we as people have a habit of letting emotions lead us. Think about all of the big life changing events that you have participated in because of "how you felt", Relationships, jobs, cars, homes, vacations, religion, family, money, etc. We are quick to say "yes!" without thinking about the outcome, the journey, the consequences, the work and yes, even the risks involved. So when millions of people are saying "We are Charlie Kirk", they are proclaiming a courage to speak openly and honestly, even in hostile situations. Are we really that strong, or brave?

Chapter 1 from my book, do no harm. This chapter deals with how words and misguided intentions can cause harm.
My own exposure to death as a 9-year-old boy had a lasting effect on me. I have come to realize that the world can instill lasting harm by its words and actions.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk took place on the day we were set to release this podcast.
Charlie Kirk is dead. A 22-year-old man listened to all the wrong people and became convinced that Charlie was evil and needed to be silenced.
We at Compelled are deeply saddened by the loss of Charlie Kirk and felt this podcast "Speak no evil" was timely.

TRIGGER WARNING. This is suicide awareness month. If you were one of my followers on social media 7 years ago, you might've noticed each post started with a double-digit number. Each day the number got smaller. It was a countdown to the day I would commit suicide. Seven years ago, today would have been day 45. The irony that I was a pastor and I knew God. Yet I couldn't find the energy or a reason to keep going. Today's podcast is about changing your perception of the day from "I don't want to" to "I want to". Each day is a gift. How we approach each day, matters. Don't give up. Don't quit! you matter.

We only get one life on this earth. Each day is a gift. Sometimes the gift is disguised as an obstacle. That doesn't change the fact that it is still a gift. Your health, your finances, your relationships, or any other situation can still be used for good. We just have to decide to recognize the gift and do something with it.

Embarrassed and filled with stories of failure, I am sharing them with you to hopefully inspire you. We can have times in our lives where we feel like failures or covered in shame and mistakes. Almost like a pariah, (untouchable even). It takes a moment of surrender to escape the dark clouds and discover the amazing life that is waiting for each of us. We are not the sum of our mistakes. That isn't what defines us. He calls us His sons and daughters!

In lots of different times of life, we are faced with having to do what's needed to make it happen. For some reason we humans don't want to stand in the line that says, "do what's necessary" we want the line that says, "just wants to succeed." The easy button of life.

This episode of Diving Deeper is questions and answers about chapter 5 of the book Compelled. The Edge. What would it look like to break the mold for doing church? The Edge church was often compared to a bar, a night club and more than anything a comfortable place where everyone felt like family and learned about Jesus. People got fed physically and spiritually and it grew like wildfire.

We are going 100 MPH every day. We are missing the life we have been given. I always believed that I would live forever. I also believed that I was SUPPOSED to go as fast as possible every day and get whatever I could take. Until I figured out that was not what we are made for. It's not why we are here. You are made to notice the little things. To be part of what makes this world a better place.

We all have some ability to care, to be kind and to bring light to the world around us. We choose to listen to that calling or we choose not to. We can go to a church or a small group but never venture out into the world to "be the church" to "be like Jesus". We get one life, one opportunity to be the light. This episode of diving deeper is questions and answers on Chapter two of my book Compelled.

Disasters bring out all sorts of interesting people and situations. When we jump in without all of the details, it gets fun and interesting. God shows up. Recognizing that just because you are compelled to go and help others, doesn't mean that your friend or family or even your church carry the same passion. Just go.

We all hear a story or see a movie or read a book and find ourselves asking questions. Why did the person say that? Where did he hide the gold? Who was the killer? After putting out my book Compelled, some people had questions wanting to know more, the behind-the-scenes stuff. So, we are diving deeper and answering questions in this series of podcasts.

Final chapter of my book Compelled. The Dash is about choosing to live a life that matters and makes a difference in the world around us. It doesn't matter where we live or what our circumstances are, we can be a positive influence. The dash is the little line on our tombstone. It's found between the date we are born and the date we die. How we live out the dash, matters.

Here it is, Chapter 11 from my book Compelled. Send me is about the Lugnut principle and going on a mission in a third world country. Learning who we are as Americans and as Christians. Going from the land of plenty to a land of destruction and chaos. Smuggling for Jesus and more.

This is chapter 10 from my book Compelled. It's called Shine! (I could've called it, Avoid the Fun Police). This chapter looks at all of the ways we can get out there and shine and some of the obstacles (church). God gives us all talent and opportunities to reflect Him to the world around us. It's up to us to resist the urge of simply going to church and instead act on the urge to BE the church. Tear down the walls and get out there!

Me narrating chapter 9 from my book Compelled. Chocolate Cake! Who doesn't love that? Imagine if we looked at the gift of each day like homemade chocolate cake. We would jump up excited for that! There's way more to this chapter 9 but you get the point.

Swimming Back! chapter 8 in the book. It's about facing our embarrassing situations (like jumping out of a boat to try walking on the water to Jesus) Peter was "all in" until he wasn't lol. We all have failed attempts in our lives. It's okay. Just swim back to the boat and try it again tomorrow or the next day.

Forgiveness? failure? Where is my Grace? This chapter is called Plank-eyed Saints. I'm reading chapter 7 from my book Compelled. We seek healing and grace from the people who profess to love and follow Jesus yet are often blinded by their own "plank" and fall short when presented with an opportunity to heal the broken.

This episode of the compelled podcast is my reading of chapter 6 from my new book Compelled. Sundays with Matt. The pain of losing Matt combined with the Covid crisis affecting our church was beyond tough. Working in the hospital ICU and watching so many people die became unbearable. Life can hand us tough times, but God is exactly who He says He is and never leaves us alone.

Chapter 5 is one of my favorites! A gathering of people with only a desire to know Jesus and help others who were struggling in their lives with everything from church hurt to addiction, brokenness, and all of the usual struggles of life. They were the living version of God's "stone soup"! No fancy building or fixtures, just big hearts and open minds gathering in an industrial warehouse. Without the red tape and politics, a true revival of the inner-city community took place and God showed up!

Chapter 4 in the book is called Dry Ground. Courage and faith to keep going in spite of the obvious obstacles. Joshua 3 they arrive at the river to see it is at flood stage. and yet the lord says step off the bank. Sounds like a recipe for drowning. All of our journey will likely have obstacles that cause us to say "I don't think so", but if we can use our faith to keep moving forward, amazing things can happen.

I am reading chapter three from my new book Compelled. This chapter is called Giants. We all have a "giant" that tries to keep us from becoming what we are supposed to be. Pride, fear, addiction, toxic relationships, etc. Once we realize that the battle is not ours, (It's the Lords), it's a game changer! So, sit back and enjoy the read and when faced with a giant, throw your stone.

The number one mistake we make in life is letting pride lead our decisions. Imagine if we took the advice of people who have actually experienced success and failure in life? Business? Relationships? Parenting? Life? We often seek out the opinion of those who say what we want to hear. We could avoid a lot of heart aches and failures if we were willing to put our pride on a shelf and listen to those who have "been there". Living a compelled life means being humble enough to ask for advice or help, before the mess.

2025 is here! So, what's the plan? Lots of questions and very few answers. How do I make this year different? Should I buy a house? Start a relationship? End one? Look for a new job? Start a business? Try to be a better parent? Try to let God into my life? What if there's a disaster in my life? Do I have a plan? We all have doubts and questions, and we all make bad choices from time to time. This year can be different! It starts with a plan. We are NOT defined by our past.

We all have a situation where we were judged unfairly or verbally beaten down by someone who didn't have all the details of our situation. It can feel painful and leave us feeling broken. We have to remember that broken people will try to break others. "Hurt people, hurt people". We have to rise above it and move away from it. In order to keep shining, we need to avoid toxic situations and learn to live like Jesus and shine!

Saying yes to God when everything in your mind says, "don't do it".
It's that moment of reckoning where you can say yes and experience something amazing and unknown, or retreat to the safety of your comfort zone. You were made to do so much more than be comfortable.
To go deep in how we follow Jesus, we have to be willing to get out of the shallows. Grace, forgiveness and compassion require us getting out of our comfort zone (the shallows).
It is windows of opportunity. It is that moment when you cross paths with someone, not realizing that your last kindness with them might be the turning point. You might be the one. You might be the voice. You might be the reason that they choose to keep going. Maybe you're the person that needs to hear that. Maybe you need to know that grief is not a contest.
Don't sell yourself short. You may believe that just because you don't act or look like everybody else that you somehow have less value. Not true. He values you. He loves you. He loves to use people with a broken past to do amazing things. Be compelled to trust Him.
