OMG I cannot tell you how long I’ve wanted to attend the Margaret River Readers and Writers festival, and this year I did it!

I belong to a fantastic book club, (shout out to the girls in Big Knickers Book Club) and last year I suggested we go as a group to the festival. And then I made a serious boo-boo.

I double booked myself 😩

Which meant I couldn’t go with them, and I had a serious case of FOMO.

So this year, attending went on the Fifty at 50 list and was a non-negotiable.

I was looking forward to hearing from some of my favourite authors, getting some signed copies of their books, but what I wasn’t expecting was to come back with a burning desire to write my own novel!

In this episode I share how I pushed past fear to ask a question, got accidentally inspired and decided to write a novel!

I’ve always loved poetry, in fact throughout my life I’ve been the family poet for weddings, funerals and birthday speeches. I have an obsession with rhyming and am passionate about all things writing. But one thing I’ve never done is a poetry workshop and live reading.

So when I saw the Wilding Stories Poetry workshop at the Margaret River Readers and Writers festival, I jumped at the chance.

In this episode you’ll hear how this workshop helped me to express the emotional story of scattering my Dad’s ashes, how I moved past self doubt to read my poetry aloud to the room and hear a poem written on the day.

In this episode I’m joined by Petra Williams, my Shadow Coach and creator of Love Your Demons.

I wanted to interview Petra so you can hear from a shadow expert what’s going on within the world of shadow work. Although I’ve shared my personal experience of shadow work in Episode 9 (Meeting My Shadows), it helps to get a deeper understanding of shadow work from Petra so it makes more sense.

In this episode she explains what a shadow is, how we know if we need to work on our own shadow and why we would want to know those hidden parts of ourselves.

Petra shares a free tool for you to explore: How To Turn Conflict Into Harmony - her signature guide and audio training.

Find out more about Petra on her website - https://petrawilliamscoaching.com

What does 6 weeks of shadow work feel like? Has it made a difference to my life? And did I love it or hate it?

In today’s episode I’m answering these questions and more as I take you on a journey into my shadow work. You’ll get a glimpse into the dungeon, hear about some of my demons, and how it felt to come face-to-face with the uglier side of myself.

This episode is for you if you’ve ever:

  • Talked yourself out of speaking your mind for fear of upsetting people
  • Found yourself swallowing down your anger then feeling resentful
  • Worried about having a difficult conversation and avoided it for too long
  • Found yourself losing your shit out of the blue (and surprising yourself!)
  • Been narky and passive aggressive instead of direct and honest
  • Said yes when you wanted to say no and felt like a people pleaser

And if you live with someone like this, then this will be an eye opening episode for you too! Honest as always, raw and real, this episode is not to be missed.

Have you ever signed up to something and then wished you hadn’t? Well that was me in this episode as I recorded this before I started my course on shadow work.

I signed up for a 6 week course called Love Your Demons, which promised to provide an immersive shadow experience (yikes)! I thought it would be fun to record before and after episodes, so this episode was recorded 20 minutes before I started the course.

In it I talk about my fears and trepidations at exploring shadow work and my hope at what I'll get out of it.

I'm nervous. It took me 5 takes before I could find my flow. Why? Because I’m about to meet 7 total strangers and reveal to them the most hidden, dark and shameful parts of myself in the name of shadow work.

If you are wondering why I signed up for what sounds like a nightmare experience, then tune-in to this episode to find out.

‘You want me to record a mediation for you? Are you sure?'

I was running my third retreat last year and having led a group of business women through multiple meditations over the course of 4 days, I was still taken aback when they asked me to record one for them.

In this episode, I’m going to share with you what it took to finally get me to make that recording and the hilarious issues I had along the way!

First some background…

When it comes to meditation, I’m both new to it and well practised. Let me explain…

I was raised in a family where mediation was a part of daily life, but I have only developed my own daily practice over the last 6 months.

Up until then, although I loved the thought of it, I couldn’t find the time to commit and my thoughts would wander off in all directions and annoy me!!

After running retreats last year my perspective changed completely for two reasons: firstly I met a yoga teacher who shared with me a technique to observe my thoughts rather than get tangled up in them. And secondly, I realised that to lead a meditation/visualisation for others, my own practice was vitally important.

Not only did it give me more empathy and awareness, but when I intentionally worked on raising my own vibration, I was a better intuitive channel for others.

Although this features as episode 6, it started on 1st of January 2022 when I decided that I would challenge myself to go 30 days without alcohol.

Now, for those of you who are take-it-or-leave-it when it comes to a drink, I want you to imagine you’re giving up chocolate, sugar or one of your vices that you really enjoy.

I love a drink, although I don't count myself as a big drinker, I think nothing of polishing off a couple of bottles of wine over a weekend, plus the odd G&T for good measure!

What made me curious to give up my weekend wine indulgence was the thought that I was defining how much fun I had based on whether I could drink or not. So I decided to find out, can I still have fun without alcohol? And am I still fun to be around if I'm not drinking?

If you’re curious to know the answer, then tune in to this episode!

When you hear the words Tantric massage are you thinking…What is Tantric Massage? Does it involve nudity, partner swapping or kinky sex? Why would you do it? And how did you convince your husband to come along? 😳😂

In today’s episode I’m pulling back the curtains on our Tantric massage workshop experience to reveal everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask about Tantra!

Background

We attended the Sanctuary of Ananda to learn the art of Tantric An Mo Massage from Cathy Wood. My paths crossed with Cathay over 4 years ago in a business setting and since then I've always wanted to explore tantric teachings. This year, I put this Tantric massage workshop on my Fifty at 50 list and gifted it to Simon as a Christmas present (he couldn’t exactly say no to that, right!?)

Beliefs

Simon and I didn’t really know anything about Tantra before attending the workshop and left feeling incredible gratitude for the experience. Regardless of our differing spiritual belief systems, (Simon believes in spreadsheets and poof and I’m all about the intuitive and esoteric) we would both highly recommend the workshop to couples who want to feel more connected. Adventure #3 was way more confronting than surfing! I’ve wanted to lead a women’s circle for a long time, but self doubt has been holding me back. Now it’s on the Fifty at 50 list, I have given myself permission to experiment, remove expectations and have a go, which is exactly what I did.

If you’re curious to learn exactly what a women’s circle is, how it relates to the moon and what goes on inside a circle, then this episode is for you!

Item #2 on the Fifty at 50 list is to learn surfing, and to say I didn’t relish the thought of this would be an understatement!

It was 16 years ago that I first said I wanted to learn to surf, but then I saw the size of the waves, heard more about the 🦈 and thought better of it!

In this episode you’ll hear from me immediately after the lesson, sharing the fears (unfounded) and highs (lots) of getting on a board and having a go!

Massive shout out to Salt and Mantra who made this lesson possible! Check out their Instagram page here!

Kicking off the Fifty at 50 list with item #1 - The Old Soul’s Guidebook, by Ainslie Macleod was the best decision ever. I wasn’t sure whether to make this the #1 item on my list, but it’s no coincidence that it ended up there after I received it for Christmas.

If you’ve ever been curious about why you’re here, past lives or your soul purpose, then you’ll love this episode. In it I’m unpacking my a-ha moments from The Old Soul’s Guidebook and exploring the impact it had on me. In particular I'll be talking about your soul personality and how this understanding changed everything for me.
