What a beautiful night at Granfalloon with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings on July 18! Our WFHB fans helped keep the crowd cool until the sun went down, and it was clear that Bloomington holds a special place in their hearts—they spent time playing here early in their career and even gave a shoutout to Bloomington’s cool radio stations. We like to think that includes us!
These photos are by Anna Powell Denton, who captured the night beautifully.
See you back at Switchyard Park on August 29 for Granfalloon in collaboration with Secretly 30, featuring Durand Jones & The Indications, Angela Autumn and Jensen McRae. Find us on the hill under the red WFHB tent and come say hi!

We rang in the new year with a WFHB Firehouse Session featuring Tre. Charles on January 29th!
Hosted by our General Manager Jar Turner, this first session of the year took place in the air room while our main studio was under renovation. The close, pared-down setting gave the session an intimate feel, letting Tre. Charles’ songs and presence really come through.
It was a beautiful session and a great way to kick off a new Firehouse Session season!

On May 21, 2026, Chicago alt-country band Case Oats stopped by the WFHB Firehouse ahead of their show that night at The Bishop. Led by Casey Gomez Walker and featuring Spencer Tweedy (drums), Max Subar (guitar and pedal steel), Jason Ashworth (bass), and Scott Daniel (fiddle), the band joined us for three songs and a conversation about their acclaimed debut album, “Last Missouri Exit,” Midwest storytelling, and the collaborative spirit that has made them one of the most exciting new bands in alt-country.
Simply put, this was one of the tightest bands we’ve ever had in the Firehouse. Their chemistry is undeniable, and hearing these songs performed live in our studio was something special. Thanks to Case Oats for spending the afternoon with us—and thanks to everyone who made it to The Bishop later that evening to welcome them to Bloomington.

Tune in on Thursday October 26th at 2:00 PM EST for our Firehouse Session Interview with indie folk viral sensation, Daniel Nunnelee.
With the arrival of his self-released breakout single “Pick and Choose” in 2022, Memphis-born singer/songwriter Daniel Nunnelee introduced the world to his sweetly offbeat and soul-baring form of folk/indie-rock. An instant viral sensation that amassed over a million streams in just ten days, “Pick and Choose” soon led to the making of “June, Baby”: a strangely enchanting debut album revealing both his old-soul sensibilities and wide-eyed perspective on finding your way in the world. With its title nodding to his birthday month and to the duality he embodies as a quintessential Gemini, June, Baby explores such emotionally heavy… It’s in rotation currently at WFHB!
Daniel will play us a few songs ahead of his show that night at The Bishop. Mark your calendar and don’t miss it!

Tune in on Saturday, September, 28th at 2:00 PM EST for our Firehouse Session with Bloomsday! The way Bloomsday’s Iris James Garrison writes songs feels like somewhere between a mirror and a memory. Spacious, full-bodied folk songs, they are an ode to things that are good no matter how small; they sometimes feel like the ghost of a Mary Oliver poem. Bloomsday’s new record, ‘Heart of the Artichoke’, is a relic of unfettered creativity and community. They recount the miracles of the mundane, the memories that become sacred, an ode to all that is holy: nightswimming, songs plucked from the ether, the ways friendship can endure.
Host and Music Director, Abby Noroozi, will chat with the band and they’ll play us a few songs ahead of the show that night at The Bishop. Don’t miss it!

Tune in on Thursday June 27th at 4:00 PM EST for our Firehouse Session with Austin indie rock band, Good Looks!
Good Looks write kindhearted and cathartic rock songs about the persistence required to make it through hard times. In April 2022, the Austin, Texas quartet released their critically acclaimed debut Bummer Year, which channeled post-2016 frustrations into lyrically generous and biting tracks. Immediately after their triumphant hometown record release show, tragedy struck. Walking outside the venue, lead guitarist Jake Ames was hit by a car crossing the street, fracturing his skull and tailbone. Following a necessary period of healing and processing which found him in the ICU and dealing with short-term memory issues, Ames recovered. The traumatic accident strengthened their bond, which is evident on their electric new album Lived Here For A While, currently in rotation at WFHB. Out June 7 via Keeled Scales, it’s fearlessly direct music that captures the full-throated intensity of their galvanizing live show.
We can’t wait to have Good Lucks live in the WFHB studio before their show that night at The Bishop. Don’t miss this one!

Tune in on Friday at 4:00 PM EST for our Firehouse Session with Laney Jones and The Spirits!
Cutting their teeth on mics literally and metaphorically across the US for the past decade, Jones’s free-wheeling, do-it-yourself lifestyle is the stuff of modern folklore. With few prospects when the Florida-raised couple first moved to Nashville in 2017, they made rent by stacking beers at the local Piggly Wiggly.
Catchy, yet raw and arrestingly sincere, it’s no wonder Jones’s cult following has been steadily growing since the release of their seminal record Stories Up High (2022) produced by Andrjia Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Langhorne Slim) of the famed Bomb Shelter in East Nashville. Though the record wrestles with themes of depression and the meaning of life, the vibes are more bittersweet than sad.
Laney Jones has recently released 2 stunning new singles, Stay at Home and Say Yes via AHPO Records. Don’t miss this session! And go see Laney Jones and The Spirits yourself at The Orbit Room that night!

https://wfhb.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Tre-Burt-Full-Session-5.mp3On Friday, May 17th Tré Burt joined us for a Firehouse Session! We chatted with us about his third album, Traffic Fiction that came out on Oh Boy Records and an unexpected musical reinvention rooted in his new and idiosyncratic version of classic soul. We learned about how he accidentally learned to play the guitar and how important his grandfather was to his musical development.
He was in town for the Cosmic Songwriter Festival and played a showcase at The Blockhouse.

On Monday, April 15th, 2024 country music star, Mason Ramsey joined us in our studio for a Firehouse Session with host, Abby Noroozi. They chatted about how his life changed after someone posted a video of him yodeling in Walmart when he was 11 years old and what it’s like to have millions of followers on social media. Mason shared about his very first public performance at Tootsies in Nashville at 3 years old and what it was like playing The Grand Ole Opry with his grandparents in the audience. He gave us an incredible stripped down performance of Blue Over You, his brand new single Something You Can Hold, and the upbeat How Do I Know If I’m In Love and promised to come back to WFHB if he’s in Bloomington again! It was a very special session.

Join us on Friday, May 24th at 4:00 PM EST for a Firehouse Session interview with Geese! Host Jim Quinn will have an intimate chat with the band and play some songs from their newest album, 3D Country!
Geese is composed of vocalist Cameron Winter, guitarist Gus Green, guitarist Foster Hudson, bassist Dom DiGesu, and drummer Max Bassin. Their new album 3D Country is the sound of a restless, adventurous band redefining themselves. While writing 3D Country, Winter was preoccupied with “modern doom,” the way climate change and all manner of looming catastrophes hang on the horizon while we otherwise go about our lives.
See Geese that night (5/30) at The Bishop!

Tune in on Thursday, May 16th at 4:00 PM EST to hear our Firehouse Session with Gabe Lee! Equal parts classic songwriter and modern-day storyteller, Gabe Lee has built his own bridge between country, folk and rock. Storytelling has been an anchor of Lee’s music since the very beginning. Raised by Taiwanese parents in Nashville, TN, he left home during his teenage years and headed to Indiana, where he obtained college degrees in literature and journalism. Lee launched his career as a genre-bending musician after returning to Tennessee, quickly progressing from dive bar gigs to high-profile opening slots (including shows with Jason Isbell, Los Lobos, and other artists who, like him, blurred the lines between roots-rock, country, and other forms of American folk music) to his own headlining shows. Throughout it all, he drew upon the narrative skills he’d sharpened as a student. If albums like Honky-Tonk Hell and The Hometown Kid often unfolded like autobiographical entries from his road journal, then Drink the River shows an even broader range of his storytelling abilities. Lee isn’t just writing songs about himself; he’s writing songs about all of us. And maybe, in doing so, he can bring us a little closer together.
Join us in-studio for an intimate conversation and performance as part of our Cosmic Songwriter Festival Firehouse series. See Gabe Lee perform that night (5/16) at The Bluebird.

Tune in on Wednesday, May 15th at 4:00 PM EST to hear our Firehouse Session with Spectator Bird! Sisters, Rachel and Lindsey FitzGerald, make their home in the mountains of Virginia, where they also host the Spring Creek Supper Series, a celebration of community and music. Together they’ve hewn out a sound that is at once honest and elegant, sincere and captivating. Weaving sibling harmonies with award winning songwriting to produce a tapestry of sound as ancient and ambient as the hollows themselves.

WFHB and the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation have always shared close ties with each other and the Bloomington community. Our first broadcast hit the airwaves in 1993; Lotus threw its first festival a year later, bringing culture bearers from around the world into various Bloomington venues, including the WFHB studios. Now, a small team of Lotus staff is chronicling those years with the initiative Lotus@30. Project co-managers Jeremy Reed and LuAnne Holladay dropped by the Firehouse to talk about the work they’re doing, institutional memory, and how community members can get involved.
For more information on how to participate in Lotus@30, contact Jeremy Reed at 30yearsoflotus.projectmanager@lotusfest.org.
Keep up with all Lotus projects and events at https://www.lotusfest.org/ or on Instagram @lotusindiana.

https://wfhb.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Making_Movies_WebPost.mp3On Thursday, April 4th Enrique Chi from the Kansas City, MO based band Making Movies joined us in the studio for a WFHB Firehouse Session. He talked about the mejoranera, a small Peruvian guitar-shaped instrument made out of one piece of wood and nylon strings, that he was playing and talking on tour. He also spoke about the band’s outreach with kids via Lotus Blossoms. The biggest surprise was the Tears for Fears cover on the mejoranera! It was an incredible interview and performance. Not to be missed!

- Producer – Abby Noroozi
- Session Host – Nicki Seven

https://wfhb.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Web-Post.mp3On Tuesday, March 19th the band FRUITION joined us for Firehouse Session in-studio interview and performance! They brought their three-part harmonies from the Pacific Northwest to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and they stopped by WFHB before their show! Their remarkable 15-year journey has seen them emerge as a singular force in the world of Americana on some of the nation’s biggest stages. Channeling the delicate, playful, and honest focus on songcraft and vocal harmony of groups like the Beatles and CSNY, the band continues to create timeless and genuine folk, roots, and rock ‘n roll.

- Producer: Abby Noroozi
- Session Host: Jim Quinn
- Engineers: Mike Chrastil, Clara Preske, & Christy Crandall
