Demonstration of the Sankor 16D Anamorphic lens on (not really) the Sony A7ii. Lens whacking is holding the lens a few millimetres away from the sensor. It warps the light, gives weird bokeh and gives off a tilt shift effect.

This was a commisioned commercial for UK Terrariums I made. It features a lone explorer in the Lusan National Forest. He is looking for the lost city, but is he really in the wilderness.
A blend of live action and stop motion animation was used to create this film.

When lockdown hit in the UK, and Scotland, months too late we all knew we were in for a ride. Beautiful spring and summer, hindered by not being able to see friends or family or go off on weekend trips with the tent. For me, I decided it was time I learnt a new aspect of film making.
I always loved stop motion. Fantastic Mr Fox, by Wes Anderson and the Ardman team is one of my top films.
I invested in the best software going, Dragon Frame 4, which is what Wes and the Team used in that film and Isle Of Dogs, on top of that I invested $40 into the cheapest and beatest camera that was compatible with the software. A Canon 100D made in 2005.
I have since upgraded to the GH5 for animation, however I haven't yet got round to testing it out. I have done a few decent jobs over the course of the pandemic, there is always something you can do to provide for your family in this new and exciting world, and with Blockchain making its return those opportunities are everywhere.

A nice test of a Sankor-16 Anamorphic lens that is over 60 years old. I attached it to my Sony A7ii using a vintage Takumar 105mm lens. Anamorphic is the choice of framing for most Hollywood films including The Dark Knight, ect ect.

I was out testing the BMPCC in Glasgow and I wanted to share with all you fine folk the results. It is such a wonderful camera. It can now be picked up for very cheap, sub $400 on eBay, no problem.
Have you been to Glasgow? I live in Edinburgh but I love a trip through, shame the lockdowns are stopping me feet from moving far.
It won't last forever though.

This is a short film I made by strapping a GoPro to one of my dogs. Regular readers will know their story. hey were rescued in India, badly beaten and sick. They mad a stunning recover and now live in Scotland with us. It was a long journey but we made it.

I created this music video during lockdown. It was shot almost entirely under the waves of a disused Quarry/ Mine that is now under water and is a public Loch/ Lake, whatever you want to call it. The song was created by Dan Barr, a Scottish musician and the video was commissioned in early 2020. It is about a friend who sadly passed away, the song and video are a final send off for his soul.
Put on some headphones and sit back and remember a lost friend, family member or love. Apologies for the 720p upload, hard drive issues...

A full 50ft reel of Kodak Vision 50d Super 8mm film shot on my old Leicina Super RT1 super 8mm camera built in the 1950's.
I love Super 8mm, I use it in weddings and documentary film making to convey nostalgia. Like 35mm photography, my choose format, it just looks nice. The skins toes are perfects, the dynamic range is not comparable to digital, it is on another level. You are after all capturing light on a sensitive plain. Unlike digital imaging which essentially is trying to mimic the chemical process.
How Much Does It Cost?
Well, It's not cheap. The camera was $85, which is a bargain for a vintage Leica product. However you can pick up a working S8 camera on eBay for under $20. The real cost factor is the film, process and scan of your images. A 50ft roll of film in the UK costs about $30, and it's about the same for the developing and again for the scanning of your reel. However, most places that specialise in film will offer a package. I pay £50 in the UK (about $60) for an all-in-one package. This guarantees I have no additional costs one the reel is in my possession.
Why not just use filters?
Vintage is hipster these days and has been for quite sometime now. Yes, you can produce convincing fakes using digital photography but it will never quite be the same. The whole process of shooting on film is an artform in itself, and this fact affects what images you get. You can't get nillly-willy with film unless you love burning up cash.
I hope you like the reel. Let me know what you thought of the images, and remember they aren't meant to sharp, they are meant to be artist and experimental, that's what Super 8 is all about.

A short film about a desolate piece of Jenga who lives alone with his pet Peg Clippie and his Fish O.J. The film is a demonstration of the condition Capgras Delusion, in which someone believes a person or animal close to them has been replaced by an imposter.
The film literally took weeks haha, didn't quite know what I was getting myself into. I build all the sets out of trash and things from my sons bedroom.

This is a visual story of the first two years of my dogs life. We rescued him in India, alongside another called Bella, who you will see in the film. It was a massive effort getting them here. The UK government are pretty nasty when it comes to bringing animals home from what they regard the third world. However, these two are a delight.
