Quickie picks as we survey the probable field for Saturday, June 25thâs Mother Goose, a G2 stakes race at Belmont for 3 year-old fillies at 1 & 1/16 miles on the dirt (as God intended).
This may be the comfort food and stretchy pants of the racing weekend, but we donât have time for anything else, so here goes!

5:41 We both đ the adorable Jujuâs Map, a favorite since the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies. In good health, Brad Coxâs filly is best in class and at this length, we think.
9:04 Chad Brownâs Gerrymandered might be mis-matched, since sheâs never competed at this length. Is this an experiment?

Forget the complaints about small fields, there were almost no undercards, the calliber of horses and races were so good!
3:03 Fridayâs Race 9, the True North G2 showed what a baller (and a boy) Jackieâs Warrior is.
5:15 Fridayâs Race 10, the New York G1, had 4 Chad Brown entries, including the great Bleecker Street, Family Way (an Uncle Mo kid) and Flighty Lady, who came in for Trixie.
8:15 Saturdayâs Race 2 was an allowance where Weej won with Uncle Moonlight, progeny of⌠who else?!
8:43 R3, the Acorn G1, ended up with the 4 horses of the Apocolaypse after Echo Zuluâs late scratch. Matareya dominated.
10:21 The Just a Game G1 turf, R4, offered a nice story for Peter Brant, owner of Just a Game,and now, of winner Regal Glory.

8:00 Del Marâs RACE 5 was the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint (G1) for $1M. At five furlongs with 18 horses, we expected loads of scratches. 12 horses finally ran. Weej đGolden Pal and Lieutenant Dan. Trixie actually listenedâthis exacta won!

Del Marâs RACE 7 was the Breeders Cup NetJets Juvenile Fillies (G1), covering a length of 1 & 1/16 miles on a dirt track for a total $2 million dollar purse. (If the race doesnât specifically say itâs on turf, the default track surface in the U.S. is dirt.)
These 2 year-old fillies really looked young and adorable! Echo Zulu and Jujuâs Map were speedballs to watch for the future!
11:06 Del Marâs RACE 8 was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), covering 1 mile for $1M. Longer-shot Pizza Bianca, chef Bobby Flayâs horse, came in and blew up our horizontal wagers (Pick 3, 4, etc.) đ

The result was a No Contest ruling with an ALL PAY for the Pick 6 mandatory payout, which certainly dissatisfied some bettors. Was it small-track shenanigans or just a mistake in automatic lighting settings after the daylight savings time change?

After a crazy, bittersweet day of races at Arlington Park (soon to be RIP), weâre heading into this weekend with a hodge-podge of lord-only-knows in a punchbowl. This strange ârecoveringâ race season is really pretzel-twisting the stakes falling between the biggies for a variety of reasons, and dominant winners scare fields away, too. So we find ourselves with more weird fields and more tough decisions we wonât be able to make until race time.
