After years of experience as a recruiter, trainer, consultant, and coach, Diana Cregan developed a program to support Moms who are ready to go back to work. First there is the fear of the unknown, trying to identify their value outside of the home and then figuring out what they might enjoy doing. Second, there is the tactical hurdle of having an employment gap or limited to no work experience. Diana helps women re-define their identity and get set up for success in the job market.

"I think this is one of the most underestimated group of potential candidates in the market, and an important issue that needs to be addressed."

We often say, “Thank you for your service” to people we learn to be veterans. As a veteran myself, I always respond with the innocuous “It was my pleasure.” But what does it really mean when you thank a veteran for their service? Sometimes it just seems like the easy thing to say. Or maybe it is just a cultural norm that has lost some its meaning. Maybe it is just one of those politically correct things we say, not to feel embarrassed.

Consider this:

When you say, “Thank you for your Service,” it means you are thanking a person for raising their hand when the nation called. For giving up their own freedom to protect yours. For waking up so early in the morning that by the time you got up, they had already accomplished a full day’s work. And when you went to bed, they were still on patrol. You are thanking them for giving up time with their families, or even having families of their own, missing every holiday, every birthday, every milestone moment in their kid’s lives. You are thanking them for giving up their prime years to serve the country and the world.

Memorial Day is a special time to reflect on those who stood tall and gave the ultimate sacrifice. Not just those suffering from PTST, or having phantom pains from a missing limb, but the most final of sacrifices, they gave their lives. Memorial Day is a day when we, as a Nation, celebrate all the heroes how died in the field, at home and abroad, from the Revolution to the current conflicts across the globe. It is a solemn day, filled with picnics and BBQ’s, kickball games and bounce houses, just as every one of those fallen men and women would have wanted it.

Next time you feel it necessary to thank a veteran, don’t just say it. Look them in the eye, shake their hand, and ask them about something more specific. You might say, “What branch did you serve in?” or “Where were you deployed, what was it like?” or maybe, “What was your job?” These kinds of connections have a much greater impact and will lead to a more meaningful interaction. In the end, be sincere and let them know that you understand their sacrifice and that you truly appreciate all that our military community has provided to our society over the past 245 years.

Happy Memorial Day and Never Forget.

I want to give you the same advice I offered her, so if you are having trouble getting to an offer, visit the link in the description to read my article, ’10 Steps to Crushing a Job Interview’.

Thank you for listening. Our first full episodes are in production. Now is the time to subscribe on Anchor, Spotify, or your podcast platform of choice and Follow the conversation on LinkedIn.

Hi everyone, thank you for joining me on A Peek Behind the Curtain. I’m Ben Passman.

Recently a friend asked if I could look over her resume. She told me she was unhappy in her job and was looking for a change. In her situation, she was wearing a lot of hats, responsible for a several important business processes. She felt unappreciated and under compensated. On top of that, her boss would call her in the evenings and on weekends to deal with stuff that could easily have waited for the next work day. She was unhappy.

We talked about everything that was going on at home, with her family, and how she was doing in other aspects of her life. What we discovered is that in several key areas, she is out of balance. So, for about a week or two, we went back and forth, digging into the things that she really loves. Try to find out who she really was. She shared some stories of her childhood and what her dreams were when she was little. And then it hit her, like a flash of lightening. She saw a future that she was excited about. She finally got a glimpse of what she wants.

So, then we went to work on her resume again. We found all of the experiences that were relevant to the career she wants and eliminated all the of other stuff. Don’t get me wrong, she has a lot of good experience in many areas, but we did not highlight many skills in her profile because they were not important or relevant in her grand plan. After struggling to craft the words, and working through the challenges of self-reflection, she was able to produce a resume that was clear, concise, and spoke directly to the reader.

Within 2-weeks of sending out her new resume, she received an offer and is now making 30% more money, working in a job that will lead to the destination she desires, and is finding balance in other parts of her life now too.

If you are unhappy in your job, it may be because you have imbalance in the other parts of your life, like your personal, financial, or spiritual circles. And you may be out of balance because you are unclear about who you are, and ultimately what you want.

Follow along as we embark on this journey together. I am here to tell you that you can find fulfillment in your life, not just in your job. You can have it all. And, you deserve it.

In the coming weeks, I will share my own personal journey from rags to riches, how I climbed out of my own trench, and interview experts in the field who will deliver the kind of content you can use immediately to start designing your future.

Thanks for listening and please, follow us on Twitter @theCurtain, on LinkedIn, or click the link in the description to leave a comment or question.

Until next time, remember, it’s not just about finding a job, it’s about living a life.
