As a Rotarian I am making a difference not only in Chicago but internationally we are building a library in Sierra Leone and my daughters and I are going to Africa for the ribbon cutting. Through this trip, we are changing our family's future for generations. Having faith is a real thing. Tuesday my husband had lung cancer, today he doesn't. They removed all the Cancer, and no Chemo or radiation was needed. God still performs miracles. What have you struggled with or overcome to be and do what God called you to do? Be willing to serve God out loud. What I mean is I have always been a servant in the sense of helping others and I know that is ministry. Yet, answering the call to minister the Gospel of Jesus and inspire others to follow had been something I have been afraid of. Feeling unqualified, and ill-equipped, other people are better.

LaShaundra McCarty grew up in Gulfport, a Coastal community in Mississippi. At the age of 9, she made a proclamation. Yes, a proclamation that she would travel around the world. In her twenties, she lived in 12 cities and took several life-changing international trips including a homestay with a family in Morocco. Those experiences grew her appreciation of language, culture, and the artistic ways people express themselves. After graduating from seminary, LaShaundra went to Johannesburg to serve as a short-term missionary. When having to decide whether to stay abroad or return to the States, she chose to return. In 2009, the recession threw her into the world of entrepreneurship. She leaned on her degrees in media production (B.A. in Television Production from the University of Central Florida and Master of Arts in Digital Media Production from Emerson College) to develop marketing and social media campaigns for organizations. This led to consulting, workshops, keynotes, and online training. She uses these experiences as Gulfport’s Public Information Officer to create transformative connections between the community and the City, as well as, in her podcast UNbound Creatives, which offers a platform for artists to share their stories.
