In more creatively titled episodes, in this one, we are going to look at the Velocity formula which is derived from one of the kinematic equations for motion, and see how it compares to a combined speed from kinetic energy. We will also look at a formula that may be new to you as well.
In a play on letters, here comes Episode 07, What the "f" where we are going to wind down our look at Minimum Speed by examining the drag factor. What is it, is it different than a coefficient of friction - if so how, and how sensitive is it to the calculation of speed.
This time on the Crash Training Podcast we look at the same slide to airborne scenario as last time, but work the problem in kinetic energy. A much easier calculation in our opinion.
As we continue our look at the minimum speed equation, in this episode we take on a car that does not slide all the way to a stop on one surface but instead slides across two surfaces before going airborne.
In this edition of the Crash Training Podcast we start to take a deep dive into the minimum speed equation. In episode 4 we are going to look at what is actually being calculated with the minimum speed equation to help you understand how the formula is really calculating a Kinetic Energy Equivalent Speed. In the next few episodes we will expand and show how this KEES calculation can be combined with impact speeds or other KEES calculations to do determine the speed at the start of an event. We will also take a look at how sensitive the formula is to minor changes in the drag factor or distance.
In Episode 3 of the Crash Training Podcast we are going to take a different look at inline momentum. Most investigators are familiar with the inline momentum formula which requires them to calculate both post-impact speeds along with the struck vehicle being stopped at the time of impact. But what do we do in a rear inline crash when we can only calculate the post-impact speed for the struck vehicle?
