For a few brief strokes of a pen, a signature carries a lot of weight in human society. Before pens were a readily available tool, people used stamps for the same purpose. In the wake of tragedy, it can be really difficult to reconcile the hope we have in our faith with the hopelessness and powerlessness we feel. But even there, in the darkness, God is reaching out His hand to us, offering us truth and life. Granted, neither of those things can really make us feel better in the moment - but with understanding, there is something more profound than comfort to be found: hope.
