.com, shows Pete Fry leading despite not announcing a run. Vancouver Conservatives poll strongly without a real party structure. Rebecca Bligh and others barely register. ABCโs support depends entirely on dumping or keeping Ken Sim.
๐บ๐ธ US Politics: Violence, Veterans & Chaos Two National Guardsmen are murdered in DC โ shortly after Trump called the city โthe safest place in America.โ Veterans warn service members not to obey illegal orders, Trump responds by calling them traitors, and the 2024 race grows more unstable.
๐ From a surprise Western pipeline deal to Vancouverโs crumbling services to another wild week in US politics, Episode 307 is packed.

Episode 306 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck delivers a full sweep of Canadian political drama โ from Parliamentโs budget brinksmanship to BCโs pipeline fight to Vancouverโs ongoing crime and budget struggles.
Hereโs whatโs in this weekโs episode:
๐จ๐ฆ Budget Day Theatre in Ottawa The federal government survives by the slimmest margin. Conservatives stall, the NDP abstains to avoid an election, and Elizabeth May steps in to keep Parliament standing. Even Richard Gere turns up in the middle of it all.
๐ Poilievreโs Numbers Slide Support drops while internal confidence wavers. The Conservatives donโt want an election, canโt afford one, and know the timing would hurt them.
๐บ๐ธ US Shutdown Ends Snowbird travel from Canada collapses as Canadians avoid the US. Florida officials openly beg us to return. Meanwhile, Trump unleashes personal attacks on reporters โ including the now-infamous โQuiet Piggyโ comment.
โ ๏ธ Epstein File Fallout More leaks, more denials, and a growing political storm on both sides of the border. Jody and George break down the power networks, the silence, and why this scandal will reshape politics.
๐ข๏ธ Pipeline War: Alberta vs BC A proposed AlbertaโBC pipeline triggers immediate opposition from Premier Eby and environmental groups โ even as some First Nations support it. Canadaโs economic future and energy security hang in the balance.
โก BC Drops EV Mandate The province backs away from its 2035 zero-emission vehicle commitment. Jody and George dig into the contradiction: blocking pipelines, scrapping EV rules, and still claiming to be climate leaders.
๐๏ธ Vancouverโs Budget Strain Simโs โzero increaseโ budget falls apart under questioning. Police spending climbs 4.8 percent, staffing grows, and residents face worsening conditions downtown.
๐ Crime and Disorder Dealers operating openly, buildings taken over, extortion spreading from Surrey, and almost no police presence. The crew explains how basic enforcement and street maintenance could reduce crime dramatically.
๐ณ๏ธ Vancouverโs Mayoral Race Grows Ken Sim plans to run again. OneCity introduces a new candidate. Greens make moves. Too many parties, too much confusion โ and voters feeling overwhelmed.
๐ From federal brinkmanship to provincial stalemates to Vancouverโs street-level reality, Episode 306 covers it all.

In Episode 305 of UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck, itโs a wild ride from City Hall to Washington, with detours through measles outbreaks, LNG politics, and billion-dollar hypocrisy.
Hereโs whatโs inside:
๐๏ธ Vancouverโs Budget Showdown โ 650 speakers lined up, 300+ have spoken, and nothingโs changing. George explains why these โconsultationsโ are theatre and why the cityโs budget has tripled since 2007 โ with little to show for it. ๐ฐ Zero Tax, Full Spin โ Remember Ken Simโs โ0%โ budget? Turns out staffing exploded by 750 people in three years. Policing alone costs $500 million โ nearly the cityโs entire budget back in 2007. ๐ Signs, Tickets & Bureaucratic Madness โ Too many bylaws, too few potholes fixed. From parking tickets to beach booze bans, Jody and George ask: when did common sense die in Vancouver? ๐ The Pool That Still Isnโt Open โ Another week, another saga. The aquatic mess continues while park board dysfunction deepens. ๐ฆ Measles Is Back โ Anti-vax spin from decades ago resurfaces, putting kids and vulnerable people at risk. Jody goes off on misinformation and the consequences of bad science gone viral. โก Carneyโs Big Bet โ The Prime Minister announces new fast-tracked infrastructure projects, including LNG and hydro expansion in BC. George calls it โfinally some movement,โ while Eby faces protests from within. ๐ฒ Environmental Divide โ First Nations say yes to development; activists say no to everything. The crew debates how Canada can grow responsibly without strangling itself in red tape. ๐ Ethical Oil & Global Reality Check โ Chinaโs going green faster than anyone expected. Canada still canโt build a bridge on time. ๐จ๐ฆ Pierre Poilievreโs Flatline โ Same slogans, new slump. Jody wonders if the opposition leaderโs message has expired. ๐บ๐ธ U.S. Chaos โ Government shutdown ends in surrender, Epstein documents keep leaking, and Washingtonโs hypocrisy hits new lows. George shares stories from the โfundraiser circuitโ that sound straight out of a Netflix drama.

This week on UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck, Vancouverโs city hall turns into a shell game, provincial politics melt down, and a 900-page court ruling shakes up land ownership in BC.
Hereโs whatโs inside:
๐๏ธ Ken Simโs Numbers Collapse โ New polls show the mayorโs support tanking below 20%. George breaks down ABCโs implosion and what the new โDeputy Mayorโ appointment really means. ๐ Sarah Kirby-Young Steps Up โ Sheโs now deputy mayor for the rest of the term. Promotionโฆ or setup for succession? ๐ฟ Pete Fryโs Green Ambition โ Backed by every level of the Green Party, Fryโs playing coy about a 2026 run while floating a youth vote motion that has Vancouver buzzing. ๐ณ๏ธ Voting at 16? โ Fryโs proposal to lower the municipal voting age sparks mixed reactions โ from parents to politicians. Jodyโs inbox explodes, and George calls it โa stunt with potential.โ . ๐ก City Staff Living Elsewhere โ Turns out a Vancouver councillor never lived in the city. Georgeโs take: โIf you donโt live here, you shouldnโt run here.โ ๐๏ธ Park Board Referendum Dead (Again) โ After endless debate, the province kills the vote citing First Nations consultation. The cityโs legal confusion deepens. ๐ Richmondโs Land Rights Bombshell โ A surprise court ruling grants ancestral claims to a large section of Richmond land, blindsiding homeowners and sparking outrage. Hereโs whatโs inside:
๐๏ธ Vancouverโs Political Freefall โ New polling shows Ken Simโs support collapsing, with only 30% of voters wanting him back. George breaks down why the mayorโs โsupermajorityโ has evaporated.
๐ฟ Pete Fryโs Green Tease โ The Green Party of Canada, BC, and Vancouver all back Pete Fry for a possible mayoral runโฆ but heโs coy about actually running.
๐๏ธ Housing Headaches โ Sim loses a key vote on creating a city-owned housing corporation after his own ABC caucus fractures. Should governments be building market rentals at all?
๐๏ธ Park Board Panic, Again โ Pay parking, paranoia, and people convinced Ken Simโs secretly plotting condo towers in Stanley Park. (Heโs not.)
๐๏ธ Surreyโs Stadium & Costco 2.0 โ Brenda Locke revives Doug McCallumโs dream project: a 10,000-seat arena and another Costco. Chaos meets construction.

This week, George and Jody wonder why government seems hell bent on trying to be a housing devloper. Leave business to business and focus on better approvals more and faster.
The prefect example is ICBA headquarters. Sold from the Crown Corporation to the province at 50 cents on the dollar. Now the province wants to turn the insurance brokerโs old office into social housing. Sure, sounds lovely. Or maybe a dumpster fire.
A new poll is out and NDP may be happy but itโs far from a done deal for the ruling party. The next election is shaping up to be a nail biter and right now it is nobodyโs and everybodyโs game for the win.

This week, George and Jody go full Kevin โฆ specifically and metaphorically. From BC United leader Kevin Falcon to other Kevins and other people who, when faced with personal brand and overall brand challenges, must decide if there is anything they can do to turn that brand frown upside down.
Of course, if you are a government, or governing body, clearly brand damage is not an issue because, if it were out of control, tax and fee increases that discourage building development would be something to care about. Clearly not in Burnaby, where a massive fee increase may cripple building and construction.
And in Surrey, the RCMP, which leads to George admitting something that pains him. What could it be? Tune in and find out on UnSpun with Jody Vance and George Affleck

This week, George and Jody take a deep dive into why the City of Vancouver, Park Board or government in general do not seem to get a handle on long-range planning and, in particular, why a pool in Vancouver can be so difficult to maintain. Is it the pool or the pool overlords? I think you know where this will go.
Meanwhile, bloated budgets in Vancouver are standard now and continue to cost taxpayers billions. But this week, the target is the mayorโs office and how one city councillor is calling bluff on Mayor Simโs largesse.
And finally, BC United and BC Conservatives. Maybe there really is a coalition? George has a theory. Tune in and find out what it is.

This week, George and Jody interrupt regularly scheduled programming for breaking news... that Trumps other news and is surely spinning heads.
After that โ itโs back to BC-based news, where a new political poll seems like the last poll that shows anything could happen this fall when BCers go to vote for their provincial government. But if you live in Surrey, you really may hold the balance of power.
Speaking of Surrey, now that a court decision says they need to stick to the plan to replace the RCMP, will Mayor Brenda Locke back down. Probably not.
And why, when the government fails to build a project on time and on budget, they point fingers and spin but never take the blame themselves? Bridges and tunnels over troubled waters for sure.

This week, some polls are in and if a provincial election were called today, the NDP would likely lose to a centre/centre-right party. But not if there are to two of them (which there are). Jody and George have some inside information on what this means and speculate on whether there will be a coalition of the right-leaning parties.
In Surrey, the polls are even stronger for the BC Conservatives. Could this be a backlash to the Surrey policing issue? We have a prediction on this along with an early call on who will win in October.โs provincial election. Yup โ you can hear it here first.
But before you take that to the bank, soft-on-crime initiatives are losing right across Canada. Residents, aka voters, are fed up with crime and drugs taking over neighbourhoods. Ontario is the latest to get hard on this issue. Good news or bad news?

This week, mergers and acquisitions in business are standard procedure. But in politics, itโs either a sign of desperation or a winning formula for electoral success. What will it be in BCPoli? With a mash up of BC United and BC Conservatives along with a dash of Mayor Brad West, the concoction is either madness or brilliance. Or just a bunch of BS.
Meanwhile, in Vancouver, Mayor Ken Sim makes a major flub in his leadership style and the โinvisibleโ opposition that can be found on X are going to town on him. Election 2026 has begun.

This week, Go Canucks Go! There is nothing to unspin there. But over at ICBC, we all get $110 back, but why canโt the good drivers be rewarded more and the bad drivers not rewarded at all. In Vancouver, politics are getting in the way of an upgraded seawall but hey, it involves Park Board, so itโs always about politics. And trouble in Delta where Mayor George Harvie has lost the trust of his Council. This puts Delta on the one-to-watch list for local politicos and journalists.

In BC drug decriminalization and the safe supply system are creating a whack-a-mole situation for police and local residents and debate is heating up politically in Victoria of their efficacy.
But you know โฆ Itโs an election year, everyone. And finally, app-gate in Ottawa, are the ArriveCan hearings more political theatre or a real issue that needs to be resolved.

This week, with one of the driest winters on record, BC is faced with a drought and fires this summer, are we prepared? Maybe the BC NDP government will spin their way out of that like they have when it comes to CleanBC-Gate, illicit drug dealers in hospitals, and Surrey Policing. This week, sigh, Vancouver Park Board. Jody and George are taking it on the "twitter" chin for being open about their opinions on the competence and quality of Vancouverโs parks. But while we wait for that, backroom political shenanigans in Surrey, Vancouver, and Victoria show us that there are cracks in the dominant, ruling parties that will have an impact on whether or not they can keep it all together.

This week, Jody and George dig into the politics of the Vancouver Park Board and the historic decision by the City of Vancouver to ask the Province of BC to dismantle the elected board. Will the province comply or leave Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim hanging and hung out to dry? Maybe. But the only question that should be asked is: Will Vancouver have better parks and recreation with the removal of what has become the most divisive, dare it be said, redundant, elected bodies in Canada?
But wait, there is more. Your tax hike in Vancouver got snuck in there with all the chaos of the Park Board debate and some good news: location restrictions for alcohol sales in Vancouver, a kind of prohibition, were lifted this week. All that and more on UnSpunpodcast.com

This week, Jody and George are 100% focused on the big news in Vancouver where the mayor announced a process to dismantle the elected park board, the only elected park board in Canada. This decision spiralled into some internal politics of the ruling ABC party in Vancouver, along with the formation of the pro-park board movement and the potential ramifications this will all have in the next election in Vancouver but also in BC. This week, Jody and George wonder if the people of Vancouver will receive an โemotional rescueโ after they read the details of Vancouverโs annual budget, which includes an almost 10% increase in spending and no restraint of any kind. Whyyyyyy? But one thing is for sure: Surrey will literally have to take a Vancouver-style budget to the bank when they see real policing costs, representing 23% of a $2 billion budget in Vancouverโthat is a lot of dough. And finally, speaking of emotional rescues, why does the latest video from Mayor Ken Sim about the Rolling Stones coming to Vancouver seem so cringeworthy? It does. This week, Jody and George celebrate (?) the one-year anniversary of Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and his ABC Vancouver partyโs sweeping victory. The reviews are in, and so far they seem to be on track, but is that mostly related to a train ride in Stanley Park? Heck, even if Ken Sim or any other mayor in the region wanted to claim victory for achievements, the BC Provincial government is stealing their thunder and their power after yet another major legislation change that impacts housing decision-making and how little municipal governments have a say in it. This week, Jody and George dissect how successfully the provincial government laid the groundwork through strategic communications โ aka SPIN โ prior to announcing and mandating that Surrey must move away from the RCMP and to their own police force. Clearly, some people are not happy, most notably the mayor of Surrey. And in Vancouver, the independent Park Board have their work cut out for them, removing/moving/changing bike lanes, saving fish, letting fountains flow, and commercially-run concession stands on the beaches (yes please).

Welcome to UnSpun - your current events podcast and YouTube show. Every week, Jody Vance and George Affleck unspin the latest news in local, provincial, and federal politics and much more.We are back after a three-week hiatus, and this week, Jody and George question the reasoning behind Surreyโs stubbornness to not accept or even seriously review the provinceโs recommendations related to the Surrey Police. Sticking with Surrey, some doctors there are saying they are being silenced, but the province says no way โ which is it? Meanwhile, in Vancouver, no fun city continues. Whomp whomp! And in America โ well, letโs just say politics are heating up, but can Twitter handle it? And while we have you โฆ in the park โฆ if you plan to take a dip in a pool, make sure you are properly dressed. Yup, Vancouver gets all prudish about swimwear โ itโs 4/20 one day and 1820 the other. And while we await the weather for swimmers, the BC Legislature got the headlines for heated debates. The newly named BC United found their wedge issue -- and itโs crime in BC. Welcome to UnSpun - your current events podcast and YouTube show. Every week, Jody Vance and George Affleck unspin the latest news in local, provincial, and federal politics and much more. This week, big moves on Vancouverโs downtown eastside as tents were finally removed from the sidewalks of the city. The decision by Vancouver City Council came after fires and violence threatened not only those camping there but the residents in the surrounding buildings. In Surrey and Vancouver, big budgets are in the news again. For Surrey, itโs because they await the decision by the province about the future of policing. This week, Jody and George go big or go home on the latest decision by the City of Vancouver related to the plans for Broadway in the city. The staff wanted to slow down. Council said no! While we are on Council in Vancouver, what is art? Do unsolicited sculptures of spiders count? Vancouver likely will be wrestling this arachnoid art piece to the death. And the federal budget came out. Big cut. Hey Vancouver, check it out. Cuts. What a concept.

This week, Jody and George get into the spies that love us and what impact they may or may not be having on local, provincial and federal elections; most recently, a story about the 2022 election in Vancouver is particularly concerning. This week, Jody and George give some long-awaited kudos to Vancouver Park Board for making the tough and politically charged decision to remove a massive and expensive temporary bike lane in Stanley Park and instead choose a process and good design for the future. The way it should have been done in the first place. At City Hall in Vancouver, a cup fee-free city and some long-awaited funding for keeping streets clean. Over in Victoria, David Ebyโs cabinet is handing out big bucks for all sorts of things, but the Premier is adamant that there is no election coming. Sure โฆ sure. What can taxpayers and businesses expect over the next four years? Meanwhile, in Surrey, what does the future hold for policing? George has a prediction. Wanna take a bet? This week it is Episode 202 โ Season 5! Jody and George ask why hundreds of thousands of dollars every year is spent on โmicro-cleaningโ (whatโs that exactly?) on Vancouverโs Downtown Eastside, yet things seem to get worse year after year. Then over at Park Board, cleaning up takes on a different meaning when the mess of bureaucracy and politics is what needs a make-over. And finally, tensions and pressure on politicians can take their toll. The announcement by New Zealandโs popular and internationally recognized Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that she is done with politics is a surprise and not a surprise. What to do? Stay off the roads, people. Meanwhile, over at the City of Vancouver, it is budget time, and big bucks may flow unless Mayor CPA, Ken Sim, can figure this massive, bloated mess out. This week, Jody and George are steamed about the second cancellation of the beloved Christmas train at Stanley Park. The decision is the last time the current Vancouver Park Board gets at messing up the parks in the city, and change, hopefully, is coming with a new and different elected board. Welcome to UnSpun - your current events podcast and YouTube show. Every week, Jody Vance and George Affleck unspin the latest news in local, provincial, federal politics, and much more.
This week, Jody and George are on fire. It is only one week to go to municipal elections, and anything could happen in Vancouver, Surrey and some other tight communities (White Rock, we are watching you). How did we get here, and what are some of the key things influencing the decision of who to vote for on Election Day? Endorsements? Ballot information? Over-the-top promises? No matter what, there will be winners and losers on October 15th, and the spin will continue before โฆ and probably after the election.

This week, early voting starts Saturday, October 1, for BCโs municipal elections, and Jody and George have some tips to consider before heading to the voting booth. They also get into the details of each Vancouver partyโs platform. Over at the provincial level, NDP leadership hopeful David Eby presents his aggressive plans for housing in BC, which includes overriding municipal powers, and yet not a peep from most of the municipal candidates across BC โ why is that? And โ Covid-free freedom. To mask or not to mask.

This week, Trudeau-mania part 2 โ or Queen-Gate โ but seriously, whatโs wrong with celebrating a life โ even if itโs the Queen of Canada? Meanwhile, over in the colonies โ random testing and ArriveCan are ending, and many people are happy while others continue with their conspiracies. But stop with your online hate at Jody โ please and thanks. And finally, tick โฆ tick โฆ tick โ it is almost municipal election time across BC. The ads are running, the doors are getting knocked, and the press releases full of โฆ ummmmm โฆ ideas are being delivered at breakneck speed. What fun.

This week, itโs go time with less than one month to go for municipal elections, and Jody and George get into the juicy backroom shenanigans of Vancouver and Surrey politics as well as some disturbing news from Brad West, the acclaimed mayor of PoCo. Meanwhile, the anointment, pretty much, of a new federal Conservative Party leader has media sitting up to see how much they will be the brunt of the attack as opposed to the elected representatives across the floor; and finally, BCโs Health Care system is in free-fall, and the NDP donโt have a plan. More studies, apparently.

This week, Jody and George start with the passing of the Queen. But what does this all mean for the future? How will King Charles III manage his communications, and will there be spin? Then itโs back home, where local polls show that Vancouverโs Mayor Kennedy Stewart remains the front runner to be re-elected, and his competitors are making little ground to change that. Rent controls in BC โ spin or pure socialism. George has some thoughts. And finally - which famous person follows you? We have a couple of names.

This week, Jody and George talk about the madness that is Vancouver politics. Party jumping, issue flipping, and general negative vibes all around. But who doesnโt love it. And itโs time to dig in with Election Day looming. Beyond the borders of the city, politicians feel threatened, and ARE threatened, just ask Canadaโs Deputy Prime Minister. And the end of Covid โฆwait โฆ the end of Covid?

This week, Jody and George go big or go home with the announcement by Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum that if he is re-elected in October he will build a 60,000 seat stadium. Spin, bravado, whatever you call it, it has people talking; then itโs a tour of some other municipalities like Delta and Burnaby and how they find ways to stand out; but in the end, itโs Vancouver and its whacky world of party politics which has no less than ten parties battling for control of the city. Talk about spin. All that and more on UnSpun Podcast.

This week, Jody and George get explicit with their words. But that seems to be going around in politics these days. Then itโs on to rumours of Vancouverโs oldest political party announcing a new leader to replace the recently departed John Coupar. That is really going to mess up the plans of some of the mayoral candidates who thought the NPA vote would go to them. Meanwhile, sitting mayor, Kennedy Stewart, is sitting pretty in a likely easy victory for him because the split on the right side of the political spectrum is between four people, and he is all on his own on the let. Over in Victoria, heads rolled in the BC Liberal caucus as one member went one step too far in the climate change denial file and leader Kevin Falcon gave the big boot to the caucus culprit. And in Healthcare, Minister Adrian Dix is predicting a dire fall ahead for all of us as hospitals deal with the potential influx of Covid patients and regular flu patients while also trying to operate with an ever-depleted system in need of an overhaul that does not seem to be coming. This week, Jody and George do a summer speed version of UnSpun and look specifically at the news in Vancouver, where politics is never boring. The departure of a high-profile mayoral candidate, the end of an era for the cityโs longest-standing political party, how all this might impact the outcome in October and what is really going on with the police presence on the Downtown Eastside as city staff endeavour to get the tent city moved out and the neighbourhoodโs sidewalks cleaned up. This week, Jody and George take a look at the latest poll in Vancouver that has pretty much every candidate in a dead heat for mayor. So good news Vancouver โ chaos continues. That said โ this could end up with a very interesting mix where the next mayor of Vancouver has absolutely no power โ even better news. Right? Of course not to disappoint, Park Board continues on its merry way of not keeping us cool when itโs hot thus making us lose our cool. How hard is it to plan for a few lifeguards when summer comes every year? Apparently for Vancouverโs Park Board โ very hard. All that and whole bunch more on the latest UnSpunPodcast.

This week, Jody and George can handle the truth and some criticism but can Vancouverโs Park Board โ seems not; the power of oil and anti-oil in a civic election โ the room is divided but should it be; BC is getting a new Premier but should it be more of a challenge than David Eby is having โ probably; and what are you willing to pay for a rock concert? We have our limits.

This week, Jody and George get their super soakers firing at the Vancouver Park Board for their consistent ability to always make the wrong decision for the people (and kids) of Vancouver; meanwhile, campaigning for the next civic election is heating up across BC so who will be the next mayors and councillors in your town โ we have some math for you to help you choose; and finally, Premier Horgan steps down but who and how will the void be filled, if at all.

This week, Jody and George look at the impact of cancelling the highly controversial, very unpopular rebuild of the Royal BC Museum and how the flip-flopping BC Premier might fair in the future of politics; then so much to talk about in Vancouver. A breakdown of the real impact of those who voted in support and those who voted against the massive Broadway Plan. It is an an election year and the vote on this project will benefit, destroy or maybe cancel some political futures in the city. Who will it be? Find out the answer to that and whole bunch more on the latest UnSpunPodcast.

This week, Jody and George weather the storm whether they like it or not. In Vancouver, the Mayor rehashes some old policies like they are new policies, which is the the ultimate cynical election spin; then โ thatโs not a knife, this is a knife โ the silliest twitter troll wars erupt so it must be an election year but the whole thing has one local influencer leaving the social media platform all together; The Broadway Plan is on the docket at city hall in Vancouver and there are 42 changes the council want to make โ one for every communications staffer working there; and finally, whatโs in a name? The BC Liberals will be asking supporters that and what they say โฆ goes.

This week, Jody and George debunk the decriminalization of drugs in BC and ponder whether gun control announcements were more about PR than actual policy-making; then itโs a look into how Vancouver and Surrey remain the hotspots for local politics with the fall election just around the corner; and in Vancouver, specifically, George has a solution to the Broadway Plan that may just work for everyone. Welcome to UnSpun - your current events podcast and YouTube show. Every week, Jody Vance and George Affleck unspin the latest news in local, provincial, federal politics, and much more.
This week, Jody and George get all hissy-torical when they dig into the decision by the BC NDP to spend $700 million plus on a new Royal BC Museum that nobody was asking for, saw coming or, apparently, even support. With zero transparency, the NDP find themselves digging a hole that could fit a few woolly mammoths.
Prime Minister Trudeauโs security detail pulled the plug on the PM attending a recent event in BC. These decision are not made lightly and the pressure politicians and other celebrities face seems to be heating up in Canada. Why is that?
And in Vancouver, a re-re-reannouncement of a big project must mean it is an election year. And the NPA, Vancouverโs oldest political party, announces its candidates and some details on its crime-fighting platform. Election Day is 5 months away but the โexcitementโ grows for what is sure to be the most complicated election ever.

This week, Jody and George are dumbfounded โฆ thatโs right โฆ by the shear political nightmare, the BC NDP have created for themselves with the rebuild of Victoriaโs Royal BC Museum. $700 million-plus โ come on. Of course, this gold-plated decision is political gold for Kevin Falcon, leader of the opposition.
Craig James, former B.C. legislature clerk, guilty of fraud, breach of trust wraps up a story UnSpun has been following since episode one โ and yes, we have some tummy troubles over it.
In Alberta, Premier Jason Kenney stepping down as UCP leader after narrowly getting the support of his party. Heโs no idiot โ leaving is his only way to save face. And finally in Vancouver โฆ oh Vancouver โฆ the hearings about the Broadway Plan have us scratching our heads and wondering โฆ what if this had happened two years earlier would it have been less contentious?
