I'm trying out a new format/series this week. Rather than discussing 10 or so films for an hour and a half, I'll discuss a three-minute scene from a 72-year-old film for fifteen minutes. But boy, was there a wealth of material to plow through. This is definitely recommended to Alice in Wonderland **stans and affionados.
Nearly everything shared is accurate except the chronology of English asylums. The first known facility was built in 1247. But the 19th century was really when patients began to be treated like human beings, so I'm not too far off. You go, Harriet Mattineau and John Conolly!!!

Our second adventure in the pre-Disney world takes us to 1908 France, where a princess lies in slumber for a hundred years. Joining me is friend Abigail Fine, and we cover a looooooooot of ground in terms of the fairy tale's history, the life of Charles Perrault, and our own ideas for a modern Sleeping Beauty.
When this podcast was conceived, explicit material was not in mind whatsoever.
But this month, Anni from Of Mice & Princesses and I talk SEX, DRUGS, and WONDERLAND. That's right; what started as a focused discussion on the 1903 Alice **later dissolved into a talk about the 1976 X-rated movie musical of the same name. It remains a fun, informative time, but uh... just know we are not above adult content here at DRtR.
