Hi! We're Clarence and DJ Noona, creators and hosts of Up in the Air. Our show started out in a small university radio station, where the mics never quite worked and the computer chairs leaned a bit too far back. But now in this uncertain time of Covid, we have moved online and into the podcasting world! Up in the Air is a space filled with our thoughts, moods, and experiences on the personal, political, and cultural world around us. Alongside a special guest each show, we invite you to listen and float along.
Yo! Welcome back to another episode of Up in the Air! Today we're joined by a very illustrious guest and friend of the pod, Jordan Nicholson! He's a seattle-based artist, photographer, and cosmic being who has worked with creatives all over the world such as Jay Park, Pharrell Williams, and companies like Apple and JBL Audio. All the while Jordan is working on a million different exciting projects, he has always been a huge part of the community — working with local businesses like lil woody's and alive and well! More recently, Jordan has launched a beautiful clothing brand with a few of his friends in the South Seattle called Paradice Avenue South which we are so very big fans of!
This week, we are so excited to be joined by the very talented and friend of the pod, Vivian Mak (@vivianlmak)! She's a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and painter with undeniable style who is currently rounding out her undergrad and working as a multimedia designer at The Jacob Lawrence Gallery (@jacob.lawrence.gallery). Not only does she create amazing designs, including a beautiful poster series about introspection entitled, Image and Imagination, Vivian is one of the most down to earth folks we know!
We had a blast talking about her creative process, the importance of introspection, what her crazy dreams might mean, fighting capitalism, and more. This was our first episode recorded at night, so thanks to Vivian's suggestion, we made it a happy hour!

Hey! We're back from our short break. Today, we're happy to be joined by the wonderful Hoa Hong! She's an artist and designer based out of Seattle. If you're a local in the city, chances are you may have already come across her beautiful art! Her work has been featured by the likes of Billboard Magazine and XXL Magazine, and she has completed murals in cities all across the country. We dove deep into how Hoa got her creative start, from discovering her passions for art by chance to her crazy night with the late, Nipsey Hussle. Today we're joined by the wonderful Kam Schalk! Kam is someone we had the pleasure of officially meeting for the first time, but it's definitely not the first time we've heard about this kind soul. She's a fellow student at the UW, a proud member of the arts and entertainment family, and a vlogger, who just hit 12 thousand subscribers! Over the past year, Kam has been documenting her journey with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, giving her viewers a vulnerable look at every step of road to recovery.
For this week's episode, we're joined by a friend of the pod, Ariel Chan! She's a designer who graduated from the UW Visual Communication Design program in 2020 and has since then ventured home to Hong Kong where she explored the world of freelance design. Most recently, Ariel has joined the world renown creative consultancy, Lippincott, in London as a design intern!

His recent short film documentary shares the story of his badass boss Thai grandmother and her pork sausage business. The film beautifully captures home, family, and the Asian American experience. Having Rhe on the show was long overdue, so we were happy and excited to finally sit down with her and talk about everything from art and design, creating a podcast amidst a pandemic, and some of her favorite movies and shows that she binged this past break.
This week, we're joined by two very special friends of the pod, Gaby and Spencer! We've had the pleasure of meeting Gaby and Spencer last summer as we started working with Arts and Entertainment, otherwise known as A+E. Gaby is the marketing coordinator at A+E, a business major, film nerd, and she got mad moves for days which you can see for yourself on her IG! Spencer is the director of A+E, studying sociology, and the manager of the crazy talented band, I///U. It was so fun to start off the year with these two, discussing A+E memories, favorite films, music, and everything in between. We hope you enjoy!

What fueled this episode was Elaine's brilliant food Instagram page, @imstresscooking, which she recently unveiled to the public. Her dishes are insanely beautiful, and of course, mouthwatering, all of which she captures in the comfort of her own home with an iPhone. It was so fun to finally sit down with Elaine and talk about her college experiences abroad, the uphill battle of being an art major, the philosophy behind her food page, and more!
